And Tracy Kerlee is supposed to be a Christian.

Tracy: I can't imagine a President of the United States being named President Obama. I really have a problem with that and I'm not the only one.
Q: Because that means what to you?

Tracy: His background. A mother that was atheist. Huh, that really gets to me. A father that was a Muslim. That should get to everyone.

The term values is so misused. Tracy, and she has every right to feel the way she does, should not be represented as being a values voter in my opinion. I'd call it something else. Being an atheist is a value just as much as an evangelical or what ever religion you practice.

We haven't been getting NOW or Bill Moyers in the Dallas Area for at least two weeks now.

Dispositive evidence that necessary reforms to our education system have yet to be made.

Especially Moe's comment when watching a soap opera in the Charlestown (Johnstown, Pa) Bar: "That c*#t is no good."

Right Wingers Disparage Obama's Endorsement by … GOD!

http://satiricalpolitical.com/?p=4157

And ain't NO rill Murkin could vote for nobody named Hussein.

O, for lack of an apostrophe, we'd have the Tracies of the world...

The Story of O.

This little video might change the "right-wing wacko Tracey Kerlee's of the country's" minds!!!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EADUQWKoVek

Odd that open bigotry and ignorance are still considered American values. Colin Powell hit it on the head when he said the anti-Muslim sentiment that is cheered by many in the GOP and tolerated in the media are fundamentally anti-American.

I can't trust Jesus. I've read about him and he's not, he's not, he's... uh... he's an Arab. No?

True dat, but he was conceived out of wedlock in Egypt, which is technically, um...African. Nevermind.

LOL!!!

AMEN!!!!

I was thinking that same thing when she said that and watching Religilous. They are so anti Arab - Middle Eastern, however the book that they cling to was written and is based on people who lived there.

WTF?!

that give Christians a bad name....

You don't need mere peons like Tracie to make Xians look "bad." Thr rot starts right at the top...

Yeah, god forbid we showcase most Christians for what they really are!

Please end the religious bigotry!

If it's not the right wing Christians slamming all Muslims, it's the left wing slamming all Christians.

Not all liberals are athiests, and not all Christains are fascists.
My church is very progressive, inclusive, and advocates peace and diversity- and I am a Christian-and a liberal.

Let's look at your statement.

Phrase 1: Not all liberals are atheists.
Very true.

Phrase 2: Not all Christians are fascists.
Again, true.

Put together, not so good. You imply that for a liberal, being an atheist is comparable to a Christian being a fascist. I don't think you meant it, but its along the same lines as McCains response to "He's an Arab" comment with: "No, no, no, I know Mr Obama and he's a fine, decent man."

A clarification is in order.

Thank you.

That is a very annoying analysis. This person was simply stating facts and you connect the dots unnecessarily.

The comparison was totally valid. Why is being an Atheist a bad thing? Because if it's not, then there is no bigotry implied in 'All Liberals are Atheists' and the entire statement is rendered moot.

"Not all liberals are athiests, and not all Christains are fascists."

How about,

Not all liberals are Jews, and not all Christians are fascists.
Not all southerners are Republicans, and not all Germans are Nazis.

The juxtaposition of the statements does imply their relatedness.

Yeah, McCain said that Obama wasn't an Arab he was a family man. Clearly Arabs can't be family men? This isn't generally said, but it's certainly implied.

I know a lot of atheists and many of them are proudly liberal. And the commenter clearly puts calling somebody an atheist is on par with calling them a fascist.

Also, oddly enough the woman in the video is right about many of the statements of facts she makes but Barack Obama's father was an atheist as well as his mother. He was nominally a Muslim as a child but had long since lost his faith before coming to America.

Yeah, now it turns out them right-wing Christians have been tolerant of Islam all along. Right? That is why they are blowing a gasket with the mere assumption that Obama *may* be a "secret" muslim.

