Glenn Beck was frothing at the mouth this week -- just before he went on an obviously much-needed vacation -- about an obscure French book that is hard to obtain and which no one appears to be reading, aside from a handful of anarchist aesthetes:

While the government warns that right-wing extremists could be domestic terrorists, and The New York Times, says I could incite those crazy conservatives to violence, the extreme left is actively calling for violence!

As world economies go down the tank and unemployment continues to rise, disenfranchised people are set to explode.

The dangerous leftist book that could spark this is "The Coming Insurrection." This is a call to arms for violent revolution, authored anonymously by a French group called the Invisible Committee who want to bring down capitalism.

This started in France and spread to countries like Greece and Iceland, where people are out of work, out of money and out of patience.

Now it's coming here. The book comes out in English in the U.S. in August. I have one of the first English copies.

... Remember the media will tell you the right is the one to be feared. They do everything they can to tie any random nutjob shooting to conservatives. "The shooter was a fan of '24' — '24' starred Jon Voight — Jon Voight is a conservative!"

But this is a call for violence. Here is more:

"It's a question of knowing how to fight, to pick locks, to set broken bones and treat sicknesses; how to build a pirate radio transmitter; how to set up street kitchens; how to aim straight."

The synopsis of the book describes it as "an eloquent call to arms arising from the recent waves of social contestation in France and Europe... a strategic prescription for an emergent war-machine to spread anarchy and live communism."

A few years ago I said that Europe is on the brink of destruction. This is yet another sign that it's coming. Even in Japan where protests have been seen as taboo since the 1960s, young people angered over the economy and fear for their future — taking to the streets, beginning to unionize. The communist party of Japan says they are getting 1,000 new members a month.

This book has not even been released in this country yet. It has been passed hand to hand and via the Internet, much like the pamphleteers in pre-revolution America. Thomas Paine was one of them. He issued a call to arms. I am not doing that. You are an idiot if you start shooting people — all that does is delegitimize the cause. Be like Ghandi, like Martin Luther King.

But people on the extreme left are calling people to arms.

Funny thing about that. The extreme right -- the people Glenn Beck wants you to forget all about -- have actually been calling people to arms for a number of years now.

They've done it with books like The Turner Diaries and Hunter, as well as lesser-known texts such as Richard Kelly Hoskins' Vigilantes of Christendom, Robert Pummer's The Road Back to America, and Ben Klassen's The White Man's Bible. All these texts explicitly advocate the use of lethal violence on a massive scale in instituting white-supremacist rule. And they have roughly the same kind of circulation that The Coming Insurrection does.

Which is to say, they're largely relegated to the fringes. But that doesn't mean people don't act on them -- these books have in fact inspired the very kinds of acts of domestic terrorism that Beck wants to pretend away as just "isolated incidents" that have nothing, nothing at all!, to do with right-wing fearmongers like himself.

The people who read these books are very much with us. In the 1990s, they called it the militia movement or the "Patriot" movement. Now they just call it the Glenn Beck Fan Club. Some of them are the same folks who have been putting Beck's screed, Common Sense, on the bestseller list.

Hmmmmm... Can you say, "projection," people? I knew you could.

I gotta get me one of those tubes up here so I can grab me a copy next time one comes flyin' by. I promise to stuff it back in when I'm done with it.

Has Glenn been reading French? Remember what happened to "French Fries" when they didn't agree to kill the people of Iraq? Glenn will be down on his soiled kneepads to the Hut before long.

he flunked the course...

Beck never took French in college because he never went.

Beck never read this book because it will not be published in English until August, 2009

So, what, exactly, is this jerk trying to say??

Beats the hell out of me! You too, I bet.

Glenn Beck doesn't know how to read, period!

;-)

Never underestimate the enemy/opposition.

I wish he were stupid but he ain't.

"misunderestimate"?

)O(

Croix de Feur?

I knew Glenn Beck was one of those french book reading wackjobs. I bet he orders french fries to. You disgust me you wine sipping pansy-waist foo-foo!

®

LOL. You said foo-foo.

They're now called Freedom Fries. :-)

You can bet the farm that Glenbo sure in hell didn't read this.

"It's a question of knowing how to fight, to pick locks, to set broken bones and treat sicknesses; how to build a pirate radio transmitter; how to set up street kitchens; how to aim straight."

And this is supposed to be terrifying?

... they are gearing up for an imaginary civil war, where they get to get rid of us pesky liberals. Except, that if us pesky liberals figure how to shoot back, it is not going to be the "walk in the park" they assume it was going to be.

It is what happens when one is a chickenshit and their only "combat" experience is via movie watching (or game playing whatever the age group may be). And thus, the latest Beck freak out...

Good luck getting rid of this pesky liberal. I'm as armed and dangerous as those assholes.

Painting me as some liberal pussy is huge mistake.

Man, I can't wait until until I get my copy on the Intertubes. I'll grab my popgun, my MRE's and get out there and start huntin' me down some fresh Beck meat.

