During tonight's Presidential Debate Senator John McCain made the claim that he "warned" about the impending economic crisis. That's amazing, seeing as he said in 2007 that he was in fact surprised by it and failed to predict the disaster he, President Bush and the GOP brought upon America. Think Progress has the video and more:

I don’t know of hardly anybody, with the exception of a handful, that said “wait a minute, this thing is getting completely out of hand and is overheating.” So, I’d like to tell you that I did anticipate it, but I have to give you straight talk, I did not.

Obama nails him in tonight's debate:

Obama: Now I've got to correct a little bit of Senator McCain's history, not surprisingly, but let's first of all understand that the biggest problem in this whole process was the deregulation of the financial system. Senator McCain as recently as March bragged about the fact that he is a deregulator. On the other hand two years ago I said we've got a subprime lending crisis that has to be dealt with, I wrote to Secretary Paulson, I wrote to Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke and told them this is something we have to deal with and nobody did anything about it. A year ago I went to Wall Street and told them we have to re-regulate, and nothing happened.

Barack Obama. Do everything you can to make sure he wins the Presidency.

My FRIENDS, go to cnn.com NOW and VOTE ! Right hand margin clique..

Who fared better in Tuesday's presidential debate?

Sen. John McCain 16% 22239
Sen. Barack Obama 80% 113347
No clear winner 4% 5276

Expect that of the uneducated. Maybe that's why you have the user name "Orangutan". It's very clear that only those who like to persuade (the media) and those who are uneducated who like blame everyone else for the past and current problems, will vote for Obama.

McCain's disrespect towards Obama is see through and rude. Last night after the debate while the candidates were greeting the audience Obama put out his hand for him to shake it and McCain looked right at him and blatantly refused to return the handshake. That incident along with the fact that he called Obama a that was distasteful and tactless. He also looked very intimidated by Obama at the Ole Miss debate when he wouldn't even LOOK at him AT ALL. He does not display the traits of a very down to earth or friendly person and frankly I sense that he is intimated by Barack. I also notice that he like to mirror Barack's answers when he has to follow up after him with a question. McCain is tacky, unoriginal and rude. A president is supposed to be a reflection of what a country stands for and he just doesn't do it for me.

I agree that McCain was definitely imtimidated by Barack in the two debates. And rightfully so! I was a strong Hillary supporter, so didn't come over to the Barack bandwagon easily. But, I have moved to his camp slowly. Not only because he seems to have some reasonable ideas about what to do, but also because McCain/Palin scare the heck out of me. And they are both rude, negative jerks. We need and I want someone who is cool, calm and collected in a raging storm. Unfortunately, we can't handle anything else at this point. McCain/Palin can thank their buddy George Bush for that!

I truly agree that McCain is rude, especially toward Obama. To me he is too old the way he displays his action. If you don't like a person or if you don't agree with their beliefs or views, my mother taught me that you still owe people respect. McCain disrepects Obama a lot, that's terrible. I don't care how much experience he has, he need to learn how to repect his fellow man. Obama maybe black but he's a man just like he is. I'm sure they put on their pants the same way. And when he referred to Obama as "this one", I was definitely through. I wonder was it hard for him to say, Obama or Senator or Barack. Please don't hate.

Here Here! If only everyone would do their research and see that it is Clinton's fault! He is the one who put us in the mess we are in by making housing affordable to everyone. Don't blame who is in office, they are just dealing with the hand they were dealt. Go McCain!

Ok, it was all Bill Clinton's fault. Every horrible thing on earth was his fault. If you think that, get over it! I don't believe that myself, but also can't do anything about it. Bill Clinton isn't running for office if you forgot. We have a choice between a crazy, grumpy old man or a cool customer, thinker of a man. I think if any of you went for "stupid man" last time, it might be a good idea to go with an intelligent one this time. Just in case being young and intelligent is a plus. So, get over Bill Clinton and open your eyes to what will happen if McCain/Palin win the election. No one will be perfect, but I plan to vote for someone who understands what everyone is talking about. Not someone who changes the subject when things get a bit confusing for them.

Congress is trying to make Americans believe that this economic mess started with President Bush. Here is the truth... Jimmy Carter's Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) forced banks to lend to borrowers who the lenders knew could not pay the loan back. With this idiotic bill lenders HAD to give loans to these unvetted borrowers and lenders were urged (forced) to especially give loans to minorities.

Clinton, during his years as president, urged these loans to be given, even the the republicans in Congress warned against this in 1992. Clinton made changes to the bill that required lenders to make these loans, knowing the people could not pay them back. Banks and mortgage lenders who didn't listen to Clinton were viewed as racists. If they did not lend to these people who could not pay back the loans, then it was possible the lending institutions would not be allowed to expand their lending, merge with another company or build branches in other areas.

