On a related topic, The Village Voice has a lovely collection of MP3's of Bill O'Reilly reading icky sex passages from his 1989 crime novel. As the former mayor of Detroit would "say," LOL!

scared to death that I will get bitten by one of those. They found a bunch in an old elementary school close to here about a year ago.

fastfeat's picture

I knew a gal who was bitten on the tip of her middle finger and had it amputated down to the first joint. Lots of others have had far worse.

Key is to know where they are likely to breed and avoid those areas.

seen some pretty gross pictures. They had something on Animal Planet or Nat. Geo. a while back on a show about different people getting bit by different things and one of the people got bit by a Brown Recluse. They had to remove most of his thigh from it.

in midwest and south. But where you get them and they breed, they can multiply pretty quickly. Almost always nocturnal.

the midwest. I always check my sheets and shoes. I hate any spider, let alone one that can cause damage like that.

fastfeat's picture

they're easy to tell by their webs (once you've seen a bunch). Thank God they're uncommon in FL.

I think recluses do a little more roaming away from their webs, so if you're in an area where they're native, shaking out shoes and sheets, etc is smart.

We got the brown recluse, giant centipedes, scorpions, coral snakes, rattle snakes, some other kind of poisonous snake I can't remember the name of right now...and oh yeah...we have a few mosquitoes too.

Man, the Village Voice sure didn't make it easy to get those sound clips if you don't have Quicktime enabled to handle MP3s in your browser. I had to dump the page source and scan for them manually, which is a lot more work than those clips undoubtedly deserve.

MountainMan23's picture

I don't have QuickTime and they play fine for me. I think it's my Windows Media Player embedded in my browser.

Here's another say to get the URL of each MP3. First right-click on the blue-and-white "play" button and choose "properties".

From the "File" tab in "Properties" (should be the default tab) copy the "Location" (http://media.pitch.com/3139745.0.mp3 for "Say baby, put down that pipe and get my pipe up") and past into your browser address bar, or directly into your media player.

Despite the lengthy description it only takes a few seconds to do all that!

And you're right .. it's not worth the trouble, but I enjoyed the technical challenge !!!

At the minimum it can signal with a red dotted box the available media clips on a web page. One click can download all or some.

It can also do conversion of flv to avi too after downloading flash video clips.

And agree about NoScript-- nice for minimizing banner crap, loading times.

On O'Reilly's show tonight him and Bernie Goldberg were talking about some comedian that called Obama some Yiddish word that was supposed to be a derogatory term for a black person or something. I forget what the word was, but apparently it's not a nice term. Anyway, Goldberg said that it was harmless and that it only meant "black person", then Bill'O said that in the dictionary it is described as a bad term. Then, Bernie said that dictionaries were written by liberals and that's why the word was in the dictionary as being bad. It was pretty funny. Maybe they'll have it up here tomorrow. I never knew that the dictionary market was in the tank for the left as well. How does Bernie come up with this crap?

Wikipedia: William G. Boykin ..

he served at the Central Intelligence Agency as Deputy Director of Special Activities, and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. He was later made Deputy Director for Operations, Readiness, and Mobilization when assigned to the Army Staff. [10]

From April 1998 to February 2000, he served as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Special Forces Command (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. From March 2000-2003, he was the Commanding General, United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center, Fort Bragg, N.C. In June 2003, he was appointed Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence under Dr. Stephen Cambone, Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence.

LTG Boykin retired on August 1, 2007

..

A December 9, 2003 item in The Guardian (UK) connected Boykin with secret Israeli counterinsurgency assistance in Iraq, allegedly including assassination squads. [34] In another Guardian article, Sidney Blumenthal, President Bill Clinton's former senior adviser and current Washington bureau chief for Salon (US), claimed that towards the end of 2003, it was Boykin who, under Donald Rumsfeld's orders, advised then Camp X-Ray head Major General Geoffrey Miller in Guantanamo to transfer the same Camp X-Ray methods to Abu Ghraib and the Iraqi prison system. [35]

In 2003, Seymour Hersh claimed in the New Yorker (US) that Boykin was a key planner, along with Stephen Cambone, behind Rumsfeld's Special Forces approach to fighting the War on Terror. [36] Furthermore, when Boykin was questioned in a congressional inquiry regarding similarities between current War on Terror special operations and USA's Phoenix Program during the Vietnam War, he said: "I think we’re running that kind of programme. We’re going after these people. Killing or capturing these people is a legitimate mission for the department. I think we’re doing what the Phoenix programme was designed to do, without all of the secrecy."

The US tortures, and has tortured, and admits it.

I suspect the TSA and other frivolous agencies will have a glorious future with the depression upon us, 100,000s of newly unemployed middle class voters will need a new jobs of some sort.

We could allow private companies to set up alternative airport screenings next to the TSA and allow them to compete with TSA at the gates, some free market competition would work wonders for price and speed. Line A or line B, both offering the service and a boarding pass.