What these people don't seem to realize is that military I was in taught me to be loyal to the Constitution of the United States and the legally elected government, no matter who it is. I will disagree with that government, if I feel it is wrong, but I will not take up arms against it.

The enemies of my country are not the authors of this book, but slugs like Beck and O'Rielly, who seek to undermine the Constitution and replace it will a fascist state. Try it boys, and you'll find that a lot of us liberals know how to protect our way of life.

The texts are there in english and other languages.

of us well-armed Libruls with military service out there than they think. Of course we're mostly older guys from before the Army turned so goddamn Republican, but there's an old saying: youth and strength are no match for age and cunning :-).

I have more faith in my country than I did this morning.

Shorter Crazy Person: The arrogant lefties are going to defeat us from within, and they come from France, of all places.

I bet the Crazy Person flunked History, also too.

.

"...they called it the militia movement or the "Patriot" movement. Now they just call it the Glenn Beck Fan Club."

One of the best line I have seen in a while.

This hating the French is so Dumbya Bush era. When are these leftover Shrub groupies going to go away, enough already.

Freedom fries!

It's hard to start a revolution on a full stomach. You have to be hungry. there are different types of hunger in this world. the Glenn Becks and right wing conservatives are hungry for the power that they feel they have lost. They are starving for the control that they have lost and they are getting nastier and nastier .
The other type of hunger is actually starving of nutrition , of seeing your child go to bed hungry. The old woman who has to chose between her pills or her food. The middleaged man who has worked his ass off for 30 yrs and loses everything in 2 yrs thru no fault of his own.
The Becks of this world are hungry for power and influence, but want someone else to do the fighting to regain it.
The starving poor are willing to put their lives on the line to feed their children, their motive is survival .
I will put the motive of basic survival up against the motive of greed and power anytime.
He should be afraid...very afraid.

I wonder how much he would cry , when he tried to put a clip in a thumbcrusher ( M1 , this is a 9lb.8oz , semi-automatic , gas operated , 8 shot , 30 cal. shoulder weapon .) , I hate the thought of war , and am very afraid of war here on our shores , what a nightmare .
My time is short in this world ( physical problems ) it just breaks my heart seeing people suffer ( especially children ) because of money and power ( ego ) what people like gb fail to realize is some of us know how to defend ourselfs .

gawd-willing, should also be very afraid.

So apparently this moron has never heard of The Anarchist Cookbook.

he was just done picking his jaw from the floor after he just came to learn about those matter of things called "books" where people write sentences and ideas... on paper, using this thing called "written word" or so he was told.

When one is as big of a uneducated moron as Beck is... the world is certainly a frightening place.

Ah, the good 'ole AC... more bullshit in fewer pages than anything else not written by a damned fascist.

this coming from the same people who read the Turner Diaries like an instruction manual? Projecting there much Beck?

Besides, weren't the French supposed to be awful at armed conflict, so why is he freaking out about a survival manual in French?

These idiots are grasping at straws, aren't they?

Tyler, if you ever make me laugh so hard again, to the point that I spew my cocktail on my keyboard, I'm going to be pissed.

Its a manual of political and social philosophy.

google tarnac9 and read

I wonder if he cried when he heard about Pailn Resining?

Uhm, aren't the Tea baggers calling for a "revolution"? Hell, wasn't Mr. Beck calling for the secession of Texas? Talk about hypocrisy!

... because Rush just asked for a military coup d'etat a couple of days ago.

Then again, when one suffers from such crippling case of projection as the conservative movement in this country seems to be ailing from... it is no wonder they get caught in contradictory situations regarding their "stories."

Only Glen Beck and make the 'left' both big government and anarchist.

I have no idea what this book actually says and this piece doesn't help much (On purpose perhaps?) BUT it does sound far more anarchist. I could only guess that one of these authors would like "a government so small it could be drown in a bath tub."

Fear not Glen Beck, there will be a government to protect YOUR private property.

BECK: "This is a call to arms for violent revolution...people on the extreme left are calling people to arms."

This from Glenn "they don’t surround us, WE surround THEM" Beck. Apparently, you've got the shits that someone else is stealing YOUR schtick.

BECK: “If you don’t stand up then…you know what? We’re letting down the very people who gave their lives to protect this country. It’s just our turn to serve….you just have to remember that YOU are the protector of liberty. YOU are the guardian of freedom. It’s on YOUR shoulders. It’s not on the military. Damn it, this is YOUR country. And it’s about time we pledged together our LIVES, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”

Let's see: After just a few months of democratic rule, the wingnuts have already begun shooting up the place, while joking about the murder of congressmen and overthrowing the president.

After eight years of the radically fascist agenda Bush shoved down our throats; if wingnuts had to put up with just 1/10 the amount of crap we did, they would be nuking the place.

I look forward to the day you leave this planet. You actually believe what you are saying. Rush, Glenn, Bortz, Levin, Oliely, and Savage, I beg fo the day when all of you are hit by a bus.