So spare me the victimization, this is supposedly to be a "christian nation" yet we are in a war that has killed hundreds of thousand of innocent, to this day 40+ million Americans don't even have health insurance, a shitload of kids are born to poverty, we spend more than the rest of the nations combined in arms/military. So yeah, I am sure there are a few good Christians, but for having a majority of Christians the fact that all those things are true in our country it lends credibility that "most Christians do indeed suck."

If some of these easily offended Christians spent more effort into being christ-like than to play the victim we would be in a much better shape.

Maybe Obama is a christian Muslim like palin?

Does the whole right wing slam all Muslims? Does the whole left slam all Chrstians?

I think most people here are against bigotry, hypocrisy and stupidity.

>Does the whole right wing slam all Muslims? Does the whole left slam all Chrstians?
>I think most people here are against bigotry, hypocrisy and stupidity.

The whole thinking world rejects religion. It's a bronze age relic. Faith is a concept that the world can do with out. Reason, demonstration and experiment are the only way to truth.

Please spare me your religious convictions, they might have something to do with how you deal (or not) with reality but your beliefs are not anything but annoying and mentally unstable to me. All Christians are liars, no exceptions!

Some one has spared you an upbringing of openmindedness, that's clear. All Christians aren't liars, you idiot.

I wonder if somebody punched her in the face.

Contrast that lady with this one.

I'm a staunch atheist, but I do know many Christians voting for Obama.

Jesus advocated peace, compassion, empathy, and the need to help others.

I see Obama promotong these virtues-

sadly the Republicans stand for 'ideals' that are very 'anti-Jesus'- they oppose helping the poor, they want war, theey advocate greed and self interest, and they advocate hate and division.

Ironic that the Republicans and Christian fundamentalists, in their rabid quest to try to be more "American," are slowly beginning to resemble the Taliban; they're becoming the very monsters they hate.

If anybody asks, I'm a skeptical Catholic.

The Obama campaign should seek this Evangelical lady out. I have never seen a citizen on the street interview that made such sense. And I'm a flaming atheist too.

How great would it be for them to release a campaign video where they went to this lady's(?) house and spoke to her about the issues. That would totally deflate her talking points, and make Obama look really good. He could spin it as "See? I'm willing to sit down and talk to people who hate me. I can work across the aisle and can negotiate with antagonistic countries."

She's expressing the same sentiments that I have received from every Christian I have ever met. You can deny it all you want, but if you really want to find out what it's like, just tell the next couple Christians you meet that you're an atheist.

bbk (not verified):

I do love living in San Francisco. Theists and atheists get along just fine here, where we understand the true values upon which America was founded.

I have no problem telling some Christian friends that I'm an atheist, and we can even discuss the subject at length without killing one another. One of my best friends is as staunch an atheist as I am, yet his fiancee is Christian.

But don't think I underestimate the population of wackos out there. My partner attends a school full of nuts like this lady, and my father, also an atheist, lives in the south. I've lived all over this country, and among religious bigotry of many stripes. I know full well that they are legion and they are dangerous.

I don't advertise my atheism because it's my business, but when directly asked about my religion, I do tell. And boy, if looks could kill, these "christians" would have knocked me off long ago. The majority of my friends consider themselves one religion or another - they aren't fundamentalists - and don't give a damn that I'm an atheist. They are progressive liberals, Christians (of different kinds), Jews (of different kinds), Muslims (of different kinds), and are voting Obama because they are sensible, informed people.

"cult-free" since birth.

that's great - I can't claim the same because of how I was raised...good for you

Hey Tracy,

LOVE what you've done with your trailer.

Christians give Jesus a bad name.

To be fair, I'd say Christianity gave itself a bad name a while back. Luckily, one-calorie Christianity exists in most places today.

I hope she hasn't reproduced...what a stupid bitch.
Meanwhile...media banned from polls...

Boy has she been brainwashed. She's one of those many humans that has a closed mind and can't move forward into the 21st century. Why doesn't she just dig a hole, jump in and never come out.