In 1993 Eugene A. Ludwig, chairman and chief executive officer of Promontory Interfinancial Network, and former U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, while working for Clinton, told the Senate Banking Committee "We have to use every means at our disposal to end discrimination and to end it as quickly as possible." The lending institutions had a CRA (community reinvestment act) rating. These ratings would show if the lenders were being "Fair" to minorities and giving loans. Then the government created Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would finance everything by purchasing all these risky loans from banks, then they would check them over, repackage them if necessary and make them commodites, being put out on the open market.

With this, subprime loans were given and hence the spiraling down of the housing market in our country and in general this economic mess we're in. Lenders that were forced to give homes to these borrowers now had millions of forclosures because these borrowers, who they knew couldn't pay loans back at the time they gave the loans, DIDN'T pay their loans back. Barney Frank lied about what was going on with Fannie and Freddie, saying everything was fine. Barney, in the meantime, was involved with a top guy at Freddie, so he wasn't going to do anything to hurt his lover or force more oversight. Guess what, the leftist media will never let the people know the truth.

Bush had nothing to do with any of this economic crisis or the Republicans. In 2003 Bush tried frantically to reign in Fannie and Freddie so that this crisis wouldn't happen. Bush tried to stop this, but the democrats in Congress said no. Barney Frank even went on the record to say that Fannie and Freddie are not facing any kind of financial crisis. At that time he was the top ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee (FSC).

In 2005 John McCain cosponsored a bill to make these agencies more transparent and to have more regulation. McCain said "If Congress does not act,American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole." This is on the record as to what he said. So it is very obvious who is in the middle of this economic crisis and it sure isn't President Bush or the republicans and definitely not McCain. Research your candidate people.

I got some swamp land here is Florida I want to sell to you, if you think I believe that crap!

This is a ridiculous idea that is going around the internet. You're trying to convince me that the problems go all the way back to Carter, 32 years ago?!? Carter and Clinton were so powerful that in the ensuing 8 years of Reagan + 4 years of Bush I + 8 more years of Bush II these issues with lending laws couldn't be changed? Couldn't be changed or wouldn't be changed?

Give me a break

Could someone please translate this "educated" incoherent gibberish into English?

Are you SERIOUS... You want to talk about uneducated? How about classless?! How about pathetic tactics at persuading people that someone is affiliated with terrorists... right... come on if you're going to make a descent effort at making a valid and TRUE arguement, look at your own tactics and then you can speak... But what more should we expect from someone as "uneducated" as yourself Fred...

hi FRED... if that is your real name...

glad to see that at least one knuckle-dragger has found his way onto the internets and googleyed his way over to C&R. hopefully after some period of time you will also....learn.

when W took office, and shortly thereafter, apologists claimed "he inherited this... he wasn't in office long enough..." IT HAS BEEN 8 YEARS... the man at the top IS responsible... not congress, not the courts... the BUCK (now worth 65 cents) stops RIGHT AT THE PRESIDENTS DESK. McSame, cut from the same cloth, backing the same policies, BUT with the Maverick (ERRATIC SPELLED SIDEWAYS) moves of his campaign--- SCARE PEOPLE. It scares WALLSTREET, MAIN STREET, and in my case VERDUGO AVENUE. His 2nd in command is a zealot NUTJOB.

REMEMBER TO VOTE... REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION ONLINE...

What a load of tripe. Robert Rubin, the pusher of Gramm-Leach-Bliley (The legislation that crated the s-called "Finacial Services industry") is Obama's Senior Economic Advisor.

Yep. A Crook and a Liar. Togetherness.

I wish Obama would have brought up how McCain advisors said that the economy wasn't important and were focusing on character assassination tactics, or KEATING FIVE.

Hell if Palin was brought up, I'd have attacked everything, including her daughter's first bastard child.

Vote in online "polls"?

I'd rather listen to these two idiots argue over whom is less corrupt, ad nauseam.

Hopefully he will warn those around him when he has a crisis in his adult undergarments.

Did McOldfart mention we should sell stuff on eBay?

my name is john THE BUSH REPUBLICAN mccain, speaking to you from here in house number 5. i will be driving to the debate in car number 7 in a couple minutes. the economy is strong. the beer industry is doing well, and cindy and i are comfortable--- thank you for asking. if i win the election, i plan to have CINDY and SARAH have a wet t-shirt contest every easter on the white house lawn... so remember NASCAR dads... A VOTE FOR ME IS A VOTE FOR SOME GIRL-ON-GIRL ACTION.
....my name is john THE BUSH REPUBLICAN mccain, and i lost my message

Seeing Obama give that dirty old man a spanking actually made me giddy.

