too bad i wasnt watching
was working
I watched it until the end of the third. terrible time to turn it off, but I still don't miss football.
.....being a native of St. Louis, I've got to go with the Clydedales Donkey ad......but the insects stealing the bottle of Coke was incredibly well done and I want some of whatever they were taking when they thought the ad up.......

...the Teleflora "talking flowers" one. The exchange in the last couple seconds was beautifully timed.

And the Budweiser commercials were so gawddamn sappy and lame, I wanted to throw something at the teevee.
Looks like the "youtuber" who picked these favorites might be working for Budweiser... :)
What makes you think so.
It really is a wonder that in the US a company making a remarkably lousy product can dominate their industry so much...and Budweiser is just one of many examples.
Identity Through Consumption
That's the advice Madison Avenue psychiatrists gave to the advertising industry, in the late 1950's, to assist them in crafting ads that would appeal to the average American.
Identity Through Consumption
You ARE what you wear, what you drive, what you drink.
You establish YOUR unique identity by the BRANDS you consume.
When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?
Not soon enough!
Just ask my fifteen year old niece.
Coleman hopes SCOTUS overturns another Democratic election. Springsteen has to apologize for dealing with The Devil. The Brits are starting to let our education system rub off on them. I wish all children of vets were this lucky. Americans are wary of spending, for some reason. Don't forget about Somalia, Barry. Russian journalists have a low life expectancy. Senate Republicans hate the stimulus so much, they'll go against party governors.
I guess on Weekend Update they said the Cardinals and Steelers would be opening for Springsteen at the Superbowl.
Har, har.
My cable went out. Thank God I had a 5 hour "Jane Eyre" BBC movie to watch from Netflix.

But who thinks this is a shot across the bow - a "you do this and we are going to have one hell-u-va hissy fit?"

kinda bread and circuses to me...
me-oww!
What? Did I miss the revolution or something?
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
We figured it was the easiest time to take over, everyone watching the game. Alice and I installed President Nader in office while the rest of the country watched the game...crisis averted BTW...
:D
me-oww!
that were true!
I'd rather have Bobby Kennedy Jr. than Nader!
was busy...watching the game.
me-oww!
or just dropped by?
it's a given.
me-oww!
RFK, jr. announces, the first thing you read in the press says HEROIN in the first sentence...
Yeah, Obama breezed through the drugs thing, but he never admitted to heroin use, chippy or not. Bobby, as deserving as he is of a shot at any political office, will never live to see the day when a heroin user will win the Presidency. Sorry, not even if you think he's the greatest thing since...Whatever...Just won't happen.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
like Nader has a snowballs chance in hell!
All we needed was a super huge mofoing distraction and BAM!!! Not only did we save the country, we saved the world, and it's a new Renaissance.
Drink up, bitches! We're gonna make it rain!
me-oww!
Won't that cause global wetting?
My man
me-oww!
"wettening".
It's got a better ring.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
Have a chance in hell, that is.
I don't dislike Nader so much for his stances on issues, though I don't agree with everything he says, but the guy won't do the work to help get like-minded folks elected to Congress.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
was because he's Arab.
me-oww!
Isn't he Lebanese? Not all Lebanese are Arabs. I'm not talking about religion, necessarily, either, though a big chunk of Lebanese Christians have roots that trace to the area before the Arabs moved in.
(my side of town had enough Lebanese- my neighbors who were like my big brothers amongst them, so I've had it explained in front of me enough.)
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
I thought Lebanon was Arabic. I dunno. OK But the Lebanese thing. That was it...
:P
me-oww!
Kucinich would whup their butts...not literally, but you know what I mean.
So I guess both sides of the aisle in both chambers of Congress are to be considered obstructionist now?

NBC rejected the video because of concerns over "rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin...
Nice! :D
Hey, I'm an animal lover, but isn't it PETA that wanted fish to be renamed "sea kittens", or was that from The Onion? ;)
If so, how'd they miss the one where the Clydesdale chased the dancing horse to "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"?
Corruption favors the wealthy.
Made the Japanese and German auto companies look like fascists- I mean Hitler and Tojo.
If that ad had come from Detroit there'd be an uproar...Might still be, but had GM released that ad, Rick Wagoner would have been canned before the game ended.