Yeah, I think the likes of Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, etc, are spreading their lies to push their agenda, but I don't honestly believe they themselves believe it all. I think that deep down they probably have a lot of contempt for their moron audience. But Beck.... I really do think this guy believes all the nonsense that comes out of his own mouth.

Shoving this kind of shit into the minds of dufus SOB's and are laughing all the way to the bank. the short bus morons are lapping it up and saying " Duh! Him be write bout dat".

BO GRITZ:

Although his current project is not strictly speaking the formation of militias, Bo Gritz's activity closely parallels the militia movement. Gritz, the 1992 Populist Party candidate for president, is a former Green Beret, well-known for conducting SPIKE (Specially Prepared Individuals for Key Events) training throughout the region, preparing participants in weapons and survival techniques.

Gritz is currently creating an armed community on a 200-acre piece of land in Central Idaho known as "Almost Heaven." He purchased the land and is now selling it in lots. A second community called "Shenandoah" is also planned nearby. Gritz plans to live at Almost Heaven with 30 other families in a self-sufficient community which he has said will obey all laws "unless they go against the laws of God and common sense." Through rigorous military training, Gritz plans to prepare his followers to prevent the government from making any attempts to intrude:

"the laws of God and common sense." :-/

All hail the Invisible Committee! (graduates, 1970, Commie Martyrs high school).

If his right-wing audience is so peace-loving, why does he have to explicitly state "you are an idiot if you start shooting people"? He knows its not too far-fetched.

And really, I think you're a lot worse than an "idiot" if you start shooting people.

...is that I can switch off Glenn Beck.

And that's what happened after he uttered that Europe is on the brink of destruction. I'm from Europe, the Netherlands for God's sake! In some of the American eyes the land of Sodom and Gomora. I can tell you our society is as strong as it was ears ago. Sure, we have our share of the economic crisis. But in my "European eyes" America is a much worse global patient in this crisis.

And true Glenn, there are leftwing idiots over here, just like there are rightwing loons. But they live in the margins of our society. They are a minority. But we don't have a free pass to own weapons. Even some knifes are forbidden on the streets! How cool is that!

The problems in France did not have a political idea around them. They were riots born out of frustration and racism. The riots stemmed from the suburbs of the major French cities which are predominant inhabited by people from the former French colonies. They were fed up by the treatment of them by the government.

So why is it so convenient to label these riots leftwing?

(Stop it, I know the answer to this.)

.

You didn't have to read past the first sentence to get his motive here.

While the government warns that right-wing extremists could be domestic terrorists, and The New York Times, says I could incite those crazy conservatives to violence, the extreme left is actively calling for violence!

He KNOWS he CROSSED THE LINE when he had his friend/guest on the other day begging Bin Laden OR anyone willing to do so, to PLEASE attack America with a really really BIG weapon to "save the Republican Party".
So here comes Glen the Train Wreck trying to do damage control and finding the most remote piece of nonsense he can find to try to blame the "far left" "calling for violence".
Personally I think he's on the wrong MEDS. Maybe he should borrow some of Rushbo's oxycontins. Might clear his head of all the cobwebs.

I mean, a few things in it are all well and fine. But, for the most part, they're arguing for a utopia which, quite frankly, is boring AND impossible. Their goal is to end the State and create multiple and fluid communes that resemble the Paris Commune (not a hippy, patchouli-soaked commune here in the States).

Violence is only mentioned as a reaction to the State's violence against the people. The book actually says that violence is a last resort, but that violence will be met with violence and that any person who opposes the State should expect to deal with violence. It was not a call to arms, it was not a call for violent anarchy. It was a call for self-protection and self-preservation in the face of the inevitable overwhelming violence that will be done by State players.

There are many flaws with the book, not the least of which is their reification of money. Sociologically, the book is weak. It's as if the authors have some education but haven't completely digested what they've read yet. I suspect they're young.

It's laudable effort, but sort of unripened fruit. It is in no way Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" and shouldn't be given that much weight. There are a few ideas that are worth discussing, the abolition of the Nation State being one of them, but overall, it is not the threat the Beck perceives it is.

But that almost goes without saying.

...male version of "she-man coultier".

This is why the propaganda network has improved ratings...this quack and the other morons in the back row who continue to make their obscene and lunatic remarks to amuse their brain dead audience.

I was reprimanded on U-tube when I posted that geriatric and brain deads were the only ones who watched the network. Somebody claimed their were "28 and all their friends watched it also who were about similar age". My statement stands.

Hmmmmm... Can you say, "projection," people? I knew you could.

Well what do you expect from these people, they have elevated projection to a high art form.

As for Becks 'common Sense' he has none. Thomas Payne would wipe the floor with this pussy, and then beat him silly for even suggesting a comparison between them.

Glenn Beck gets all worked up about an obscure French book nobody's reading
By David Neiwert Friday Jul 03, 2009 6:00pm

David, love your work, been reading your blog for a long time now, but be careful here. I live in France, and believe you me, this "book" is being widely read.
