[TEHRAN BUREAU] I say, I don’t accept him as my president. I haven’t accepted him for the past four years, and I don’t accept him for the next four years.
You say, he has drawn 24 million votes (out of 42 million); he is now the legitimate president of the country.
I say, this sounds like a re-run of the last election. You have cheated again on the votes; he couldn’t possibly have drawn 24 million votes.
You smack me on the head with a baton.
I have many friends who say you have done the same thing. You shot one of them in the heart, you shot a pregnant woman in the abdomen; you killed at least 19 people for protesting your fraudulent elections.
I say, all right, I’ll just go home and mind my own business. That is what I’ve done all my life. You were the one who encouraged me to vote.
You say, that is because we want to show the world that this is a democracy, that people turn out en masse to vote; this will legitimize our republic.
I say, how can it legitimize your republic when you cheat on such a massive scale?
You take out a gun and threaten to kill me.
I say, o.k., o.k., I’ll just go home and fix dinner. How about ash-e kashk with a long baguette? I mean, who wanted a democracy anyway? The country was ruled by a king for 2,500 years. (At least then we had a queen we could ogle.) If you had just told me that you were a king in a black turban, I would have just accepted it; I don’t know.
You see, I don’t even trust in your wisdom. A spiritual guardian is supposed to be wise. I say, not only do I not accept the president, but I don’t even accept the valiy-e faqih.
You don’t want to talk about that because it is written in the constitution that the country is to be ruled by a valiy-e faqih, who is commander in chief of the armed forces, and who has the final word on foreign policy, who never wants to improve relations with the United States (because that would weaken his position — if he didn’t have an enemy, who could he blame for everything?)
I say, why don’t we make a deal? You rule the country according to your interpretation of the Qur’an and Nietzsche’s idea of the will to power, and I will listen to Michael Jackson.
Then you will have a nation to rule, while I will stop being insulted by a turbaned king who cheats me, lies to me, beats me with a stick, and then calls for unity.
Which says a lot.
or some other neurologic disease and the story is he had a psychotic episode triggered by outrage at seeing a driver whip his horse. Nietzsche was one of the great thinkers and writers of the 19th century and absolutely no friend of oppressive regimes despite attempts after his death to twist his writing to make it appear so (please see my comment below).
In retrospect I've wondered why Ahmadenijad and the Ruling Mullahs encouraged people to come out for the election, if they were planning to steal the election.
From the videos the mood in Tehran before the election was electric, and at the time I wondered what would happen when/if they tried to put that genie back in the bottle.
Did the powers-that-be miscalculate the numbers, the emotion, the spirit of hope?
Or did they cynically invite all those who wanted change to come out to expose themselves to the clampdown?
More likely they took advice from 'boy genius' Karl Rove...
the U.S.A. says they want everyone to vote except the poor and the minority because they think we are stupid. In some cases, they are right, they change the vote on the electronic machine you were told you can count on for an accurate count and expect you to accept it.
I don't think Ahmadinejad or Khamenei knew how the vote was going to go. They deceived themselves into thinking they were more popular than they are, and it took them by surprise. The ineptness of the vote count -- Mousavi and various newspapers were apparently informed that he had won before the result was revoked -- point to them not being prepared for a loss.
because they wanted to show the world what a great "democracy" Iran has. They were going to brag about 85 percent voter turnout but took no chances and rigged the elections. They were never worried about losing, no matter how many people voted against them. Only they didn't expect the people to react the way they did and they certainly didn't anticipate another revolution. They turned it into a revolution with their reaction to the protests.
I can't stress enough how important the the outcome of this situation is. I'm telling you, if the people who are revolting win, the world will be a much different place. The Iranian people love America and Americans. They are the most pro-American population in the Middle East.
by grouping him with these guys. You can't understand his philosophy just from the titles of his books or a few aphorisms you might hear taken out of context (he often wrote ironically and with a desire to shock people in order to get them to think). Nietzsche was no fan at all of totalitarian regimes. One of the great friendships of his life was with Richard Wagner. When Wagner started to embrace facist anti-semitic movements in Germany (the movements which eventually turned into Nazism) Nietzsche not only broke with Wagner but wrote some his most scathing, hateful prose about the evil of such movements both for the individual and the German nation. Its true that the Nazis took him and twisted his words to make him appear as one of them but nothing could be further from the truth. His concept of an uber-mensch and the will to power were more about self mastery, not about dominating other people. In fact a true uber-mensch has no need to dominate others.
New Budget Estimate Of Public Plan Proves It Lowers Cost
And Covers More Americans