Brainwashing requires a brain. Hell that tripe she is spewing is just plain stuck in there, probably from childhood. Couldn't think her into anything new. How pathetic and sad that this woman does not have enough brainwaves to come across a different idea and actually consider it. Either her I.Q. is low (apologize for my elitism) or she wasn't ever allowed to think for herself (or wanted to).

...but I'll bet if her husband doesn't vote for McCain (the real "Christian" running for president??!! right) I'll bet he won't be gettin' any for quite a while. Though he probably has to use a bag to screw her now anyway.....

Nope, no bag. Just the hole in the sheet for their once-a-child-God-approved union. Just lie back and think of the Queen, Honey.

LOL!!

Sure she has values - fucked up values, but values nonetheless.

So President Obama sounds offensive and scary, but eight years of "Bush and Dick" were okay?

PEACE

Dubya is religious, so not matter what he does it is fine. I know some religious people here in Boston and they really believe that doing something in the name of god is fine, if you are a true Christian. I don't think Christianity teaches this, but they believe it to be so. Which god do they worship?

Probably Mammon.

The same one that talks to Pat Robertson.

Maybe if he spelt it O'bama, they'd think he was Irish and rush out to vote for him?

sad people like this are still breathing. waste of oxygen

Holy shit. What an ignorant rube. "Everybody" should be concerned about his faith???

Might as well say it woman "he's black, I can't handle it". Notice the way she says "President Obama"

Man these people's heads are going to explode when Obama wins by a LANDSLIDE!

I suspect we'll start to see large gatherings of them at regional hate centers.

Like Colorado Springs, home of the mega churches.

Colorado Springs: Home of James Dobson who worships money and power.

I'm all for them congregating and assembling at regional hate centers. It'll just make it that much easier to identify them and round them for a quick trip to Gitmo so they can see how effectively their tax dollars have been put to use.

That would be one of those rare occasions where trigger-happy riot cops backed up with water cannons and live ammo would be a most welcome sight :)

The Constituion specifies that there is no religious test for office, but these people, along with their revisionist history, believe that the Founding Fathers somehow intended that America be a Christian nation, (their unique form of Christianity, I'm sure).

Jefferson was a Deist, or what is commonly known as a Uniterian. Uniterians do not believe in the Trinity and are not, therefore, Christians.

They are. They're just not trinitarians. Early schools of the church were against this feature which smacked of them of paganism. They wanted to remain monotheists. After the first Council of Nicea 325 C.E. they were eventually driven off where some ended up in Transylvania where the Unitarian church comes from.

Now, however, their definition is so broad, some of them actually allow Witches and Pagans to use their facilities

Maybe because we wash our hands off afterwards.

I was lucky to be raised by some pretty "liberal-intellectual" folk, and as a youngster, from the mid-60's until about '75, I attended a number of Unitarian congregations (we moved a lot). And though Unitarianism certainly must have some theistic foundation- which I never learned because I never cared to- the really nifty thing about the church is that in their day-to-day operations the only real 'rule' is "come in peace and be respectful of others". You can believe pretty much whatever you want, and you'll be welcomed.

of people of different philsospihes and ehtnicities. Athiests even attend the sermons for the philosophical perspective. We have a large gay population, and you don't hear anyone here calling for violence.
I volunteer as an ESL tutor, and there is such a poitive vibe.
My oldest brother, who lives in the deep south, is Lutheran, and is convinced I'm doomed for hell, as in his misgguided words I attend 'that faggot church'.

how shallow are the beliefs of many in the US today. It's as though god gave us brains but not the will power to use them.

<>

God shorted Tracy on brains, but he made up with it in chins.

BAAA-ZING!

Well, it's the Devil who makes her eat all those chips and cookies....!

Instead of "values voters", can we just label them "Touched by the Lord" instead?

