I am writing this post so that I can email it to my in-laws who watch Glenn Beck's show every single day and ask them how they can support this kind of heartless and inhuman spew. I am writing this post because it isn't right for him to be able to shout this kind of excrement out with no counter response. It offends me. No, it infuriates me. At this point, it's all too personal and too close to home and I'm really just damn sick and tired of letting conservatives get away with this crap while they roll in their moneybags and lowball bids on foreclosed homes of the people who aren't them.

Glenn Beck needs to be unemployed for at least 99 weeks, without benefits. He needs to lose everything he worked for all his life, his home, his status, his self-esteem, his overblown sense of self-righteousness and most especially, his damn microphone, pointer and chalkboard.

In 90 seconds, Beck goes for the double play: Demonize unions and the unemployed together, because they're not "regular Americans." No, they're so into sucking off the government teat that they won't even bother to look for a job.

C&L's posting standards prevent me from using the language I think appropriate to describe this man with a brain cell count lower than an amoeba and the soul of the devil himself. But as someone who has been employed and has been an employer too, listening to the venom in his tone and the hypocrisy of his hate was enough to make me run for the Tums. I'm also going to have to plaster the hole in the wall where my closed hand went through it while viewing the video for the first time.

This is what right-wing compassion looks like. View it up close and personal. There's nothing but a selfish, ugly, lying, shriveled piece of sh-t where a heart should be.

The transcript follows, but watch the video, because it's as much his tone of voice as it is what he says. Also, he's either lying in the video or he's lying here. But you knew that. It's his native tongue.

You have the 99ers. Have you heard of the 99ers? Oh, there they are. The Democratic Socialists of America. The 99ers. These people, some of which, frankly, I bet you'd be ashamed to call them Americans.

They think that 99 weeks on employment benefits just aren't enough. Last week they went down to Wall Street and they protested. 99er Connie Kaplan asked, "Are you going to tell us, President Obama and Congress, that our lives are not worth saving?"

Connie, here's an idea, I'll save your life. Don't spend your remaining money on travel to get to a protest, go out and get a job. You may not love the job. Work at McDonald's. Work at two jobs. There's been plenty of times in my life where I've done jobs that I've hated, but I had no choice.

Two years is plenty of time to have lived off your neighbor's wallet.

Awww, stop being so mean, these people are just regular people. Really? Are they really just regular people? She looks normal, doesn't she? (points to woman holding sign) Yes, there she is.

These aren't regular people. These are Workers of the World Unite, these are SEIU people, AFL-CIO, the Democratic Socialists of America -- that's not regular people. They're socialists and anti-capitalists.

Do you remember seeing this photo on The Drudge Report last week? (From sign) "A job is a right." By the way, here's the union label, right there. No. A job is not a right. In the former Soviet Union, it was a right. In Venezuela, it's a right, but not here.

How many weeks of unemployment are enough? Really? If 99 weeks is not enough, how much is? Is it 100, is it 200, is it a lifetime?

They love being called that. What really needs to be called out is how they keep making unemployment sound like a handout. Unemployment is an INSURANCE system. You pay into it (maybe not directly, but you do pay in terms of lower wages. When you file for unemployment you are making a claim insurance claim. Bozos like Beck refuse to grasp that.

karoli's picture

He may be evil but he's not stupid. He took the opportunity to take a cheap shot at unions at the expense of the unemployed.

Oh not to worry. He laid into the unemployed too, with the age old aristocratic saying:

so are the rest of those regressive chumps that work for Murdoch.

What we have is an FCC with absolutely no teeth (sorry, but thanks to Reagan for getting rid of the fairness doctrine, and Clinton/Gore for allowing the Telecom Act of 1996 to become law), the corporate scum that were given loads of broadband in the Telecom Act of 1996 think they own it. They certainly know they can say almost anything they want without anyone telling them it is not a responsible use of the once public airwaves.

This man is absolutely pathetic, and he's a seditious scumbag!

Beck, Murdoch, and Ailles are a huge drain on civilization, but i think we'll get through all right in the end.
Every day Conservatives are just really, really slow in figuring stuff like this out.

