New RNC spokesperson and former Trump apologist for CNN, Kayleigh McEnany told Varney & Co., that Ralph Northam was the candidate that became Trump during the VA election instead of (R) Ed Gillespie.

It's true that Hillary won Virginia in the 2016 election, but Republicans and Fox News are still coming up with all kinds of crazy reasons why the GOP got hammered last night in Virginia, but the talking point that Northam channeled Trump is seriously deluded.

Kayleigh joined Fox Business Network's Stuart Varney so they could discuss the election.

Varney said, "The media's calling this a referendum on [Trump] - do you have any silver linings to offer your Republican colleagues?"

Kayleigh said, "I do."

She continued, "For Democrats to say this is a referendum on President Trump, that's false. The candidates in this race, Republican candidates distanced themselves from Trump and , Ralph Northam, who won in Virginia actually moved closer to the president when he realized the president's policies, when he flip-flopped on sanctuary cities, he flip-flopped on the Latino victory ad that was so awful."

No Republican is mentioning the absolute trashing VA Republicans took in the House of Delegates and lost their majority that they held since 2000.

Then she uttered the big whopper of the night.

With a straight face, McEnany said, "The Democratic playbook appears to move closer to the president."

Yes, Northam angered progressives when he came out against sanctuary cities, which aren't even in Virginia and that was terrible, but in statewide campaigns, decisions are made that have nothing to do with a president.

And the Latino Victory Fund's negative ad against Gillespie was particularly rough, but that has nothing to do with Trump either.

Kayleigh never mentioned how racist and horrible Gillespie's ads were heading toward the home stretch where he embraced Trump's buffoonery and hatred.

White Nationalist site Breitbart and their fearless leader Steve Bannon touted Ed's move to their bigotry, and predicted a victory.

The one thing which did not happen? Northam moving toward Trump. That's a lame attempt to gaslight everyone.
