John Stossel Heading Home Where He Belongs - Fox News!

John Stossel has been masquerading as a journalist at ABC for years. We've documented some of his hackery and whining over time and as I fully expected, he's finally making the jump to crazytown where he belongs -- Fox News:

John Stossel is leaving ABC News for Fox, where he'll host a weekly show on Fox Business and host a series of specials for Fox News.

TVNewser reports that the libertarian "20/20" host is expected to sign a multi-year-deal with Fox, where he'll host a two-hour weekly show on Fox Business and make appearances on Fox News in both the daytime and primetime hours.

Stossel's departure comes on the heels of last week's announcement that Charlie Gibson is retiring from ABC News. Read on...

At least at Fox Business he won't have to worry about ratings or being seen by very many people, but his "specials" for Fox News should fit right in with their low-brow, low-information standards. ABC will be a better network for letting him go.

I have avoided using the above wrestling, smack-down clip in past Stossel posts, but the comparison between Fox News and wrasslin' was too precious to pass up!

A rare photo of John Stossel after the smackdown

Wow! He got beat so bad, he needed plastic surgery and ended up the spitting image of Geraldo Rivera. Keep up the fantastic investigative work, Curt!

You said it Limp, I blocked out Fox GOP terrorism and propaganda years ago! It's great not having to see those fascist bastards except for the posts on teh internets.

Vince McMahon knew that Stossel was doing this report and told Dr Death to slap the hell out of him. As a result, Stossel sued WWF and Dr Death got fired.

That's right, he got fired for doing what his boss told him to.

If you follow professional wrestling at all, these guys absolutely destroy their bodies just to entertain the fans. And McMahon, who was a billionaire before 9/11, treats them pretty badly and punts them as soon as they no longer fit his needs (especially concerning his ego-driven storylines). I bring this up because Jesse Ventura has advocated their talent being represented by a stuntman's union for quite some time.

Yeah, I agree with this. I have a lot of repect for these guys even though the wrestling is choreographed.

Tax the Rich's picture

Stossel sued? I thought he hated lawyers; just like the rest of the conservatards?

even though they successfully fought a case on his behalf, getting his job back at a radio station, after he was fired for shit talking lesbians w/kids. He demanded a 3 hour show after the trial (2 hours more than his pre trial show), and was told to shit in his fist and squeeze it, then built his on the incident. Never brings it up though.

Saved by the ACLU

Hannity challenged his dismissal with help from the Santa Barbara Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU Foundation of Southern California. The civil liberties groups wrote letters on Hannity's behalf, arguing that the state school was breaching his free speech. When KCSB relented, offering him his show back, Hannity held out for more airtime, walking away from the station when he didn't get it.

Hannity's own accounts of his time at KCSB have been selective and incomplete. A few years ago he summed up the experience to Newsday (7/12/99): "You work for free at a college station, where they spit on you and then they fire you." In his best-selling book, Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism, Hannity wrote:

My first gig was with my own talk radio show at the University of Santa Barbara. But it didn't last long. I was too conservative, the higher-ups said, and they didn't like the comments one guest made on the show…The left-wing management had zero-tolerance for conservative points of view. And I was promptly fired. Once my voice was silenced, my destiny was set--do or die, I'd make my career in radio.

In this bit of personal mythmaking Hannity attributes his troubles at KCSB to his conservatism and to the behavior of a guest on his show. Both claims distort what actually happened, exonerating Hannity of any responsibility and casting him as a victim. Maybe that's the point. After all, accurately recounting the KCSB story, including his own hateful language and the inconvenient fact that he was offered his job back, might spoil the pristine image of the free-speech martyr Hannity wants us to believe.

And GWB, he successfully sued a couple of times, once winning $2500 from Enterprise rent a car.

It all part of their 'Do as I say, not as I do' plan for everyone other than them. They're all filthy liars, and Stossel will blend right in.

could have made twice that much.

Heh

... I was only a kid when this actually happened and made the news, but if I were Dr. Death David Schulz at the time, I wouldn't need to have been asked by Vinnie Mac to slap the taste out of John Stossel's cake-hole -- I'd have done it willingly because although the outcomes of wrestling matches are faked and choreographed by the booker, there is simply no way whatsoever ever to fake what getting suplexed and slung around a ring 300+ days out of given year like a ragdoll with no employer provided health care at all is going to do to a human body.

Plenty of former wrestlers such as Jesse Ventura and Rowdy Roddy Piper however are right that for too long pro wrestlers were (and still are) viewed by their promoters as "independent contractors" instead of human beings, and basically chewed up and spit out by the McMahons and Bischoffs of the business, and as a result they paradoxically created the culture of steroid and painkiller addictions that have taken way too many lives of pro wrestlers.

It's why I wish so much that Triple H, Chris Jericho, and other fine pro wrestlers today would follow Dwaine "The Rock" Johnson's model and use the business as a stepping stone to greater things before the business uses them. Sadly people like him get smeared by their colleagues for doing so and its because they're stuck on Vince McMahon's plantation. Seriously, if you're a professional wrestler with children, especially new born children, what good does it do to have millions of dollars in the bank and all sorts of belts and trophies on the walls of your mansion when you can't do even the simplest of things such as chase your 5 and 8 year old kids across the yard because of too many chair shots have screwed your back and too many suplexes and body slams have destroyed your hip joints?!? No matter what walk of life you come from, you can't put a pricetag on such things because such things are priceless.

Lennie's picture

That broken down, steroid infested wrestler had NO BUSINESS putting his hands on anybody outside of a wrestling ring.

I'm no fan of John Stossel but I find no humor in that attack.

Also. Anyone with half a brain knows to not break out the "pretentious intellectual" routine with a "roided" out wrestler.

Since it is Stossel, I am inclined to laugh.