The rich elite 1% are different. They will take us out one by one if they feel the need, if we let them.

For them, this is it!
They will be desperate, so we must be strong.

What does a 99'er do when the unemployment stops? They have no choice but to turn to welfare and food stamps. The GOPers seem to think these people will now just go away? As if they will just stop eating? Push them on to the welfare rolls and next they'll lose the home, then the car. They will have an impossible task trying to return to the workforce.

Does he really think people are just so in love with picking up their unemployment checks at the PO Box they rent while living out of their cars? I just saw a report today about how the suicide rate is spiking right alongside the unemployment rate, and still, asshats like Glenn Beck get off snarling epithets like we're a bunch of lame idiots with our hands out.

are the 80/90's "welfare queens".

The loathsome, greedy, pasty-white right wingers grab and frame the most needy among us and demonize them until the rest of the country believes it.

Truly a horror show.

Demeaning the poor and worshiping the rich. That does have a ring of immorality to it doesn't it.

Col. Nicholson's picture

Since the start of the recession, I've been wondering about rates of suicide. There was the initial sensational reporting in the first months of the crash. But, to me, its been oddly not mentioned, or reported. One exception is the military, which is attributed to tours served overseas. What if its more in-line to the domestic aspects of returning home to this dysfunctional country at this time?

You tube removed the video pretty quickly, the story was this lady's unemployment ran out.....killed her 2 son's.....the TV twits said she just wanted freedom from her children......I guess.....:/

Only video I can find left on you tube. I do believe this is the 3rd story now I can remember about desperate parents off'ing their families.

I have no idea the facts of this story, MSM as usual reporting spin opinions and not real facts.

I'd like to ask him how many people losing there lifetime of work is enough. How many homeless are enough..really. What is it 10 thousand, 100 thousand, a million?

Great question. And comeback.

Actually I'm ashamed to call him and "students" Americans. As a matter of fact if I had to use his standard I'd rather not be called one.
Suspicious of empathy and social causes and justice
Favors preemptive war
Rationalizes torture
Demeans the poor and worships the rich.

Just a short list of his not only wrongness but his blatant immorality and complete lack of values. If I was a Christian I'd be quite adamant with everyone I see that he does not represent the Christian faith. As someone who was raised in it I'd say his spew bears no resemblance at all to anything I learned in my church.
He may be the most despicable person on the planet right now if Dick Cheney wasn't around. I am immensely disgusted by his poor taste and inappropriateness but he does have the first amendment on his side. To bad he can't accept that with others. Just another thing that makes him worthless.

In Beck's world, if you're rich, you obviously did something wonderful and are being rewarded. If you're poor, you did something horrible and you deserve punishment (e.g., working at McDonalds). Justice is a natural, infallible process and any attempts to overturn current social conditions is blasphemy, plain and simple.

So get out there and praise the rich and strong, and turn your heads away from the sinful weak and downtrodden! They look so silly, wrapped up in despair!

And for the doubters, the power of Beck's message is evidenced by how many people tune in to watch! Clearly Beck is right because the natural, infallible market has spoken.

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

Here's the response, karoli.

The GOP says..."We can't afford these programs any more".

The Democratic response is...yes we can...increase taxes on the rich, tax offshore income of American corporations, reduce the military budget.

Easy, huh. Oh wait, the sound from the Democrats is deafening. Hmmmm...I wonder why? Maybe the folks over at the DLC know.

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

Tends to be limited to a focus on the greatest evil. So if I have a chance at changing something via a lesser evil, I'm not inclined to take shots at them when there is such a target-rich environment right there.

And honestly, I'd rather have an alternative to the DLC types that's viable, rather than simply bashing them altogether. To that end, Blue America is doing a great job with it, and I support them wholeheartedly and with whatever money I can send their way.

rich people like rick scott or the thief greene from Florida using their stolen millions to buy elections is a major problem as well. This ass greene is running against a true Democrat Kendrick Meek for Senator here in Florida. He used to be a republic and will be again if elected just like blanche lincoln and the fool nelson from Nebraska. They are mot Democrats they are republics. The rich are using their money as power to increase their money and power. scott and greene could care less about the unemployed but they do care passionately about their money. Buying elections has become the only way into "public office" and is terrible and sad.

