This story got a lot of attention due to a media -expose of congressmen and senators inviting stock traders in to pre-emptively tell them how they will vote, so the traders would know to invest or pull their money.

In other words, it could've been Ben Nelson telling a stock trader their stock in the Health Insurance market will still be good, because they will never allow a Public Option to pass.

It's absolutely sickening and it's just one more twist to the knife as far as legalized corruption goes, and how little these politicians are on our side.

This should've been gotten away with years ago, and it's insulting it was allowed in the first place, but I'm glad to see someone doing something.

The bill received a big boost on Tuesday when President Barack Obama called for its enactment during the State of the Union address.

"Send me a bill that bans insider trading by members of Congress; I will sign it tomorrow," Obama said.

Immediately after the speech, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters he would back the bill.

As noxious as that site is 99% of the time, it does have a few insightful pieces now and again. They're sort of the NY Post of liberal elites. I'm still pissed they honored Cuomo at an event with JP MOrgan Chase as a sponsor and did nothing as Occupy protestors where arrested outside. Doubtful it would have been mentioned much if it hadn't been for Naomi Wolf getting arrested as well.

Remember back when Amy Goodman was arrested at the RNC convention and there was a big ruckus over that? Now, our own supposed liberal cohorts don't do a thing when a journalist is arrested. It's a slippery slope and it's only getting steeper.

would happen, too. Moony Nooty.

ACTA goes farther than SOPA/PIPA. It creates an international court outside any nations' jurisdiction to pass and enforce copyright violation laws. It has been negotiated over the past six years largely in secrecy. Last year President Obama signed the accord without Congressional approval. Senator Wyden has challenged his authority to do so.

This week Polish internet users rose ur when the Polish Prime Minister also signed the agreement without consulting the Polish people. News of their riots and web-hacking is what alerted me to ACTA.

WRITE YOUR CONGRESS PEOPLE !! THIS IS WORSE THAN SOPA/PIPA !!

There's swelling anger in Poland over the country signing up with others to a global anti-piracy pact. Critics say the deal is as bad, if not worse, than America's planned laws, which were shelved when web giants like Wikipedia and Google went on a protest blackout. RT's Alexey Yaroshevsky is in Warsaw where the fear is that big corporations now have the power to take individual internet users offline at a whim.

ACTA of War: Cyber attacks & street protests over 'censorship' bill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBwE111ZzfU

Key websites are being hijacked, on a day that thousands of internet freedom supporters marched outside in a major two-pronged protest. It's because the country's just signed up to a global web piracy pact, covering everything from movies and music to fashion and pharmaceuticals. But its net stretches wide. One of the key problems seen with ACTA is that it's completely bypassed people and their governments as Polish liberty activist Katarzyna Szymielewicz has been explaining to RT.

ACTA Anger: Poland signs up to 'censorship' without debate
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BIoOquElWg

Thousands of people took to the streets in front of the European Parliament office in Warsaw to protest ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. It's an international agreement that lumps piracy and counterfeiting into one, which has been discussed behind closed doors for nearly 6 years. Last year, President Obama signed an executive agreement to get the US on board, without asking for Congressional approval. But in a secret ceremony in Japan yesterday, several European nations also signed on, hence the protests in Warsaw. The Atlantic Wire's Adam Clark Estes discusses.

Thousands Protest ACTA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Za2BR9VEgM

Oct 12, 2011 Washington, D.C. – As the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) prepares to ratify an international agreement related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) – chairman of the Senate Finance Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade – sent a letter to President Obama today asking why the administration believes the Anti-Counterfeit Trade Agreement (ACTA) does not require Congress’s formal approval. According to legal experts, cited by Wyden, if the USTR ratifies ACTA without Congress’ consent it may be circumventing Congress’s Constitutional authority to regulate international commerce and protect intellectual property and would therefore represent a significant expansion of the executive branch’s authority over international agreements. ..

Last year, Wyden raised concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding the ACTA negotiations which took place largely in secret over the course of five years and encouraged the USTR “to give the public a say over issues that so profoundly affect their lives.” Last month, he applauded the USTR for not including controversial proposals to expand the enforcement of copyrights in the digital environment in ways that threaten the development of the Internet as a viable platform for commerce, and again stressed the need to be more inclusive: “The public has a right to know what its government is seeking in these trade agreements, especially as it relates to the Internet, and it’s time for the Obama Administration to tell them.”

Wyden to President: Isn’t Congress Supposed to Approve International Trade Agreements?
http://wyden.senate.gov/newsroom/press/releas...

As Wyden notes in his letter http://wyden.senate.gov/download/?id=f20e3fd3... (pdf) international law considers the consent of the head of state as binding, although domestic law prohibits the president from entering into binding international agreements without the consent of Congress.

Jan 9, 2012 - The conflict between Senator Wyden and the administration over the constitutionality of ACTA continued anew last week.

As previously reported, Senator Wyden wrote a letter to President Obama in October, 2011, challenging USTR’s claimed authority to bind the United States to ACTA without Congressional consent. The complaint, echoing several academic commentators (Flynn, Lessig & Goldsmith, Hathaway & Kapczynski) and a submission to USTR signed by 30 law professors, is that Congress must approve any binding international agreement on intellectual property minimum legislative standards because the regulation of intellectual property and of international trade are Article I section 8 powers of Congress. The President can only constitutionally use a sole executive agreement to bind the country on matters that within the sole executive province of the President, which making IP law is not. So Wyden demanded the Administration submit the agreement to Congress or explain why it does not have to.