I've always preferred "Tetched By the Lord" myself.

... that this fine example of upstanding nutcase has had her tubes tied.

She has one of those.. "Baby Factory" bodies..

So lets pray hard.

---

Yeah he does..

It is called DIVORCE...

And Bat Shit crazy is good grounds.... I mean not even Jesus would expect anyone to sleep with ... "THAT ONE"

I'm glad Obama doesn't share her values. She has no clue what's in the Bible. She has a horrible relationship and she's obviously undereducated. This is why we have serious difficulties that are not being solved under Bush. Her and people like her would rather this country rot right underneath her than take rational action.

I watched this segment this weekend and cringed all the way through. Besides the not-so-veiled racist comments, her comment that it's okay to vote against her family's best economic intersts b/c "The Lord will provide," really pissed me off. I'm a Christian, but I'm not stupid enough to think that praying will put food on the table. This lady is a moron.

...or not.

Heck if she or her children die of starvation, there's always that promise of pie in the sky when they die.
Hmmm, Hold on a second, sounds like heaven is some kind of Socialist Utopia. Does that mean that God's not a Republican?

Jesus was definitely Communist.

Lemme think...

1. Treats all people with equality, including tax collectors and thieves.
2. Promoted free health care (Lazarus, etc.)
3. Promoted equals shares in food (The bread and fish)
4. Has a Castro-style beard
5. Comes from a working class (carpenter)

Yup, looks like Jesus was a Communist, at least in the Marxist sense.

a socialist utopian Heaven for her becasue she's a Christian Repug. But, if she was a Muslim, would god be providing her with 72 Studs!!??

No, Crazy Tracy. The lord will not provide. We taxpayers will provide. If I could get out of supporting stupid, I would. You, however, appear to be months away from starving to death.

What happened to "The Lord helps those who help themselves"?

QUOTE: "What happened to 'The Lord helps those who help themselves'?"

The quote is "God helps those who help themselves" and it's neither in the Bible nor is it a Christian belief.

The quote was from Ben Franklin, a deist. And he said it probably as a cynical quip to underscore how ineffective prayer is.

Sitting on your butt, or worse, being counterproductive, and then saying "God will provide" sure sounds like putting God to the test.

yeh. I wonder if the checkout lady at the grocery section of WalMart is willing to accept her word for that.

I was raised Evangelical United Brethren/Methodist in northern Ohio in the 50's/60's. My church taught me the true values of J.C., not the hate-filled, speaking in tongues horseshit "values" of this wing-nut in the video.

In my opinion, a "good" Christian simply lives his/her life WITHOUT judging others. It's fine to witness to others (as I'm doing now) as to one's personal faith, to invite others to simply read The New Testament and the words of J.C. and to even invite them to go to church with you. But for me, when the right-wing wacko fundamentalists try to FORCE their chosen way of life on others, that's where Christians like me draw the line.

It's not for me, as a Christian, to tell another woman not to use birth control pills because they kill zygotes. It's not for me to tell another woman what she can do with her body on ANY level. It's not for me, as a Christian, to tell anyone not to ingest mind altering substances. It's not for me, as a Christian, to tell others when to have sex or with whom they may have sex.

As to the whole homosexual issue, I must say, I've often wondered about Jesus' sexual orientation. He never married (although I realize this has been historically debated), he hung out with a bunch of other guys all the time and he loved to shop (kidding).

I try to live my life by remembering the last commandment of Jesus at The Last Supper: "The most important commandment of all, more important than any of the others is to love one another as I have loved you."

I do not believe Jesus would condone what we did to the American Indians or African Americans. I do not believe Jesus would condone international lying and cheating and stealing and waging wars of aggression over resources by murdering innocent women and children ("Shock and Awe") and trying to force our way of life onto others.