Stossel used to be a wimpy stutterer as a kid. He was probably picked on by the other kids, because of that. He told the story of overcoming his stuttering, when he was on local NY CBS news, years ago. So, he grew up to become the "agressor," rather than having empathy and compassion for people. That's what happens when people don't get the therapy they need.

Stossel is not a bit player so who is on their way out the door over there? Fox likes Beck's ratings but he's hemorrhaging ad revenue and is more trouble than he's worth at this point. Stossel can pull the Fringers without all of the accompanying crazy. Eventually Beck may end up being the weekend person until his contract runs out while Stossel takes over the weekday slots.

That's how they get high value sponsors back in Beck's slots. Stick him in a corner until it's time to toss him out the door. Fox is a business above all else.

I watched that video as a child and it made my decade. Stossel is a tool.

Liberalicious's picture

He (still) is pretty (by a thread)...and that will keep some of the Fox audience. He used to be fairly okay back in 20/20, but this his biased crap came out. But considering how ABC is now, I'm surprised they let him go. I guess the loss of his last remaining gay male followers left, and he's got nothing else but bat-shit crazy Fox c-words to which to pander.

Shadowgm's picture

Stossel's resume includes a special in the 1990's on 'the differences between men and women' in which he made numerous unsubstantiated claims in support of arguments for women not being firefighters, or in the military.

That's one of the first times I saw him on the air, and he got filed in the 'clueless hack' department right away.

Liberalicious's picture

I remember him from when I used to work for an ABC affliate and he was on 20/20 (1980s).....I was younger, clueless and in the South.

Hit and run. You've been flagged. Welcome to bannation.

S20/20 isn't a news show, and it isn't journalism. They used to (still do?) affect an air of newsy gravity, but it's the junkiest of infotainment programs. Its original hosts Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters weren't newspeople either, they were "TV personalities" who, like Stossel, were skilled at pretending to be journalists.

I think Faux is a never-never land for talking heads. You never hear of the Faux people moving onto bigger and better things.

Does anyone remember what happened to turn him into cranky white guy when he use to be an avocate for the people with little or no power.

Did someone pee in his wheat chex?

Tyler Durden's picture

I must recognize I don't know this guy from way back, but in the couple decades I have seen his mug he seems to have been the poster child of libertarians everywhere: a smug, self centered jackass, void of anything resembling human compassion.

truth2power's picture

I saw him many years ago, on my local NY CBS News affiliate, and he used to talk about how he stuttered as a child, and how he overcame it. He was OK back then, but seems to have become a nut since the 20/20 stint. But, if he was bullied as a child, and has had no therapy, he may have learned to "identify with the agressor" to survive. That's how bullies are born! He sounds like one big bully to me!

Note to John Stossel:

Don't take career advice from Geraldo Rivera and Dennis Miller.

You're welcome.

I sure hope he does some more hard-hitting investigative work in this vein. I know some martial artists who claim their sport is real! HA! I'm not falling for it and I don't think John Stossel will either.

smithersSOCAL's picture

I saw this when I was a kid.... Both my father and burst out in laughter.

I distinctly remember my pops saying "thats why you don't run your mouth around guys that are bigger than you".

Whenever I see him pontificating his conservative B$ my mind immediately conjures up this memory.

HA HA.....

HarmonikaSavingsbonds's picture

How wonderful! He finally achieved his dreams. He might now be almost as famous as Geraldo!

Never liked him, never watch Fox. Goodbye.

First Glen Beck and now Stossel on his way to Fox. It's almost as if they have a built in GPS system that guides them home. It's one big mutual admiration society over at Fox. They can all scramble to see which one can generate the most attention from the lunatic fringe that hangs on their every fabrication or exaggeration.

oh really's picture

...and I'm feeling more than a little hypocritical because that is the best John Stossel clip I've ever seen. I'm a horrible person, but I wanted more, More, MORE!!!

As for Stossel and Fox News -- it's the perfect fit.

FOX is an inevitable career move for Stossel but I have to say I'm still disappointed in him.He really showed a lot of early promise.
He really could have made such a great, great Porn Star.
A Gay Porn star. Oh well.

Stossel calls himself a Libertarian which is an excuse many conservatives use when they don't want to take blame for Republican screw ups. But he's really your typical right wing, snarky, blow hard conservative.

That wrestling clip never gets old.

Stossel and Fox are a fine fit. Stossel now has Murdoch's money backing him. Stossel's first story will be "Joe Wilson, American Hero".

Stossel will use his new show to show us how the rich are getting screwed, the poor have too much money, health care for all will destroy the world, Bernie Madoff was a hero, and other goodies.

Don Imus wasn't enough. We are going to miss that played out 70s p0rn star mustache

I just love the last tag- loser.

Professional wrestling isn't fake- it's choreographed. There's a big diference. Personally, I can't watch it.

I beg to differ, but Dr. Deth here is instructive in the preferred method of greeting "reporters" from Fox "News."

Plain and simple, what is a media whore??? one who sells out his journalistic ingegrity for power, position, or wealth or all three or a combination of such. In short, look no further than John Stossel or David meet the press gregory. there is a speical anchor awaiting the both of them in hell.

jmmartin's picture

When Stossel first appeared as an ABC commentator (I think on 20/20), they gave him a segment on studdering, pointing out that Stossel himself used to studder. The problem with studderers (I know, I was one) is that once you lose the studder, no one can shut you up. That might not be so bad except that in Stossel's case his narrow-minded, cryto-fascist blatthering is difficult to take. In spite of his presence, I used to watch the show regularly, but when I got tired of their habit of giving him the entire hour on this or that subject, I said, "That's it," and quit viewing. So I think you're certainly correct in both propositions: ABC is better off without him, and Fox is exactly where he belongs. Good riddance!
