Arlen Specter, the newly minted Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania, let his hair down in a freewheeling press conference at the U.S. Senate today, making this comment about his former Republican colleagues: "Now I can say it: what a bunch of fucking assholes!"

Mr. Specter had a bounce in his step and lilt in his voice as he tore into members of his former party in a press appearance that appeared to set records with its body count.

"This is something I've wanted to say for years: is there a bigger dick on this planet than Mitch McConnell?" he said. "I know he thinks he's doing his job, but please, what a fucking turd."

Observers who are accustomed to the much-ballyhooed collegiality of the Senate were taken aback by the jaw-dropping profanity of Sen. Specter's parting shots, many of which were breathtaking in their anatomical crudeness.

"He must've had a lot of rage bottled up over the years," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). "Suddenly he was talking like a Somali pirate."

While Mr. Specter's tirade had many high points - or low points, depending on one's party affiliation - he reserved some of his harshest words for House Minority whip Eric Cantor: "Eric fucking Cantor? Please. That douche can kiss my goddamn stimulus package."

(OK. I stole it from 23/6, over at HuffPo, but thought you might enjoy the read.)

What a stupid movie. He has to charge a battery pack so his new artificial heart will keep pumping while he looks for the bad guys who have his heart. Along the way he finds all these "EXTREME !!" ways to get powered up: touching high voltage lines (which would kill you), getting shocked with defibrilators, Stun guns, etc. Then he gets a charge by rubbing against an old woman for static electricity. Yes, static electricity. OK if that works, then why connect a car battery to your nads? Just get some footed pajamas and hunt the bad guys at your leisure! If the stun gun works, buy one and use it as needed and stop looking for EXTREME powerups. It insults the viewers intelligence so much that I almost get angry every time I see the commercial. "OMG I gotta juice up, let's see, I could stick my tongue in this light socket, or I could rub a balloon against my hair....lets try the light socket!!"

liberalNmoderation's picture

if ya look at it logically...GEEEEZ!
Like I said...a BIT over the top.

rickj's picture

a BIT over the top I can handle. Granted you have to give up some degree of logic and just enjoy the ride, but STATIC ELECTRICITY? When you go there the movie is over, give the guy some cordoroy (sp?) slacks or wire him to one of those flashlights that you shake to charge. There is no effing point to licking a high voltage tower if STATIC ELECTRICY will keep him alive. I think I have to watch it now, I am having too much fun making fun of it. 8-)

liberalNmoderation's picture

Sometimes ya just gotta go with it, and just enjoy the ride.
It helps if you have a few (insert poison of choice here) before watching such movies.
And yeah...I'm gonna wait for the DVD, I wouldn't spend money at a theater on a movie like this, lol!

Hillary lied about Iraq. Scum-Mart nearly refused to pay a kid who got rocks in his DS box. Another Bush "success" story. A U.S. marshal leaks info to the mob. Think they'll hold it against him the way they held the revealed torture documents against Obama? Iran lies about the condition of our journalist hostage. Credit card company abuses the feds want to curtail. SCOTUS hates freedom of speech. Sixteen brave Dems ask Obama for an independent investigation of torture. Barry's pick for teacher of the year. He also wants to get banks out of the college loan business. Businesses see savings in global warming regulations. Employers use a potentially improved market to lay off more people. Safety lapses led to the Bayer plant expplosion.
The Army's finally going after recruit suicides. Anyone up for salmonella-flavored alfalfa sprouts? The IRS wants to go after other illegal overseas tax shelters. The GOP only wants the CIA to release torture documents to pin the blame on the Dems. Sebelius gets confirmed. Five Americans are hospitalized by swine flu, while the CDC acting director expects deaths to emerge from the virus. The production of the Fallujah game gets halted.

...that my friend Ed Smith and I were the only two people in the theater the night Buckaroo Banzai opened back in '83. What a great film!

Ran across this comment on threedonia looking for whether or not Penn. had an open primary.

He’s also lying out his ass on the way out the door. He’s splitting because he’s going to lose the primary and he can’t run as an independent. From Allahpundit:

“He’d have happily run for re-election as a Republican if not for Toomey getting into the race and quickly jumping out to a 21-point lead. Specter tried to make it an open primary so that the left might rescue him but couldn’t, and Pennsylvania’s election laws prevented him from doing what Lieberman did to Lamont three years ago: In PA, if you compete in a primary and lose, you’re done. No independent candidacy. So his choice, essentially, was either to switch to an independent now and skip the primary or go the whole nine yards by becoming a Democrat, giving the left a presumptive filibuster-proof majority (once Franken is seated), and extracting whatever concessions he could from them in return, e.g. committee chairmanships, DNC fundraising, etc. The Hill actually kinda sorta predicted this last month. It’s pure self-preservation on Specter’s part, expecting that he’ll be able to handle Toomey easily in the general when Democrats and indies can push him through.