Global Warming is happening much faster than it has been reported to us ! Mankind only has another 50 years to live unless drastic action is taken NOW. RIGHT NOW PEOPLE ! And Cap and Trade is not enough. The human population must be reduced by 50% before the year 2020. People in 3rd world countries have no value. They are not productive. They are not happy and they are endangering the survival of the whole human race. We, the United States of America have the military power. We have the chemicals. China has used draconian measures to bring down her population growth, and it has worked.
Between now and 2040 or 2050, the US and China will each add approximately the same number of people - the US expanding from some 300 million to 450 million, China from just over a billion to just fewer than 1.2 billion.
That's impressive enough in itself. But even more impressive is the fact that while the US population will continue to grow at a rather rapid rate after 2050, China's population will instead begin to decline.
Destabilized governments, economic warfare tactics, and targetd biological weapons.
Thats how the West is winning in Africa.

A look back in history...
OFFICIALS MUM ON ROBERTSON DIAMOND MINE OPERATION PROBE
A yearlong investigation of televangelist Pat Robertson's activities in Africa is now over, but state officials are sitting on the final report pending a review by attorneys, reports the Virginian-Pilot newspaper. The probe focused on possible inappropriate activities involving Robertson's Operation Blessing outreach, and a private corporation he operated known as the African Development Co. Based in Zaire, the firm was established by Robertson during the rule of the late dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.
The two men established close ties, and Mobutu wined and dined Robertson during one visit to the country; ADC also received vast forestry and mineral concessions, but the diamond mining operation eventually went bankrupt. Mobutu, after a quarter-century of iron fisted rule, died last year in exile from cancer. He left Zaire bankrupt and impoverished, and since 1994 had even been considered persona non grata in the United States. ♦ ♦ ♦
Global warming? So far this summer it has been under 90, mostly chilly at night, it's 66 right now, a forecast high for 80 and a low tonight of 60. central PA. Last decade was smoking hot and humid even at night. Is it chemtrails? I notice west coast is smoking hot, what the hell happened?
Weather is what happens in the short term.
Climate is what happens over the long term.
Oh, you didn't make it thru 6th grade? That explains it....
Just like most rightwingnutters you try to inflict your 'truth' on people who don't like you, who think you are nuts, who would be happy if you volunteered to lead the reduction of people on the planet and went first.

Why do they hate the America so !
They don't really love America, they love private enterprise.

Citi raises card rates on millions
How could they possibly be more in-your-face about it?
raising my and many others rates to 30 per cent and more
im incensed
2 years with wamu, never a raise
2 months with chase (who took over wamu) and bam...my rate gets raised
and they blamed me
increasing interest rates too decrease interest rates?
PS. Don't blame the kids, blame the parent, Chase is the consumer and commercial banking division of JPMorgan Chase. Well maybe not... it's hard to keep track. :-/
The Bank of New York – founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton, who became George Washington’s Treasury Secretary – was the first commercial bank in New York City. It had no competition until 1799 when Hamilton’s political rival, Aaron Burr, a U.S. Senator and future vice president of the United States, founded The Bank of The Manhattan Co. JPMorgan Chase traces its beginnings to Burr’s fledgling institution.
(Not to be confused with [Morgan Stanley], though they are somewhat related)... "The corporation, formed by J.P. Morgan & Co. employees Henry S. Morgan (grandson of J.P. Morgan), Harold Stanley and others, came into existence on September 16, 1935." It's hard 2 keep track
"JPMorgan Chase & Co. is built on the foundation of more than 1,000 predecessor institutions that have come together over the years to form today’s company. Our many well-known heritage banks include J.P.Morgan & Co., The Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank One, Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., Chemical Bank, The First National Bank of Chicago and National Bank of Detroit, each closely tied in its time to innovations in finance and the growth of the United States and global economies."

