New GOP Memo entitled Action Alert about the Auto Bail Out makes clear that it's all about "Union Busting"
By John Amato Friday Dec 12, 2008 6:26pmCountdown obtained a new memo that explains the GOP's strategy for blocking a bridge loan to the auto industry:
Countdown has obtained a memo entitled "Action Alert - Auto Bailout," and sent Wednesday at 9:12am, to Senate Republicans. The names of the sender(s) and recipient(s) have been redacted in the copy Countdown obtained.
The Los Angeles Times reported that it was circulated among Senate Republicans. The brief memo outlines internal political strategy on the bailout, including the view that defeating the bailout represents a "first shot against organized labor." Senate Republicans blocked passage of the bailout late Thursday night, over its insistence on an immediate union pay cut.

To: Subject: Action Alert -- Auto BailoutToday at noon, Senators Ensign, Shelby, Coburn and DeMint will hold a press conference in the Senate Radio/TV Gallery. They would appreciate our support through messaging and attending the press conference, if possible. The message they want us to deliver is:
1. This is the democrats first opportunity to payoff organized labor after the election. This is a precursor to card check and other items. Republicans should stand firm and take their first shot against organized labor, instead of taking their first blow from it.
2. This rush to judgment is the same thing that happened with the TARP. Members did not have an opportunity to read or digest the legislation and therefore could not understand the consequences of it. We should not rush to pass this because Detroit says the sky is falling.
The sooner you can have press releases and documents like this in the hands of members and the press, the better. Please contact me if you need additional information. Again, the hardest thing for the democrats to do is get 60 votes. If we can hold the Republicans, we can beat this.
The GOP sent the first shot across the bow of the upcoming Obama administration as they killed the auto rescue plan Thursday night. It never was about trying to help the automakers or the economy, but an effort to crush the working class and punish unions. There are many more people in line to suffer if the Big 3 go out of business, but Shelby and his band of brothers couldn't care less.
"Union Busting" is a high priority for these Conservatives fools that have allowed our country to be run into the ground. Can you name anything good that has come out of the eight years of Bush and Conservative dominance? So what is their solution? To take it out on the blue collars of America.
If anything this memo should be used as a reminder that the Employee Free Choice Act should be one of Obama's "high priorities" just after he takes office. Check out this video that explains a few things about it.

Like my old man told be in 1958, Republican's aren't happy until they have their foot on your throat.
and people still vote for these assholes. what do they think the repugs give a shit about them.
Including 6 out of 7 of my unemplyed in-laws! That inludes one out of-work UAW brother-in-law, who praised the union for "saving his ass during the current economic disaster."
I really don't know what planet these folks are on?
Truer words never spoken. May they burn in hell.
"protectors," they help put the boot on.
These republican are the same people who had no problems with shoveling $700 billion dollars to their buddies on Wall Street in record time, without nary a question, let alone any commitments from the robber barons. Yet, incredibly, when it comes to giving ordinary working stiffs a hand, all of a sudden the rethugs become the guardians of the treasury, and for a mere $14-34 billion. How much more dishonest can these traitors possibly be? They make me sick to my stomach.
Paulson put together a three page request.
like Ronnie Raygun busting the air traffic controllers in the 80's....and not much of a peep from taxpayers then.
".......but an effort to crush the working class and punish unions."
Amen, Amen.....AMEN!!!!!!!
When will the Southern worker realize this?
they can't watch NASCAR because the stock car makers went out of bizness.
Then they will get'er done, or they may get too shitfaced and beat the shit of their sanctified, non-gay marriaged, wives.
Sometimes I think Lincoln should have let the South secede. Who knows where we would be right now if we hadn't had to suffer that dead weight for a century and a half....
Fookin A. I left California to come and live here in GA - I never have seen more ignorant, uniformed, hateful people in all my life. Saxby? Really? I HATE the south, I really do. There are some decent people here, but they are overshadowed by a glut of ignorance. I'm here for 1 more year, then I'm gone. What a bunch of backward ass, hick redneck fucks. Good riddance.
This bailout will not only help out the American auto makers, but the foreign car companies also. The companies that make parts for The Big Three also make parts for Honda, Toyota and other car companies.
It will also help out this hemisphere as we have car plants in Mexico and Ford has one of the biggest assembly plants in Canada.
Where the hell is the Joe the Plumber, when he should be defending his fellow blue collar workers.