I didn't pick up on the hitler/tojo idea but it struck me as a glaring omissions that there were no angry american auto ceo's.
American auto execs are too stupid to be angry; they wouldn't get it until about ten years later.

Conservatives and Religious groups are upset that NBC rejected the ad
Now watch that commercial and replace the fetus with Adolf Hitler.
"Death. Imagine the potential."
It works both ways you silly pro-lifers.
I drew a cartoon several years ago, where an obviously conservative middle-aged couple were watching a TV commercial, and he was exulting, "At last an anti-abortion commercial that pulls no punches."
And she says, "Those aren't dead fetuses honey, they're dead soldiers."
So he says, "Those damn sick liberals!"
No one I showed it to got it.

Anyone like Isabella Rossellini? There are several brief shorts that she wrote and starred in recently. They are quite entertaining. They are called "Green Porn".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNF0ADLIswk
I still haven't figured out the purpose of these films. Education, entertainment or fantasy?
having a fantasy about her mother, just saying!
Man, my mom was telling me what a weird, and creative, family she came from. her dad was famous too.
I just came across this. A short interview of her explaining her Green Porn series.

but I wonder if she does the sex life of a honeybee? Do you know the male bee's genitals get torn from his body just like the stinger of a worker after stinging someone?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-V621BxHZQ
Fuck yea she's got the honey bee covered. the part where her penis comes off after sex is the best part.
And no I didn't know that...... Until Isabella taught me.
as primates are the only ones to have sex for pleasure and not so much for procreation!

Those monkeys have it figured out man. If America could be more like Bonobos, we would have a lot of our problems solved.
For those who don't know, Bonobos solve all problems and conflicts through sex.
Shit they have sex even when there aren't any problems or conflicts.
They do have it figured out, lol!
Sometimes I wonder who the more intelligent species really is.
Anyone see any good threads on the conservative blogs on Steele - I did some google searching and couldn't come up with much... strangely silent - this Judd Gregg thing has them scared sh!tless though...
Good game, with a very exciting 4th quarter. Too bad for the Cardinals, who last won a championship in '47, but some spectacular plays by both teams.
Too many penalties for it to be considered "great".
But both of Fitzgerald's TDs were GREAT! Holmes TD at the end was GREAT! And Harrison's return was a thing that will go down in history! I can't wait to see what NFL Films will do with that return.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
He'll bring most of 'em home in time for the next Superbowl. I hope the neo-cons don't suddenly take credit for the "peaceful" election, though.
And Rushbo (on his radio show) predicted Palin to be voted as the GOP Chair. It was Steele who the GOP decided.
I believe it was on Jon Stewart, where it was predicted that the GOP would simply dunk itself in chocolate and resell itself.
Was Micheal Steele that Dunk?
On the Steele front - so very little is written - but I did come across a imaginary oreo thrown at him - a little lie from the man of Steele himself. Also some right winger gave Steele the run down as to what kind of gun to buy since he doesn't own one - an elaborate analysis of different types of firearms but not too much policy in the erstwhile full page of ammo/handgun/rifle recommendations and finally that he was paid to run for senate. Additionally I learned that MLK was GOP.
GOP is the new black - get used to it honkeys!
Trying to sell Bud as beer requires a lot of imaginative advertisement.
It always makes me laugh that people who consider themselves 'manly men' and 'real murcans' and all that hooey, drink what is essentially the lamest beverage on the planet (since they cancelled zima).
But now that zima's gone the way of tequiza...there's a new sissified drink....smirnoff ice.
budweiser sucks so bad...I only use it for cooking purposes.
LNM I am never eating over at your house.
Did you know Budweiser is actually a very popular import to some europeans? I asked a Swiss guy what his favorite beer was and he said budweiser.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is one of the best beers. They have almost zero advertising and have become the 9th largest brewery in the world. Located in Chico, Ca.
Don't knock it 'til ya try it...
Yesterday, I marinated fresh bratwurst in budweiser and chopped onions...then par boiled them and grilled them the rest of the way...unless you're a veggie...you woulda wanted one!
Yeah...I have relatives born and raised in Germany...they LOVE Budweiser...strikes me as a bit odd...
The Sierra Nevada ale is pretty damn good...but I'm a poor bastard lately...so I've been goin back to the PBR...(can't afford Becks anymore)
It's not a bad beer really...better than bud IMHO.