And before I get attacked again, here is my last comment on the matter.

You want to continue to support the status quo and swallow the Dem bullshit of it's hard, we need to win our elections? My answer is simple...I'm sure that the Blanche Lincoln is gonna hop right on that agenda.

Bottom line...quit the bitchin'. It's really getting old.

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

And I wish Bill Halter had won. I certainly did as much as I could toward that end, but it's also true that her state is markedly conservative and growing more so by the day.

So I point out Glenn Beck's evil and support better candidates and somehow that's not enough?

And I wish Bill Halter had won.

I wish all aspirin was alike.

Face facts. The whole "lets primary their assess" was undone by your own party. The Dems put Harold Ford Jr out there as an "alternative" candidate in NY! Geez, how pathetic was that, and the bottom line, now NY Dems are stuck having to vote for a shitty Dem candidate or lose the seat, and that's just ONE example.

The DLC handed you your head with Bill Halter...and the kicker is...now they've thrown Blanche over the side.

FOX News has just ANNOUNCED they are the biggest contributors to the GOP candidates.

Rail away if it makes you feel better.

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

Here's a piece of advice which sums up why the GOP will win, continue to win, the Dems will never change and the Dem supporters will all go along with it.

How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

...Glenn Beck an American. Do I laugh or throw up when Beck talks about "merit?" Look at what Beck does -- he makes shit up on TV and radio and tries to incite people to violence -- and tell me there is any merit involved in what he does for a living. The only reason he can earn money doing what he does is because there are so many Americans who are stupid, ignorant, dishonest, or just plain insane.

That's the problem. "Merit" is a term with moral connotations. In the United States, it is assumed that if you do something for a living that:

1. makes money; and
2. is legal

you have no right to complain or pass judgement on the person doing it.

There is NO merit to what Beck does IMHO. Teachers, janitors, truck drivers, et. al. provide infinately more value to society than that asshole. However, my opinion carries very little weight in a society where bullshit is blessed and pandering to the mob is rewarded.

Anais's picture

It kind of makes me want to puke. Unions have a much-diminished influence in this country, and Beck punches them while they're down? Wow, what a big man. And what does Beck expect people to do once the 99 weeks (or less) of unemployment compensation have evaporated? Go on welfare and food stamps, against which he will rail next?
Instead of protesting on Wall Street, those without jobs should start protesting at Fox News studios or better yet, Glenn Beck's mansion (wherever it is).

WILLIE KRASH's picture

Some stuff to kick around. Corporations therefore visa a vis the wealthy are not creating jobs but are reported to be sitting on between 1.8 and 5 t dollars. I'll go with 1.8t.
Now some fun stuff. Brookings institute studied job gap. We will need 11.3 million jobs to get back to pre-recession levels. During the 2000's the best month of job creation was 208,000 jobs. At that rate it will take 11 years to get back where we were!!!!!!!

During the 1990's we created 321,000 jobs a month, it would take 5 years to get back.

Playing the averages we could get back to pre-recession jobs in 2021. This July the work force grew 83,000 jobs.

Today 4.7 people are available for every job. In 2007 it was 1.5. 2,000,000 have lost their unemployment benefit. Typically called unemployment insurance that worker thru' their job (employer) pays for....

Oh yes in 2001 the ratio was 2.8 for every job opening. So keep the tax cuts or hand the keys back?

Mr_unbiased's picture

Ok well before I start off let me tell everyone I'm not a member of either party as I believe joining any party limits your ability to freethink as many people automatically agree with any of their parties opinions without thinking once. John beck was harsh in what he said but you have to realize there's a lot of people living off of unemployment who are lazy fucks. Like seriously they wake up, eat, then sleep. They don't contribute to society at all and some of them barely look for a job. I just finished my first year of college and it took me one month to find a job by MYSELF and i barely looked. If I was unemployed I'd be visiting every store but people get used to their weekly or biweekly unemployed pAycheck, to the point where they think moneys going to float their way all the time while they lay on their couch making excuses. To the people out there TRYING to stand on your own two feet, I commend you, but to everyone else, GROW THE FUCK UP. programs like welfare, and foodstamps deserve need to have stricter guidelines, and not allow people to live freely forever. Pres Roosevelt created these programs for THE GREAT DEPRESSION not fucking 2011. And please no one even try to compare our economy now to the great depression. That would be like comparing apples to oranges