Hearing that filthy, geriatric old liar ramble incoherently was a special bonus... President Obama, I love you.

In watching the post debate pundits, I'm amazed at the comments suggesting McCain somehow 'won' this debate. On every single issue, McCain's solution was 'I'll reach across the aisle and work real hard at developing solutions'. Same approach with EVERY QUESTION.

If anyone watching this debate is still undecided as to who is better qualified to be the next President, I would be amazed. This is no contest my friends; Obama should be up by 25 points before this is over.

Yes, he should be, but there are still plenty of bigots out there who will not vote for a black person for Prez. Hopefully, they're in a diminishing minority, and Obama will have a good two terms in office.

Agree. I believe many American will not vote for Obama just because he is black. Hope those American who is more mature will turn up and vote for Obama to cancel those. He is clearly to be a better President for the country and the world.

Yeah...he'll reach across the isle and work real hard, alright He couldn't even summon within himself that minimum amount of decency it would have taken to reach out and shake Obama's hand. You know Obama: "that one..."

About the only reaching I can be confident that McCain will be doing is the reach-around he will be giving to the banks and the corporations and the fascists on whose behalf he will undoubtedly be prostituting himself and his office.

will face a fork in the road.

To the right, more of the same.

To the left, real change.

While most Americans will probably cheer for him to take the path to the left, he'll take the path to the right (no matter what he says).

The reason is simple: The evil fucks who hold the real power in this country will not permit a challenge to their authority.

Get used to it. After the music stops, it will be more of the same.

Until and unless Americans get removed from their comfort zone, take matters into their own hands, and reclaim their government.

McCain also struck me as a confused old man; wandering around the stage, blocking the camera, blabbering on and on; and generally making no sense whatsoever. If this is the best the Repubs can do, Lord help them!

I dozed off just from watching him. My brain shut down. No doubt to spare me from the sight of it.

My friends... I believe in deregulating the regulators so they can regulate better, but without getting government in the way... that's what my hero, Ronald Reagan, taught me... government is bad... I'm gonna regulate the deregulators to keep those greedy Wall Street bankers at bay (even though they give me lots of dough)... ummm, forget the last part... that's what I'm gonna do, my friends. I spent five years with too much regulation, so I know its bad and I'm a maverick and maverick's hate regulation, so that's what I'm gonna do if I'm elected, unless Gen. Petraeus tells me otherwise.

........and I'll reach across the aisle and work real hard at making the changes I think are necessary, because my friends, that's what I've done for 26 years; I have the experience that only comes with being a POW,and I tell 'ya, I'm a Maverick; and I know how to get things done; and I'll deregulate everything that's ever been regulated, and........I have to go to the bathroom now.

haha....what really got me were the:

...I know how to _________ (fill in the blank with his typical rantings)...my friends, i know how to.... i know whats its like.....i've been there, rough place......

since when does telling people you know how to do something proof that you can actually do it? if you know how to catch bin ladin without going into pakistan, why haven't you done it? if you know how to win wars, why haven't we won the two wars we are in? sounds like a pile of elephant dung to me

PAHAHAHAHAH....morning coffee in my nose and on my keyboard....oh man...

in that vid on thinkprogress, mccain also says that the s&l and dotcom crashes also suprised him

he truly is an idiot, and corrupt to the core

in regards the dotcom crash, anyone with a brain could see that the dotcoms couldnt sustain themselves as most were based on paper....i was there....i saw what happened, and a year before the crash i knew something bad was going to happen

and we all know about keating

the fact that he can lie with impunity makes me ill

He is speaking from his heart and his beliefs.

THAT is why he is so scarey.

sorry to be off topic but the site's looking good now!

I still prefer the numbered comments...this layout just seems to confusing.

Me too! Can't we go back to the old format?

Agreed...I find the arrangement of the new comments very difficult to follow.

Anyway, yes, this 'my friends' business is incredibly lame and incredibly disingenuous. Notice that Bill O'Reilly does this frequently.

Yeah...I don't care for this format at all...

Yeah...I don't care for this format at all...

The Obama/McCain debates are the Kennedy/Nixon debate... but this time in color.

.....which the racists out there HATE!!

You knew it would be out there... check it out - "that one" t-shirts and hats. LOL!!!! http://www.cafepress.com/thatonestuff

Thank you for your work! :)

I heard this tonight and it's is not the most important election in my lifetime that was 2000 and we blew it we screwed ourselves for a long long time. Still this may be the second most important.

