[H/t America's Voice]

After her horrendous performance the other night in her debate with Democrat Terry Goddard, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is doing what she does best: Running from tough questions ... you know, what most folks call accountability:

Arizona voters won't be seeing any more debates between the top gubernatorial contenders.

Incumbent Republican Jan Brewer said Thursday she has no intention of participating in any more events with Democrat Terry Goddard. She said the only reason she debated him on Wednesday is she had to to qualify for more than $1.7 million in public funds for her campaign.

"I certainly will take my message in a different venue out to the people of Arizona," she said.

Yes, we can imagine what that venue will be. After 20-plus appearances on Fox News and none with any local TV journalists, we're getting the idea. (When she adds later in the piece that she will "be available for interviews," we're sure she will ... with Greta Van Susteren and Sean Hannity.)

Anyway, Brewer said, she believes the debates help Goddard more than they benefit her.

"Why would I want to give Terry a chance to redefine himself?" she said.

Translation: why create another situation where I would just be destroyed at my own hand?

Brewer conceded that her performance in Wednesday's debate, and her refusal to answer a question from reporters afterward, was not well-handled. That includes an opening statement when she lost her train of thought and went silent, and walking away after the event rather than answering questions about her prior statements about headless bodies in the desert.

Brewer blamed part of her post-debate activities on her gaffe in her opening statement. The governor also said she presumed reporters would want to talk to her about some of the issues raised during the hour-long, televised debate.

"All you guys were doing and talking were beheadings, beheadings, beheadings," the governor said. "That is something that has stuck with you all for so long, and I just felt we needed to move on."

Actually, Jan, the issue is that you have refused to retract those remarks, even though (a) they have been proven utterly false, and (b) they have helped kill the state's tourism economy.

And the fact is, you just don't want to answer that question. Because you can't without admitting you're a crappy governor.

No need to face the scrutiny of truth, just let the republican noise machine do it's magic.

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

Damn, if she's if she can't deal with a debate moderator how she she suppose to deal with Mexicans drug cartels beheading Arizonans?

She gives the impression that she can't find her way out of her own underpants. Once her bs has been said, she's got nothing.

I don't know what is going on with the republican party but I think they are trying to hook up with a circus so their sideshow characters can get more exposure. This chick and Sharron Angle are so weak they have to limit their public exposure. What the hell does that say about them as elected officials?. Like Palin, they are just too dumb to be anything but noise makers. Save them for New Year's Eve.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

She'll still be elected in a landslide.

It's ARIZONA, for Chrissakes. The same bin of crazy that gave us Gov. Evan Mecham.

"Whenever I'm in my house or my office, I always have a radio on. It keeps the lasers out."

"I've got black friends. I employ black people. I don't employ them because they are black; I employ them because they are the best people who applied for the cotton-picking job."

She did it for the free money. Classy.

I saw clips from the debate and after on Rachel Maddow. I don't know what is more disgusting, how insanely incompetent this woman is or the fact that she currently has a big lead in the race.

Its very simple: Noun verb "illegal immigration" noun verb "beheadings" noun verb - Its from the Giuliani playbook

Brewer, Angle, Palin, Bachmann, Virginia Foxx, and Marcia Blackburn are the caucus of coo coo! The rest of the party actually tries to either defend them through clenched teeth or just pretend that these women arent' an embarrassment to any party. They're vapid, ignorant, and down right spooky in their lack of knowledge about anything that isn't a lame ass talking point. And Brewer's meltdown was hilarious. Last night, Rachel was just mocking her stunning ability to choke on national tv. It was priceless! Just wait until Saturday Night live comes back. Hell, just wait until Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert get back. This should be fun!

Don't forget Jean Schmidt of Ohio's 2nd District. She's part of this group. Do you suppose conservative Republicans running the party push women like these up to run for office in order to intentionally set back the women's movement?

The only reason that she appeared at the debate was so that she'd qualify for welfare?

I laughed my fuckin' ass off when she pulled an Angle and literally ran away. Ran. For God's sake the woman was a goddamned chiropractor before she was governor. What in hell do you expect? Some group handpicked this idiot to be their figurehead. I have relatives in Arizona and I told them not to expect me to visit anytime soon. Those people are just to fuckin' weird.

The long, dark pits of silence or the extreme close ups of her face during the press conference that followed the debate? I found myself leaning away from my tv screen in horror! Her views aren't the only thing about her that's scary.

Headless bodies lie is that it evokes images of that movie "Night of the Living Dead" and she looks like one of those zombies with her pale face, sunken jaws and giant dentures, she's positively ghoulish!

debdebbyg's picture

The bar has been lowered by Sarah Palin. Ever since she decided not to talk to reporters, Republican politicians have just came out saying whatever they want, mostly lies. Then they refuse to answer any questions about what they have said. They just believe that the people do not need to know any more than what they say.

That should throw up enormous red flags to voters. Unfortunately, many Americans love to hear the red meat speeches, lies and more lies and they agree that the liars do not need to answer questions from the "Lame-stream media."

Brewer made me feel like I was in Twilight Zone. She was like a puppet that could not say anything but her memorized talking points -- "We did everything we could for Arizona." I expected to melt at any moment.

Excuse me, but exactly who is this supposed to appeal to? To me it looks like it's supposed to help liberals go on another one of their patented egoramas. This does nothing but preach to the converted.

According to the latest Rasmussen poll, Jan Brewer was beating her Democratic opponent, some mope named Goddard, to the tune of 57% to 38%. Isn't that funny?

Liberals: When Republicans are kicking our ass, we masturbate!

everytime terry runs for gov he loses.

she pulled a good one with the illegal thing.

even better than reagan's welfare queens.

the repubs are on the way back to finish the job they started in 94.

while americans line up to vote for them.

self destruction at its best.

make no mistake the demos will also cause self destruction the repubs just know how to do it faster.

blame the poorest of the poor for our problems that way we dont have to look into the mirror and see the ills of our society.

any society that makes mega profits off the sick and needy and has wars for corp profits needs to self destruct.

what would the universe be if we did not self destruct. we are corrupt to the core. wall street, banks, supreme court, insurance, military, politicans, etc.
