So much for McCain's outreach to women voters
By David Neiwert Thursday Oct 16, 2008 10:30amHere's what John McCain said last night in his debate with Barack Obama about how he feels about providing an exception on late-term abortions considering the health or life of the mother:
He's health for the mother. You know, that's been stretched by the pro-abortion movement in America to mean almost anything. That's the extreme pro-abortion position, quote, "health."
I'm just a doofy guy, but it sure doesn't seem like smart politics to be dismissing so blithely the very real concerns women have about their health when it comes to reproductive decisions. That's not "extreme pro-abortion," last I checked -- it's "normal human being."
Even that bastion of sensitivity, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, spotted this:
I believe that it was a big mistake by John McCain tonight with regards to abortion rights. If it was his goal to win over the Hillary voter, or younger women in Florida or South East Pennsylvania, then what he said is not going to help him.
You can’t belittle the health exception with regard to abortion. You can’t say the exception is “only her possible death.” The health exception is in Roe V. Wade and characterizing it in a diminutive way is going to lose a lot of pro-choice women.
More insightful, as always, was Rachel Maddow:
I think the line that someone is going to regret, one that will resonate and will hurt McCain the most is when McCain ridiculed the idea that the life of the mother should be a concern in the abortion debate.
Women everywhere will reflect on that – that they’ll be forced by the government to carry to term and give birth. This will be seared on women’s minds: the government is not going to excuse you, short of death, from giving birth. It’s the extreme [anti]-abortion position.
Why exactly did he select Sarah Palin as his running mate? It sure as hell wasn't for the Hillary voters ...

Vote Republican; they'll make your sons bleed and they'll make your daughters breed!
But that stops your daughters from bleeding. Isn't that a good thing?

I guess his reasoning is dead women don't vote.
I'm not a big fan of the audience response dials, but you've gotta love how they're high while Obama talks and just nosedive when McCain mocks womens' health...
Last night was the first time I watched the dial lines. Everytime McCain challenged Obama the white men (I think they had two black people in that group) line went way way up. When Obama would challenge McCain the mostly white mens line would go down below half the scale. Those white men do not want to be challenged by black men. Watching those lines tell a great deal about the psychology of the race.
I saw that too. I couldn't understand at first the stark gender difference with the lines while Obama was speaking, especially when Obama was discussing health care costs, job creation, etc., then it hit me....some of these men hate Obama no matter what.
It was true that the women did not like direct attacks. I actually would rather witness direct attacks than the way many women (not all) are more covert with their attacks. The lines joined when Jobs, and Health care came up and Obama was talking about these issues. Really clear though when Obama challenged McCain. The men (mostly white) did not like this.
Last night when McSame actually said that Palin was a great "role model for women" I almost choked. Close your eyes and imagine what Palin is saying is coming out of a man..she would not be on the stage. Sarah has lowered the bar. Everytime Sarah speaks we all feel smarter.
As Tina Fey says "if Palin is elected I am leaving the planet"
Come on there are plenty of really intelligent women in the Republican party and McCain and his team pick Palin? Someone wanted McCain to lose
I think the McCain campaign thought since they has a war hero POW and a right wing religious female, they could easily beat the African American guy. Sure it was narrow minded on their part, but this campaign has been run so badly that I can easily believe they are that stupid.
The choice of Palin was an insult to every smart strong woman who has worked for what she has achieved. Palin is nothing more than a trophy candidate.
I am so sick of this war hero horse shit. Sorry that dude ended up being tortured...but please killing innocent Vietnamese people is not very heroic
Last night when McSame actually said that Palin was a great "role model for women"
AUGH. What? I suddenly feel the need to shower for an hour and a half to feel clean again.
.
I wonder is McCain is concerned about the "health" of the Nation?

As of late, I have had times when I felt sort of sorry for this elderly man as he tried to show he was alert and spry. But after he made that comment last night with his air quotes, he can burn in hell for all I care.
Women aren't broodmares they are human beings. Who is that old son of a bitch to decide what women's health is all about?
Really? PRO Abortion? What a sleaze bag.
Yeah yeah I'm pro abortion. Every woman should have at least one. Christ. What a fucking idiot. This anti choice shithead-argh. I'm just going to tear myself in two.
