I'd love to stick a few pins in the real Pat.

Johnny2Bad's picture

Sell the pins (implanted by the winner) for a buck.

I like it, but I think I'll pass.

My family already has a curse from a small head figurine we found in Mexico back in '75. After doing some research on the web, we've concluded it is over 4000 years old.

Johnny2Bad's picture

Your family is 4000 years old???

Amazing.

Well my family was already listed as an ancient race in Scotland in the Domesday Book of 1086.

D'oh! The Domesday Book covered only England, not Scotland!

The typical dates for Abraham's life are around 1800-1600 BCE, so the twelve tribes who are Jacob's children would be from about 3500 years ago. Not everybody's got a complete genealogy, obviously, but anybody who knows which tribe they're from has at least some history.

In my case, ancestry.com lists some part of my family as going back to Thor and Odin, but I'd call parts of that a bit speculative...

Like many things on e-bay, the auction for this item has clearly run well past its true value. No way is whatever soul Pat Robertson might have worth anywhere close to $520.

Someone thinks it's worth $750 now.

If someone mass produced them I'd take 6. Perhaps a keychain model.

You could jab a lot of pins in that one!

"Q: Is the doll anatomically correct? Stringing him up by his balls sounds like fun to me.
A: Unfortunately the doll IS anatomically correct, which means it has no balls."

It's at 750 now.

The RW whiners will get a hold of this and scream that it's racist.

They scream anyway, we might as well frame it.

Anti-Christian, Un-American and racist.

Probably in that order.

Barrel.

BANG!

they were made with in haiti to raise money

Get tweeting. Big bucks to be made for the Haitians themselves. They might already have a few dolls kicking around ready-to-go.

Bluegal, you've outdone yourself here. Good work. My favourite post in a while.

.. has a soul?

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

Shadowgm's picture

I mean, clearly, Robertson's soul is defective. It's all grungy and stained, and it makes weird noises when you plug it in.

So paying good money for bunged-up merchandise doesn't make any sense.

whatshername's picture

Only 27 percent of their KAtrina donations was used to help people. They didn't even try to get into the city or even complain that they were refused entry. I'm getting tired of progressives pimping such a messed up organization.

The Rush Limbaugh doll is being auctioned to benefit Doctors Without Borders.

If I remember correctly, for an auction to be done to directly benefit the charity, it has to be one of the charities on eBay's list. The winner doesn't have to worry about buying something for charity and having the seller just never get around to sending the donation - the seller never gets a dime. It's sent by eBay directly to the charity.

I thought a voodoo doll was supposed to look like it's target

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfmdEeg393I

In case any one asks, there was such magick by analogy in the European occult, but there they were called poppets, and featured often in accusations if not actuality.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

SadButTrue's picture

..and my understanding was that it required something from the target person to make it work - a clipping of hair or some fingernails, say.

Nonetheless, whoever put this on E-bay has made a brilliant point against Robertson.

"In theory theory and practice are alike. In practice they are very different."

Sympathetic magick is a form of magick by analogy which is the over-arching term.

But magick by analogy includes the Tables of Correspondence such as equating the color yellow with a metal like gold, something in nature like the sun, and a more abstract principle like wealth or kingship or power. Sympathies are said to be the power connecting such disparate elements.

However one terms it, as analogy or sympathetic, separate or analogous terms themselves, they tend to be the terms of scholars not practitioners.

And the although nail parings and hair would give the spell punch, all that is really needed is knowledge of the person's name, which of course we have.

But it's no real threat to robertson, unless one you believe such power exists, and two the one using a poppet with malicious intent has to have some kind of naturally strong Will or training.

The funny thing is in Vodun, the target has to KNOW he's the target of a spell, using involving something like leaving a black feather of a chicken in his trail. Often they seem to give up on life, thinking it's inevitable. However, within their religion are Witch-doctors who can call the loa to protect him, and if he's somewhat Christianized, of course the saints can be summoned.

Your last point is well taken. Satire is considered one of the ultimate curses that can be laid on someone as pre-Christian minstrels knew (if you pardon the pun).

I'm not sure if Robertson is a fraud and a shyster , insane or all of the above . It blows my mind that people can be so STUPID as to give this jackass a penny but then again it blows my mind that people listen to Fox and Limbaugh and support / vote Republican . I do believe we have the dumbest population on this entire planet ."whatshername" , I don't know about your numbers regarding the Red Cross but I just donated to "Doctors without borders" specifically for Haiti , they have little over head and something like 87 % goes direct for relief which is pretty good . I am on unemployment , lost my job a year ago , , wife makes min wage part time , "can't afford it" but 35 bucks isn't going to save or break me but might save someone in Haiti . What a terrible heart breaking situation !

Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .

Makes my little donation seem small. I'm going to make another donation.

You guys are such fun, thanks. Love the idea of the Pat doll - but when would you really want to touch it? Gross! And I have this haunting fear that the bastard will sue the seller and end up with that money, too. He might even sue Haiti for indirectly causing him mental anguish or something.

"After an exclusive deal with devil, we are finally able to bring black magic into your very own home!"

Vodou (which is the variety of practice in Haiti) does not recognize the existence of the devil or Satan. The slave rebellion may have been blessed by Vodou clergy, but this is a far cry from the Christian notion of selling one's soul. Robertson's assertion that a deal of the sort he implies was made is the result of a tendency for fundamentalist Christians to consider anything outside their narrow little interpretation of the world to be Satanic. This may be due to his lack of sufficient credentials compared to others in similar positions (his divinity degree is a masters' not a doctorate - he couldn't hack advanced grad studies).

Not only that, but even though the seller says that the proceeds will be donated to earthquake relief, the donation broker they are using (MissionFish) deducts up to 20% of donated funds as a "processing fee". There are agencies out there that will make more efficient use of your donations.

billstewart's picture

Christianity may have acquired some folk traditions about selling your soul to the Devil, but there's certainly nothing scriptural about it, much less anything even hinting you can sell the souls of future generations or anybody else.

In many traditions, even the concept that you can sell your own soul is viewed as blasphemous (so don't try it in Ireland, where that'd be illegal), because it says God's unable to save the seller, though one could argue that the seller (who's obviously a sinner anyway) may be trying to sell something he can't legitimately guarantee delivery on so it's just another sin that'll need forgiving.

I'm not going to argue that Pat's blaspheming here, because that's between him and God, but it's certainly an insult to Christianity that he can be claiming such a deal exists or matters. I haven't asked the one Voudou practitioner I know what he thinks of voodoo dolls, but I assume he'd find them to be an insulting Western stereotype of his religion. On the other hand, he probably doesn't think much of Pat either..

ohhh noooo
it's been takin down...I was so enjoying it.

Taken down by eBay because the soul of Pat Robertson could not be verified to exist, ironically. Here's the new auction. It's over $670.00 again!
