Maryland's staunch MAGA House Rep. Andy Harris has been desperately dodging in-person town halls since 2023, and now we know why.

Harris went head-to-head in a debate with his Democratic opponent, Dan Schwartz, last night in Cambridge, Maryland, where both candidates were asked for their thoughts on President Trump's Russian deal for diesel fuel, as fuel prices skyrocket to record highs amid Donald's ongoing war with Iran.

"Making a deal with Russia to lift sanctions on their diesel when they are actively working with Iranian forces to kill our troops is not only wrong; it’s disgusting,” Schwartz responded to the question, "and it follows the pattern of this administration pardoning criminals."

The audience was largely quiet and attentive while Schwartz gave his answer. When it came to Harris, though, not so much.

"The facts are diesel prices have gone up. There’s no question about it. Why has it gone up? Because the Democrats have environmental regulations—" the MAGA Republican attempted to respond. But before he could even finish his sentence, the crowd dissolved into a sea of groans, shouts, and guffaws, leading Harris to blow a gasket on stage.

"This is the problem!" Harris whined to the crowd. "You all say you believe the First Amendment, but only if you agree with you! You should let me finish the sentence, ma'am. You are RUDE!"

Glenna Heckathorn, president of the League of Women Voters of the Mid-Shore, who was serving as the moderator for last night's debate, called on the crowd to remain civil, instructing both candidates to calm their supporters down.

Schwartz told his supporters in the crowd, "It's very important that you guys are able to hear from both of us tonight."

Harris only said, "My people aren't interfering with Mr. Schwartz. It's only one way."

By the time the debate had concluded, it seemed that Harris was still fired up and, if I had to venture a guess, more than a little humiliated, leading to yet another crash-out confrontation in the hall, this time with a reporter, whom he threatened with legal action for recording his hissy fit.

"You do not have my permission to record!" Harris bit at the reporter as he stuck his finger towards her face. "If you record, we will refer you to the prosecutor."

The reporter pointed out to him that "everyone in here is recording." But Harris doubled down, incorrectly citing Maryland's two-party state laws and repeatedly telling her he "refuses to give her permission to record."

One of the other reporters in the gaggle asked Harris if he knew the law -- which he clearly does not, given that Maryland does have a two-party law that disallows recording unless both parties have given consent; however, that law does not apply to situations such as press conferences or public forum events, where there can be no reasonable expectation of privacy.

He eventually demanded that someone take her camera and "get an officer in here."

This might honestly be the worst secondhand embarrassment I've ever felt—and that's saying something.
