Rachel Maddow from last week, in a clip that explains exactly why I don't get the whole sex/texting trend among the young people today.
On a related topic, The Village Voice has a lovely collection of MP3's of Bill O'Reilly reading icky sex passages from his 1989 crime novel. As the former mayor of Detroit would "say," LOL!
Open thread below....

so nobody wants to be first, ok well did yah hear about this guy who was paralised from the waist down and he was bitten by a brown recluse spider and his leggs are starting to work, now id just bet thiers a fortune to be made hunting brow recluses!

scared to death that I will get bitten by one of those. They found a bunch in an old elementary school close to here about a year ago.
I knew a gal who was bitten on the tip of her middle finger and had it amputated down to the first joint. Lots of others have had far worse.
Key is to know where they are likely to breed and avoid those areas.

seen some pretty gross pictures. They had something on Animal Planet or Nat. Geo. a while back on a show about different people getting bit by different things and one of the people got bit by a Brown Recluse. They had to remove most of his thigh from it.
in midwest and south. But where you get them and they breed, they can multiply pretty quickly. Almost always nocturnal.

the midwest. I always check my sheets and shoes. I hate any spider, let alone one that can cause damage like that.
they're easy to tell by their webs (once you've seen a bunch). Thank God they're uncommon in FL.
I think recluses do a little more roaming away from their webs, so if you're in an area where they're native, shaking out shoes and sheets, etc is smart.

We have black widows all the hell over the place here on the treasure coast of florida. We've had them in our house. We rented a house on the west coast of florida for a vacation and the patio was thick with them.

We got the brown recluse, giant centipedes, scorpions, coral snakes, rattle snakes, some other kind of poisonous snake I can't remember the name of right now...and oh yeah...we have a few mosquitoes too.
for some reported BR bites, Brown Reclusive or the Hobo Spider.

I heard about that, too. But, on the down side, Bob Geldoff supposedly lost the sight in one eye from a spider bite.

"But I would suggest the first thing that would make me feel a little bit better toward them if they'd follow the Japanese example and come before the American people and take that deep bow and say 'I'm sorry,' and then either do one of two things: resign or go commit suicide.
"And in the case of the Japanese, they usually commit suicide before they make any apology."

Man, the Village Voice sure didn't make it easy to get those sound clips if you don't have Quicktime enabled to handle MP3s in your browser. I had to dump the page source and scan for them manually, which is a lot more work than those clips undoubtedly deserve.
I don't have QuickTime and they play fine for me. I think it's my Windows Media Player embedded in my browser.
Here's another say to get the URL of each MP3. First right-click on the blue-and-white "play" button and choose "properties".
From the "File" tab in "Properties" (should be the default tab) copy the "Location" (http://media.pitch.com/3139745.0.mp3 for "Say baby, put down that pipe and get my pipe up") and past into your browser address bar, or directly into your media player.
Despite the lengthy description it only takes a few seconds to do all that!
And you're right .. it's not worth the trouble, but I enjoyed the technical challenge !!!

Allows easy identification and download of media clips on web pages.
At the minimum it can signal with a red dotted box the available media clips on a web page. One click can download all or some.
It can also do conversion of flv to avi too after downloading flash video clips.
I need something to convert .flv files (I think that's the format saved Youtube vids usually are in that I can't currently play.)

Going through the Firefox addon menu is the easiest way to install it.

Yeah, running Firefox (mostly), but occasionally have to open IE to run embedded stuff, Youtube, some online radio programs--hit and miss. Typical FF Flash issues; not the end of the world...
But I do like to download the occasional Youtube vid through the FF plugin.
And agree about NoScript-- nice for minimizing banner crap, loading times.

Firefox (out of the box) is the superior browser by far. It just works, and 1000s of addons to do specialized tasks and make it better.
Worth using FF just for the noscript addon, which allows the user to vet and allow perm or temp the scripts and permissions of websites.
Yep. Firefox for me too. Has all those great add-ons (Ad Block instantly springs to mind), generally loads faster, and just seems to work better.

The BBC man on the scene in Kandahar watched as hundreds of trucks drove into the airport, fleeing the American troops pursuing them on ground and in the air. Then he announced the Americans had the airport surrounded, and that shelling would begin immediately.

On O'Reilly's show tonight him and Bernie Goldberg were talking about some comedian that called Obama some Yiddish word that was supposed to be a derogatory term for a black person or something. I forget what the word was, but apparently it's not a nice term. Anyway, Goldberg said that it was harmless and that it only meant "black person", then Bill'O said that in the dictionary it is described as a bad term. Then, Bernie said that dictionaries were written by liberals and that's why the word was in the dictionary as being bad. It was pretty funny. Maybe they'll have it up here tomorrow. I never knew that the dictionary market was in the tank for the left as well. How does Bernie come up with this crap?

I suspect the TSA and other frivolous agencies will have a glorious future with the depression upon us, 100,000s of newly unemployed middle class voters will need a new jobs of some sort.
We could allow private companies to set up alternative airport screenings next to the TSA and allow them to compete with TSA at the gates, some free market competition would work wonders for price and speed. Line A or line B, both offering the service and a boarding pass.

I guess the AIG staff does not understand this. They did not have a company left to give them a bonus. They were really out of a job. At that point the kindly tax payer helped by keeping their company in business. So now they still have a job but just barely. Hence, a poor performance worker who just barely has a job due to his employer just barely hanging on to his business does not get a bonus. Is that simple enough language for you?
Are slightly miffed that the 'milk it into the ground' executives seem to think they deserve bonuses for their past bad behavior.
They should consider themselves lucky they have extremely well paid jobs courtesy of the US taxpayers.

I loved the way White House press secretary Robert Gibbs dismissed former Vice President Dick Cheney's outrageous claims – for the second time – that President Obama is somehow making the nation less safe. "I guess Rush Limbaugh was busy," Gibbs said in response to Cheney's insults.
"So they trotted out the next most popular member of the Republican cabal." I expected more outrage about Cheney's divisive and baseless charges. Since when do former vice presidents pounce on a new administration so quickly? Since never. Cheney's continuing his political hatchet man role, so why shouldn't Gibbs hit back? Instead, though, a lot of the outrage, or at least tut-tutting, has been at Gibbs.
