Second, when I heard the few second video "snippets" of his sermons, I did not disagree with what he was saying, and they were in no way unAmerican.
I never heard anyone saying that Pat Roberston or Jerry Fallwell were unAmerican in their hateful statements about gays in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.
Third, which is is for God's sake? Is Obama a Muslim or does he have a crazy preacher? It's neither to me, but it should be one or the other for ignorant folks like you.

I'm a Christian, but I STRONLY feel that religion should be left out of our politcal process just like the founding fathers of this country believed and legislated for.

The founders NEVER meant for Christian principles and Biblical values to be separated from the state. That is a revisionist view of our American history. The last time I checked I did not see the "red letter" system in the Greek text of the New Testament. Michael "Savage" is a false name. He changed his real last name because it didn't sound very good for radio. Michael Savage's real last name is "Weiner". I wonder, is that pronounced "Weeener", or "Whiner"? Either way, it doesn't sond much like his radio personna, although calling someone a "Savage" (You big savage) isn't really a term of respect either. The guy is a seriously insecure, frightened little man who has a job in which he can lash out at all the people who make him feel that way.

Basically, there is an ad running that says the same thing, that ministers would be sued or prosecuted for not conducting gay marriages.
Lots of Yes on 8 signs, actually banners, in surrounding areas of where I live in CA. I was on my way to Ojai the other day and went through Casitas Springs - lots of them there, along with McCain-Palin and Tony Strickland yard signs.
There are also a lot of gun shops and liquor stores there too.
These people are turning things upside down.

I was at the corner store here in my nook of San Francisco when that ad appeared on the television. The store owners and customers all watched in horror.
The thrust of the ad is that kids will have to learn to respect gay marriage as equal. It's all part of their zero-sum version of Orwellian freedom. If we have the freedom to marry, then they won't have the freedom to practice a religion that believes we shouldn't have the freedom to marry.
Sorry, bigots, but liberty isn't zero-sum. It's either equal for everyone or non-existent.

I've heard the same ads on 1070 AM in Los Angeles. Typical deceptive campaign. Trot out a bunch of things that won't happen, but will frighten enough people.
I work for a public school, and have friends that work for other school districts in CA. Don't think for a minute that this stuff won't happen because it already is! It's definitely not a deceptive ad, it's all true! The homosexual agenda will be pushed on everybody regardless of what peoples religious beliefs are and parents will have no right to object. The public (government run) schools will have more control over the children then the parents! The ads against Prop 8 are the ones that are deceptive because Prop 8 does NOT take away any rights or benefits from gay or lesbian domestic partners. Under California's domestic partner laws (Family Code Section 297.5) they have rights and benefits identical to those of spouses. Prop 8 restores the definition of marriage. God himself is the author of marriage. It's meaning is written in the very nature of man and woman as they come from the hand of the Creator.

This always reminds me of a post that was on C&L about a month ago where someone said America would never vote for a "mulatto". I was utterly repulsed.

A fine example of the disconnect of these Amerikkans is "Joe the Plumber" who in an interview I was watching mentioned he was against Social Security because he would rather be responsibile for his own retirement. This is the individualism that many of these Amerikkkans love to project. But only a few sentences later he states his pride in our bringing "freedom" to Iraq. There is no thought on his part regarding the fact that the indivdualism of the Iraqi people might not want another country interferring in "their" affairs. I just returned from the Obama rally under the Gateway Arch here in St. Louis on a gloriously beautiful day with mild temperatures, high white, sporadic clouds and 100,000+ extraordinarily intelligent people.
For those of you who don't know St. Louis, it has been an immensely racially polarized city for a long, long time. Riding the packed MetroLink train to the riverfront, we were all one, black and white, excited, chattering together, just thrilled at the turnout. When we arived at the Eads Bridge Station and saw the huge crowds already gathered on the street below, the cars erupted with cheers and hugs. We piled out, descended the stairs and waited patiently for 2 hours to get into the Arch grounds. As each train pulled into the station above us, the same cheering erupted.
According to the story below from a local St. Louis station, this was the largest Obama rally ever, perhaps the largest for any US presidential candidate anywhere. It certainly dwarfed all the others I've ever seen here before, including Bill Clinton's in 1992.
Standing in the middle of Wharf street, seeing my whole town together brought tears to my eyes, as it did to a black woman about my age next to me. it really looked like the whole city was there. Finally, we were all together, at peace, friends, neighbors, a full community.
And best of all, it was completely open - no checkpoints, no menacing paranoid party aparachiks checking to see if you were a local party member. Although I didn't see any McCainites, they could have come if they wanted to and they could have gotten in.
Missouri is a very conservative state - having the largest rally ever here in St. Louis is a good omen.
On the train home I spoke with an african-american woman who had just gotten off work witht he election commission. She was exhausted - they have a lot of work to do because there are so many new voters. All these young people, I asked?
No, some of these people haven't voted in their entire life - some of them are 90 years old (!!) and see this as the election they finally see a reason to vote in. She implied that they were registering as democrats. For any of you who live in the St. Louis area, the election commission has paid positions - they need people to process election registrations - the job has just gotten too big to handle in-house.
Gotta go, I'm going to apply on-line to volunteer on election day.

She said it was absolutely amazing. And to think that 100,000 people came down even though the main east/west highway in St. Louis is closed for construction. Imagine how many more would have come if they weren't put off by that fact. We'd have had another 25-50 thousand.

How amazing it must have been to be there. You beat our record, we had 80,000 here in Portland so I know that feeling of being part of something so large and so important. For a couple of hours we weren't separate individuals with white faces, black faces, brown faces, yellow faces, young faces, old faces. Barack Obama made us one that day, with a common goal and love of our country and I will never in my life forget that experience.

At this point the Republicans had both Houses of Congress, the Presidency and a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for six of the past eight years. Did they even attempt to repeal Roe v.Wade? Of course not. If they did, they wouldn't get all these people working for them every election cycle and sending their "Pro-Life" candidates campaign contributions. So it's actually not in their best interest to ever repeal Roe V.Wade. Can't understand why these people haven't been able to figure this out since forever.
I have been saying the exact same thing for a long time. They do nothing about it because they would no longer have a big stick to hit the Dems over the head with. I believe the Dems would be better off if they would talk about this issue in terms of the government not interfering in everyone's lives. Isn't that what most repugs gripe about?

My sister-in-law mainly supported the GOP because of the abortion issue. I took the same approach you did in pointing out the fact that the GOP did absolutely nothing to repeal Roe V. Wade. After explaining this to my sister-in-law, she looked at me and said that I asked a very good question. A week later she told me she will be voting for Obama even though she does not agree with his view on abortion. She said the state of the economy and rising costs of living and unemployment could actually make the abortion option look more appealing to pregnant women.
People who conflate faith in a politician with their faith in Christ are, by their very nature, gulible and psychologically need a dictator/king to tell them what to think, feel and do.

And there's the implicit suggestion that murdering babies characterizes Muslims. I tried to think of instances of babies being specifically murdered. My knowledge of history isn't great, but this is what I came up with, and they were all Christians doing it:

Again, a Christian, and one supported and funded by US right-wing Christian, Ronald Reagan.
I'm sure there are more but that's all I can think of right now. Christians as recently as the 15th century were accusing Jews of killing babies, creating a hysteria which led to pogroms and the expulsion of Jews from Spain.