The major news around this election has been neglecting the environment lately. Given the state we find ourselves in, I think it is important for us, as consumers, to support 'green business.' For example, I came across a website, http://www.simplestop.net that stops your postal junk mail and benefits the environment. I hope the next President will support the effort.
There's a charge for this service.
"Pro abortion faction" -- This insane Christian terrorist, fawscist, and traitor thinks there is a "pro abortion faction" somewhere. Insane cultist! Stupid fuck! This insane cultist is insane.
ALERT C&L BLOGGERS AND COMMENTERS.
If you have not watched or heard about the Iraqi war protesters outside of the debate last night and how one of them was trampled by a police officer on a horse. Amy Goodman over at Democracy Now has the scoop. The video clip of the protesters is chilling. NOTHING ON THE MSM ABOUT THIS. Just like the MSM did not cover the Iraq War Vets against the War testimonies in Washington this winter.
http://www.democracynow.org/2008/10/16/15_arr...
Amy also has Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney answering Bob Schieffers questions from last night. Very clever
Why is it the only regulations McCain ever supports are about imposing his morality on every other American? Legislating from the the bench is only proper if he chooses the bench? Big Government is bad unless it is tasked to enforcing his morality? There is something very wrong with this man.
Guys: We "trust" you. YOYO.
Gals: We'll "take care" of you.
My other impression was that McCain could only focus on one voter at a time. Last night was Joe the plumber's turn. Women have to wait at the back of the line.
...from Islamic states who declare what women can and cannot do? When a woman loses the fundamental ability to determine what happens to their own body, they lose their freedom. Period.
Well,in the minds of some(enter your word here),not so much. Sad.
to appease the christofascists that he dissed in 2000. It's as simple as that. The man will do anything to get a few votes. Unfortunately this has blown back in his face and tanked his campaign.
Grandpa can't help it....he's just a bad guy. The bitter old man refused to give Obama the benefit of doubt at any point...as if everything Obama says is spoken correctly, but is dead wrong. By constantly disrespecting the colored boy, The nasty old white man gives his starving base the red meat.
www.saysme.tv/wamp is the best anti McCain-Palin ad I have seen. You can also pay to have it run on TV and brand it with your name. Pretty cool.
Those are some powerful ads.
For a guy who doesn't like business regulations he seems to have no problem with regulating a woman's life for her.
I guess if there exists some type of cosmic justice (which I doubt) then John McCain will be afflicted by some medical analogue to an insenstive and dismissive position on the pro-life (not pro-abortion!!!!???) question and be put in a similar position as the women that he is so callously disregarding. Say, a hypothetical scenario in which it is illegal to remove kidney stones. Now, old Johnny would have to experience the joys of "giving birth" to a wonderful set of hardened accretions in conformity with that law. Methinks that might cause him to reflect on his patriarchal and alpha male mean-spiritedness.
... complete with "air quotes," was the nail in McGramps' coffin.
And the dumb fu*k expression on his sarcastic face.
You basically get the message of just what McCain feels about women. This guy ditched his handicapped wife for a richer and younger "that one".
Just wondering how many innocent Vietnamese women McCain wiped out?
My sis had to abort a pregnancy or lose both kidneys which would have caused her own death. She chose to live, and has since given birth to two baby girls.
I've been trying to convince my sister not to vote neocon for years. McCain managed to change her mind with one ignorant sentence.
I sure do hope she wasn't the only one, and good for her.
Good for your sister and blessings on her health and those two children. Too bad McCain was not so concerned about Vietnamese children's lives or the Iraqi childrens lives. The contradictions are terribly bloody
McCain is a "patriot", he was "tortured", we're his "friends"..., he "suspended" his "campaign" to "help" with the bail-out...
Thanks, €Punk -- I needed a good laugh! And I like the way you do your alias.
LOL. more air quotes than Dr. Evil!
The only women left in the McCain camp are those very women who believe themselves to be the pawns of the men of the world. There will be no contemporary women (other than those whose freedom is suppressed by their own self-defeating beliefs) voting for John McCain during this election. That's clear.
See it, Study it, think about it.
What that means is none of this "oh why bother to go out in this nasty freezing weather to vote" Obama's gonna' win it crap.
