Mike's Blog Roundup

Attytood: The NYT inflates the bogus legend of faux 'populist,' Glenn Beck, and the LA Times decides it's necessary to print a piece challenging liberals to listen to Rush Limbaugh!  Meanwhile, Andrew Breitbart informs us that Barack Obama has ordered his slavishly obedient digital stormtrooper jihadis to cruelly make fun of Hugh Hewitt in his blog's comments section.

Think Tank: Steve Coll is reading all 407 pages of the Stimulus Bill and writing a series of posts on it

Emptywheel: Why were the torture tapes destroyed?  Because there was only one thing that could prove they tortured for nothing and got nothing - the tapes

The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Omar al-Bashir, president of the Sudan for genocide in Darfur. At an Arab League summit in Qatar, Syria's President Bashar al-Assad said that the ICC should arrest first "those who have committed massacres and atrocities in Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon."

I say that sounds like a good idea. Let's arrest George W. Bush, Ehud Olmert, and Omar al-Bashir. Let's even throw in Rumsfeld and Ariel Sharon's brain-dead carcass. Fucking war criminals, all of them.

[crossposted from my comment at Sadly, No!] Eight years ago, I used to assume that wingnut trolls like Blartblart and Mann Coulter didn’t believe the bullshit they spewed in their columns. Sometime over the course of Bush's first term, I had learned better, but still assumed that their hypocritical projections and peremptory accusations were still a logical, conscious tactic albeit based on their belief in false premises. Now I’m convinced that projection of their own faults onto others is an autonomic function, taking place in the medulla, and it will continue even in the event of brain death… But that could be interpreted as a tautology.

The "liberal" media has to pretend every rightwing loon is somehow respectable, and will clean up his or her record to do so.

From a controversial but non-partisan and highly readable blog:

"...the common good isn't valued very highly in the USA..."

In the comments at this post.

I would imagine the non-partisan aspect would cause many readers here to dismiss it outright but the whole thread was full of interesting discussion.