Maybe you should re-think this..."John beck was harsh in what he said" ;P

There is a slight difference between finding a summer job at Blockbuster or MickeyD's and finding a job that will support your family. Sometimes life's little realities like kids, food, mortgages, car payments, and student loans get in the way of saying "fuck it, I'll go work for minimum wage so I don't have to feel like freeloader."

Please, take your own advice, grow the fuck up, and come talk to the adults when you finish college, stop living off mommy and daddy, and comdemning those who were unlucky enough to get laid-off.

Mr_unbiased's picture

I would much rather accept a minimum wage paying job for the time being, then sit on my ass at home hoping GOD or someone else will save me one day and pay my light bill. I Have grown up which is why i try to do shit myself, instead of doing the opposite which is "living off my parents" as you have said. Theres people out there, arguably, who sit out there doing nothing, just waiting for their checks to arrive. And as I said before I give love to the people who are unemployed but trying, or were you to high up on your extreme liberal mule to understand that. I only condemn those who sit around not doing shit. Are you informed, because if you are, you would know programs like social security and others dont work in the long run. According to WHITE HOUSE estimates social security is being threatened, and it may not last, because you have more people taking out then putting in. Therefore all this money your DUMBASS is putting towards social security, well lets just say it will never see the light of day. BUT THEN AGAIN IM JUST A STUPID KID.

do you not understand?? It's INSURANCE that I have paid into for all my working life. I am now laid off at 67, healthy, intelligent, AND NO ONE WILL HIRE ME!! So, yeah, the UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE is kinda important to me. Let me know who will hire a good administrative assistant over 50 who knows the computer programs for more than $8.40 an hour, and I'll go see 'em. And, sorry...$8.40 an hour is not a decent living for ANY adult. That's that minimum wage El Rushbo is so fond of saying all the teenagers are getting paid during summer vacation.

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”

Whatever the system, there will be people who find a way to game it. They are beside the point. Most of the folks on long term unemployment are not there by choice, most of them would love to work again, but when there are 5-6 people for every job, you odds are not good.

My son went to a job fair for a local grocery store. It's a great place to work, but they had to expand the hours of the job fair because 1,500 people showed up for a possible chance that they might get an interview in 2 to 6 months. No job openings, just the possibility of job openings; 1500 people showed up and waited in line for an hour or more. I don't think that indicates 'lazy f**ks'

Or what about the guy who was interviewed a while back: he is a highly skilled worker who because he was well paid before, can get more $$ on unemployment than taking any of the available jobs which pay half of what he made before. As he explained, this way he has to take less out of his savings to make the bills, and his savings will last longer, also, the low paying jobs are not all that secure either, and if he takes one and is laid off from that job his unemployment will be cut to reflect that job, not the well paying one. He is looking all the time, but explain why he has not made good decisions for himself. Or that in the same circumstances you would not do the same thing.

Mr_unbiased's picture
[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]

Guess what mr unbiased. There were lazy fucks way before welfare that acted exactly the same way. Except they were maybe more criminal.
The trend has been more jobless recoveries and more lower paying jobs and fewer higher paying ones. A trend that pick up speed a pace. Half the jobs pay less than 40 thousand a year. That includes many that are likely not much more than half that. Meeting the obligations of our society on that isn't easy. There are only so many high paying jobs. Not everyone can have one. So what do we do, GROW THE FUCK UP and just say screw them?
Millions of people are retraining and going back to school and doing all they can. And you know what? Even with that it is against the odds. Most of the country is not the lazy bastards you so ruthlessly demean.
The problem is not the people it is the system. When you figure that out maybe we can get together and try to find a solution.