It is for all that I've just said that I abhor the so-called "religion" Sarah Palin professes to follow. Her actions speak far louder than her words. Had she been a good mother I doubt her daughter would have been out running around having unprotected sex. Sarah Palin potentially set her daughter up to get the worst of all STD's...HIV because of her "head in the sand" approach to human sexuality. I can understand Palin and other people's reasons for hunting animals for food, especially when they live in places where meat may mean their only means of survival. But knowing that she condones the heartless and cruel hunting of wolves from helicopters speaks volumes to me about this woman's heart and her lack of understanding that we are to be stewards for all life on Earth to the best of our ability. Her mindless "drill, Baby, drill" mentality and lack of intellectual curiosity regarding global warming and evolution are extremely troubling.

Please watch this short video about Sarah Palin and Rev. "Witch Hunter" Muthee that is a spoof about Palin becoming POTUS. Palin, Rev. Muthee and all the others who profess hate and control over others do not represent the other side of Christianity which is a belief in love, tolerance, fellowship and community.

Thanks for watching the video all the way to the end. (I happen to know the people who made it):

http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/065d73b1dc

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

I was raised Catholic, still consider myself Catholic, but have some very sharp political disagreements with the Catholic Church right now. You have just articulated my view of Christianity and the way I choose to practice it.

ok? where are those christians? the real one's. the one's
"ye all will judge by there fruits".
its sad to see this going on north off the border im glad we did not
have this stuff going on here.i hope the real "one's will stand up.

Abbybwood,

I just wanted to thank you do much for your post, it's reassuring to be reminded that tolerance is the key to survival of our species. Your words moved me, and I wish that everyone in the country would be able to read and understand what you've written. I've never left a comment on C&L before, but your post resonated with me and inspired me to comment. Thanks again!

"It's not for me, as a Christian, to tell another woman not to use birth control pills because they kill zygotes. It's not for me to tell another woman what she can do with her body on ANY level. That was about the only point I disagreed on here. Hell, if it were my brother, sister, or any other loved one I knew, I know I'd do everything in my power to keep them getting hooked on drugs. I've seen it ruin the lives of too many good people near my family for me to just stand by.

That aside, you read my mind. I doubt Jesus would have endorsed killing in his name - didn't he keep one of his own Apostles from drawing his sword when he was being arrested by the Romans?

i appreciate your views on tolerance, but had to say this, 'cos it's misinformation that needs to be corrected:

birth control pills DO NOT kill zygotes. birth control stops the zygote from ever existing. that misinformation is so often used against women trying to get birth control from a judgmental pharmacist. it was the misinformation behind the attempt to re-define birth control as an abortificant.
again:

birth control STOPS a zygote from ever existing. birth control DOES NOT kill zygotes.

Was it me or did she seem to understand the 'weakness' or ridiculousness of her answers AND not caring at all.

I'm not sure what is worse, being a racist and standing by those views, or lying and using 'God' as an excuse for your racism.

The hardcore evangelicals, from the original confederate states, will vote for McCain, as they see the world much as this woman does. Mainstream Christians, who are needed by the Christian Right, are turning toward Obama.

This is not Christianity. I've heard it theorized that this politicized version of faith is nothing more than an offshoot of the defunct Klan. It makes a lot of sense if you consider that the Klan felt their racism was also faithbased and justified by misapplied scriptures.

Her facial ticks really bothered me. Creeped me out, like she has some mental issues.

I hated the comment about how Obama's church is not the christianity found in the Bible. Neither is YOURS, you white trash cow. If it was, you'd be going to a Jewish temple on Friday at sundown,... like Jesus did.

Down here in Savannah, there are bumper stickers that simply read "SARAH!". You know that is just one thing, knee jerk pro lifers. Imagine any other vice-president with their own sticker? Like "SPIRO!"

God save us from these damned christians.

Creeped me out, like she has some mental issues.