When my sister in law was about 28 weeks she came very close to dying of toxemia. My brother made the decision (she was sedated after seizure) to go ahead and deliver the child. The baby was tiny and in those days 28 weekers rarely survived. She did and is in her twenties. My sister in law's health issues could have cost her life and thus the baby's life. No one except my brother and his wife should have anything to say abou that. No one. It had to be their decision. If the child had died - would it have been a late term abortion? No, it was the attempt to provide medical care to save a life. Do you want the religious police making those decisions? Well, I'm preaching to the choir here, but of course not!!
As a nurse I cared for mothers who were trying desperately to hold on to pregnancies that could easily cost them their lives. No one outside of those families should have the ability to make such decisions.
However, medical professionals should make sure that all the risks are carefully explained.
The abortion issue is merely a "gotcha" kind of issue. So much anger and so little substance from Republicans says - they don't really care, but want the votes of those who do.
McCain obviously has little respect for women - he seems to see them as two dimensional kinds of people.
The cool relationship he exhibits with his wife is rather weird. As the campaign has said - John McCain is not a bad man - he just doesn't get it. And he doesn't. And it shows.
I imagine that white babies have a much better chance of being adopted than other than white. What does McCain intend to about those whose mothers can't care for them? Who is going to support a woman who is deathly sick throughout her pregnancy and can't make it to work? Is McCain going to support her - pay for her health care and delivery costs and of course give her a place to live during that time. He has absolutely no sense of what happens to people in the "Real World". This reminds me so much of "The Handmaiden's Tale". As for Equal Pay for women - he dismissed that with his suggestion that they could go back 30 years and it would be a Lawyer's dream! I did notice that he didn't claim that Palin knew more about energy than anyone else in the World! Her Pipeline that she raves about may never be built - it certainly hasn't been started. She would be a disaster in the Presidency with Todd as her shadow President as has happened in Alaska with her as Governor. OK - my rant is over!!
In it's entirety which was pressured to be scrubbed, Daily Kos deserves a "thumbs up" for saving this precious piece of truth by the right.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/10/16/1018...
that I have an abortion as soon as possible. This thickening around my middle is making all my good pants too tight. This nausea is causing me to have to eat too many dry crackers and drink too much plain tea. The hormonal rollercoaster is making me crazy. An abortion is simply not for my convenience (as the anti's oftentimes say); as you can see, it's for my health. /snark a la John McCain/
Bastards!! I have this fantasy of inventing some kind of gadget simulating pregnancy that I can run up and attach to some mouthing-off anti-abortion male like McCain. This gadget CANNOT be released or removed for ANY reason for nine months, and even then not without a goodly amount of pain and suffering (during and after). This male will have to go about his daily business wearing the gadget for his allotted nine months. See how they'd like somehing like this. It's what they want to force women to do.
A week before Nicaragua's Nov. 5, 2006, election, lawmakers extended a ban on abortions to include rape victims and women who risk dying in childbirth. The results have been the deaths of approximately 11 women per MONTH due to physicians' refusal to treat women with high risk pregnancies. Physicians are reluctant to treat these women because if a fetus is lost, for whatever reason, they can be charged and spend up to three years in prison. I wonder if John McCain realizes that the "culture of life" is responsible for so many deaths?
Now extrapolate the deaths of 11 women per month in a country the size of Nicaragua and apply the statistic to a country the size of the United States. This is what the christian right wants for America.
The Republicans are the party of death. Death penalty... wars... murder of political opponents... cutting social programs (that don't even cost that much!) so people starve or freeze to death.
It's amazing to me that Catholics who value life over everything (especially in situations like the death penalty) will still vote for the GOP over this one issue. This is Madness!
(cue "this is SpartaAAAAAA")
Here's the main morsel:
Pass this excerpt on to your internet friends today. This is what the RNC really thinks. It's since been scrubbed from their website.
UPDATE: Since it's gone now, Brad Smith's entire post:
Let's be brutally honest. Barack Obama is going to win the presidential election, and probably by a lot. We'll avoid recriminations and "I told you so"s and second guessing here. Let's just face the reality. Obama is trading at 84 on in-trade. Overnight quickie polls show the public overwhelmingly thinks Obama won last night's debate - which probably has less to do with any "objective" scoring and more to do with the fact that folks have simply decided to vote for Obama. Obama has more cash than McCain and independent groups are spending more in his support than they are in favor of McCain. Obama's national lead is in double digits in many polls, and per Real Clear Politics, Obama leads in every - that's EVERY, as in all - battleground states. His leads in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, even Colorado, Virginia, and Florida, are all outside the margin of error.