Mr_unbiased's picture

As you are well aware mr. ronspri I am currently attending school, therefore I am apart of the solution. Instead of sitting around just blogging about this, as many of the people on this site do, I actually try to help. I have done many things, and I am an active member of my community who talks about reform a lot. All Im saying is you guys really dont give a shit, to you guys this is about republicans and democrats, and I belong to neither party. But truly in my opinion, programs like unemployment shouldnt exist, and should be privatized, however those companies should be under the microscope of the Federal gov't, to keep them in check. Privatizing certain federal programs like social security solves many issues. For one people wont have to complain about how the government "rapes" their paycheck for FICA, SSI, and other programs. The option would be theirs. Also the government wouldnt have to spend as mucht ime focused on these programs which were only invented for TEMPORARY PUEPOSES. The government should not be involved in providing assistance forever. In the end, seriously, our world has been built on based on the concept "survival of the fittest". Not everyone will have a perfect life, and in the end only the strong will survive, and this economic instability in my opinion is a slight way of the world telling us, hey you cant have constant population growth, and hey things need to change.

If you are currently attending school, please take a remedial English class- you need it.

"Apart". I think you mean "a part."

Look it up in the dictionary.

With your striking command of the English language, I would hazard a guess we won't see you anytime soon on the graduation podium. If you managed to graduate, it is assumed you had to pay off the profs to do so.

I am a 55 year old who graduated with 2 degrees and a 4.0 average, at the ripe old age of 48. I had a 31 year career before I became disabled.

I am currently disabled with three auto immune diseases.I am not a "lazy fuck." You are invited to survive on my disability insurance stipend. It's currently about $15000 a year, and I pay 2 mortgages in California, and I am not receiving any government assistance such as food stamps or welfare.

I don't need to "grow up". You do.

It will be DEMOCRATS who reduce or eliminate Social Security. It may even happen in my lifetime.

It was Democrats who threw the unions under the bus, when they were being attacked.

It was Democrats who allowed the filibuster on unemployment coverage.

It was Democrats who gave the latest handout to healthcare insurers.

It was Democrats who signed off on the watering down of financial reform.

The Nutty Professor: "Quit living off somebody else's wallet!". Umm...excuse me but didn't those "freeloaders" pay unemployment insurance when they were working? AIG and Wall Street bailouts, no bid goverment contracts to Hallibuton, that's living off somebody else's wallet if you ask me. in fact, its the super rich

Check out this time lapse map. I guess the Nutty Professor thinks these Americans who were all working just got lazy all of a sudden. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T6vuoQdY6Q

What a nutty, heartless, snake oil salesman.

I believe the employer pays the unemployment insurance.

it's part of the overall compensation package. A small part, but part nevertheless. Employers pay short-term disability insurance, too, but you don't see them calling disabled people deadbeats.

First they lay you off, then kick you in the throat. Nice.

You negotiate for a job. Unemployment is part of that negotiation. So in my mind at least, it is part of the overall package you negotiate for.

Beck better hope that god he talks about so much isn't real because if he is, when Glenn gets to the pearly gates, his ass will be grass.

To quote Frederick Douglass,

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."

Gandhi was backed by millions of violent Indians. MLK had the Black Panthers and Malcolm X.

Non-violence ain't all it's cracked up to be. Simply put, there is a reason why the Establishment touts King and Gandhi's "non-violence;" because they know non-violent movements often fizzle out or get crushed.

ysbaddaden's picture

Malcolm X and the Black Panthers were considered rivals of MLK,

X was a part of the Nation of Islam,

Some think it was the Nation who murdered him after a public split.

And the panthers used incendiary phraseology, while at the same time setting up their own charitable structures.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

JMWeleski's picture

Malcolm X: "I want Dr. King to know that I didn't come to Selma to make his job difficult. I really did come thinking I could make it easier. If the white people realize what the alternative is, perhaps they will be more willing to hear Dr. King."

...and...

MLK: "You know, right before he was killed he came down to Selma and said some pretty passionate things against me, and that surprised me because after all it was my territory there. But afterwards he took my wife aside, and said he thought he could help me more by attacking me than praising me. He thought it would make it easier for me in the long run."

ysbaddaden's picture
)O(

The quotes just proves my point

He sounds more like the old school politician who would scream about the opposition, and then they'd go get coffee together.