I think the person who can best beat McCain is McCain, since he has flip-flopped on so many issues. Sept 5 daily show had the flip-flops on Iraq being a cake-walk, Iraq being long and difficult, pro/anti Roe v. Wade. We've seen the "fundamentals of the economy are strong", whoops, suspending the campaign because of the economy. Palin flip-flops on the need for government regulation, in the same interview. One thing for sure is when Mccain said the "fundamentals of the economy are strong", he was either lying, and trying to dismiss the economy as a campaign issue, or he didn't have a clue about the economy.

The Republicans made a lot of hay on one flipflop with Kerry. McCain is a goldmine of flip-flops. A video could be effective.

Of course, the most important flip-flop of all - he was against the 1st debate before he was for it. ;-)

I had an epiphany. I no longer believe in capitalism. Because I realize that money and all monetary systems lead to corrupt institutions. Religions, governments, banks, media, courts, and every other institution are only there to 1) perpetuate themselves 2) oppress everyone else.

I have known for a long time that we have resources and (advanced enough) technology to have FREE energy, for instance there is enough geo-thermal energy available to last 4000 years at the current level.

Check out http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=70652...

And McCain didn't even see it coming.

That's the kind of change we can believe in, my friends! :)

I still prefer the numbered comments...this layout just seems to confusing.

There is a tiny box next to "Post New Comment."

Click on it and choose "Flat" and things will go back to normal. :)

You're assuming "normal" is the same for everyone! :)

Obama 08

YIPPIE

Go to the debate tape, start with Sen. Obama's Kennedy's reference, and end with "...it gets done."

As I recall, CNN's 'squiggly lines' went north, and it really is a nice, pragmatic message of hope and national pride.

It may not have been a knockout, but IMO it really was a beautiful and standout moment.

Anyone have a link for the transcript?

Missouri has now turned blue. The end is near. That means the revolting, lying, psychopathic republicans are going to be the wingnuttiest they have ever been. I think I will have to monitor the homestretch from the internet, in order to keep my blood pressure under control.

As the extinction of conservatism continues to gain steam, these loathsome subhumans are going to leave a legacy that no one with any brains will forget for decades. I for one, cannot wait to see our fair landscape purged of these sick SOB's. I never thought I could hate anybody as much as the modern day republican party. They are sick, evil bastards!

I enjoy watching a scared man stand in front of the American public and spit lies in an attempt to win votes. Lets be real people if you met these two candidates on the street and talked with each one for two minutes, who would you trust more as you walked away from that very encounter? To McCain: Try addressing the questions and concerns and stop the dancing around. Newsflash! It's not fooling anyone

i wouldve trusted the mccain thats on the politico vid or the mccain from 2000

it is beyond me that a man would sell his soul so as to have his name in the history books

Sell his soul. Buddy you need to do a little more research.

He definitely showed us where he stands.

The Drudge report and one other had McCain as the winner. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

WOW

The Obama kool-aide is flowing fast tonight. It is true that McCain warned everyone but the DEMS shot him down. Here take the time to read.

Lordy...it is like you're all in some kind of trance and you don't realise you're being had.

I don't like Prez Bush, but he didn't create the trillions of dollar debts and crashing of the banks. There were a lot of foolish people out there who thought they could buy a million dollar home on a beer budget. I like to blame Bush for a lot of crap, but this was the stupidity of the public. The Rep wanted regulations on these banks, but the Dems thought that wouldn't be democratic.

Look People....quit believe everything you hear on the TV and do a little research. Have a THOUGHT OF YOUR OWN

Sorry, dude, you are the one ignoring facts. The problem is the financial institutions luring people into mortgages they couldn't afford, knowing they'd be passing on those speculative investments to other financial institutions. It was a huge Ponzi scheme that ALL lenders participated in. And it is firmly rooted in a Republican Congress that didn't care about corporate responsibility.

"Luring"? People, it's your fault if you didn't read the mortgage contract or if you bought a house you couldn't afford. Your fault. Not the government's fault.

I guess the Dems are responsible for On December 16, 2003 President Bush signed the American Dream Downpayment Initiative into law.

You have got to be kidding. Like most low I.Q. repukes, you are able to ignore everything that is right under your nose, and spout some bullshit that a wingnut wrote because.......well, they wrote it! Where do people as stupid as you are come from?

I have lived through and followed ALL the deregulation that the repukes gave us that have caused this disaster. You are like the trouble-maker kid who always points at his little brother and says "he did it" everytime something goes wrong. Fuck you moron!

You see, the major thing about RESEARCH is to know the source...

Regarding that website you cite: this is a quote directly from it. Seeing as how McCain lies to his advantage whenever it suits him, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this "letter" that supposedly happened in 2005 just didn't happen the way it appears on this site.