Addicting. Thanks for the link, love it.
Oddly for me, it ended up falling into the trap of other MMOs (more grind, less fun).
Yes, had a great corp, PvP and PvE action, some great indutrialists as well as PvP tacticians, was in on some interesting kill-mails (access to all the things you should have to enjoy EVE fullly for non-EVEers). I found they replaced the EXP grind with an ISK grind (in game currency for non-EVEers). I eventually hit a wall where the grind-time wasn't worth it.
The killer with me and MMOs is that while I have enough free time to play one, I am also a round the clock caregiver to someone with disabilities. So I may need to go AFK, randomly, with little or no warning, I may be back in 3 minutes, or three hours, and I often can't predict how long when I have to get up ... So time to grind ISK in dangerous high-yield places? or safe grinds that take forever, but I can AFK? Oh and the whole war-dec in high-sec thing (we had shell corps go on rotation and keep us under constant war-dec to try for our industrialists). So with my play-time pattern, I had to stay logged out or in-station only, if I didn't have time to convoy to a staging spot. And, I rarely know I have X amount of playtime when I log in.
Hmmm... its a killer. OK guys stop pewpew, start again when I'm back in oh, I don't know some random number of minutes between 3 and 300. Yes, I know you EVE players just busted out laughing when you read that.
MMOs are great, I'm still waiting for one with a design that allows for real people with responsibilities to play. EVE is a great MMO though, I still follow the politics.
...are ultimately about the people with whom you play. Player guilds/corporations etc who can accommodate for 3 to 300 min afk times are found in all those games, but they are darn hard to find :P
I would guess though that they are easier to find in EVE than elsewhere, as in that cutthroat universe you really learn to appreciate having friends around :)
And it was a great corp. They did everything possible to deal with me, with no complaints knowing why I needed to play that way. Great people, and you do really get to know your corpmates.
But, too many things in EVE, I simply could not participate in unless I knew I had X amount of time. I could list them, but if you start really thinking about it, you'll see. EVE really does (fairly enough - it is their risk-reward design) make the "safer" more AFK-friendly activities horridly tedious. The jump clones helped a lot, I'll say that. I was still subbed when they added those.
So, nah, EVE was actually one of the worst, as the penalty my flexible time needs was tedium ... **extreme tedium**. But, a few features seem to be helping (jump clones, massive fleet battles - so what you lose one repper/tackler/scout). Making EVE more friendly to random AFKers I think would be hard without adding things that would be too easily exploited. Still, good game, if you have the time.
"L.A. Times lead story, 'CIA retains power to abduct ... Under executive orders issued by Obama recently, the CIA still has authority to carry out what are known as renditions, secret abductions and transfers of prisoners to countries that cooperate with the United States. Current and former U.S. intelligence officials said that the rendition program might be poised to play an expanded role going forward because it was the main remaining mechanism -- aside from Predator missile strikes -- for taking suspected terrorists off the street."
Change....
Go to www.washingtonmonthly.com and read Hilzoy's piece on it. The LAT article is an absolute lie.
This is the direct link to the article at WM.
I like how it's ok for us to have missile strikes against "suspected terrorists"................. Who's defining the suspicion??
Republicans are stupid, stupid people not unlike Homer Simpson who keeps getting shocked over and over again trying to steal that wired cup cake.
So they inflame the pork rind-crunching masses by openly wishing for Obama to fail, as if his failure will result in unparalleled prosperity for America. Homer keeps getting shocked by the wired cupcake. Charlie Brown keeps getting fooled by Lucy and the football. And everytime a Republican opens their mouth, Albert Einstein is proven right time and time again.