So Barack Obama is the next president of the United States, and the Democrats will gain seats in the House and the Senate. At this point, it is imperative that the Republicans maintain a filibuster-capable Senate minority. The Democrats now have about a one in three chance of picking up the 60 or more Senate seats they would need to prevent filibusters.
It is not quite right to say that every nickle spent by the Republican National Committee in support of Senator McCain is a waste, because McCain's performance will still help downticket races. But the RNC - and individual donors - need to concentrate remaining resources not on Senator McCain's race for president, but on shoring up endangered Senate Republicans. We need to help Norm Coleman in Minnesota, Elizabeth Dole in North Carolina, Roger Wicker in Mississippi. Even Saxby Chambliss in Georgia and Mitch McConnell in potentially in danger, and Chuck Schumer is pouring money into Kentucky to try to take down the Minority Leader. It may be too late to help John Sununu in New Hampshire, Gordon Smith in Oregon, or Bob Schaeffer in Colorado, but they're all in much better position than the McCain campaign. It's even worth trying to save Ted Stevens in Alaska - we're going to need every vote. 41 Senate seats will be the only meaningful check on Pelosi, Reid, and Obama for the next four years.
I know it's tough for people to give up on the presidential. But there is a point at which you have to seriously look at the evidence, and save what can still be saved. The RNC needs to shift its focus to the Senate, and the McCain campaign should likewise shift its focus to those states where a stronger McCain effort can help some of these endangered Republicans keep their seats.
Womens' health really isn't important to me. As you can tell by my name, I'm a man. As a man, if my woman was disfigured by a tragic car accident, I would just throw her away and get a new one. Just like my hero John McCain.
I hope to hell that, that is a snark.
It makes me sad that the question even gets asked... I don't know how I could've laid the snark on any thicker... I suppose did forget to add the younger and prettier and richer part, which was a mistake. Dear god, yes it was snark.
These days you can never be certain...
but he sure was concerned about the 'health' of a certain former first lady in opening shout-out ...
I noticed those two dots but didn't connect them like you did. Even more rich because Nancy Reagan hates his guts for....dumping the first wife!
The guy will say anything!
McCain's air quote enraged me the second more than the first, but you know it was Obama's response about helping prevent unwanted pregnancies that was a clear winner. He talked about real education, contraception, and making adoption more feasible. If I weren't already in the bag for him that little speech and how heartfelt he was about it would have done it for me. He cares, he gets it, and he showed that to me last night.
I got the impression that McCain doesn't know the difference in downs syndrome and autism. When he spoke of children with autism, he said Palin would certainly know about that.
I was wondering about that last night. Cause he made that point a couple of times about how she knows about autism but he didn't mention the baby. But if one of her other kids was autistic you'd think that it would have come up in a huge way already wouldn't it have?
I think it became clear that McCain doesn't know the difference between autism and the trizomies (Down Syndrome). It was another sign of his sheer and glaring stupidity.
As much as she uses the baby as a stage prop, you would think if one of her children was autistic, she would bank on that too.
I thought the same thing, but it turns out that Palin has a 13 year old nephew who is Autistic. Since it was said completely without explanation, I think a lot of people thought he had confused Down Syndrome and Autism. Perhaps he did, but I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't give others...
Either way, he clearly thinks it's in the Women's Dept.
Thats cos real first choice for VPILF was Jenny McCarthy.
I think he was saying this in an attempt to try to keep his base rather than trying to attact independents and Hillary voters. Members of his base are leaving for reasons related to the economy. If there ever was a one-liner that will snap the attention of the religious right, that was it. I think he's given up on trying to get independents, and just trying to keep the base from leaving the party.
But see, the thing is, every woman pro choice or pro life, should be pissed at the way he was so dismissive as he sarcastically brushed off a subject like the health of a woman.
The question of the moment: Was McCain off his meds last night?
Concensus is: Absolutely.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/16/mcca...
that picking Palin would get me (A Hillary supporter and now a Obama supporter), then he's a raving lunatic! That woman has NOTHING that represents intelligent women in this country.