Three quick thoughts. One: Does this mean he’s going to reverse himself on Card Check? I’m guessing yes. Two: Does this mean the Democrats will drop their threat to nuke the filibuster on health care? Hard to say since Blue Dogs like Ben Nelson could defect and deprive them of the 60th vote. Third: Will a lefty challenger jump into the Democratic primary now and challenge Specter as, irony of ironies, a DINO?

You know who I bet feels pretty stupid right now? John Cornyn.”

Republican leaders never feel stupid. You’d have to show some signs of intelligent at the forefront to feel stupid.

I think he may yet reverse course on card check given enough face saving opportunity i.e. "changes" in the bill.

From what I understand Penn. is not an open primary state.

Andy K's picture

From The A.V. Club:

...[I]n the most memorable scene, Statham and girlfriend Amy Smart end up having sex in every imaginable position (and then some) in front of thousands of cheering fans on a racetrack, with horses zipping by. Then it’s off to slaughtering dozens of baddies, occasionally with the help of Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite’s Pedro), a gang of gay black bikers, and Bai Ling, a crack whore whose broken English would probably be offensive in any movie but this one. (This one has anal rape with a lubricated shotgun, played for laughs.) And there’s still room for a hilarious flashback to a Jerry Springer-esque show about Statham’s youth, a brilliantly addled Godzilla homage (complete with giant rubber masks), and hundreds of naked boobs. It’d be silly to call Crank: High Voltage over the top: The top is so far below that it isn’t even visible.

Note the comment from a gentleman you could consider The Arbiter of All That Owns, a certain ZODIAC MOTHERFUCKER:

THIS MOVIE IS BANANAS AND MACADAMIAN FUCKING NUTS

I really need to see this flick. Really.

Something to think about:

About 30,000 to 40,000 deaths occur due to the flu each year in the United States. That number could equate to 300,000 to 500,000 deaths worldwide. The majority of flu-related deaths occur in people over the age of 65.

Fast Facts:

About five to twenty percent of the US population gets the flu each year.
About 92 childrendie each year from the flu.
Influenza was listed as the seventh biggest cause of death during the years 1999 and 2000.

New York City-sized ice collapses off Antarctica - http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090428/sc_nm/us_...
Based on European Space Agency satellite images, a German glaciologist reports that 270.3 square miles of the northern ice front of the Wilkins Ice Shelf broke into a mass of icebergs. This event is linked to global warming. Countries with territory in the Arctic are scheduled to meet in Norway to discuss the impact of melting ice in the north.

In the past four years, air temperatures have increased, sea ice has declined sharply, surface waters in the Arctic ocean have warmed and permafrost is in some areas rapidly thawing. In addition, says the report released today at a Norwegian government seminar, plants and trees are growing more vigorously, snow cover is decreasing 1-2% a year and glaciers are shrinking.

KBR Sued In Over Waste Disposal In Iraq, Afghanistan

By Braden Reddall, Reuters

SAN FRANCISCO -- KBR Inc was sued on Tuesday in three states on accusations that the company exposed U.S. soldiers and contractors at U.S. bases in Iraq and Afghanistan to toxic smoke, court documents showed.

KBR, an engineering and construction company that also manages military logistics, was paid by the U.S. government to dispose of waste on the bases, according to the complaints filed on behalf of soldiers who had been deployed in the two countries.

Oilfield services company Halliburton Co, which spun off KBR two years ago, was also named as a defendant in the lawsuits, being brought by law firm Burke O'Neil LLC.

The lawsuits, filed in Georgia, Alabama and Illinois, accused KBR of failing to properly dispose of waste which led to prolonged exposure to hazardous smoke, fumes and ash.

"These exposures are causing a host of serious diseases, increased risk of serious diseases in the future, death and increased risk of death," the complaints in all three states said.

Burke O'Neil said in a statement that similar actions were being filed in California, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, and Wyoming.

The law firm said in the statement that the actions were on behalf of at least 20 current and former military personnel, private contractors, and families of two men who allegedly died due to exposure to the smoke.

KBR said it had not reviewed the complaints and therefore could not comment on the specific allegations.

"The general assertion, however, that KBR knowingly harmed soldiers or contractors is unfounded," the company said in an emailed statement. "The safety and security of all employees and those the company serves remains KBR's top priority."

Of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
I work with this guy who loves to boast that the fall of the wall was because of Reagan. He always says," Hey, it happened on his watch. So he gets credit for it."
Now, I give credit to all of the presidents who were in office from the beginning of all that. I won't give it to any one president. I also give credit to the Beatles. But that's just me.
I've heard that remark so often that it happened on Reagans watch so many times, that I stopped questioning it and just assumed it was correct. Nope.
It came down on GHWB's watch.
2 things.
I feel stupid for believing this and for not questioning it.And for not doing some research to find out the facts. And for not remembering.
