C&L's Late Nite Music Club: Mitch Mitchell RIP
By John Amato Wednesday Nov 12, 2008 8:00pmI met Mitch in LA a couple of times through some music friends, but that was a long time ago. RIP.
Mitch Mitchell, drummer for the legendary Jimi Hendrix Experience of the 1960s and the group's last surviving member, was found dead in his hotel room early Wednesday. He was 61.

That is a drag.
I play drums and Mitch Mitchell changed the face of rock with his fusion style. Bonzo will be waiting to duel at that Great Gig In The Sky.

Damn, damn, damn. I know it's inevitable, but it's hard watching musical heros pass away. RIP Mitch. Thanks for what you did for all of us while you were here.
Damn, the Experience is gone- First Jimi, then Noel, now Mitch....
Rest in peace, Mitch Mitchell.
Maybe The Jimi Hendrix Experience will be going on tour again in Heaven.
You carved your name into history.
Amazing that he passed away so close to Jimi's final resting place.
Mitch's jam with Lennon, Clapton and Richards was amazing!!!!
the way they ignored Noel Redding's death- When Noel died, he only got a postage stamp sized mention in Rolling Stone, thats it...

The worse part of growing old is loosing all your friends!
We're lucky to have recordings of all of them. They would all love this election.
yeah and forgettig whereyou put your dentures!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ox9c2x8fSU , I made this vid this somer here in Portland, and I found that I had Some footage of the Benson hotel where Mitch died. Vid is to Townes Van zant's version of "dead flower". hope it is appropriate.

How sad. The last of one of the greatest trios of our time. I was fortunate to have seen the JHE 6 times in my life. I have no doubt that hundred of years from now people will still be listening to their music in awe.
fuck this
was always whether Steve Upton (Wishbone Ash) or Mitch was the best rock drummer.
My vote was always with Steve, but since we also covered Fire (I played bass and sang bu vocals), I never really made my case.
RIP Mitch Mitchell!

I guess I'm now making my Steve Upton case because Mitch now can't defend himself my my slandorous slurs ... ;-)
He was one of my earliest drumming influences. He had quick hands and powered through songs. He was one of the first drummers I ever heard that played his drums like a lead instrument. RIP
Yeah, sad news. I always thought of him as a "jazzy Keith Moon".
mmm...can't agree with you there. He's definitely playing from the same school as Keith but jazzy? Not really. Mitchell slams pretty hard.
Yeah, what I mean is that Mitch approched the kit playing "lead drums" like Moon but with the touch that comes from a jazz-trained background. I especially love his snare work.
The drumming in "Manic Depression" is just so fucking ON.
RIP Mitch.
of.all.time.
RIP, Mitch Mitchell-- and thank you for the music!!
Rest In Peace Mitch!
I just saw man a week or two ago at the Tower Theater with a huge list of stars for the Experience Hendrix tour.
I will admit, he seemed "out of it" and even the songs that he "played" on, they did the whole two drummers thing, but only the session guy's mics were on.
An amazing show by the way....got to see Eric Johnson for the first time in my life and all I gotta say is..HOLY SHIT!
I saw Medeski, Martin, and Wood in Seattle on Wednesday night. When they come out for an encore they mentioned Mitch's passing and dedicated a blistering cover of "Crosstown Traffic" to him. Great show, awesome rendition, but a sad day for the music community.
Rest in Peace, Mitch. sigghhhhhh
Thanks for the Experience!