When I watched Hillary both over the weekend on the stump with Bill and Joe Biden as well as last evening commenting on the debate, I had to laugh out loud - the mere thought of putting Hillary on the same stage with Shallow Sarah is almost unthinkable. Everyone in this country recognizes how pathetically unqualified and ethically challenged Palin is but standing next to Hillary Clinton would be like Jack and the Beanstalk Redux. Can you just imagine what a fool Palin would look like? She hasn't completed a coherent thought yet and is still being kept from the press (for very obvious good reasons).
Absolutely, THE only thing Palin and Hillary have in common is a female chromosome.
Palin looks like a pathetic, ignorant clown with her warpaint on her cheeks next to Hillary....the epitome of intelligence and class. Hillary's a true ROLE MODEL OF ROLE MODELS for all of america's women.
I'm sure Obama has a great spot already warming for Hillary Clinton in his cabinet. Secretary of State would be my guess. Then she'll ascend to the presidency following 8 years of Obama/Biden.
You're missin the big picture. Giving birth is your duty don't you know? Remember that curse our benevolent holy father put on you because of Eve's sin? You got to listen what da Man say. (sarcasim OFF)
do as you please with that info and links on the Fair Report in regard to the spreading of Islamophobia by right wing radicals. Spelled the word Islamophobia wrong
If men bore children, abortion would have been legalized two centuries ago! And I'm certain that Mysogenist McCain would have led the fight.
...abortion would be a fuuking SACRAMENT!
If men had children, we'd live in a matriarchy.
The biggest reason was so that he'd have someone to evoke and legitemize the wacko-racist-paranoiac craziness of the red-meat base...you know, the folks in the Al Jazeera/Strongsville/Bethlehem vids...
Small-town, small-time Sarah ("Parvenu") Palin liberates'em to say anything...
I was glad this question came up because I believe there were still voters out there who mistakenly believed McCain was/is Pro-Choice. He made it abundantly clear that he is not, and that might be more important than whatever his argument was (something like, "Obama is just too eloquent..."). Bringing up Roe v. Wade doesn't hurt Obama at all because clearly people already understood he was Pro-Choice.
if he is elected...he is going to make menopause illegal!
But I thought he was for The Change!!!
"He's health for the mother?" WTFFF???
Hi. I'm John McCain and I'm against all women. Mother's Day is hereby outta here.
John McCain, just put his mother on notice. He doesn't give a shit about that doddering old woman.
What a fucking moraaaaaaaaaaan.
Please pay attention to your spelling, CR! That should be:
What a fucking morooooooooooon.
Get a brain moran!
Go USA!
http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/n/U/m...
The RNC bull$hit continues and continues to tank John McCain. They're evidently harassing people in the swing states who are filing complaints against the RNC for harassment and "do not solicit" lists.
The RNC is a whacko gang of right wing extremists and desperados now. Their Robocalls are totally backfiring. Some of those called have gone right out in early voting states and voted for Obama BECAUSE of these calls.
The RNC is so out of synch with america at this point that it's not funny. Robocalls are a thing of the past. Robocalls today only make people realize that the RNC is actually "the enemy within" and a dispicable gang of thugs.
That's why americans are going to boot every Republican out of office during this cycle and the next. Criminal thugs, liars and harassers.
Victims of today's RNC harassing robocalls have overwhelmingly decided to vote Obama due to this level of harrassment and pressure by the RNC.
Is mcgramps a wild boar?
Wouldn't it be nice for a change that we can finally get rid of this Rovian way of politics. You surely can see McCain doesn't like to do it and has sold his soul to win. He lost his honor when he chose this route.
Where's McCain's lapel flag pin? Must be a commie!
He acted like *I* do sometimes! I require a lot of solitude and am generally uncomfortable among a lot of people, even at a large private party, for example. Last night McCain tried to make jokes, but they all fell flat. He stepped on Obama's lines more than once. Did he even talk over the moderator? He's obviously very uncomfortable and anxious in his mind. He needs therapy! So do I, but I don't have health insurance. McCain has no business representing the US. Obama's a class act all the way.
At one point he even corrected the moderator when Schieffer said climate control and McCain corrected him with climate change.
What you describe is only part of the general diagnosis of health care professionals and behavior specialists who have analyzed McCain's body language and obvious behavior problems from last night's debate.