Well, THAT'S pretty obvious. :)

The hardcore evangelicals, from the original confederate states, will vote for McCain, as they see the world much as this woman does./blockquote>
This is extremely upsetting to me. This woman and many others I know are not voting for their beliefs of who they think will do the best for our country. They do not research the candidates and what their basic platforms are ... they are voting how their pastor is telling them to vote if "They love God". They are programmed!

Ugh, so that is the ignorant face of the Republican base. Her husband must of have done something really, really bad in a former life.

This is what happened to Hitler...

Reincarnated into the creme de la creme of the Master Race!

She can't even think for herself! What does it matter which god or softcan your parents worshiped!
She is a prime example of the Christian Right's Brainwashing! Shucks she would have fit right in the Manson family back in the late 60's!
I actually feel sorry for her husband (wonder if he's pus*y-whipped) and any kids she has spawned!

for her kids.

I feel bad when I think of the world populated with rejects like this too.

Watch Jesus Camp - I'm sure she is home schooling them and raising them to be good little Christian Soldiers.

Thump, thump, thump (me banging my forehead repeatedly against the wall. Again.)

I encountered the same attitude in my little Lutheren Church in Germany when I was very young. When I was 18 I was legally able to resign from that church and organized religion and I have not missed it for 49 years!

How hypocritical.

her ignorance is delicious.

Religious belief should not come in to play in any decision the President makes. It souldn't matter if the Pres is Xtian, Muslim, Athiest, Scientologist, Buddist, Shinto or Satanist. I am for Zero Tolerance of religious belief influencing public policy.

....well, I believe the problem lies in the fact that if one has been indoctrinated in a religion as a child, especially to the extent of attending religious schools and/or being home-schooled in the religion, one may not have the capacity to even consider NOT applying the learned religious principles when making decisions.

That's the way this lady in the video behaves - as do all devout, fundamentalist relogious people - the only "values" they have and the only principles they know are their religious tenets, so that's the filter through which they make all decisions.

True. And those people are pretty easy to spot. They're proud of it. Take President Numbnuts for example. He came right out and said he was going to use his religious beliefs in making policy decisions. IT's not like he's some sleeper agent who only revealed his religious nuttery after he got in to office.

I think the universal ethic or reciprocity, or the "golden rule" that pretty much all religions hold should be the starting point for all policy.

Love thy neighbour as thyself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. What thou avoidest suffering thyself seek not to impose on others. And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose thou for thy neighbour that which thou choosest for thyself.

I'm sure Tracey would be shocked to hear them scurry Muzlims got it, too: "That which you want for yourself, seek for mankind."

If all policy were derived from this ethical starting point, imagine what a truly beautiful world this would be.

Sure. Unless god tells you that he gave you the land they're living on. Then you massacre every man, woman and child. (Joshua 8)

That woman is primarily a bigot-- but since that's socially unacceptable, she couches it in religion and faux-patriotism.

Not really.. I mean why you say "I can't imagine having a president named 'Obama'"
..it's just naked, unadulterated bigotry.

He's the real victim here.

It's ok be an ignorant, xenophobic, racist, misogynist so long as you throw the name "jesus" in there somewhere and know how to misquote superstitious fairy tales from the babble.

This is inappropriate, but it makes me think of the South Park episode where Cartman challenges Kyle in obtaining gold record status first.

Cartman starts a Christian group, Faith, plus one, and writes love songs, substituting Jesus' name for the name of a girl or Babe. Everything is all right, as long as it is in the name of Jesus.

One of the Ten Commandments: "Thou shalt not take my name in vain", which does not mean swearing. It means taking vows, attributing some to God that is not God's. It means everything this woman is doing.

You can bet her husband will be getting used to his hand. He is cut off, if you know what I mean, until he makes the "right" decision.

Fun and games aside, I wonder how loving some gods are. Would your god say a Muslim is less important then a Christian? Or only those with the "right" name will go to heaven. What hypocrisy.

