Hardball: Democrat Alan Grayson Tells Dick Cheney To STFU

(Video courtesy of Rep. Grayson's YouTube page)

Former Vice President Dick Cheney appeared on Fox News earlier this week, and as usual, he couldn't resist denigrating President Obama. Wednesday, Democrat Alan Grayson appeared on Hardball and when asked for his response to Cheney's absurdity, he had a short, and not-so-sweet message for Dick:

Matthews: ..."How far is this guy gonna go so he gets to speak at the next Republican convention? Dick Cheney is unbelievable lately!"

Grayson: I don't know, you know, on the internet there's an acronym that's used to apply to situations like this, it's STFU. I don't think I can say that on the air, but I think you know what that means."

I couldn't have said it better myself. I must admit that I'm jealous of Rep. Grayson getting the opportunity to say those words on national teevee. Matthews turns the discussion to the right wing hissy fit over President Obama following tradition and bowing to the President of Japan and Grayson came back with this:

..."I remember Bush Jr. kissing Prince Abdullah on the cheek and then holding his hand for an extended period of time. Maybe if he let him get to second base then gas would be a dollar a gallon."

Actually it could be said better, by not employing the acronym, but rather the full expression.

I think we need more Alan Grayson's, but he's got to be more productive with his time in the camera than he was here. He picks up no points, but from those from this site and others like this one.

There are people out there who need to hear this opinion, too. This can only help, as the more he says, the angrier the Republiks get. That's a good thing.

Near the beginning of the interview Tweety asked a question and Representative Grayson attempted to finish his thought; instead Tweety talked right over top of it.

It's hard for anyone to respond when Machine-gun-mouth Matthews has to blather over your words.

I remember a guy named Paul Wellstone who told Cheney he was going to vote "No" on the Iraq War and Cheney told him, "If you don't support us in this we will get you. We will hurt the state of Minnesota."

Then a few weeks before Wellstone was due to be re-elected to the Senate where he could continue to be a thorn in Cheney/Bush's side....

Google it.

Wellstone's family even asked Cheney to stay away from the memorial service.

And what did we get? Norm Coleman.

Thank God we now have Al Franken in Wellstone's saddle.

for getting a baseline on your blood pressure.

You put the cuff on your upper arm like usual, making sure the bag centers over the inside of your arm to occlude the artery.

Then you find the radial pulse just up from your thumb at your wrist. (For YSB that would be about a 36 pulse so you'd have to wait a while to feel each pulsation...ha!).

Then you keep your fingers on that pulse point and pump the cuff up to about 190 and release the pressure while watching the needle come down on the sphygmomanometer. As soon as you "feel" the first pulse come through with your fingers see where the needle was....say maybe around 130. That would be your "systolic" blood pressure.

It's called "palpating" the blood pressure. We used to do it all the time in the Recovery Room.

Tell the nurse how to do this next time. She'll be impressed. Ha!!!!

And this morning, on Morning Joe, all the old coots stated that this was a BIG mistake for Grayson. Why, he might not get reelected! I have heard Grayson say he was fine with his constituents, and if they changed, and he was not reelected, why he would just get another job. Damn! Just like the rest of us!!

But the old coots at Morning Joe simply could NOT wrap their "brains" around that. How could anyone NOT do everything in their power to keep their DC jobs? hahaha

I have seen Grayson quite a few times on TV. And his best lines are poo-poohed by the talking heads.

Sticksman's picture

It's just too bad there aren't more politicians with that attitude. And I disagree with an earlier post saying Grayson should watch out. Watch out? What, should he just be so careful with his speech and presentation so that he can fall in line like the rest of the politicians out there? We need people like Grayson who are passionate and believe in doing the right thing and saying so from the heart. You gotta have people saying the emperor wears no clothes.

Captainapathy's picture

He calls Mr. Grayson "Brother" and "dude", and refers to the current executive branch as "The Barack Administration"...

And is that the generally accepted definition of "Progressive"? That's not the way I use it...

Tyler Durden's picture

... he really believes he is a progressive.

The dangers of untreated tertiary syphilis are self evident in this case...

