are popping champagne corks tonight.

of the American Public is frightening.

In the past, the courts have found that the public is aided in "an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will prevail". In the case of health reform, the concept of "single payer" was taken off the table, not only by the government, but also by the corporate media. Hence, the American public was persuaded to continue to price gouge themselves.

The government knows that if they control what people see and hear, they'll control what they think and say, and vote. That's why the issue of Net Neutrality is very important, because, as we've seen, the issue of whether we should pursue a single payer option is only being addressed on the net.

In the past, all corporate networks were pushing the government agenda to initiate war with Iraq. That nation building initiative has cost us $1 trillion so far. A majority of the American public supported starting that war. Their gullibility was exploited by a corporate media that shielded the truth.

In the current health reform debate, the public was insulated by the corporate media from any discussion as to why most large businesses are self insured, or why we pay 50% more per capita than other industrial countries.

The House Passes Health-care Bill
A look at how members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/...

You have to start somewhere! I am thrilled this passed for it's better to have something to work with over the nothingness that could be perfection. Stupek will die in committee. This is a huge victory and is a starting point. And it sure as shit beats defeat!

I haven't been following the details nearly as well as I should have been, I suppose. And while it sounds like this isn't great, seeing the 'Thugs go dwn to defeat is at least a small victory.

It's not perfect by any means but it is something to start with.

wet dream, but THIS is truly disturbing. Well done drifty!

WONKA was a company run by a paranoid delusional that fired his entire workforce because he was afraid they were selling trade secrets, who reopened using (likely) illegal alien scabs to replace the outsourced workers. Also worth mentioning, all of the obvious OSHA and food safety violations.

After today's vote, I expect there will be some SERIOUS drinking in your household tonight...

Oh, the horror!

in reference to he who's name must not be spoken?

Voledemort?

No

If the House health bill remains unscathed, the anti-trust laws will finally apply to insurance companies. One Republican supported it. SCOTUS looks at the issue of life for juveniles. A year later, the Hilton LAX is still engaging in union-busting. If it wasn't such a pain in the ass to get down there, I would've boycotted the place today myself. But I'll do it next time, and hope that link helps. Someone brings a grenade to a gifts-for-guns exchange.

.. and thanks for all you do !

Has to go... Nothing like an anti-women amendment.

and 64 dems should go

Stupak is an idiot. His son commited suicide a few years ago, and he has been going repuke since then.

it's required by your insurance policy. 8:00 AM sharp.

do you know that is forbidden by your insurance policy?

insurance goons...

company screw you over, imagine what it will be like having the government breathing down your neck on this stuff.

I like the idea of no Viagra unless you're married and your spouse consents. Goopers should love that family values agenda. ;-)

i thought it read " its time for your sex change " , at this point any sex would be a change . 8:00 am is good , not quite sure about the sharp part .

Party like a rock star!

RIP

Could we now, please, finally, after this vote, declare "Bipartisanship" dead, refuse to listen to the minority party, and concentrate on governing?

or will be soon.

The insurance companies have been making the laws in their favor forever.

With a strong advocacy group, we might have an easier time making the insurance companies more accountable than the old way, anti trust wise...we'll see. Same then as now, we have to be forever vigilant.

Hope it's a great one! :)

showing up more. Perpetual outrage is all very well but barbed satire combined with a wicked sense of humor gets the point across even better.

Happy birthday also to Joni Mitchell!

You rock, ladies!

Thanx!

Kinda seemed right after a day like today...

29?

Happy birthday Nicole.

Catholic?

We had a Catholic Business Agent at our local union hall that became our medical administrator, birthing was free, but everything else was through the roof because of that, oh and no paid for abortions or snip-snip of the vas deferans.

He had 14 kids

you buy in vending machines in men's rooms? Comes with an instruction manual and a prize?

I saw a picture of Nicole so I'm guessing she now looks 24 instead of 23. Rock on Nicole.

Very flattering, but very untrue.

Very pretty. I pictured you with light hair for some reason. Now I know.

lol...

During the days of the Iranian protests and Iranian students were trying to get information out via Twitter and text messages, the word got out to change your location to Tehran to foil the ruling mullahs from being able to squash information, because they couldn't tell what was legitimately from Iran.

As I haven't followed the health care stuff for a few months (was very busy), is what passed good, or not? Are you happy? Scale of 1 to 10, 10 being good.

hoping for a good outcome. Watching it just verifies how badly repugs lie and how easily Dems bent over.

"I object, I object, I object" was the Republican tune

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/11/07/gop-gone-...

The House bill, if it was H.R. 3962, isn't so bad, so I'm told. The question is, what happens when it heads to the Senate. Andy Sullivan was on Colbert Report this week and said that the reconciliation process could be used to ram this bill through the Senate, on 51 votes. Don't know if that's true, but if so, then, pandering to Snowe and Lieberman is unnecessary.

Scale = 5
SinglePayer = 10
Doing nothing = 1

Maybe, 3.

I got an email in my inbox from Kuccinich explainging a lot of things about the bill (and Wall St.). Maybe some of you did too.

BY DON CLARK

A widening insider-trading probe is causing new tremors in Silicon Valley, as prosecutors say a network of employees at technology companies acted as paid informants for managers of a San Francisco hedge fund implicated in the case.

A criminal complaint filed Thursday by the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's office says employees at six unnamed technology companies provided information to Richard Choo-Beng Lee, co-founder of the hedge fund Spherix Capital LLC. Employees at four unnamed companies provided information to Ali Far, Mr. Lee's partner at Spherix, according to a separate complaint. It isn't clear whether some or all of those companies are ...

Nicole, have a wonderfully happy birthday!

Happy birthday indeed! Thanks for keeping us enlightened throughout the year.

And to think the place was full of just political whores. Congress has that many members with PHDs (Pimp and Ho Degree), and medicare for all has yet to be achieved.

................the shit we get from them is worthless!

Now I just need to be up again in 5 hours for the Sunday shows. :)

For what it's worth, is this ...

It's a start. With any luck (as the Senate is a bit more bullish on women's reproductive choice than the House of Reprehensibles) the Stupid - er, sorry, Stupak - Amendment will be stripped out of the bill.

The 64 Democrats who voted for that travesty just signed their resignation letters. They'll be facing primary opponents, I'm sure.

And let it pass by reconciliation. Show the GOP the contempt they deserve (I'm Republican, of the "Ben Tre" variety).

o/t

have you read that book " The Wanderer " ? .

Sadly, no, but I know the historical reference, of course.

Forgive my ignorance, but my remembrance of some of my high school civics is rusty after all these years.

If memory serves, the Senate votes on their version, then the House and Senate versions are put together and any differences hammered out. Then it's voted on again and if it passes it goes on to the President to sign.

To quote Bismarck, "Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made."

Makes sense. Thanks.

Cao La-2 voted for it, lol

Orange you glad I didn't say Boner?

Thanks so little to these DINO's who sold out America's future so they could revel in the ease and convenience of today. I hope that wiser people ultimately prevail and strike your filthy amendment from the final bill.

Just looked at the Washington Post to see how LA reps voted. None -- and that's NONE with a capitol fuck you -- of the Dems voted for the healthcare bill. Only one LA rep voted for it, Cao, a republican. And people wonder why we drink so much in Louisiana.

Personally I think Bonehead looks like a sleazy used car salesman.
You know, the kind that looks down your shirt while you are making the final signatures...
He would try and sell you all the additional do-wah policies and extras, driving up the price way over sticker - and you just know he is taken you for a ride.
Who else bets he's probably rockin' the "Hai Karate" cologne?

LOL @ the OOmpa