Joseph

...all three of the current "great" religions are montheistic, and supposedly, all believe in the same, one god - the god of Abraham (Jew - Musilm - Christian). The main difference being the prophets who provided the "offical rules" to the masses in different lands at different times.

All a bunch of crazy myths, if you ask me.

is how she equates being a Muslim as worse than being an Atheist.

This woman is the American equivalent of the Taliban.

I can't imagine being married to her, she would drive me crazy. I'd say things like, "hunny, I don't think you should smoke crack", and she would say, "the lord will take care of me". Still he choose to marry her, and now he has to deal with it.

A lot of these people become fanatical Christians for several reasons:

1. They have horrible spouses that they cannot "control", so they put their lives in God's hands and pray, pray, pray for that backsliding spouse.

2. They have make horrible decisions about their lives and put their lives in the hands of their church leaders, fearful to make any life decisions on their own. Their favorite parable has to do with the Shepherd and his sheep.

3. They lack community and a sense of belonging. They hate their lives, are angry and jealous of others. They join the local hate club in their area that reinforces their beliefs.

That's the whole point. People like this-- and they exist in every organized religion-- are so afraid of making the WRONG decision that they rely on someone else, a church leader, a "Master" for my Eastern (India) friends... to tell them what to do, say, think, be.

I have s sister-in-law who is Pentacostal. She has lived her life in this paralyzing fear, and guess what? She has M.S. Now she doesn't HAVE to make a wrong move. She isn't a hateful person, just fearful.

My husband is treating her with his product, www.royaloil.org and it has taken most of the pain away. Even doctors haven't been able to do that.

The placebo effect can be very strong.

Zacharia, Zebediah, Methusalah et al...?

Religious fanatics tend to be the biggest bigots one will come across. They use their religion as a means of descrimation against so many groups, and don't see the irony of that behavior, as it relates to prayer.

If as some claim we are waging a war against relgious extremism- we need to start with fighting the Christians here at home- they are far more dangerous to this country than any radical Muslim...

Christian fundamentalism IS a hate group

What is it with these bigoted christians? These people seem to be brimming with hatred and intollerance.

Jesus- the man they worship as a god -advocated tolerance and peace- Do they even bother following his example????

This woman won't vote for Obama because of his name? One might as well not vote for McCain since he shares the same name as Pres Lincoln's assasin.

If Jesus came to earth today, these people would be the ones encouraging their own Pontius Pilate to "Kill Him!"

I have no doubt about this at all.

If you haven't read Doesteyevsky's The Brothers Karamozov and, specifically, the section on the Grand Inquisitor. It's brilliant.

....eventually turns out to really be "The ONE" - man, are all these people screwed!!!! LOL

They get it all from the radio & TV,... do you think this woman actually READS? Do you think she's getting these views from christian apologists like GK Chesterson or CS Lewis?

The Ted Haggerts & Pat Robertson's of the world are filling the void in their lives, that lost lonely void from having no education, working two jobs, & all their dreams shattered. They go from trailer trash to 'sitting at the right hand of God' instantly.

All you need to do is look at all the things they preach against to find out who they really are & what they're really saying. And it's the complete opposite of what Jesus says.

I thought Gen Powell's comments this weekend were right on the mark when talking about comments HE heard from RNC leaders about Obama being a Muslim.....that the RIGHT answer should be "so what if he is?"
What kind of a nation are we when a Muslim kid can fight and die for his country (USA) but NOT be able to aspire to being the president?

Faith divides us.....spirituality unites us....

as regards her husband, he apparently is more concerned with feeding his family then he is in feeding his prejudice.

It's good that he loves his chidren. Can't say the same about her.

This cannot be stressed enough. Powell eloquently made a strong and accurate point with this statement.

That woman has lousy values. If that's what "Christianity" is, then any person of good moral character should stay away from church.

As atheists, we are supposed to respect the beliefs of others. But this woman is the public face of the xtianity we see. It's no wonder we feel marginalized and are being more vehement in defense of our values. We are the fastest growing "faith" based group in the country. We just don't have faith.