"Though often a transcript of the debates on the House and Senate floors, like C-SPAN transcripts, the Congressional Record can be significantly modified by Members of Congress after the fact. Entries in the Congressional Record can reflect the edited, prepared versions of statements actually made on the floor, and on very rare occasions can contain seeming entire debates between Members of Congress that never took place."

I worked in the mortgage business. Find me ONE person that bought a 1 million dollar home on a beer budget and I'll sell you a bridge to nowhere. You are full of B.S.

Thanks, Davie. It's good to have the opinion of someone who was there when it went down.

Sorry, check the facts--GW took office national debt was 5.7 trillion, it is now 9.8, and the baillout bill raises the national debt ceiling to over 11 trillion. How and who pays this money back. This guy may have singlehandedly reduced the US to a second world country.

Good night all!!

.

Senator Johnny McCLueless is relying on the clueless to readily buy into Johnny's McCluelessness.

.

Katie Hamm asked the question. Here is my answer to McCain's claim that Obama said he'd attack Pakistan

I see no difference between Obama's saying, "we will take him out" and McCain saying "I'll get him {Bin Ladin} no matter what." Nowhere does Obama say "that he would attack Pakistan." What is the menaing of "no matter what?" Doesn't "no matter what" entail attacking Pakistan even though Obama has never said that?

I only took 3 things from this debate.
1) mccain is an extraordinarily good liar. It's amazing to see how easy it comes to him and speaks volumes about his character (or lack of).
2) Anyone who can say, let alone repeat several times, that reagan is their hero, does not have any grasp on what's happened in the last two weeks because of reaganomics, so mccain is either so out of touch with this reality or is certifiably insane and should be institutionalized.
3) Obama needs to find some way to get the message out that a government controlled health care system is more efficient and serves people better.

"getting the message out that a government controlled health care system is more efficient and serves people better" ..will be a tough sell!

from what I can see government is incapable of anything exept covering their own asses.

I dont think govt is "efficient" or serves the people very well at all!

I agree govt can not control any thing.

Did anyone else hear McCain wheezing at times during his turn to speak? The man is clearly ready for a dirt nap any day. I was also surprised he openly supported his favoritism of giving money to big corporations. After the 700 billion dollar bailout the CEO of Lehman brothers still took home 40 million dollars in his pocket while the employees were put out in the street to starve. McCain thinks that's fair to let these arrogant jerks get everything while we lose our homes and die from lack of health insurance? No chance of a better job either if you can't afford college. And Sarah Palin is supposed to be smart enough to take over for him in the event of his death, which obviously isn't too far away? I don't think so!

Yes, both my wife and I noticed that he was seriously out of breath and feared he might collapse right there on stage! We also noticed that he didn't hang around very long after the debate either. He was probably rushed backstage where he could receive oxygen to help him catch his breath.

After the big deal the media made of Al Gore's sighing back in 2000, it's rather shocking (although not very surprising) to see the MSM try to sweep McCain's gasping for breath under the carpet.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on McCain because he's old. I'm no spring chicken myself; but then again, I'm not running for president either. At his age, McCain's health is a valid concern, especially with his running mate, wingnut Barbie, waiting in the wings to continue the failed policies of George W. Bush.

now, let's be fair, even the democrats were against regulation a few yrs ago bec. of campaign contributions from fannie & freddy mac, while some republicans were for it.

wrong

Obama: Now I've got to correct a little bit of Senator McCain's history, not surprisingly

OUCH! like a muuuhhhgg!!!!!!

Anyone else notice the disproportionate number of "Thank you senator" from Brokaw after McCain's responses as compared to Obama? Much like the recently misleading outdated poll cited by Brokaw on MTP it suggests that he wanted to at least subconsciously suggest more credibility in McCain' answers to the viewers. Since I DVR'd it I'll go back and count them but at a rough guess it seemed be at around 5 to 1.

I think when it comes right down to things you can tell quite a bit from how someone carries themselves in a public debate as we have been seeing. When someone actually can be calm and offer intelligent and meaningful answers under as much pressure as anyone and still have that calmness and confidence in themselves, there is much to be said about that persons character and knowledge. If you know what the truth is, you have no reasons to be uncomfortable and visably agitated. Without knowing anything about the issues these people stand for, you can tell quite a bit about that person through body language, how one person addresses another person, how they speak and talk to one another and others. When it comes down to it, do we want someone around us who actually has empathy and real concern and that can actually address anyone without being emotive, visually nervous and unstable? Or, do we want someone around us that is nervous, cannot sit still and cannot clearly articulate their thoughts under pressure and when they cannot come up with the real answers resort to blame and name calling? I have seen the best person by the way they handle themselves physically and emotionally and are able to answer questions. No one is perfect because they are human, but which one is more human and therefore more caring and ultimately more trustworthy?

