I'd have to say Douglas County would probably poll more liberaler than Johnson County.
Johnson County has 22 State House seats and 7 State Senate seats. ALL of the State Senate seats are Republicans (including State Senator Crazy-Lady from Shawnee), and only 6 of the 22 State House seats are Dems, and all are in the northeastern part of the county.
Four years ago, that was only 1 of 22 (by the way, I live in that one Democratic SH district); two years ago, it was 3 of 22.
As a member of the JC Democratic Party Executive Board, I can tell you that slowly but surely we're making JC purple.
Instead, they're just the party of bad ideas, at least in Kansas.

Old guard Republicans in Kansas, more in the mold of Eisenhower than Rush Limbaugh, became marginalized. Kansas now has three main political parties: Conservative Republican, Moderate Republican and Democratic.

Isn't that the idea of a public option? It's an option for the public, right? I haven't been able to understand the strong opposition on the right to giving people a choice in their health care. Then again, the only time they seem to like giving people a choice is when it involves giving students an inferior education.

This is almost like the "religious right" attempting to ban a TV show they feel violates their hypocritical principles when they can simply choose NOT TO WATCH IT. Let's take it away from everyone - i.e., let's shove our values down everyone's throat...
I fear that if states are allowed to opt out of a public option, we will see a migration of the nation's sick from states such as Kansas to those that will provide a public option; the result could be a "Grapes of Wrath" type of experience for those who can't afford health care. I hope that's comforting to the senators willing to trade their constituents in for some campaign cash, i.e. Bayh, Lieberman, Baucus.

... I did not find any mention re public option for the firs 250 pages of it. There seems to be a slight attempt at the anti-trust exception, but so far searching on the pdf I have only seen a single paragraph on the matter (out of hundreds of pages).
I think they have less than a week to review this thing. But so far, it doesn't look very good. It is not the handouts to the insurance companies that they were tying to hide, as much as it was the public option itself that they wanted to camouflage.
How many megs (or gigs...) is the pdf? I just took about 10 gigs of porn off my computer, so maybe there's room.

While it is true that the KC area is half in Kansas and half in Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri are separate but neighboring cities. KCMO is the much larger of the two.
And the Missourians are the ones who named it. To their credit, the closest competitor was "Possum Trot".
Kansas' largest city is actually Wichita.