"The term values is so misused. Tracy, and she has every right to feel the way she does, should not be represented as being a values voter in my opinion. I'd call it something else."

Well, after viewing Tracy's "values", I feel some accurate labels might include "ignorant" or "childish" or "closed/small minded" or "racist" or "xenophobic" or "know-nothing" or "fact-proof" or "lost" or "terribly sad" or "unreachable" ... I guess "ignorant" might cover it all as a shorthand.

Tracy might as well be living in a cave somewhere.

She can't help it. She's afraid--of everything.

Afraid of terrorists hiding under her bed.

Afraid of neighbors who have different last names than her.

Afraid of any sort of change.

Afraid of a world that doesn't resemble her narrow pre-conceived ideas of America, which resemble a Norman Rockwell cover for Saturday Evening Post.

You better believe she exists in a very tiny universe with others who constantly reinforce her view of things.

She isn't necessarily stupid. She just refuses to use her brain.

She's going to awful angry for the next eight years!!

Folks this proves that money is not the root of all evil, it's religon.

Christians in Name Only.

Repeat that often. Make it stick like a Republican talking point.

Can we leave the discussion of how frigid this woman might be out of this? There are legitimate reasons to criticize her, but her sexuality shouldn't be on the table as far as I'm concerned.

Sickening, The Republicans have brought back Hate and Fear in a big way. Not just against blacks but non-christians, Arabs, Muslims, anyone different then these so called values voters. Lets call a pig a pig ok?
They don't have values, they have hate, Jesus would spin on his cross if he heard this filth. Hate for gays , hate for liberals, hate for anyone they are told to hate. Where is the media on this story, no not that one, the one that says Jesus is a homophobic, racist, big money, pro-gun, pro big business, anti-poor pro hate God.

It seems that PBS is spending more time now (GOOD thing) exposing what has happened to 'regular' people on the ground that clearly have been dumbed down by the last few years of being told what to do, what to believe, what to think, and when to do everything in their lives. This is a REAL problem for the average American that has clearly, in some areas, been completely brainwashed.

What will it take to get this group of individuals to actually use their brains again?? Is there an answer? OR, are they relegated to listening/watching Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck, et. al. who have become their only outlet to the outside world! This is truly a scary prospect.

Rehab, after total amnesia, is hard enough for a single individual, but embarking on the rehab of a whole segment of a population may be more than we're capable of achieving but we've got to try. It's going to be a long, hard struggle.

Of course, we're surrounded by small-minded bigots - they're what explain the 28%. But why are we hating on them here? That just makes us equally hypocritical.

Am I missing something? What's the point of the post again?

)O(

Seeing what we're up against?

Reasoning is fine with reasonable people, but an exercise in futility when debating a two year old or a 28%er.

That makes some sense, but mostly we just seem to be attacking her.

Why didn't the dumbass interviewer mention that the US Constitution specifically forbids a religious litmus test for election to public office?
Why didn't the interviewer assail her on her "Christian" values of judging not, lest ye be judged? Or
Removing the log from thine own eye before thou attendst to the beam in thy neighbor's?
Why didn't the interviewer assail her about her obvious distaste for the religion of Islam? How would she feel if the situation were reversed?
The interviewer was waaay to respectful of her religious beliefs, exactly the point that some atheists make about religion being off-limits to logic. I'm a hateful, xenophobic bigot, but it's part of my religious beliefs, so it's hunky dory!

If a significant number of the citizenry in a democracy opt for some type of passivity (cultural norms - "Be polite", religious dogma - "Love your neighbour") in the face of the potential abuse of power, then that void will indeed be filled by others who will wield that power and there is always the possibility that what they do with the power that has been ceded will be wrong-headed, venal and destructive. Doubt and the challenging of all policies/legislation is at the heart of democracy. The Athens of Scorates is where it all started.