I guess since some of us work in the manufacturing industry we actually have to break a sweat and this iritates the stuffed shirts.
of their own party. LET US NOT FORGET when this economy REALLY starts to TANK and we find ourselves with TEN or FIFTEEN or TWENTY PERCENT UNEMPLOYMENT... it will be the REPUBLICAN SENATORS who will have to answer for millions more jobless Americans.
... and JUST WAIT till neither Hannity nor Joe The SCAR will be able to tout their FUEL-EFFICIENT GMC YUKON hybrids! OH THOSE POOR SOULS. Hey, I drive a Toyota Prius... and I LOVED IT when gas was FOUR BUCKS... and I still love it today. But that still doesn't prevent me from understanding how important it is for the Federal government to support the US car industries... during these desparate times...
except maybe GM deserves a little "hard-time" in bankruptcy court PURELY for killing their electric prototype the way they did in California. What a bunch of IDIOT/Savants!
That idiot Neil Boortz was on Larry King tonight. I only saw the last minute or two, but Boortz had the last comment....he said, with a chuckle, that basically, it's time to "bust up the unions."
These greedy repugs stink to high heaven.
A minor point, but notice how the writer of the memo capitalized "Republican", but did not capitalize "democrat". This is one of the many manifestations of fear in the language of the political right. It can also be seen in the inability to call an opponent by their correct name, i.e. referring to Obama as "Nobama". Whether consciously done or not, it is a sign of weakness and fear of your opponent. It's a good tell - you know you're hitting a nerve when you see them do it.
I'd like to believe that the American public would wake up and smell the coffee. It ain't gonna happen. Everywhere I go, everyone I talk to almost can't wait to see the big 3 go down. I have no faith left in America. I don't know what to do. I'm contemplating leaving the country. Maybe Canada. I'm in my late 30s, my wife and I are both educated. My unemployed wife can't find decent work in over 8 months. I strongly feel that the pension I have been building my life, will not be there when we need it. That the people around me will dance with glee when this happens. I need to go where there is at least a modicum of respect for a worker. Is Canada any better? At least they don't have to worry about financial ruin because of being ill between jobs. Am I doomed to live in a country where people love seeing others fail?
Like you, most people I talk to are wishing and hoping that the big 3 fail. Even when I tell them that over 3 million people will lose their jobs, they do not care. I'm honestly speechless. Middle Class Americans want or hope for fellow Middle Class Americans to be without a job. What has our nation come to?
Individualism in the US means getting all you can for yourself and fuck your fellow citizen. In Canada, individualism means looking after your fellow citizen as any one of us may be next. The climate and our Aboriginal brothers have a lot to do with it.
conservative ideology is darksided and demonic.
Luckily I have several job offers from overseas... and I am honestly toying with the idea of spending a few years with the wifey overseas. I have already lived many years in Europe, so I feel the need to experience good food, great night life, and non-brain dead conversations once again. Alas, I love California way too much... so I am still debating.
In any case, my point is that for such a "Christian" country. A lot of Americans sure do behave like absolute pricks. It is as if they revel in other people's misery, like they need other people to be worse than them in order to make themselves feel good. It is disgusting...
Sometimes I wish Ayn Rand's family had had their visa's revoked.
Why aren't people rioting in the streets over this shit? These craven bastards openly admit they want to break up unions-- which made the USA what it is with a stong middle-class, and people sit on their fat asses watching "America's Got Idols Are Smarter Than 5th Graders" or whatever the hell comes on teevee? Three million people are in dager of losing their jobs. That is the entire city of Chicago.
Without unions there would be no safety regulations, no time off, no nothing. If it were France, people would've taken to the streets ages ago. Oh yeah, the wimpy French who have no problems shutting the country down if the workers don't get their way. They have one of the highest productivity levels in Europe and they have a 35 hour work week. What will it take for the American people to rise up against the tyrannical republicans that cause these problems?