Pine needles, ants and other insects are a pain in the where ever they touch. On the beach, sand and sand fleas, oh my gawd.
Once when we were night beach fishing, we had a lantern hanging off the wooden groyne, anyway we suddenly noticed many hundred sand fleas all crawling up the wooden groyne towards the light, when they got close they fell off to the sand below, rinse repeat.
It was like a scene from some horror movie, part of the myriad life that roam beaches at night scavenging debris.
Flea circus and were just attempting to get back under the spotlight? ;)

Excerpt from an excellent DU post. Dear Freeptards;
You do not belong in politics, you belong in a sports arena watching a game, wearing facepaint, drinking beer, and getting into fights over issues that do not ultimately affect the lives of millions of people at a time.
Last night I said that Ed was doing a good job as far as the healthcare issue. I got a lot of negatives from others here but, today Ed had an interview with Bernie Sanders who praised Ed for the job he is doing. Look, I don't always agree with Ed and there is probably nobody that I will agree with all the time as you might witness here at C&L. I do know that Ed is on the side of the worker and single payer or public option.

..........nothing to see here, move on. Elsewhere on the net today it seems that Goldman has been a part of every financial mess since 1920, and probably before that. Don't worry, they will walk away with OUR $$$$$$ laughing, fit, 'respectable',
I wish so called progressives would lay off the Sanford snark -- he deserves to get booted but he has a wife and family. This childish humor is about as funny as the obviousness that masquerades as wit these days. It's as funny as an Andy Borowitz piece in the Fluffpo, which his to say, not funny at all unless your idea of comedy is reversing everything into easy snark ("Today Obama declared war on his cigarettes.") blah blah blah
Oh, and please, more liberal gun apologists.
Who will be all too glad to see the back of his crass Republican ways.
Remember that is not the first time he ran off like a love lorn teen to be with his girlfriend, and according to that interview with Mrs. Sanford, he had the gall to ask her for permission to go off on his date.
Immature and pathetic to boot, very embarrassing for old money when hubby goes publicly nuts over a bimbo.
WE should keep the wife in kids in mind. Somebody needs to because it's obvious Sanford didn't.
By the way, if he'd shut up about finding a 'soul mate' who isn't his wife, it would probably help his situation.
And he should resign, not for the affair but for leaving the State and not informing anyone how to reach him.
And it's called satire, not snark. If you don't know the difference, Colbert and Stewart do satire. Ann Coulter is nothing but ugly snark.
Do you work in Sanford's office or are you a hired consultant? Either way, spare me the weepy whine fest.
Not only is Sanford a creep who deserves every ugly thing that's happening to him, he's a certifiable moron who doesn't know when to shut the hell up! For that alone he deserves to be made fun of...also, it's not our fault that his wife chose to marry such a simple-minded, self-absorbed, weakling of a man.
How about if Sanford thought about all that before he went "hiking" and then took every opportunity to stand in front of a microphone and compare himself to King David, and tell us the gory details of his smitten heart.
The douchbag deserves to be ridiculed endlessly. He did it all himself. What about his respect for his wife and children: start with him, not us.

i had a most unusual dream. the ghost of aleister crowley visited mount misery and took a ghost dump on don rumsfeld's favorite oriental rug.
there the ghost turds remained, glowing blue like a fallen jedi, giving off the most putrid, otherworldly stench rummy had ever whiffed.
in a rage, rummy shot and killed his favorite german shepherd. the rest of his dogs then devoured the old man, leaving only a pile of bones for his wife to discover.
then, the dream repeated twice; first with roger ailes in place of rummy, next david rockefeller.