Nowadays, a radical is someone who supports any bill supposed to help ordinary citizens which hasn’t been endorsed by the NRA, the Health Insurance lobby, big media, or executives of too-big-to-fail banking establishments and their supposed regulators.

savannah43's picture

ordinary citizens that are not seen as radical.

Peter G's picture

who post here think "progressive" means but it is, in fact, precisely what it means. The evolution towards a more just and equitable society is a painfully slow process. Getting universal health care is just one of those steps. It is lamentable that so many people want to abandon the battle because the pace of change is not swift enough. How many years did it take to eliminate slavery, get universal suffrage or the recognition of fundamental human rights? We live in interesting times. There are two major civil rights battles currently in progress: the battle for equal rights for the gay and lesbian community and the right to have access to affordable health care. Progress is being made.

When I was in high school the mere suspicion that someone was gay was cause to torment them with little protection from school authorities. Universal health care was not entirely universal. Now gay kids can take their dates to the prom and get married if they wish. Sometimes I think you have to be old enough to even perceive progress it is so slow. It still happens.

I can understand both views of progression:
1) Justice delayed is justice denied.
2) Be patient, it takes time.

It makes my head hurt that I can understand both. It makes me sick that repubs are against both.

BTW, in high school I was a dirty, commie, pinko, fag ... &c and the school admin encouraged me to be beaten up because I wore a black armband after Kent State. I had to wear the damn thing for months just to show they hadn't intimidated me.

Bluestocking's picture

...I've been saying for years now that the American political system is one of the few industries in which it's virtually impossible to succeed by being honest and ethical. Unfortunately, in a democracy, the people get the leaders they deserve and not necessarily the ones they want or need -- and more often than not, the American voters have a lamentable tendency to vote for candidates who tell them what they want to hear instead of what they need to hear, candidates who promise them something for nothing. The fact is that the definition of a successful politician is someone who simply manages to get elected and hold onto the seat by hook or by crook for as long as possible -- and even though good leadership should be part of the price paid in order to hold onto the seat, it doesn't always work out that way. Politics doesn't have as strong a correlation with leadership as one might wish it did -- there are plenty of good leaders who don't make good politicians, and plenty of politicians who don't make good leaders.

Grayson is really something. Not your standard issue politician. Although I think his outspokenness could get him into trouble at some point (he appears to shoot from the hip a bit too cavalierly sometimes), I really respect his willingness to say what he thinks without wrapping it in opaque diplomatic-speak.

This morning on Morning Joe they read a reply to what Grayson said about bush and second base. The reply was from some republican group and the gist of it was that they wished Grayson's dad had never gotten to third base with his mother.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

The Sailor's picture

The repubtard said it after accusing him of being childish.

And they can't even get that right.

Intromission is a home run, not 3rd base. Homeskoolin is hard.

Again Cheney commits another act of treason. The whole Valerie Plame story came out of his office. Libby stonewalled the investigation by lying to the Special Prosecutor. But, that info did come out of Cheney's office.
And Cheney ain't stupid. He may be evil, but he ain't stupid. He knew exactly what was goin on at that time.

I'd say that Cheney saying that is an act of treason.

And weren't they the ones who claimed that criticizing the Commander in Chief in a time of war was treason?

I firmly believe that Cheney knows exactly what he is doing.
He planted the seed that this Prez was giving comfort and aide to the enemy.
I suspect the Secret Service is witnessing even more death threats now. You just know that some whacko out there is boiling over this.
And all because Cheney doesn't like him.
And if we all recall, Cheney said he had a bad back for the inauguration. He was wheeled in. He did stand for the swearing in.
But just a few days later there were photos of him up and around moving freely. I think his wheelchair moment was the act of the highest disrespect for the new Prez.

I hope I live long enough to see his demise.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

If (we can only wish) Obama had the guts and integrity to defend the Constitution and pursue Cheney and the rest of the neo-con war criminals to their fully deserved punishments, then the healing could begin. As it is, Bush crime family violations remain a festering poison in the body politic.

Even so, if an indictment was handed down on Cheney then it would be even money he would do a Bill Casey and come down with a timely case of brain cancer and disappear.

So far, Obama is still protecting Cheney and Bush for their crime.
