Commenting
By clsiteadmin Tuesday Nov 18, 2008 6:48amI don't like the threaded comments, can I change how they are viewed?
Yes. There is a small icon on the right hand side of the comment control bar:
Simply click that icon and a small popup will open where you can change how the comments display and in what order. Your preferences are stored with your account information and will carry throughout the entire site.
The commenting box doesn't appear in my browser?
Crooks and Liars is designed to run with all newer browsers. Currently supported browsers can be viewed here.
Can I comment anonymously?
No. All users must be registered and logged in to comment on any of our sites.
How can I indent part of the text in my comment?
Simple wrap your text with <blockquote></blockquote>, or highlight the text you want indented and then press the
button on the commenting toolbar to insert the code automatically.
What HTML code am I allowed to put in a comment?
Our current list of allowed HTML tags are:
- <b> - Bold
- <i> - Italic
- <strike> - Strikethrough
- <blockquote> - Blockquote
- <a> - Link
The Spell Checker isn't working?
We use Jacuba, a third party service to supply our spell checking. If the spell checker isn't working then chances are their service is down for maintenance.
I get notification of new comments, then click the link but no new comments appear?
Currently we limited comments to 150 per page. When more than 150 comments appear then they may appear on another page. If you do not see the new comments, check at the bottom of the page for the new page links.
I feel someone posted a comment in violation of Crooks and Liars policy. Can I report it?
Yes. Under each comment is a "Flag comment" link. Simply click this link and give a short description of why you think the comment is in violation and we will investigate it. You may only flag each comment once, and can not flag your own comment.
What if I notice a typo or other problem on the site? Should I leave a comment? We'd be delighted if you'd let us know of any problems on or with the site, but they will be fixed faster by email than by leaving a comment. Typos, etc. can be reported to sitemonitor1@gmail.com.
Why can I edit some of my comments and not others?
Users are allowed to edit their own comments until someone replies to that comment. Once a reply is made then the user no longer has access to edit it.
Why was I told my comment was OT by a site monitor?
OT means "off topic". We ask that you keep all comments on topic of the current post. We post a minimum of one open thread per day. If you wish to discuss something else, either wait for a new open thread, or go to a previous one.