That's not to say the differences were not there.

KIng was often accused of trying to work with white society, X and Nation of Islam seemed more interested in setting up a society of their own.

It was giving the whites a choice, but not one born of falsity.

If you actually read X, he could be surprisingly thoughtful and insightful. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was triangulating. He wanted what he wanted, didn't seem to care for King's pacifist approach, but knew by his presence, King would be preferred, and saw that as a potential compromise on the issues, where you don't get everything you wanted, but you didn't walk away empty handed either.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

JMWeleski's picture

I have read Malcolm X.

The reason I mentioned him during this discussion is because he adopted a much more extreme, in-your-face approach that was not opposed to violence. MLK, on the other hand, was absolutely committed to non-violence. Despite the ex post facto whitewashing, both movements, however factional, ultimately worked in tandem to end segregation and promote civil rights. They were complementary tactics, and it's questionable whether the civil rights movement would have achieved what it did without both approaches.

The same can be said for Gandhi and the Indian revolution.

Non-violence has its benefits, but then again, so does violence. After all, the Revolutionary War and the Civil War were not won via peaceful marches and mere civil disobedience. They were won by people willing to put their lives on the line for a cause they believed in.

Certain causes against certain opponents require certain tactics. I don't think non-violence is the answer to all problems, as many on the Left appear to believe. Far more likely, I believe, is that their unyielding devotion to non-violence is borne from cowardice.

I truly believe there will come a day when Beck will be ashamed to be Glenn Beck. A day when the country simply laughs at him as he stands on a street corner screaming about one thing or another.

A few thoughts,

1) How does Glenn Beck have a viewing audience? It's truly astonishing. I, as well as most others, know for a fact that many of the "ruggedly individualistic" Americans who loath "government handouts" are typically no better off than most other Americans. Their mental image of themselves, in other words, is not in line with their actual societal and economic status.

2) All things considered, unemployment and underemployment range from 15-20%. That's roughly 1 our of every 5 Americans. Additionally, there are, on average, 5 Americans for each job opening.

Yes, most of us have accepted jobs we dislike, but very few have that luxury nowadays.

3) I'm not sure if I have ever witnessed such disdain for the general public. Again, it's truly astonishing.

Glenn Beck has a following because he is the new face of the Republican party. FOX is a Republican front. Well, now it's a Republican back too.

Tonight Beck said he and his wife rented the Kennedy Center for the Arts to have a shindig the night before his big deal in DC. He's having a bunch of ministers etc and they are going to pray like the founders did only relate the sermons to today. When the Center found out they were going to pray, according to Beck, they called him and said there cannot be prayer in a building funded by he govt. Beck has decided he will go ahead with the shindig and do all the praying the group wants to.

when I was in my 20's, had little qualifications, no degree in anything, and few prospects. I didn't run out my unemployment insurance before I found another job, but it took months and months and months of endless looking and filling out job applications and half the time not even getting an interview. In the end, I was reduced to accepting food parcels from non-denominational church groups, standing in long, long lines for government surpluses on cheese and butter, and going to interviews in sandals, because they were the only shoes I had left that weren't broken. I even ended up living in my car for a short time, because I couldn't pay my rent - unemployment rarely covers more than the basic necessities. I remember that time very well indeed, being scared and broke is not fun, no matter how Beck thinks the unemployed are living it up.

There aren't enough jobs - that's the long and short of it. People like Beck who pretend that the problem is the reverse, that it's the fault of those who don't want to work rather than there not being enough jobs is like Marie Antoinette's 'let them eat cake' when told that the peasants are going hungry because there's no bread.

And we all know what happened to her after that little faux pas.

Thank you for your interest in ***. We have reviewed your background and qualifications and unfortunately, they are not a match for our current needs.

Dear Beck,

This is a company that has just gone public. I went for a customer service position. I have over 30 years of work experience. I have had my own business, worked for corporation, startups, solopreneurs etc. I have gotten rave review for my customer service.
I replied to their email and asked if they could let me know specifically how I was not a match. After all what did I have to lose at this point. Below is their response.