Some of what we saw could be attributed to the long-term effects of his PTSD dx along with a bit of situational ADD (as a result of weaning of his meds) but the majority of McCain's confusion problems originate in his brain. It's no surprise that his Invasive Melanoma Stage 3B has mets to the brain at this point - no surprise whatsoever due to the prognosis for this disease and the mortality statistics for this incurable and high stage invasive carcinoma. Some experts believe that it has already metastasized to either his brain stem or his brain proper at this point based on the lack of control due to his inability to censor his affect. In other words, there is a "disconnect" between what he is thinking and what he is expressing in the "ability to control" those facial muscles (CNS defect of the brain being compromised). Most of us can control our facial muscles even when we are thinking emotional things simply because of this "censoring ability" between the brain and the musculature. John McCain's is shot. There is no synaptic connection between the brain and the muscles at this point therefore what he thinks, he emotes and expresses without any ability to censor those physical reactions.
I believe we've witnessed the end times of John McCain last evening. Clearly, we've seen something increasingly patholgical occurring in the brain of John McCain.
Remember: His massive facial surgery and removal of lymph nodes occurred in 2000. For Stage 3b Invasive melanoma, the life expectancy is 45%/10 years. John McCain is on Year #8. This is why experts cannot guarantee his life expectancy beyond 2010 - which would be year two of his term.
Well...wadda ya know.
The country may just be waking up.
The free market bites like a bitch...don't it.
I'm a guy... so I'm willing to bet that Palin looks better than the Mitt-ster.
Looks.
She really doesn't bring anything else to the table.
As a dyed in the wool good Christian woman...she best be bringin' dinner to the table.
Does McCain allow abortion in the case of rape or incest? As I understand it, Palin doesn't.
Palin want to run her life, her daughters life and all our lives. We just can't make up our own minds. God forbid if you disagree and she becomes VP. What happen to her ex-brother-in-law will look like a picnic. She is mean spirited. Like Bush she seems to think she is entitled to things and the taxpayers will pay for it. Sara the moose momma doesn't care if you get raped you will care that baby wether you the raper as dad or a stranger. I don't even think McCain or his wife think that way. You betcha if she makes it she will be pushing McCain out of the way. She will be running president's office one way or other. The shadow VP's VP will be first Dud, I mean Dude.
As my wife & I watched the debate McCain's comments about women's health caused my wife to shout "F*ck you, John!" at the TV. I imagine there are a number of intelligent, strong women who feel the same.
Your wife's reaction was a shorter version of my own. I added about twenty adjectives and a noun after his name.
I am one of the women who shouted "F*ck you, McCain"! And threw my
nail file at the TV. I told my husband that McDumbass just lost the election. I was furious and completely insulted (still am)that such garbage came into my living room via McCain's mouth.
Women have been the downfall of Sarah Palin... and we'll be the downfall of the old fart without a heart, McStupid.
Ya I sure caught it. Boy I bet at that moment he lost alot of independent women. I also heard him say that most mainstream agree with the pro-life group. I don't believe that. I don't think they will overturn roe v wade. This issue is a privacy issue.
I have had the unfortunate displeasure of attending a Republican fundraiser. If I had a dollar ( or right now, would prefer a Euro) for every facelift, breast augmentation, and other cosmetic procedure I would be over even McCain's middle class stratum. And that was only for the WIVES of the guys there. The number of vacuous 20-something "girlfriends" was astounding. It's not to say that there weren't some intelligent, capable GOP women there, but they were outnumbered easily by the aformentioned ones. This of course, is not representative of the GOP masses, but in this select group, it was easy to see what an "ideal" female was to them.
I bet Levi Johnston was disappointed when he found out McCain has flip-flopped on choice.
If your daddy does you, and you get pregnant.. you'll have to have your son-brother/daughter-sister
if Mitch McConnell loses his seat...the Congress isn't gonna be half as much fun as it used to be.
Yes, he nuked his bridges to women, such as they were.
Also, after spending an inordinate amount of time and money in Iowa, he again took a shot at ethanol subsidies. So long, Iowa.
And the "we can handle nuclear waste" line? So long, Nevada.
Someone should ask him what he thinks of Mormonism -- maybe we could pick up Utah too.
Forget the mormons they would never vote for a democrat. They are pretty much brainwashed. I don't mean to slight them because they do take care of their own. They are nice people but alot have lived a sheltered life. But they aren't as bad as the extreme right religious groups. Hell I don't know what happened with the catholics. They used to worry about taking care of the poor and the sick. But now the Pope is telling them to get involved in politics. I don't agree with that.