Amen to that!

Right on!!!!

Senator McCain isn't running as his own man in this campaign. He's running as a product of the Republican machine. As such he seems out of touch with his own platform and policies as well as his own campaign. His running mate looks to be campaigning for the top job for herself.

.

This an excellent post , I'm grateful to you , thanks a lot .

Did you notice how, after the debate, McCain left the arena rather quickly. Obama and michelle were working the crowd for at least 10 minutes after mccain left. I think he got tired and had to go take his nightime meds.

Also, McCain is getting a lot of press about this homeowner bailout idea - bob schieffer thought it was really big news. Others said it's just hype - it's already contained in the 700 bn bailout package. We'll need more info on this.

McCain said at one point that "social security was an easy fix" I must have missed something all the years that politicians have been rangling over this one. Another thing he is going to mass fix everything at one time.....Wow!! A magician!! Go Obama!!

I think it's very cute that both parties blame the other for the financial crisis. I mean, come on, what is government supposed to do? Walk around and look for crooks all day long? Go to each individual home and tell people not to spend every dime they have on stuff at Best Buy and Target? Tell America that they should actually read the fine print and understand the terms of the home loan they are getting? Should we have endless public service announcements on tv telling folks to watch out for unscrupulous people trying to sell you a house you should know you can barely afford? Or maybe the government should send you individual notices that your stock portfolio is looking a little dicey? I mean, why hold Americans responsible for their own stupidity? The government, GOP-controlled or Dem-controlled, should be there to hold your hand every step of the way.

Or maybe it's not all government's fault. And maybe we really don't want the government spending all day checking up on us to make sure we are ok, because, you know what?, we should be able to handle our own individual lives when it comes to purchases we make and where our post-tax money is going.

Well, I mean, I can. I've cut my spending, but I still pay a hefty sum to my ex and my kids to make sure they are ok. I understand that my 5-1 ARM is about up, so I'm getting ready to refinance. I'm paying off my credit cards left and right to free up money and to save. I'm laying off spending and switching to reading to educate myself. I'm a few steps ahead, it seems, of most people, and that probably because I'm actually paying attention to what is happening in my home and in this country and in the world.

What the hell is everyone else doing? I just don't get it. Most of what's happening to you is not the government's fault. It's yours. Fix yourself. Then let's go fix this disaster of a government we have.

((this message was paid for by Paved Paradise -- http://yourpavedparadise.blogspot.com))

1. People spend more money than they have because it is the smart thing to do when the government has been constantly debasing the currency, for the past 80 years! If you are saving today, you are handing about 10% of your entire saving to the crooks every year; 10% being the difference between the real infation rate around 12% and the 2% that you can get from a secure CD account; 2% being capped by the Federal Reserve target rate (lowered to 1.5% today! who are those imbeciles anyway and where are they getting the money to bid down the return on your real savings? It's called fiat! i.e. creating money out of thin air!)

2. People took out loans that they could not possibly pay back because the banks were handing out free money; banks were handing out free money because the government forced them to do that through the Community Reinvestment Act giving the so-called "community organizations" the power to extort from banks. If Al Capone were alive in the last couple decades, he'd be a community organizer.

3. Government sponsored GSE's, like Fannie and Freddie, were handing out money to the banks for them to take undue risks, creating a giant fiancial bubble. . . in order to fatten the wallets of government-connected wall-street insiders like James Johnson, former Lehman managing director and former CEO of Fannie (left with $21 million bonus for cooking books) before becoming top Obama adviser.

4. The Community Organizations-Banks-GSE complex also injected money into specific congressional districts in order to buy votes in the US House of Representatives . . . not to mention organizations like ACORN creating fake voters on the ground.

5. When all this nonsense coming crashing down, you the taxpayers and savers in other industries get to foot the bills.

6. The whole scenario is simply a replay on a grander scale of what happened in the 80's real estate bubble (in which McCain was involved, in case you think I'm only giving Obama a hard time). Any wonder why manufacturing industries in this country has been losing ground? When ponzi scams are puffing up, the financial industry can take home all the bonuses and pay their employees outsized rewards and bidding up all the necessities of life like housing in big cities; when the ponzi scams fail, all the other industries get to foot the bill. Any wonder why manufacturing industries can no longer retain talent and can not afford to pay workers in a competitive labor market where the financial industry robber barons are also recuiting? That's the fundamental reason why the US has been losing manufacturing industry in the last three decades! Government rip-off of all other industries to support and promote financial industry ponzi scams!

