Murray Waas has a fascinating piece in the new Atlantic about Dan Bogden, the onetime U.S. Attorney from Nevada who got shoved out by the Rove Crew:

A Justice Department official told me that the idea of hiring Bogden back is in fact a real possibility, and said that the White House counsel’s office has been quietly vetting his background in anticipation of his possible reappointment—not a difficult task, considering that he has been employed by the government for the majority of his adult life.

If Bogden is reappointed as U.S. attorney, his supervisor will be one of the authors of the Justice Department’s report on the U.S. attorney firings that praised Bogden and severely criticized the Bush administration appointees who fired him. Last Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder reassigned H. Marshall Jarrett, the head of Justice’s Office of Professional Responsibility, to head the executive office of U.S. attorneys, where he will oversee the nation’s 94 U.S. attorneys. By naming Jarrett to his new position, a senior Obama administration official told me, “I think this administration is sending a message that the era of politicization of the Department should be long due over.” The same official told me: “The continued service of Dan Bogden might hopefully send the same message.”

Slowly but surely, the men whose careers were ruined by Rove and the Gang are being restored, at least incrementally. David Iglesias, the fired New Mexico U.S. Attorney, has been working on Guantanamo cases for the Navy's JAG unit.

John McKay, the fired U.S. attorney from Washington state, is now working for Getty Images.

I wonder if Karl Rove will have any comment about this anytime in the near future on Fox News. I suspect he's too busy bashing Obama, however.

Good news. Mike covered part of this story in his roundup today.

This should be something the right can make an "Oh my god!", outrage out of pretty soon. I'm not sure how they'll do it, but you know they will.

I think it's a great move on the justice department's part. This whole stinking mess the bush administration left behind is going to take a long time to untangle in every department.

Isn't one of the chores Obama has is to replace most all U.S. Attorney positions?
You can't blame him for being cautious until most of the old guard is replaced or reassigned.
It must be like tip toeing through a snake pit right now.

But they can suck on it...
I personally don't care what the right says anymore, as it's all just whiny ass negative simpering bullshit.

The right is rudderless, and that delights me to no end.

when we have our own yapping, pesky little dogs jumping all over this in their predictable anti-Obama verbal diarrhea/Tirade!

It's a start.

But Eric Holder made promises, Obama made promises and I'm waiting for the 'Impeach Buybee" movement to pick up steam.

Let's not just wait! How about generating some steam? I went to the Dept. of Justice website because I want to send e-mail to AG Holder to encourage him to impeach Jay Bybee and also speed up the gathering of evidence and the prosecution of Bush et al. for war crimes.

The site says, "E-mails to the Department of Justice, including the Attorney General, may be sent to AskDOJ@usdoj.gov. E-mails will be forwarded to the responsible Department of Justice component for appropriate handling."

So let's add our own energy to the move toward justice.

How many of the 94 USAtty positions has Obama filled so far?

Are there sites tracking this process?

I know the McKay and Wales families through relatives of my girl up in Seattle- John McKay left Getty Images after a short while for a less commercial, more altruistic endeavor. He's a professor from practice at Seattle University.

Tom Wales was the asst. federal prosecutor who was murdered in Seattle, the investigation of which Bush DoJ basically didn't fund nor care much about pursuing. That ticked John off quite a bit and he spoke up forcefulyl about it to main DoJ. That was one of the reasons given for his firing. Kyle Sampson said in testimony that he was too uppity asking for more resources to investigate the Wales murder, the murder of the only USA ever killed in the line of duty. Case is still unsolved.

Q

Where would you prefer to see the Cheney/Gonzales/Bybee/Yoo War Crimes Trial conducted:

Washington DC?
The Hague?
Nuremberg?
Guantanamo?
Crawford, TX?
A "non-disclosed location"?
Other?

The rest are all tainted....

As far as I'm concerned, they can re-hire just about every USA that Bush/Rove fired, and fire all the ones they kept, as the US Attorneys were clearly fired because of their integrity.

I remember when legitimate criticism of W. Bush was easily deflected as merely being Bush-Bashing. It was a way to kill the messenger, plain and simple, distracting people from the actual criticisms of the person's deeds. Now we've come full circle, and the shoe is on the other foot.. It's heartwarming to see Democrats embrace the 'Politics of Spite' as much as the right has.. With any luck, both parties will have shredded their integrity permanently.

or you would have realized that the message isn't what bothers us about the lying weasel of a man named Rove.

But while we are talking about criticism, let's do highlight a few of them:

Teleprompter in chief....
The bow....
We hate Obama tea bagging fest....
He is the anti-Christ
His is a socialist/communist/fascist....
Where was he born?!

Do you think these rise up to the level of legitimate criticism or are they just petty? Yes, they are petty and they will be treated as such.

set that lurke within C&L avoid posts like this that can't be refuted with made up crap as easily as the more complex issues such as the actual prosecution of torturers.

Bringing back the fired Assistant AG's who had a taste of wingnuttia that personally affected them and their families has got to have the wingnuts shitting in their pants. Shows you how strategically shrewd my man (someone else used this, hope its ok if I do too!)the Prez really is. Especially since they were republicans with ethics.