At least Gays can't get married, and I can keep my gun and watch football on Sunday and root for a college team (at a college I never attended) and I can celebrate the birth of baby Jesus by spending money at Macy's and download Paris Hilton screwing her boyfriend, and see Jennifer Anniston naked on the cover of GQ. Mike Judge had it right, Idiocracy is here. The tragic thing is those of us who have a modicum of intelligence and critical thinking skills are gonna suffer right along with these dumb fucks who caused all this shit.
a crowd the size of the one that voted obama in gets regular doses of limbaugh hannity GOP-coordinated uncontested repetition. we wouldn't be in this mess if reagan hadn't killed the Fairness Doctrine 20 years ago. the people who got the memo above know that by the time they have anything to do with it limbaugh and hannity will have already done hours on it. without their uncontested repetition the GOP would be a permanent minor minor party.
union busting and wage reduction are regular issues for the talk radio millionaires. the unions (hell, all Americans) ought to picket and boycott the LOCAL talk radio stations and their LOCAL sponsors because as it is real democracy is about impossible and talk of bipartisanship is disingenuous or naive. until then limbaugh and hannity and their copycats will continue to blast attacks and insults at the unions and any American who isn't a millionaire republican, from the biggest soapbox in the country, and no one can get in their face about it because they have call screeners to keep out all but paid callers (maybe in the basement of the heritage foundation) and the most ignorant asskissers on the planet.
The phrase 'organized labor' says it all. It's yet another thing the rich, white, privileged types in the GOP fear: the peons, the serfs, their 'lessers' having anything akin to power, any ability to influence their decisions.
They fear organized labor because what they want is the opposite - isolated groups of employees without a national organization or laws to protect them. The free market is supposed to be the regulating force, right? Let people compete for jobs, that's fair, isn't it?
Except we know what happened to the free market when it came a-cropper with corporate greed. The market LOST, and lost big. And we're the ones who are paying (and will be paying for generations) the price of letting our 'betters' take care of things.
We're also seeing how the GOP wants to play things. Keep their base happy, their big-ticket corporate donors. Do nothing to help solve the problems, then ride in on their white steeds when, for some 'unknown reason,' the Obama Administration can't budge the economy.
AMERICA WORKS BECAUSE WE DO.
(I am a member of IBEW Local 45.)
in the queue - waiting for handouts from the lobbyists.
...until they got the $850 billion they wanted. Then silence...
How I wish there was a hell, because there must be a ring reserved for them.
when you add in not only the 700 BILLION of the official 'bail-out' alongside the other things the Fed et al have contributed OFF THE FUCKING BOOKS.
Ronald Raygun told Americans that the new economy would be a service economy. Every stupid body cheered. Yea! Yea! Yea! Not stopping to think that he was condemning them to work for McDonald wages. NBC and Tom Brokaw were among Reagans chief supporters. I nearly vomited every time I heard Brokaw fawn over that jerk. Republicans have always been corporatists. Republicans want you uneducated, poor, and dumb. That way they can do whatever they want. It is pretty pathetic of Repugs to put party ideology ahead of the nation's well being. Damn I hate those suckers.
According to David Frum, that's the GOP Base: ill-educated, poor, anti-intellectual white people.
The NEW GOP: Trailer-trash Central...
I've run into so many union members who are Republican- Why do they vote against their own interests? Republican union members are like the gay log Cabin Republicans- they must have a lot of self hatred.
Then again, that would explain allot and is stereotypically on target :-P
addendum: The only union the Republicans support is > "American Bible Union" :-/
Here > http://bibles.wikidot.com/abufirst
part of the problem with Unions (from a GOP perspective) is that they actually educate their members in ballot and candidate issues.
I am sure there are GOP union voters out there, I just never met one. Maybe Cali is an exception?
I'd bet allot of "Buster Brown" Peeps down south go red. I've heard they have an extremely large air hub in KY. They got their principals to stand up to, but who don't like money? Though it has been asked,
Can Christians ask their boss for a raise? No. --It is unChristian to ask for a raise: "And [John the Baptist] said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you. And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? and he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages." (Luke 3:13-14) Modern Christians who love their families know better than this: it is not responsible to deny yourself a fair market wage, especially if you have children to support. Real family values transcend the bible. [John the Baptist was "preparing the way" for Jesus when he supposedly spoke these words.] Maybe that explains it?
I was just scanning the comments when I caught yours.
I have a friend who is union and is staunch repub.
For them(him and his wife) it's all about taxes.
Money ,money,money.
Everything else is secondary. And I mean everything.
Super nice folks. Just kinda stinjee. I've been working on them for several years now. Got them to vote for Obama this time.
It just made sense compared to McCain.
His wife actually believed Hillary Clinton was a murderer.
We had a long talk about that one.
The biggest farce ever perpetrated on the American voter.
Those southern republicans would have a problem if we ended cotton farm subsidies. Subsidize is just another word for bailout.