7. It also explains the enormously high CEO pay. The CEO's are paid for their relationships inside the government! Government regulation and intervention in the market place are the exact reason why CEO's are worth so much money to companies: what else can explain Franklin Delano Raine's $130 million pay, except for all the politicians that he had bought? Crony capitalism (i.e. the worst socialism/fascism) alway result in high executive-to-worker pay ratio . . . because when the free market is replaced by person connections and the government's gun barrels, the average workers are reduced to peons that are of little idividual value to the feudal lords.

Barak Obama said,: "I wrote to Secretary Paulson, I wrote to Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke and told them this is something we have to deal with and nobody did anything about it. A year ago I went to Wall Street and told them we have to re-regulate, and nothing happened."

I remember Ron Paul saying some things but I dont seem to remember Obama giving any warnings that this was gonna happen!

Dear Senator Obama, please post copies of the letters that you wrote to Bernanke and Paulson on your website....or some video footage of you "going to Wall street" telling them they have to re-regulate.

as Stephen Colbert would say ...back up your statements...

McCain is arrogant, rude, condescending, and says nothing when he speaks. He is not looking or behaving like someone who is presindential material. It's time for him to go the way of the dinosaur.
The length of the campaign is telling on him and he appears to be aging before our eyes.

Paulin continues to reveal how dumb she really is. She needs to go back to being a hockey mom. She is hurting McCain more than helping him with her annoying comments which she thinks are funny.

I hope we will not let race be a factor in this election. Our country cannot endure either McCain or Paulin.

She is no Hockey Mom. When the other kids were playing hockey in the white elephant rink she insisted Wasilla go deep into debt for, her little man was vandalizing school buses. And I don't mean spray painting graffiti or breaking windows. More like endangering lives by cutting brake lines. Google it.

something wicked this way comes and i want to do bad things with you, words to live by

thiers no money , thier is no money thiers not going to be any money thiers never going to be any money, for programs for us, we have to get bin ladden , must get bin ladden before that special day can be avenged even if they have to kill every man woman and child in afganistan ,must get bin ladden then we can start to er ah heal?

Thus, our future is bleak, and unavoidable.

According to the rules of Bushspeak: If you repeat something often enough, it becomes the truth.

I'm done. I've made calls, wrote letters, put up signs, and worked hard so that my daughter would have the freedom of choice, independence, and basically living the American dream. Most of all, I wanted her to be safe. I believe with all my heart that Senator McCain is the right man for the job.

I do not want to live in a socialistic country. I think that it is scary that the American people would love to have the government control us. Is this what our founding fathers imagined?

This country was founded on freedom. Many men and women have died for this country. Democrats have always wanted something for nothing. Didn’t people come to this country for what we have. They left other countries to get away from the socialistic views of their governments. They wanted the same freedoms Americans have. The right to choose and the right to own their own businesses without government interference.

No more calls for me, no more letters, signs, etc. I give up.

What hurts me the most is that I feel like I've failed my daughter, and for that, I'm very sad.

The American people don't want Government to control "us" and Democrats don't want something for nothing. We want Government to control the criminal actions of plutocrats and thuggish corporations when they pollute our environment, steal our retirement savings, and avoid paying any taxes like us little people. For our investment in Government we want to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. When President Obama rights this ship of state, we won't hold your misguided views against you or your daughter (Freedom of choice? really? are you that obtuse?) and you can always leave if you don't like having health insurance for everyone and a solvent Social Security system, you know that "Socialistic" stuff. So CHEER UP, better days are coming!

For years, I was a fan of John McCain. I had bought into the whole war hero mythology and sympathized with the terrible suffering he endured at the hands of the North Vietnamese. Largely for that reason, I forgave him for his transgressions in the Keating scandal, as well as his ongoing reputation for volatility. But, in the last two years my opinion of the man has nose-dived and, after watching his performance in last night's debate, I'm convinced that he wasn't just physically damaged by his wartime experience. There's obvious emotional trauma going on. Every time I heard him begin a statement with "my friend" I felt as though he was masking contempt for the audience and struggling to conceal his anger about Obama's rising popularity. McCain's body language was rigid, neurotic and mechanical, and his smiles were more like grimaces. When it came to looking at his opponent, his disdain was embarrassingly overt. For some reason, he seems to hate Barack Obama. He's been in politics too long to take any of this personally, so one has to wonder where all the rage is coming from. I must conclude that anger is a fundamental part of John McCain's temperament. Neither of these candidates has a crystal ball and can predict what will be required of them by the time they take the oath of office. We've all seen how radically things can change in just the last two weeks. Being too specific about solutions now would just be pandering to voters' needs for answers. What I looked for in the debate was intelligence, calmness and conciseness, which are all key leadership qualities. McCain didn't have any of them last night. He was angry, socially inept and, to be frank, he was a rude son of a bitch to the Obama's. This is not a man who is capable of "reaching across the aisle," despite his mantra in these debates.