or worse.
I mean...this McCain campaign spend MONTHS courting the so-called PUMAS...the "Hillary vote", and grandpa blows up the whole effort in 30 seconds.
It was an amazing moment on so many levels.
He showed a total deafness to how the remark would be received by women on a moral, political and gender basis.
It really was amazing. I still can't believe he said it.
He thought he was mocking Obama's eloquence but ending up mocking women's health. He thought he was in the Senate speaking off mike about how he's gonna vote, forgetting he was speaking to us gals directly.
New Rule: If you have a penis, you DON'T have an opinion on abortion. Period.
LOL. That is a great point. I have another suggestion. If a man has more than 1 child out of wedlock and can't afford another child than he must get a vasectomy. Boy when I make that suggestion to pro-life guy they get mad. But they sure get it. Now when I see one of these guys I take my two fingers and say snip, snip. They walk away. Haaaaaaaa
I felt so sorry for my husband, last night, who, during the debate had to listen to me yell at the TV every 2 minutes! I have a chick blog, and I've gotten quite a few emails from guys asking what I think about all of this crap from Palin and McCain. I'm disgusted at McCain and embarrassed by Palin.

If a woman wants to have a gall bladder removed, it is her body and not the business of the government.
If a woman wants to have breast enhancement or breast reduction, it is her body and not the business of the government.
If a woman wants to have a tubal ligation to prevent having more children, it is her body and not the business of the government.
One might even argue that if a woman wants to engage in prostitution, it is her body and not the business of the government.
But if a woman wants to have an abortion, she is dealing with the body of another. That body has a different heartbeat than she does. Different brainwaves. Different DNA.
The government has as much duty to protect a two month old fetus from a mother that wants to kill as it does the two year old child whose mother was tired of it.
Sen. Obama not only thinks that killing should be legal, he thinks that people who are against that killing should be made to pay for it.
Do not compare this with the killing in an unpopular war; that involves armed combatants.
Do not compare this with the killing in capital punishment; that involves convicted criminals.
Do not compare this with the killing in hunting; that involves an animal.
Abortion kills helpless, innocent, human children.
Nope, it removes a parasite.
McCain laid out last night, that comment made me truly mad. What a jerk.
To argue that a potential for human life is of greater value than a living human is completely unreasonable. You make no sense.
Please, do NOT get over-confident and think Obama has won. I saw on a Republican blog that they were deliberately "padding" the polls by lying to pollsters so that Obama supporters would think they were way ahead and stay home on voting day.
And there is still the possiblity that the McCain camp could pull a very dirty trick to try to influence votes.
VOTE! Take your friends and family to vote. Go if the weather is bad or you're sick or you have to skip work or school.
We need every single vote!
Insurance companies don't care about women's health. They (including Medicare) pay for Viagra but not for contraception, or for the morning-after pill for date rape or marital rape. Politicians don't care about women's health. If they could only abort ugly girl babies, they'd all be pro-abortion.
I would like to see the whole gang stop talking about pro-choice and start referring to the entire spectrum of issues as reproductive responsibility issues. Men who breed babies by 3-4 women without checking their contraceptive status are partially responsible for this issue, as are barbabes, women who get pregnant to trap a man into marriage, and govt unioncrats in social work who encourage rebreeding via entertainment industry propaganda, so they can keep their jobs and get politicians' relatives hired into the welfare service industry.
Even as a conservative on government spending, I see that it would be more cost-effective to make contraceptives, including morning-after pills, universally available for free, than it is to expand a social services bureaucracy, public housing, police etc to cover the social penalties of irresponsible child-bearing, or to end up like India and China, aborting girl babies as a sacrifice to the real American god, Male Chauvinism.
Late-term abortions for the woman's health should be a matter between the woman and her doctor. One of my best friends is a Downs young man, with the intelligence level of a prepubescent, whose mother made the choice to keep him despite eclampsia and other complications which kept her hospitalized. I'm profoundly grateful for the choice she made, but other women in worse condition may make other choices. Let's face facts, though, abortion is capital punishment for innocent victims, and that's the real choice being made, to punish the victims and let the irresponsible go without penalty.
