It's been on my list to send a shout-out to our Canadian readers (love you guys) but here the delightful Paula Poundstone does it for me, and way funnier than I could, too.

and Paula Poundstone has always been a fave of mine!
Yea me too.
Perhaps you should be more selective about who you heap accolades on, isn't Poundstone a convicted child molester? Not what I'd call "delightful."
ya think?
Some stuff you can't make up!
She had a drinking problem. She also raised eight foster kids, and adopted three. Her conviction included a ban on future adoptions, and her adopted three were put back in foster care for a year.
Source? How about Paula herself on her arrest, alcohol issues, and kids?

She's delightful.
I tidied up this thread a bit...and she says in the video not to google her, lol! - Sitemonitor.
This is not the best choice.

I wouldn't want a paroled bank robber working a cash register, but they should be allowed to make an honest living like the rest of us without haunting reminders of something stupid they did. Trust me, it is much better that they are employed.
I wonder what it's like to have never made a mistake.
I'm busy working right now or I'd tell you.
why don't you ask the survivors of the abuse if they think there should be second chances?
...have no say regarding that person's employment future. What do you think happens when ex-convicts are given no opportunities to change their lives? Nevermind, I'll bet you don't live in a big city.
Hi right back atchya BG!
California's suckonomy won't recover until Arnie leaves office. Geithner and Bernanke call for exec pay standards. Vermont's Senate legalizes gay marriage. Schumer flip-flops in favor of gay marriage. Prop. 8 donors try to sue to avoid being outed. Reid is hoping to cock-block a GOP filibuster on health care reform. Barry's finance regulation reform plans.
Mentally ill patients get dumped in nursing homes. More air pollution from Asia and Latin America. The post office is broke. China wants a new world currency. Energy consumption is killing off birds. Looks like Chinese immigrants weren't the only minority group exploited for dangerous rail labor. Billions wasted in Iraq.
The "liberal" media tries to "correct" Obama's assertions on the economy. Hillary admits our drug war policies are failing, but seems more interested in fighting firepower with firepower, rather than ending it. Taiwan's easier to capture, thanks to Bush's negligence. Is Pakistan backing
the Taliban? A cop kills a teen with a taser. An ex-Bushie admits most Gitmo detainees are innocent.
The Urban League wants Obama to address economic disparities between whites and minorities.
but why?

going off on the president....when he said the most absurd thing i have ever heard
praeger insisted that the dept of education has destroyed education in this country...and as proof, he told listeners to read letters from the civil war
now, maybe im nuts, but wasnt the illiteracy rate extremely high at that time...especially with soldiers, who were mostly poor and uneducated (rich guys bought their way out of conscription)
i have my probs with the concept of the dept of education, as i believe in more local control
but why make absurd statements to prove a point
wtf is wrong with these wingnuts?
Beck was on with Bolton as a guest. They were talking about the U.N. and the left wanting a New World Order. They tried to frame it differently but I remember the first one to bring it up was George H.W. Bush. That's how bad the propaganda is.
You scared me Ron, not that character assasination isn't awful, but part of me thought the worst! I'm glad the other part of me was correct...
Damnit, this meant for Ron's Eliot Spitzer comment! :S

Ron,
The term "Assassinated" on it's own, implies murder.
"Political assassination" implies something different.
NO?
The video is good and I read that article back then it appeared.
We knew then. Well, those that read it. But our Congress took responsibility and accountability off the table.
People,
PLEASE NOTE: Because FOXPRAVDA and Bill-doh O'Liely skew and frame reality that way is not a reason to follow their example.

illiteracy rate was but Americans didn't have the distractions and broader education that we do. If you wanted to read something, it was usually a well-written periodical or actual literature--the classics, Shakespeare, the King James Bible. People were much better read, for the most part, and so could write better. But to draw a direct line from the mid-19th century to the Dept. of Education 150 years later is asinine.

... that is one of my fave movie lines evah! Leslie Nielsen rocks!
Nielsen is a comedic genius IMHO.
The beaver was chosen as our natonal animal because, at that time, beaver fur was one of our chief exports to Europe, where beaver fur and tophats (made from beaver fur) were in high fashion. Also, at that time, Ottawa (big into logging Canadian virgin forests, and accessible to the St. Lawrence river, for beaver and logging exports) was chosen as our capital, as it was away from the American border, and we had suffered raids from our American neighbours. Queen Victoria chose it for its secure location, away from the Americans.

I've been reading about these tent cities springing up across the country. Seems like they are the result of all these people that have lost their homes and/or jobs... they even have a name... Bushvilles. Just like the Hoovervilles of old. Not that I am nostalgic or anything.

Apparently, the feds are raiding a marijuana clinic in San Francisco this evening.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the language of Obama's pledge to stop raiding marijuana clinics had changed. They stated that they would not raid clinics so long as they were complying with state AND federal law.
Well, the feds still have marijuana as a class I narcotic.
That little bit of change was fun while it lasted.

