US Senate Saturday Session Open Thread

gop-preexisting-condition_4c492.gif

Cartoon from Walt Handelsman at Newsday (reg. required for some pages).

No one can predict how today will go, there is some hope that since the Senate likes to appear to be the royalty of the Congress, we might avoid some of the circus antics that Saturday in the House brought. It's unlikely anyone will use procedural objections over and over to silence Barbara Boxer or Olympia Snowe.

It's an open thread for what you're seeing in, and thinking about, today's procedures.

Meh

Seems like both sides have already decided. Now both are just using the issue to get headlines and face time on TV.

As if the GOP will send one yes vote no matter how many amendments or how much discussion.

The GOP doesn't even care if their position is good politics or not - they will just say no. Somehow the M$M will make that the headline.

about those that attack the democrats because they have to cave in to a few amendments that a small percentage of blue dogs want when it is 100% of the regressive republicans that are responsible for blocking everything the majority tries to pass. The regressives want everything this administration wants to accomplish, to fail.

...

"those that attack the democrats"

Don't kid yourself they'd attack no matter what. It is a GOP dream to have D's attacking D's for the idiocy of the R's.

(too many fall for that crud)

I felt much better after I gave up hope…

Woody Allen

Seriously though, if they pass the thing, what do we have?

An enormous piece of crap…

:p$

It'll be a victory for Democrats. And an outstanding example of their stead-fast leadership and visionary vision.

It's not about health care reform.

No one on the progressive side wants to admit it but there is now an open war going on against President Obama and the Democratic party.

Is there an opening act?

Someone know where the popcorn, candy, and pop concession stand is? How bout hats and t-shirts.

are arguing for the Stupak amendment when they fail to mention that only one republican in the house voted for the House bill after they added it. What a bunch of hypocrites. Can't the regressive base see through their hypocracy?

It'd the party of "Nope" vs. the party of "I surrender".

Yep

The Know Nothings vs. the Do Nothings

The Sociopathic Party vs. the Tenuous and Futile Coalition of Myriad Non-Sociopaths

There is simply no reason to try to appease the Republicans and get them on board. It's like masturbating a gelding. Nothing good can result, and the only pleasure they'll derive is from watching you get frustrated.

So both Lincoln and Landrieu will vote yes to begin debate.

Here's the republican theme song for this whole year.....

I am seeing the blogs continue to cover this story as a "win vs. lose" dynamic. That couldn't be further from the truth. The bill(s) amounts to an unconscionable giveaway to the insurance industry at the expense of any hope of future legislation for true universal health care.

The blogsphere should be ashamed. The DEMOCRATS should be tarred and feathered. We are being betrayed by our own party, and it's a terrible, goddamn shame.

meh

Most of us here don't seem to have much faith in the Democratic Party.

My own party is the Socialists.

Tar and feathers is too good.

Drown 'em in a barrel of boogers. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

.....but I just LOVE the imagery!!

crunchy frog heap good....!

there's a real live frog in there?

The difference between being a member of the House and being a Senator was like chicken shit and chicken salad!

I tend to think that the Senate is more like the House now.

Another famous Texas saying about politics:

"The vice presidency is not worth a bucket of warm piss."

HuffPo was headlining this briefly last night. Ron Wyden's favorite issue in health care has long been patient choice, and it seems he has finally gotten something into the bill.

It's not clear from The Hill article whether this amendment could result in a public option available to all or if it is yet another compromise. If it's not another sell-out, this could seriously change things.

Today:
- The Senate is preparing to debate whether or not to have a debate about HealthCare/Health Insurance Reform.

- Elsewhere in the country, another 120 people will DIE today due to lack of health insurance.

to regressives talking about problems but not offering solutions.

Too bad health care reform won't cover this:
