Not looking forward to the heating bill.
As I live in "the shoebox" (see yesterday's open thread) the heating bill is manageable. There are benefits to being scaled back. (Less cleaning too.)

very nice to come in to, after shoveling 20cms of powder at midnite ... its nice here when everything is covered in a blanket of fresh snow... the pretty little black and white mergansers are swimming in the bay even tho its almost frozen over ... (wish I didn't have to go to work).

I miss that kinda stuff about living in Canada; that whole scene you described.
I saw the Chinese are now making burnable stove pellets from all kinds of things that used to be waste, like corn stalks. However they explained it (can't remember details), it's more eco-friendly than what they used to do, saves on using coal and wood/trees.

Saw El Limpballs on Faux a little earlier this evening, unfortunately not speaking from his death bed.
As predicted by several folks on C&L yesterday, Rush was was just as effusive as he could be praising the US health care system and about the wonderful, competent, efficient treatment he received, for what was most likely a contrived problem in the first place.
He blurted that his experience Proves that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the health care system - it does not need reform of any kind. Which is pretty much correct, the health care practitioners we have are generally quite excellent - problem is El Lardo, millions don't have access to the health care because they have no insurance and can't afford to pay for it!!!
Expect to see his diatribe repeated ad infinitum for the next few weeks.

I hear you on the Chertoff part. Something else that stood out is here we are in a "time of war" and private contractors are winning bids and supplying limited, expensive scanners instead of the government obtaining as many as possible, even if they do show you neeked (OMG not in our conservative society)
And help me please. You are telling me that Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, where the Lockerbie bombed plane took off, does not have a full body scanner?