Anybody catch this DINO crap on Rachael Maddow's show last night?
Jeanne Shaheen "Democrat" of New Hampshire, says "we have to compromise with the Republicans."
No you stupid wench, WE DON'T.
That's why the American people gave Democrats a 72 vote majority in the House, and an 8, soon-to-be 9 vote lead in the frickin' Senate --- SO YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO COMPROMISE!!!!!!
So maybe, YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY GET SOMETHING DONE!
ARGH!
Back in the 90's, Newt's Repukes with not even HALF that much of a lead, generously compromised on exactly squat! George Bush claimed a "mandate" after stealing two elections.
We give you a legitimate LANDSLIDE and this is what you do with it? Kowtow to the jerks who got us into this FUBAR mess????
She goes on Rachael's show, and blithers about how we have to work with the Republicans. No lady, actually YOU DON'T HAVE TO.
ROLL OVER THEM!!!!
Unfrackingbelievable!
And you could literally see Rachael just throwing out the rope for this twit to hang herself with. Priceless. Shaheen kept blithering on until she actually said that the reason why they had to compromise on global warming legislation, was because the country was divided on "geographic lines"!!
I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Whaaaaa?"
Bitch, as the name suggests, the warming will effect THE GLOBE. Your dividing line, is a fracking CIRCLE!
Dammit, people like her chap my ass more than Republicans, because they don't even have the stones to be what they are --- REPUBLICANS!!
So some poor chump votes for them assuming they're going to act like a Democrat, and then they get in office and pull this SHITE!
Either be a Democrat, or go run and LOSE as a Republican, but you can't have it both ways!

Champion of Single Payer System, Godspeed: Howard Dean To Announce Major New Campaign On Health Care Reform
- http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/president-o...
Looks like Howard Dean is well on his way to finding a post-DNC niche, and he won’t be needing the Obama administration to find it for him....On a conference call with supporters later today, Dean will make a surprise announcement, unveiling a major new health care campaign that will gear up his political operation to pressure the White House and Congress to preserve a public insurance option as part of health care reform, I’m told.
Look Ma, another 'Free Market' Miracle!!! IBM to shift 'large number' of US jobs to India - http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-new...
Computer giant IBM plans to cut a "large number" of US employees in its business services unit and transfer their duties to India, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. The newspaper, citing "people familiar with the situation," said that IBM generally avoids public disclosure of layoffs and the number of US jobs being eliminated could not be determined.
Note: Wow! What does India have that we don't have now? It certainly isn't cheap labor..... All I can say is...The corporatocracy is winning....outsourcing is a form of treason, simple as that. Corporations aren't people....end corporate personhood.

Actually, I really do enjoy reading the the thoughts of ex-pats, foreign based posters, and transplants from other countries (now residing in US) on the forums.
We really do need the input of the world, and we need to look outside of this nation for ideas and not wait until we've exhausted our own.
I can wholeheartedly say that the 'USA #1' mentality that sprung from the Reagan era has really hurt this nation in more ways than anyone of us can count...
Actually, the things we're #1 in aren't worth shouting about anymore...unless you're part of Bush's 'base'...

surpriseingly no ones worried about red chinas buildup of its navy and the pentagons disreguard of the potential for its being able to control the pacific ocean, and the destruction of our twenty five ship navy, of course china at this time has no aircraft carriers but so what ? it has purchased subs from russia that are virtually undectectable by us navy sonar and some of thoes subs have the best and fastest torpedoes ever made, in such a case our carriers are worthless and most likely would be sunk in the first stages of any war with china, if and when the chinese decide to foreclose on americas long domminence of the pacific you may wonder why we pissed our military away on iraq and afganistan,oh i forgot to mention what stimulates your broad thinking intelect ! barack obama!
Hehehehe Paula's funny!
as hammering hank once said never over estimate the intelligence of the average american , they get thier mind on one thing and cant get past thier tunnel vision , now shovel ready jobs thats where the interest is! history has a way with biteing you in the ass ,as rosana rosana danna used to say its allways something , well its interesting that china has the largest maritime fleet in the world, and a military second to none , its armed trained and capable of defeating the armed forces of america and thier airforce has twice the number or more then america does, at this moment our troops , armour , and navy and airforce are ingaged in subjugation of the mid east for fun and profit, while china sees we are more vulnerbale then we were before the japs attacked pearl harbour, to many believe china is now like us a capitalist nation , but the truth is they have been turning in that cash you paid for your chinese made crap into warships planes and buying our militarys secret weapons plans , been building a sea bourn capability useing troop landing ships simmular to our once used lsts , while we have no such ships left to land troops with, and we have no maritime fleet any more , sooner or later chinas going to expand , take all the islands we fought the japs over, by the time you know what hit you it will be to late , our factorys for building new aircrafts gone , we have no supplys of clothing or basic equipment such as canteens packs web belts ect ect , thier all made in china , man i wouldnt want to be in your shoes when china finally comes after your ass! good luck you will need it!
