Virgil Goode, bad boy: Yet another GOP moral scold exposed

What is known:
• In 2003, the unrated film Eden’s Curve premiered
• The movie is replete with scenes depicting drug use and bi- and homosexual sex
• Eden’s Curve was written and produced by Jerry Meadors
• Jerry Meadors is also the artistic and managing director of the North Theater in Danville, VA
• Linwood Duncan, Virgil Goode’s press secretary, has a speaking role in the film.
• Linwood Duncan also sits on the Board of the North Theater
• Also in 2003, Virgil Goode inserted a $150,000 earmark for the North Theater into the 2004 appropriations bill for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Kuddos to Mark for his tireless undercover efforts. Funny thing many, many Republicans have skeletons in their closets. Many of them are sexual in nature. It's great exposing more of the hypocrisy. It is an old story to raise once again any issues about gays in America. Everyone knows this no longer holds any water, it never did!
What other gay and lesbian movies give Virgil Goode screen credit.

It is nice to know that,at least ideologically, he swings both ways.
I don't really care for the homophobic tone of this post; most especially the line that says, "What other gay and lesbian films has Virgil Goode supported?"
Why do we have to make it sound like supporting "gay and lesbian films" is some sort of moral or ethical violation?
I know he's a Republican and you're trying to make a point about hypocrisy but is it really necessary to throw gays and lesbians under the bus to make a point?
I don't see how this, in any way, throws gays and lesbians under a bus. It is entirely about hypocrisy.
The fact that homosexuality is involved merely illustrates the hypocrisy of yet-another self-loathing homosexual Republican, Virgil Goode. It would be no less hypocritical were he one of those moralistic abstinence-only hetero hypocrite Republicans and he'd used taxpayer money to pay for a friend's straight porn film.

Hey Johnny. Win or lose, I sure as hell hope you guys get a better voter turn out than we did yesterday. Lowest turn out in Canadian history. Why? Cuz none of them were worth voting for. But, we got another minority government, ruled by Bush Junior. Oh great. Glad I didn't vote for the sack of crap.

It squares right up with the phrase "Self-loathing homosexual and hypocrite." In other words, Republican.
I actually think Goode should be lauded for supporting such a film by supporting Linwood Duncan's cinematic aspirations and the company associated with the film. Of course, I also think Goode should start preaching tolerance instead of its opposite.
The word "tolerate" is in itself hurtful and offensive. Gays don't typically use it to describe heteros or anyone for that matter except maybe a co-worker who has bad body odor.
Acceptance or love would be much more appropriate and constructive.
And yet tolerance is all we have the right to expect.
On the Vitter scale of 1-10 diapers, this barely rates a 2. No foot tapping, no wetsuit, no hookers. The GOP has to try harder. Standards people!
I have to say, this is a pretty mild form of hypocrisy even if true. There are much better hammers to whack the GOP with than a moralizing right-winger supporting a movie theater that showed a racy experimental movie.
I'm from Danville, VA.
This clip is great, but the majority of people out there will not know any history on Danville. It's a small, conservative city on the North Carolina border. Financial hardship via lack of industry made Danville, at one point, the highest unemployment city in the united states...close to 15%.
I know the North Theatre, and I know it sees itself as a progressive place. Meadors himself is a homosexual. So it is so weird to see this about Virgil. My mother the other day referred to him as a "good ole boy." I hope Mark Warner (our former governor) overtakes him in the Senate.
Goode likes to appeal to ultra-conservatives. He's running again, trying to make the Democratic canidate seem evil because he was a New York lawyer! Seriously. Last election Goode attacked his opponent for being pro-gay rights.
So to tie Goode to a movie like this could really mess with his base.
Head of the National Republican Party is a Duncan.
Tennessee congressman John J. Duncan is one of the few GOP members to vote against increased funding for the war in Iraq. Duncan is a descendant of the Ghadze family--that's the phonetic spelling from census records, and I suspect it's pronounced "Jihad-ze". This one I know for sure, he's one of my mother's cousins.
Duncans run a bunch of nasty political racketeering and bureaucratic hardball in Southern Appalachia, and I have had an identity theft problem with one of them, and have gotten exactly nowhere with complaints.
This goes back to Appalachian-related former GOP vice, and I do mean vice-chair Carroll Reece, who was caught with a boy in the mid-1960's, whose family married into the Ali/Alley family, given name Mohammed, who is rumored to have financed his investment (oh wow, look at all of our 401k's and IRA's) with cocaine, whose cuz John Reece Roth just got convicted of passing military secrets to the Chinese, after he tried to get an Iranian in his dept to pass even more, like Ollie North.
The Demos have their gays and traitors out in the open where we can keep an eye on them. The GOP keeps theirs in the closet. No more closets!
Some information that might help, if anyone still reads this. Linwood owns the house that Jerry stayed in since he moved to Danville (I think sometime mid-2001). Jerry lived rent-free and Linwood lived right next door. Both are gay, but I'm unaware of how they knew each other. Long before "Eden's Curve" (formerly titled "Shuttered") was in pre-production, Linwood played a role in a play produced and written by Jerry. This was one of the earlier plays introduced at the North Theatre, performed in 2002 (if I remember correctly). Jerry got a lot of help from Linwood, and I'd bet the reason the fax number was used by Jerry was Linwood's fault, giving Jerry too many kickbacks. Linwood no doubt got the $150,000 for North Theatre into Goode's bill, and the North Theatre certainly is glorious, really something else, for the small city of Danville. Unfortunately, Jerry just couldn't get people to come. He'd even get on the front cover of the local paper arguing that it's someone else's fault, the media or gossip about a bunch of homosexuals parading around the theatre, that people don't come. Jerry went back to California earlier this year. The theatre has a temporary director in his place. Goode certainly is a crook and hates homosexuals as much as the next republican. As fun as it might sound to call him gay, it's just not true. I think the idea that he was gay lost him a lot of votes. But I don't think he is responsible for any wrongdoing that might have occured with the theatre, more to blame is Linwood going overboard for Jerry. Plenty of nasty stories out of the Jerry cult, though. Won't mention them here.