The Boss is an excellent performer even if you do not like his music. I saw him in concert as a challenge to a friend. I insisted I would not like him. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen and I saw a lot of bands growing up in LA.
As far as the sell outs, Bruce and Bob Dylan you make me sick. These mega corporations are a huge part of the problem, and we have stars, supposedly idealistic, who have plenty of money, saying yes to anything for the right dollar.
His music is just really hokey IMHO....
Yeah...Dylan has sold out...what a shame.

HERE’S a bottom line to keep you up at night: The economy is falling faster than Washington can get moving. The crisis is at least as grave as the one that confronted us — and, for a time, united us — after 9/11. Which is why the antics among Republicans on Capitol Hill seem so surreal. These are the same politicians who only yesterday smeared the patriotism of any dissenters from Bush’s “war on terror.”
The nightmare is that we have so irrelevant, clownish and childish an opposition party at a moment when America is in an all-hands-on-deck emergency that’s as trying as war. To paraphrase a [well-known] dictum, the Republicans should either lead, follow or get out of the grown-ups’ way.

There’s more at stake here than fairness, although that matters too. Saving the economy is going to be very expensive: that $800 billion stimulus plan is probably just a down payment, and rescuing the financial system, even if it’s done right, is going to cost hundreds of billions more. We can’t afford to squander money giving huge windfalls to banks and their executives, merely to preserve the illusion of private ownership.
California is told to furlough employees - http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-budge...
California officials must immediately implement Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's order that state employees take two days off without pay each month, a judge ruled Thursday, denying claims by unions and the controller that the governor's directive is illegal. The decision clears the way for the biggest rollback of the state payroll in decades. Starting next week, 238,000 state employees will be furloughed on the first and third Fridays of each month. Some state offices that provide public services, including DMV field offices, will be closed on those days.

So any performer who performs for money is a sellout? You only like starving artists, I take it? Particularly those who nobody else has ever heard of. Makes them more special for you, don't it?
That wasn't the comment. I was referring to two artists, who have it made, allowing a song or their personage to become a product's identity, rather than the work of art that it should be.
Now when you see Bruce, you think of Disneyland. That's just fucking great.
Some of the best artist have "never been heard of" and that is precisely what makes them so special and unique.
I don't think Frank Zappa would have ever said "I'm going to Disneyland." But he still reached a lot of people and made plenty of money.

"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
Because, ya know, most of us east of the Rocky Mountains don't think about Disneyland. Walt built a much larger complex in Florida with more attractions and a lot more hotels. It's called Disney World.
The NFL would never ask Frank to play the Super Bowl halftime because 75% (at least) of the viewing public wouldn't know two of his songs, let alone four of them. Dude's timeless (snark) top three songs on the charts were, iirc, Dancing Fool (a jab at disco), I Don't Wanna Get Drafted (damn you for making us register for the draft, Jimmy Carter), and Valley Girl (and Moon Unit is about my age, so they'd have to change the name of the song to Valley Middle-Aged Woman).
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
...That plays the corporate whoregasborg that is the superbowl is probably a sellout. Any artist That plays the corporate whoregasborg that is the superbowl AND tops it off with "I'm going to Disneyland!" is definitely a sellout.

Idiot Americans watch grown men play children's games in stadiums built for wealthy capitalist pigs by taxpayer dollars, and are actually entertained by watching the stupid commercials of capitalist drug dealers (alcohol kills more than 75,000 Americans every year--teens are 5 times as likely to die from alcohol than from all other drugs combined). Americans cheer the capitalist pigs who have destroyed the nation.
Just another reason why the vote and public office should be restricted to those with IQs of 140 and above.
Can you show me that people with IQ's of 140 and over are by any measurable standard happier than anyone else? Have better decision making abilities than anyone else? Lead better lives? Have better relationships? You think no one with an IQ over 140 voted for Bush? Lost money in the stock market? Hate to burst your bubble but having an IQ over 140 doesn't mean a whole lot in any kind of practical sense.
With an IQ over 140 and common sense?
