Bill O'Reilly: Thinking that Sarah Palin is dumb is strictly the purview of 'the left'

Bill O'Reilly, last night on his Fox News show, discussing Sarah Palin:
O'Reilly: The perception that the governor is dumb comes almost exclusively from the left, does it not?
Well, no doubt there are a lot of people on the left who consider Sarah Palin dumb. But they're hardly alone.
In television interviews she was out of her depth in a shallow pool. She was limited in her ability to explain and defend her positions, and sometimes in knowing them. She couldn't say what she read because she didn't read anything. She was utterly unconcerned by all this and seemed in fact rather proud of it: It was evidence of her authenticity. She experienced criticism as both partisan and cruel because she could see no truth in any of it. She wasn't thoughtful enough to know she wasn't thoughtful enough. Her presentation up to the end has been scattered, illogical, manipulative and self-referential to the point of self-reverence. "I'm not wired that way," "I'm not a quitter," "I'm standing up for our values." I'm, I'm, I'm.
Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

Of course, there’s a difference between a lack of polish and a lack of coherence. Some of Palin’s interview responses can’t even be critiqued on their merits because they’re so nonsensical. “Let Sarah be Sarah” has become the latest rallying cry among my colleagues on the right. She’ll be fine if we just leave her alone, they say. Between prayers, I might add.
I think Sarah Palin was a huge mistake...Americans can be pretty jokey about their government when times are good, but when times are bad, they want to know do -- can you do the job? And when you have a candidate who so obviously has never thought about any of the issues that are going to be important to the next administration and whose knowledge is so shallow, it makes people -- it doesn't just make people offended, it makes them afraid.
[Sarah Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the Republican party. When I first started in journalism, I worked at the National Review for Bill Buckley. And Buckley famously said he'd rather be ruled by the first 2,000 names in the Boston phone book than by the Harvard faculty. But he didn't think those were the only two options. He thought it was important to have people on the conservative side who celebrated ideas, who celebrated learning. And his whole life was based on that, and that was also true for a lot of the other conservatives in the Reagan era. Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I'm afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices.
You don't have to be a liberal to conclude that Sarah Palin is not what they call "the sharpest tool in the shed" back in Alaska. You just have to be someone not consuming the Republican Clap Louder Kool Aid.

Sorry, my wife - with whom I usually watch and informally compete against in Jeopardy! - is smart. She even knows what newspapers and books she's read.
Palin's bizarre ramblings in her interviews, the disjointed, confused sentences in her speeches - it's more than lack of preparation or being uncomfortable with speaking in public - speak to either a severely limited intellect, or the particular kind of stupid that comes with a matching level of bullshit on parade.
It's okay to admit one doesn't know something, but then the onus is on you to investigate. Palin couldn't even tell us what the Vice President does and wanted, in fact, someone to tell her the answer, rather than take a moment with a basic book on American History/Civics.
give us some examples of Sarah's ... intelligence. It would be very interesting to hear about her clever ideas, discerning opinions and profound thoughts.
Of course BillO wouldn't recognize such things even if they came free with a vibrator.

The Couric and Gibson interviews were pretty revealing.

Just naming one periodical that she read regularly would have gone quite a way toward thwarting the opinion that she was a moron. At least until the next time she opened her mouth.

I think she's stupid. 'Dumb' implies that somebody is capable of learning. Sarah Palin is psychologically incapable of learning anything useful to the public because her focus is entirely on acquiring new tricks to help her create a glamorous facade with which to snooker credulous rubes. Outside of that narrow range, she has evinced no interest in learning anything.
That's not dumb, it's stupid.
She could do little damage in that capacity, anything beyond that was asking for trouble.
As a citizen of a small town myself, I'd hate to be saddled with the debt Wasilla ran up under her administration. Her incompetence was mind blowing.

I like writing, so when I saw this last night, I sent BillO about a 2 or 3 page email explaining why Palin is not intelligent (also sent one a week or so ago to him when he had a similar discussion).
I liked it when BillO defended her "intelligence" when he said that he was at the Repuglican Convention in Minnesota and saw her give a very rousing speech.....so that is evidence of her "intelligence." Never mind the fact that she had many advisors and tons of training in giving that speech; never mind that while she added some things to that speech, her speechwriter(s) wrote most of it. And, more importantly, never mind that during almost every interview she has given, she has shown how badly she mangles the English language.
I also liked it when one of his guests last night said something to the effect that Palin is attractive....so, is that some sort of evidence that she is intelligent???

the idea of intelligence works both ways. people at my office have been questioning those that think Sarah is "dumb" for weeks. this is the same group of people who around christmas time act outraged because holiday cards arrive from clients stating "happy holidays"... its all manufactured outrage.
I probably wouldn't find her lacking in intelligence, if the people who love her wouldn't wouldn't spend so much time trying to convince me that she is intelligent. its a slippery slope.
also the people in my office who love her, tend to be the types who spend all weekend at angels stadium, and enjoy telling the minions how they "dont read email" and "dont read books".

Bill has made a statement. Therefore, anyone who has been critical of Palin's critical thinking is the far left. Those quotes may have been from people on the right UNTIL Bill declared criticism was from the far left. Noonan, Parker et all are now, by definition, far left.

Pn this left I think Palin is a divisive person that does not have any morals in demonizing others to convice others to follow her that she can get what she wants and very possibly not qualified for nor is she prepared to represent all Americans. She led me to believe she has her America and then there is those others.
But this is why she fits as a republican. As for O Rielly, he has always portrayed himself as an independent. He says so himself. But he is definately always a blind loyal republican in everything he does and spews.