If you read McCain's bio on www.rollingstone.com, it is pretty easy to understand why McCain comes across as angry, grumpy and "erratic".

1. Mr. McCain wants the title of "Commander in Chief" which would outrank his father and grandfather's accomplishments in the service. Those titles elluded McCain because he was such a screw up in his military career.

2. Mr. McCain's childhood was from a "well to do" family. He was a spoiled brat that always got his way, even in the military with his father bailing him out of his "antics". McCain's career in the senate also does not show him "reaching across party lines" for "country first". His preception by his colleagues is that McCain is selfish, arrogant, insulting, manupilative, womanizer, and only for HIMSELF.
A maverick yes. A reformer no!

3. Mr.McCain is an angry Vietnam veteran from a war we did not win. That bothers him and is reflected throughout his speeches of "winning" or "victory" or "bomb bomb bomb Iran". He would rather have conflict versus diplomacy and peace.

4. Although I could make many more points, and believe me this post would be 4 pages long, the most frustrating issue McCain has is that this is probably his last shot at running for President. He has "turned the page" from discussing the critical issues America wants hear to a vile, character assassination of his opponent and evoking more fear in country. Remember, McCain clearly stated in the beginning of his campaign that he did not want a smear campagin as others had done.

What this barracuda of attacks is inciting from some of their crowds are hateful words toward Obama. "Terrorist" "KILL HIM". I heard those words "live" from 3 of Palin's stump speeches these past few days. McCain is walking a very "fine line" here. We know he has made slurs against the vietnamese in his day, calling them "gooks". However, has he stooped so low now to incite those "people who are racists" to get a vote or to remove his opponent from office if he does succeed to be the first BLACK President of the United States? Or is McCain truely a racist at heart? It makes you think why would he stoop so low...hmmmmm.

McCain is a selfish, angry old man who will view himself as a failure in his family not to obtain Commander in Chief, but also to lose to a Black man.

Mr. McCain time for you to retire and slink off to one of your 13 homes. You are not "Country First" and America knows it.

My new nickname for McCain is T-Rex. He walks around a little slumped over with his arms out and tiny hands in a claw shape. He was scooting around on stage like an old dinosour. Or as Palin puts it "jesus ponys"

Some people point out that McCain's posture and stiffness are the result of the injuries he incurred during his captivity. No doubt, what was done to him during the torture sessions in Hanoi contributed to his hunched shoulders and overall rigidity. But I also think his temperament has played a key role in shaping his body language. He is a tense man who seems incapable of sitting still. But his facial expressions tell the biggest story. When he's not wearing the forced grin, his jaw is tightly clinched and he speaks without moving his teeth. The heavy, bunched muscles in his cheeks come from a lifetime of this behavior. Neither his father, nor his grandfather share this characteristic, so I have to believe it is of McCain's own making. He's an angry, volatile man, with an startingly limited intellect. I don't consider this to be bashing McCain at all. The man's reputation in the Senate as a bully with a temper has been well documented, even by Senators on his side of the aisle, and his dismal academic background is also a matter of record. We saw all of this coming together on that stage last night, as McCain shuffled around in the background while Obama was responding to questions. Disappointing that so many people believe this man would make a good president.

ROFL...

Hope I can get that picture out of my head now!

Pretty interesting stuff. Apparently he caused the death of many, many men to save himself. What a hero.

If you think McCain lied then what is in this video should change your mind, that is if CNN has the guts to post my comment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs&fe...

Obama's top ecomomic adviser sat on Capitol hill and said there was no need to regulate Fannie and Freddie. What a joke all of you are portraying that Bush or McCain are to blame for this mess. It sits on Congress. They had a chance to avert disaster and instead call Republicans liars and that they were trying to make a problem where there was not one. I am all for a handup but it is the HANDOUT that Obama wants to give everyone that put us in the mess to begin with. CNN, start telling the truth.

Anyone who votes for LIAR duo McCain/Palin is not a good human being.America is going down the drain and McCain and Palin will only ensure it gets to the bottom.... fast.Wipe the color from your eyes and vote sensibly.Sentiments will not pay your mortgage, medical insurance or buy you gas.Think.

OBAMA...stay on message... still doing well... the republicans are still coming up with "PALIN: The Odd-Ass-ity of Dope" and "MCCAIN: Reagan, the jellybean years"

WHEEZING!

He most certainly was wheezing during this second debate. Why isn't the media picking up on this?