The Obama WH has used essentially the same kind of semantics to dodge the need for congressional approval that they used to go to war in Libya without such approval.

So far it seems Wyden is the only one in Congress trying to take the WH to task for this.

And (as noted in my longer post) Wyden points out that International Law considers the agreement binding on a nation when its head signs it, regardless the fact our domestic law says he needs congressional approval.

So, in summary, the corporations involved (motion picture & recording industry, seed producers and pharmaceutical industry) have pulled a fast one, creating a court outside US jurisdiction with international reach. And Obama's signing it (last October) commits the US to participate.

Talk about globalization of corporate interests ..

I never got into Star wars enough to even begin to understand that's what was going on.

In a similar light, has it ever occured to you that World War Two was a "staged scam" (to use the language of the video you posted) to escalate the Anglo-American Fascists to global power?

It didn't matter to them which side won the war, they were selling to both sides, they were banking out-of-country, both sides built up enormous armaments industries controlled by the Fascists, etc, etc.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Geronimo.'s picture

No I have never considered that. But I do know that Prescott Bush and friends were involved. I am also familiar with Operation Paperclip and the CIA predecessor the OSS. I'd have to know more context before I could wrap my head around anything so seemingly bizarre. It's no wonder most people don't know what the heck is going on.

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

MountainMan23's picture

Well, in all honesty, without a smoking gun (diplomatic cables saying as much, for instance) I can't prove they had it all in mind from the outset, but it certainly worked out that way.

The American Fascists (same crowd who tried to involve Smedley Butler in coup-d'etat against FDR) backed Hitler with propaganda and finance. They were clearly involved in the false flag operation in 1939 on the border with Poland which allowed Hitler to occupy the Silesian coal fields, in which Prescott Bush &c owned shares, and which would eventually become the Auschwitz Labor and Death Camps. At the end of the war Prescott collected $1.5 million (1951 dollars) for his share in the coal fields, which provided Hitler with the majority of the coal and metals used during the war, and which provided Prescott with the money to start his political career and the Bush family empire.

Prescott's dad Samuel Prescott Bush and father-in-law George Herbert Walker schooled Thiessen ("I Financed Hitler") in banking out-of-country in Holland, so he could get his money out when/if Germany lost. Conveniently the same banking operation could be used to send money the other direction and get it out of the US had Germany won (they actually used that bank to transfer money to Hitler from the US).

Had Germany won the war Prescott Bush and his co-investors would have benefitted at least as much as they did from Germany's loss, which is what raises my suspicions. Proof? No, but certainly a reason to consider the hypothesis.

Then consider Operation PaperClip - Prescott's protege Nixon diligently at work getting high ranking Germans out of Germany and into the US despite their war crimes.

And the rise of the Military Industrial Complex. Had the Germans won the war essentially the same people who run the American MIC now (the American Fascists) would have run the German MIC.

So, whether it was planned that way from the outset or not, I have frequently contended that the Fascists actually won World War Two - the American Fascists, who run the MIC.

And if you look at the composition of Eisenhower's cabinet - the Dulles brothers (Sec Def and CIA chief) were old time Bush lawyers and set up the coup in Iran, our involvement in Vietnam, the coup in Guatemala - all the major wars to be continued by the American MIC in the post-WW2 era.

It's sad what drivel passes as history and news nowadays, it isn't adequate to be considered a knowledgeable journalist. Most don't care I suppose. They have the degrees to figure it out if they wanted. Or maybe they just put money and career over true investigative journalism or common sense. Whatever the case I wish they would just be honest about it. Surely they see the path our society is heading down. I don't get it.

Claiming to be an outsider is so fucking cliché it's pathetic. #CNNdebate Latinos candidate for cabinet member, nobody's naming Elian Gonzales? I'm disappointed. For a Canadian, this health care debate is so fucking absurd I'm speechless #CNNdebate Ron Paul says the unemployed should pay for private health care insurance. With what money?? #CNNdebate The real farce is that Romney, Santorum and Paul aren't laughing in Newt's face. #CNNdebate Ron Paul says cutting taxes for the rich would help the 99%. How? He didn't say. #CNNdebate Newt says he wants the Hong Kong tax system in America? Who's the secret commie now? Ron Paul has a simple solution: If you don't care when people die, then it's a problem anymore, is it? #CNNdebate From his prison cell, Republican ex-representative Duke Cunningham endorses Newt http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/201... via @SlogFirehose

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

A judge in New Haven, Connecticut, sentenced 31-year-old Joshua Komisarjevsky to death Friday for his role in a home invasion that killed a woman and her two daughters in 2007.

Komisarjevsky 's accomplice, Steven Hayes -- the first defendant to stand trial in the case -- was sentenced to death after a jury convicted him on 16 of 17 charges last year.

Prosecutors argued that Hayes and Komisarjevsky went into the home of the Petit family, beat and tied up William Petit, raped and strangled his wife, molested one of their daughters and set the house on fire before attempting to flee.

The two daughters, who were tied to their beds, died of smoke inhalation, while William Petit managed to escape from the basement, where he had been held.

I'm not a death penalty advocate, but I'll shed no tears when this fucker fries.

DWI was held in solitary confinement for 2 years? He's all messed up now and a jury just awarded him 22 million - of course the state is appealling it.
