My good friend Digby finished 5th in a Villager poll on who influences what we discuss.

NationalJournal.com's panel of top political bloggers was asked to join in the survey of National Journal and The Atlantic Wire about which columnists, bloggers and television or radio commentators most helped to shape their opinion or worldview. No one received votes from both the left and right; of the 63 people named in total, only 23 appeared on more than one of the 22 combined ballots.

Related coverage: See how National Journal's panel of 375 Political and Congressional Insiders responded.

LEFT-LEANING Total points

Paul Krugman 23

Rachel Maddow 16

Frank Rich 13

Bill Moyers 11

Digby 9

RIGHT-LEANING Total points

Charles Krauthammer 27

Rush Limbaugh 24

Mark Steyn 18

Jonah Goldberg 11

Eugene Volokh 9

UPDATE: As a side note, I used to be on the National Journal's voting list, but didn't have time to vote on all their polls so I didn't cast a vote or her total would have been higher. She is the best and the brightest writer we have in the liberal blogosphere and even if you do not agree with all her takes you can be sure that she's always thought provoking. Bravo Digby.

Was Glenzilla on the list? No offense to Digby, but Greenwald exerts a hell of a pull from the left. I always feel like Digby is inside baseball for lefties only.

"Oh God, not the Nazis. Again!"

Glenn was indeed on the list, scoring 5 Democratic votes and zero Republican, proving how much they hate him.Personally I find Digby and Greenwald equally brilliant and informative. They deliver the goods with conviction and power.

at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between,

This is truth, to me. "

didn't score higher because he hasn't spare Obama one bit.

The hallmark of a true Jedi journalist/blogger.

I challenge the authors of the survey to conduct a popular version of this puppy.

Rush Limbaugh scored high. That's just nauseating.

Which is equally nauseating.

The party of greed and mean-spirited invective has a deep bench.

To all on the list!

I would have the names listed in inverse order but good for all of them.

Whilst it is great to have Digby on the list, what I find more important is about this is how far right, how far batshit crazy some the right's list is.

I mean, Rush and Jonah Goldberg? Rush is heading towards the end of the spectrum and Jonah is just way off it entirely.

Proof positive that the right has shifted from the centre to far right.

is the amount of prime electoral material these fucktards are providing against the Republiscums for 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016...

Now, if we just could have a real street fighter on the left, there would be no contest whatsoever.

I don't think digby gets enough credit for influencing people to the amount she does. Kudos!

I'm not sure which is more incredible:

That Digby beat out Keith Olberman or Krauthammer beat out the Drugster. :)

Mark Steyn scored higher than Jonah?

Does the crew at Sadly, No! know about this outrage?

but where the hell is Taibbi?

...know who she is because I told them about her. I would be surprised if 1% of Americans have ever heard of her.

Hooray Digby. She was behind a list that is made up of people who get a lot of TV or MSM exposure, or both. Doesn't that makes her No. 1.

All hail Marx (Groucho) and Lennon (John)!

There were only 22 ballots cast, divided among conservative and liberal bloggers selected by the National Journal. There is an implication that conservatives did not vote for liberals or vice versa, but no description of how point totals were derived. The only real fact we have is that you did not vote, and the top point totals that were part of the National Journal release.

I like the description in one of the Atlantic's articles on this "influential opinion maker" bullshit series of their "science" as it applies to bloggers:

"In partnership with PostRank, a company specializing in filtering social media data, the Wire analyzed top commentators on 16 measures of webiness, including mentions on Twitter and performance on popular social media sites like Digg and Delicious."

I can see a blogger muttering now: "I coulda been a contender but
my high Twitter numbers were buried by my lack of Diggs."

"I mean Romney is the most conservative on illegal immigration and I don't think Ronald Reagan could get elected in California today."
Ann "Clipped" Coulter

But note that among "bloggers" a blogger finished fifth behind two NYT columnists and two TV-Radio personalities.

For me, it's about style as much as the message. I think Olberman, especially with his Special Comments
segments, is as good as any commentator and initiator of debate and discussion as anyone. I think Maddow is there because of her less confrontational style, which is bit more reflective than Keith. Her show also follows Olberman, where you've seen and heard the wit and sarcasim and she now provides the thoughful and refined debate.

Jonah fucking Goldberg.