You can be sure the Democrats sent no memos, had no plan for media coverage, no talking points or any strategy other than the silent, wide-eyed Pelosi look of a stunned bovine.
Years ago when International Harvester left Fort Wayne I was in attendance at a City Council meeting where they were discussing possible incentives to keep IH in town. A Harvester employee was there to state his case why he really needed that job to support his family. However, when he mentioned his boat payments, the rest of the audience snickered. Obviously they thought any job where you could afford a nice boat paid too much. I seriously doubt any of the snickerers would turn down a job that afforded them a nice lifestyle. Yeah, Harvester paid good. Because of the UAW they were fairly compensated for their hard labor. Most of those auto manufacturing jobs aren't easy. They take a toll on the body and the mind. I see nothing wrong with demanding a good wage.
Oh, Harvester left town and the ripple effect was fairly catastrophic.
the American worker into a slave. When the Unions are gone there will be nothing to stop work place abuse, low wages, and intolerable working conditions. The Republicans are the party of the wealthy, they are still fighting the Civil War and their motto is "The South will rise again". It is time for you, all of you, to become active in pushing back against these modern day traitors and tyrants. Email these bastards and let them know how you feel and that you will not tolerate these subversive tactics from an elected official of the United States. GET TOUGH OR GET STEPPED ON!
The GOP see themselves as the slaveholders in a new slave economy. To them, American workers have no rights. The ultra rich have always been anti-worker, it's what gave rise to the unions in the first place. But the current assault began with Reagan and rages on.
It isn't just about the GOP at war with the average worker. It is governments globally doing it. It's a massive wealth transfer from the poor and midclass to the wealthy. It doesn't matter what country you live in, or what political affiliation you have. We don't have Republicans in Canada. Closest we have are our "to the left of Dems" Conservative Party, and they are all for this scam too. So are the Liberals and NDP, both pretend parties of the left. Breaking everything down to party vs. party finger pointing is exactly what they want. It distracts and while you are busy blaming each other, the rich make off with the windfall.
Neal Boortz:
Why would anyone want to listen or watch to this balding, over the hill,draft-dodging,chickenhawk,is beyond comprehension!
This loud-mouth,gas-bag phoney,a card-carrying,sychophanic Bush suck-up,arse licker who lied about graduating from college! Boortz went as far in carrying out his college graduate charade that had lasted from '67 until '05! That's when John Sugg outed him as a gold-plated liar in Aug of '05. Go to johnsugg.com then to his Archives Page for the years of '05-'06. Boortz went as far as buying a Class of 1967 in late May '67, a week or so from either flunking or dropping out of college for good as a Junior!
He lied to the Selecticve Service about his real status as a student from Dec '65 to Feb of '68! Even lying to the Selective Service after he had dropped out forever or at least till right now!
So what do we have here that's a common feature of Boortz, Hannity and Limbaugh? They're only high-school graduates, never served in the military and have a audience of Dumb-Phucks knuckle-dragging morons!
They love war as long as someone else takes their place!
of ass was usually a stump-broke heifer?
Gotta be tough to then later literally eat your lover...Probably accounts for why so many of 'em--Shelby, Sessions, Lott, McConnell, Bunning, and the rest--are so batshit crazy...
--They're only high-school graduates, never served in the military and have a audience of Dumb-Phucks knuckle-dragging morons!--they are almost identical with and indistinguishable from their 'core' audiences: the troglodytic, prognathous-jawed, mono-browed, knuckle-dragging, trailer-trash cretins with only one set of grandparents...
Look the Senate bailout bill included COLA which gives a raise in salary to Judges. Now what does that have to do with the Workers of the Auto Industry nothing. It's politics as usual and the GOP will play this until Bush steps in to save the day. Look Bush needs a legacy and this could be it. Everyone knows Paulson has given out 350 billion to friends and the Saudis. Now the GOP is setting up a fake show using people like Vitter who is so bad it's scary. Yes Vitter used taxpayers money for prostitutes but now refuses to use taxpayers money for the Auto Workers who paid the taxes. This is all grand standing by the GOP and nothing else. We heard about the Chief of the Nasdaq who robbed 50 billion look for Greenspan to get caught next. Our Country is enbedded with old Crooks as G-Rod learned from his Father-in-Law. It will take the American people to get these criminals out not Obama/Biden. We voted for change now it's time to finish the job in our own back yards.
