when the interest strikes me, and because I get my little bits of spirituality from different sources.
I had recorded this morning's Mass on that channel, and to get to the reason I'm even bringing this up, unfortunately the priest chose to sermonize on the denying Patrick Kennedy communion issue.
Basically it was what I expected, that Catholics "aren't" imposing their values and morals on others, that Catholics need to "defend" life, etc.
I think I may not record the Daily Mass again.
Dubai is imploding, which is no surprise. They've worked to be paper pushers and that certainly hasn't done any good for any country in the long term.
Look at slide 4:

Whoops. Not supposed to be a reply.
It's all our fault you know. If we would have let Bush sell all of our Ports to Dubai, then Haliburton wouldn't have had to move there after stealing hundreds of billions from us.
Also, the important work of building a trillion dollars worth of man made island resorts could continue; instead of wasting it on things like universal healthcare, infrastructure, education, and all of those other less important items.
When Big Dick Cheney shows up with hundreds of billions in U.S. taxpayer cash in his airplane, everything should be just fine in ole' Dubai.
I recalled that Dubai had been forced to sell off its U.S. ports to a U.S. company. Then I looked again and found out that the ports were sold to AIG.
Can't win for losing...
Progressives might want to organize a huge consumer boycott of contributors to conservatives in the house and senate
Go see http://www.democratz.org
Sure, boycotting can be very effective.
I would also like to start a new political party in my home state. I haven't called myself a Democrat for a while now, and I have my ideas for a new party platform. :)
Catholic Church a problem, not just in the US, of course.
Catholic Church attacks IVF in Poland
IVF = In Vitro Fertilization
way for couples to concieve wanted children? Even though I fail to understand why they would.
Here's a link to a debate on the following resolution: The Catholic Church is a force for good in the world.
On the pro-side, Archbishop John Onaiyekan and snotty member of the British Parliament, Ann Widdecombe.
On the anti-side, Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry.
In my opinion, and the audience's, Hitchens and Fry easily carry the day.

Karen, thanks for posting. It lead me to this (see below). I SOOOOO wanted to watch it, but I was on a course in Bangkok when it aired, and had no TV. When I returned home I went to the BBC site to find it, and they had already taken it down.
Bush Is The Worst President Of The Last 50 yrs Debate

I haven't watched it yet, but some folks here might enjoy it. I'm sure I will.
Only 50 years? He's the worst EVAR!
All I can say is... I'm glad Henry VIII broke with the Catholic church, otherwise I might have been raised one.
or I might have been raised Catholic too. The only way her Catholicism really influenced me specifically is she pleaded with my Mom to get me baptized by any denomination, not necesarily Catholic. Other than that, she was very relaxed and didn't mind what religion us kids belonged to or didn't belong to.
So I met the "star" of Collapse at a screening a li'l while ago, and I asked him about how Obama can possibly think that an extended tour of Afghanistan is sustainable in the face of peak oil and the decline of the dollar. And his argument for why we're there is that we're hoping to skim some dough off the heroin biz and use it to plug up our deficit. [He apparently was one of the guys who testified about the CIA crack cocaine deals in the 80s.] But Ruppert doesn't think that the money will pay for anything, and he believes this war is an extension of a dying system. Anyway, speaking of Obama, a Huffpo piece which reflects the feelings of those who are also getting a sense of diminishing returns from the Prez, courtesy of Hollywood Elsewhere. And Bush almost had Osama, but let him go. I wonder if Repugs are gonna pull that "But Clinton lost him ten years ago, too!" meme now. Vietnam+Iraq=Afghanistan. The elderly rush to food pantries. We appreciate what you're doing about foreclosures, Barry, but they're not sustainable without a job market. Meet the new boss, Pakistan-style. The NRA helped to create an unhappy Thanksgiving.
...is still all those suitcases full of American dollars that disappear into other countries' black markets. Untold billions. What actually happens to those?