Climate Change & Water: TRADITION AND SCIENCE: ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE ON EAST AFRICAN MOUNTAINS - http://www.africafiles.org/printableversion.a...
This article examines the environmental changes to water resources on the slopes of East African mountains, specifically Mount Kilimanjaro. These fragile ecosystems host a higher population density than corresponding lower lands and plains. Most water used in East Africa for domestic, agriculture and hydro-power generation originates from these mountain ecosystems.
For a long period of time, stream and river flows from the slopes of these mountains have been perennial. In recent decades, however, water flow from these mountain ecosystems has become intermittent, flowing only during rainy seasons.

America's Senator! Bernie Sanders Demands Democrats Commit To Stopping Health Care Filibuster - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/01/bern...
"I think that with Al Franken coming on board, you have effectively 60 Democrats in the caucus, 58 and two Independents," Sanders said in an interview with the Huffington Post. "I think the strategy should be to say, it doesn't take 60 votes to pass a piece of legislation. It takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster.
I think the strategy should be that every Democrat, no matter whether or not they ultimately end up voting for the final bill, is to say we are going to vote together to stop a Republican filibuster. And if somebody who votes for that ends up saying, 'I'm not gonna vote for this bill, it's too radical, blah, blah, blah, that's fine.'"
"I think the idea of going to conservative Republicans, who are essentially representing the insurance companies and the drug companies, and watering down this bill substantially, rather than demanding we get 60 votes to stop the filibuster, I think that is a very wrong political strategy," Sanders added.
A shining example that not all politicians are bad...if we could clone him 59 times, this world would be a much better place....
New Budget Estimate Of Public Government Opiton Health Ins. Plan Proves It Lowers Cost And Covers More Americans - http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/01/new-cbo-s...
The plan carries a 10-year price tag of slightly over $600 billion, and would lead toward an estimated 97 percent of all Americans having coverage, according to the Congressional Budget Office, Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and Chris Dodd said in a letter to other members of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
The [employer mandate] provision is also estimated to greatly reduce the number of workers whose employers would drop coverage, thus addressing a major concern noted by CBO when it reviewed the earlier proposals.
The incoming president of the American Medical Association, Dr. J. James Rohack, said his organization now supports a public plan, after initially indicating its opposition. The AMA supports an “American model” that includes both “a private system and a public system, working together,” he said.
Every other industrialized power has single payer or some variation of that...and it works, only morons who have never been to these nations to investigate its pros & cons are against it...simple as that.

Al Franken's a Senator, No Joke. But What Kind? - http://blog.buzzflash.com/analysis/845
Senate leadership has reserved a spot for Franken on the Judiciary Committee. That committee will start their hearings on July 13 for President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor, and they hope to have her seated before the August recess.
Franken also has a spot slated on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which has been working on the well-publicized healthcare overhaul that has taken multiple weeks, and will probably take many more. They're expected to finish July 10, giving Franken the opportunity to give his thoughts and opinions on that important issue.
On education, Franken wants to work on college tuition and student loan repayment, as well as *******eliminating No Child Left Behind****** (THANK GOD!!!!) and increasing the quality of schools.
As for labor, Franken is a member of four labor unions himself, so he wants to help the labor parties to both form and get things done, enforce fair trade policies and guarantee retirement benefits.
Franken's hero is the late Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone. Wellstone was the most progressive senator of his time, and a true man for the people. If Franken aspires to be anything like Wellstone, he's got to start trying to fill those boots right away.
We need to keep him fighting like Wellstone did, let him know when he's wrong and thank him, when he's right.

Judge Overturns Bush Administration Logging Rule - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/01/judg...
A federal judge has struck down the Bush administration's change to a rule designed to protect the northern spotted owl from logging in national forests. U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken ruled from Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday that the U.S. Forest Service failed to take a hard look at the environmental impacts of changing the rule to make it easier to cut down forest habitat of species such as the spotted owl and salmon on 193 million acres of national forests.
"I am hopeful that this is the last nail in the coffin to (President George W.) Bush's assault on our public forests," said Pete Frost, an attorney for the Western Environmental Law Center in Eugene, which represented plaintiffs in one of two cases challenging the rule.
