I noticed that Roberts misquoted the oath, but did he change the cadence as well? It seems that he set Pres. Obama up.

I am so excited for the President Obama to take office. I hope he lives up to his motto of 'change'. I especially hope that he works to further the green sector. For the first time in years as an antiwar demonstrator I don't feel as though I could disappear at any given time.
It came close to happening here, I believe.
I think that destroying the global economy was the last straw for Bush's wealthier supporters.

Now I feel I can fly my American flag again and be proud of my country.
After 9/11, flags were everywhere on our block ... nearly a dozen households displayed them proudly. Slowly, as the Bush League made a mess of everything, those flags began to come down, even on holidays like July 4th.
And then, because of evangelicals preaching hate, we put up a rainbow flag to support our gay and lesbian neighbors/friends.

Here is my estimation of the incoming Obama Administration:
I believe his will be a difficult Administration. I have no great expectations of him improving the social circumstances of the average American, still, any improvement would be welcome. While I have no expectations of him persecuting Bush and his band of neocons for war crimes, any investigations would be welcome, and some arrests and convictions would be delightful. I have no expectations of him turning the USA economy around and bringing it back to the kind of prosperity witnessed 10 years ago, however, preventing it from completely imploding would be a masterstroke. The odds of Obama rolling back Bush's reinforcements of an imperial presidency approach nil, as it only serves Obama's interests to maintain such a circumstance, however, using such power to help the poor and disenfranchised, the exploited and abused, and assisting in the recovery of an ecology that has been utterly ravaged would be a welcome change of pace.
What I DO expect from the Obama Administration:
They will have to chart a course for a political economy (capitalist industrialism) destined to fail and engineer the first bridges to a transition to the next phase of civilisation, one based in the sustainable recycling of our precious resources - into a world where durability and clarity are appreciated more than fashion and obsolescence, a world where we live within our energetic income instead of pillaging our energetic capital. They will have to end the Empire, and bring about a society arranged for human need, not corporate greed.
If he fails in the above, then it will be left to his successor, for none of these expectations is negotiable. Geology doesn't negotiate. The biosphere doesn't negotiate. The ecology doesn't negotiate.
America has been warned repeatedly, and has repeatedly ignored the warnings. Obama is smart enough to hear the warnings. The question is: does he have the power to heed them? We shall soon see if this is the case. The future of civilisation itself rests on the shoulders of those reading my words, and the actions of the leaders we select. There is no guarantee of success, but failure would be a crime against nature and mankind.
Finally, a new day in America. A desperately needed new chapter. President Obama. Has a really nice ring to it.

OK, the swearing in itself was a jumble, but who´s gonna care with that speech coming directly behind it and with the next four years. No four more years of the same. No 6 months of vacation in the first year. No more stupid beats smart.

The dark cloud has been lifted, the 8-year pall and dumbing down of our country is now behind us, the Bush albatross has been unwrapped from our necks. Yes, this is a brand new day indeed.
I think he was nervous. The beginning of the speech was profound, but he rushed through it and I think it did not have the impact it could have had. By the end he relaxed a bit and the points he made started to sink into the crowd better.
"Pick yourself up and dust yourself off" -- was he quoting Astaire and Rogers in "Swing Time"?
Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are lovely, classy women, instead of the vacuous stare of Laura Bush and the sneering face of Lynne Cheney.

After the slight awkwardness of Roberts continuing the first part of the pledge after Obama started in with his name, Roberts then forgot the word "faithfully". Obama starts, then stops at the part where Roberts screwed up and waits for Roberts to correct himself... like "uh... do I do it the way you said or the way it's supposed to go" but after Roberts stumbles a bit to get the right words out, Obama ultimately decides to say it the way Roberts said it originally.
So it was a little weird.
How long until the nuts start saying he's not "really" president because he didn't do it in accordance with the words in the Constitution?
Can we put in a retroactive clause that if the person doing the swearing in screws up such an important event that they spend the rest of their life in prison?

Someone commented above that the wingnuts would question the legitimacy of Obama's transfer of power since the oath was bungled...I laughed and thought that would make for good comedy when Rush brought it up on his show. Fox swooped in just now and asked if that would be the case, unbelievable. I will give them credit for noting that should it go to the Supreme Court (not gonna happen) Roberts would be obliged to rule in his own favor.

Bush is still hanging around Andrews Air Base. It was funny when Bartlett said he and his colleagues are going to get silent numbers apparently not wanting to listen to Bush phoning them every day.
I thought the speech pointed directly at the failure of the Bush presidency, I wonder if the Shrub was squirming in his seat. That's the last word I have to say unless there are serious moves to indict him.

I never go to FAUX News, but out of curiosity I went there online now. The link on their main page says Obama had to correct Roberts over the oath, but the text of the article says Robers had to coax Obama, when he "blanked."

I just went on to the FOX News web site at 3:35 p.m.EST and one of the headlines was that "Roberts corrects Obama in Oath Bunggle". When I went back to the site five minuites later it was changed to "Obama, Roberts bunggle oath".

I stayed up as much as I could (it was about 4am here in Australia) and was overwhelmed by how great this event was.
The previous night there was a concert of sorts at the Lincoln memorial - which I just saw on TV here - and I was impressed with the diversity of the acts performing.
But I am perplexed - most of the performers are outspoken Democrat supporters eg. Springsteen, Crow, Mellencamp, Beyonce etc. but I always thought Garth Brooks was a paid up member of the Republican Party???
Can someone explain to me why a strong supporter of the Republican party - and possibly voted for that dingbat Palin - would want to perform and honour the person he DIDN'T want to be elected????