but being a paraplegic, it doesn't interest me.
I have to elaborate a little more on this.
When I was in WWI I stepped on a land mine and lost my left foot and my right nut. After I recovered and came home I married and had 3 beutiful children.
Then along came WWII and I felt the need to go to war for my country and our freedom and democracy. In that war I stepped on another land mine and lost my right foot and my left nut. After I recovered I came home and remarried and had 4 beautiful chidren.
I thought that I would be done fighting wars but along came the Korean conflict. So as a good soldier I went over to Korea to help keep them commies from attacking us here. We were getting ambushed by sniper fire and I hit the dirt and landed on a land mine and lost my left arm and my 3rd nut. After I recovered I came home and remarried a 3rd wife and sired 5 more beautiful children.
I thought I would be all done fighting, but here came that damn Viet Nam war. I decided to send my kids to school and volunteer one more time and when we got into a firefight I was shot twice. One 50 caliber shot took off my right arm and another sniper took out my 4th nut. When I recovered, I came home and remarried and sired 6 more beautiful children.
Then came the 1st Iraq war when GHW Bush was prez and I really felt we needed that oil so I went over for my country and democracy and oil again. This time I was lucky and only got shot in my 5th nut. I came home again and married my 5th wife and it's kinda worriesome. I used to have a lot of friends come over and we would drink all night long til I passed out and my wives at the time would always be up and ready to fix all my friends breakfast in the morning and everybody would always be real happy.
Oh, let me tell you why I was always so fortunate. Since I was a kid my nickname was Lucky.
Good thing you had lots of spare nuts or most of those kids wouldn't have happened. :)
See, I knew it. It was all the MSM's fault!
SP is really a genius. I guess I will vote for her if she runs for...Dogcatcher
WASHINGTON, DC – Ronald Reagan misled the public when he claimed the “Star Wars” defense system was to protect us from a Russian nuclear attack.
In fact, the space-based system was created to shield America from alien invaders, according to Harold Sprague, author of the upcoming book Dawn of Deception.
“The real enemy is, and always has been, extraterrestrial.”
“At first our government tried to work with the E.T.s – but in 1979, a group of human scientists were massacred by the aliens and officials realized that they were up to no good.
“When Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980, he proposed building an elaborate array of tracking satellites and powerful laser weapons in space to prevent any more UFOs from reaching Earth.
“At the time, Reagan told the public we were working on a huge nuclear ‘umbrella’ to protect us from a Russian sneak attack.
“By and large, gullible Americans bought that unlikely cover story.”
http://weeklyworldnews.com/alien-alert/13917/...
Yeah, that gullible public! They bought the cover story about Soviet missiles! The Soviets probably had no missiles at all, and surely the better explanation is ETs!
Ahh, WWN, the proto-FUX News.
I figgered we was just doin' that Star Wars thang so we could launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike at Russia and when they tried to retaliate we could protect ourselves!
i've had an anti-nuclear matchbook all these years and there are no heads on the matches. It says, "NO FIRST STRIKE!"
And the U.S. has gotten so darn good at that ol' pre-emptive thang too. "Shock and Awe" sure showed 'em, didn't it?!
Didn't it??
teaser: Jesus found in unlikely place
US woman sees image of Jesus on her iron says it's proof that 'he's listening'
Firstly, why is this news? The woman has a dirty iron. The image could be anyone, why Jesus, and why news? Good work AP: top.notch reportage.
Sorry no pic with the article. The pic was on Yahoo page.
The news in the story should be about how religion makes people crazy.
Shit keeps falling out of the sky on this woman, but since the pareidolia effect causes her to see something in a stain, she thinks everything is going to be okay. The bad stuff might be happening, but a magic person in the sky is listening to her, and will make everything work out.
But no. We're supposed to "respect" beliefs like that. And they become their own legitimate media stories. How sad.
Too bad HE wasn't listening when her marriage dissolved and she had her hours cut at work. I'm sure she has a "rational" explanation for that.
How sad, is right.
...belief is a very strong motivating factor for changing one's life. She is likely now to actually improve her life simply because she feels that it WILL happen. Never mind the Jesus part; that's her crutch. I applaud her, and people like her, for actually changing the "shit is falling on me" mindset.
Yes. I can agree with what you say. Too bad her belief, which I can understand, becomes a news item on the AP, because of Jesus on a steam iron. I, for one, can't get enough Jesus in my news.
I have some little tricks, beliefs, from yoga, but they won't be on the AP. I'm more likely to be called a dirty-effing-hippie, prolly whacked-out on drugs, or sumpthin'.

while you folks are obsessing about Sarah Palin, our hero Obama is about to send 30,000 or more young Americans to Afghanistan. Talk about victims...
Who says we're obsessing about Queen Sara?
Who says Obama is our hero?
I say that the liberal media are obsessing about Sarah Palin.
Every day we are given photos and articles telling us about what she is doing and saying.
By "our" hero, I was being ironic. I meant to say that progressives and liberals are still under the impression that Obama is one of them. Afghanistan is barely a topic. Iraq is nowhere to be seen. You'd never know that we were still at war and spending 720,000,000.00 dollars a day there. All we get to see is Obama greeting the rich and famous along with family portraits and Michelle reading stories to children.
are obsessing about Glenn Beck.
We should all just mail straight jackets to Fox for Glenn and move on with our lives. If I never saw another thread about his rantings here at C&L again it would be too soon.
too.
After his speech on the 1st when, it is presumed, he will renew the perpetual war with one of his trademark brand Obama speeches, to which a number of the less astutely analytical but otherwise happy rabbits will say "out of the park", those who knew already, will be reminded that a silver tongue is not a silver bullet.
Can we then recall the Congress and replace it with representatives of the people?
And will they then proceed to impeach the warmonger?
One could hope, but that regime is already trademarked, and much abused.
End the wars, end the empire and end imperialism. Now! as we will come to find again:
Let's have war on poverty instead.
while we're at it?
Mark Pittman, journalist, has passed away at age 52. He wrote recently for Bloomberg and covered the looming subprime debacle before just about anyone. His denied FOIA quest against the Federal Reserve led to Bloomberg's thus far successful but appealed lawsuit against them for accountability.
Obit by Bob Ivry here
From Ryan Chittum at Columbia Journalism Review here
From Ivry:
Imagine this image with three conservatives tying up Obama and leaving him in the path of a train. Wouldn't be very acceptable would it? It' called 'acting responsibily' C & L, look into it.
(and yes, Obama purity patrol, I hate the Neocons too, so let that one go)
with you, Count.
Firstly, I don't know why liberals obsess over conservatives like Sarah Palin.
They love to print their pictures and recount their sayings and statements.
I also learned, during the primaries, and saw the treatment accorded Hillary Clinton by the "liberal"media - the NY Times, the Washington Post, etc - and ESPECIALLY Huffington Post and DailyKos - that women are unending sources for the venting of hatred and hostility. This is one of the last spots where the equivalent of racism is allowed and encouraged in America.
Why do conservatives obsess over Obama, Pelosi, Grayson?
... because they want more material for comics and SNL.

clean the fish tank. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend. We watched The Great Pumpkin and a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving yesterday. I remember when the first CB hit the airways in 1965 with A Charlie Brown Christmas. Those show, along with Boris Karloff doing the Grinch, were very special even though I was 13.