Thank you for your continued interest in ***. Because of the small size of the company (we're barely at 70 employees) and the high volume of very qualified candidates (due to the unfortunately economic mess we've found ourselves in), there were stronger candidates whose experience more closely aligned with the needs of the Community Team.

I have been on a number of interviews where I get to the 4th interview, send along the recommendations, and don't get a call back, and no response. I see the recommendations I know they are OK. I don't have a criminal background etc. I was laid off in Nov. 08 this is the longest I have gone without even a sucky job. Yeh, I guess I could go down the block and apply at a store but my bad knees, you know the ones that were to be operated on before the layoff might not hold up.

I am lucky that I now owe my family $10,000 for rent and legal fees when my landlord tried to evict me. I do try to be positive and I am only bitching here because Beck is just scum. By the way I have not had unemployment since 12/09 when they discovered I made under $700 in a year doing part time work. Sigh. The beginning of the month is coming up and there is no rent money yet. Oh, Beck can you give a girl a hand?

karoli's picture

...was that the kid they hired for that position was 25. The strongest candidates with the best resumes are the ones who won't be hired anytime soon. We're too expensive, too old, or we 'don't fit'.

Women who aren't under 30 need not apply. That's the sign they should post.

Susie's picture

I hate the multiple interviews and asking for recommendations and then no courtesy call to say they hired someone else.

I get the "you are so smart, and capable, blah, blah, blah..."

I think I will make up a persona like Ann Coulter and just rant about stuff and write stupid books about nothing.

karoli's picture

I get the same thing, over and over. I know it's not me, because my credentials are just fine for the jobs I'm applying for, and I have strong computer skills, too. The ageism is really awful right now.

Susie's picture

Oh wait, I should be getting dates not a job. But I'm not getting those either. I am actually surprised by the ageism because it is this last layoff that has been really difficult. All the other times 4 months was the most. But you rock girl. What will your new persona be...?

Shopping for personas...LOL I can say what I'm not: "mama grizzly." :D

If it weren't for my wife, there's a good chance I'd have just ended it all. Now I work for slightly more than minimum wage and less than I was getting from unemployment. I ran out at 79 weeks.

I can't tell you how heartbreaking it is to hear people tell me that it's my fault I don't have a job. It just breaks my heart. I did everything I was supposed to do. I played by the rules, worked hard, got an education and now... I'm thinking I'll never really work ever again. Who wants to hire someone who's been unemployed/underemployed for so long? I've looked and looked for work. Applied for two jobs a day. I even retrained as a teacher. I got my teaching certificate. I can't seem to find a teaching job.

Whatever. How much is enough unemployment? Fuck if I know. I don't want any more unemployment. I want a goddamn job.

I feel your pain man. I've had my teaching credential for five years and got cut loose my tenure year. Get this, the guy in charge of hiring teachers at the my former district refers to himself as the "job god" which is funny because he can't pass the tests in order to become a teacher (You'd think any type of "god" could pass a test!) but then again, I don't know why I'm complaining, I learned long ago that in my former district you fail upward!. good luck to you!

You are the one who is not normal. Normal people put in an honest day's work and hope they get an honest day's pay in return.
You, on the other hand, are a bloodsucking leech - sucking the life out of those around you. You make millions by lying to people, playing on their fears and anger. You do not contribute to society - your goal is to tear it down by turning people against each other.

Watch Glenn Beck's picture

I'll put Glenn's comments about the union folks not being 'real' folks in context so that they may be more properly understood.

You all remember when Nancy Pelosi was accusing all of the people protesting healthcare of being 'astroturf' protesters--you know, those people are not really there based on their ownd regard but because some higher-level groups with big pockets of money formally organized them and bused them all in to protest. IE...they really weren't 'real' protesters (they were, but that is beside the point).

Well, the "A Job is a Right" sign was created and handed out by a higher-level, big pocket union organizations. The people were also all bussed-in to protest, not really on their own regard but because their leadership 'needed' them there. In a word, it is 'astrotruf.'

So using Nancy Pelosi's own logic, if 'real' protesters means 'grass-roots' protesters, then Glenn Beck is right...these are not 'real' protesters, they are indeed as fake as 'astroturf.'
