Facing South: Long lines - a voting rights issue. It's not surprising that in 2005, the Florida Republican-dominated state legislature passed laws to make it more difficult. REPUBLICANS DONT WANT AMERICANS TO VOTE
Bay Area Houston: Swift Boat founder and funder, Bob Perry has sent out a mailer to residents of Pasadena,Texas, smearing Democrat Joel Redmond. When they're not suppressing votes they're sliming the opposition.
They gave us a republic: I don't want to hear one more punkass Republican say anything about supporting the troops
pogo: Another member of the most corrupt administration in US history resigns in disgrace

Diabolus est Deus Inversus
I live in a neighboring community and this was constantly all over the news here. That window was near the entrance of a Catholic Hospital's emergency room and the parking area was full of "faithful" who were praying, crying, lighting candles and bringing flowers. This was such a problem for the hospital they finally had to remove the window in order to return to normal day to day operations. I asked a neighbor who went to see the window if she doesn't think this is just coincidence, reminded her that we see things everyday, in clouds, in the pattern on the flooring etc. She was highly insulted because this was, in her terms, clearly a miracle. She was still crying when she returned from viewing the window and clearly no longer had her wits about her.
People see whatever they wanna see..I saw Richard Milhouse Nixon on my cigarette cherry whilst trippin my brains out when I was 18...
I should have started a cult...I mean religion...DAMMIT!
I was at the VA hospital yesterday, and they're still trying to get me to quit drinking.
I only started while in the service.
But yesterday they told me not to go cold turkey, because they suspected that would cause me to go into seizures.
And we'll have more than enough left-over cold turkey for the next few months.

Is trying VERY hard to make me quit drinkin...so far...to no avail!
You evil bastard!
Actually, it seems like I've been drinking heavier than usual the last 7 1/2 years.
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
I've had the same experience. Anyone else?
But it's not like it's a celebratory thing so much...it's more like, a drink to drown out the bullshit thing...for me anyway.
How ironic, someone with moderation as part of their name admitting to immoderation.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus
To alter my state of consciousness just a tweak when I'm in the mood for it.
I love being "normal" (Ha!), but it's fun to experiment with different feelings.
I realize alcohol is alcohol, but it seems there's something different between say a shot of Yagermeister and a shot of Silver Petron tequila. Try drinking a few champagne/Absinthe (the real deal from France etc.) cocktails and that's an entirely different feeling.
But it's no fun to go over the line. When you can't speak properly or think or walk and you have the whirlies....the whole point of imbibing is gone (for me at least).
Ya gotta pace yourself.
And coming up for air and being sober once in a while is fun too! Actually AA meetings are cool! I have two sons who became sober and I attended their meetings when they received various chips. It's fun listening to people's stories and how becoming sober changed their lives. Now mind you, these are folks who used to drink alcohol first thing in the morning until they passed out (generally).
I've read various passages in The Big Book of AA. It's filled with life-affirming stories of people whose lives have literally been saved by AA. It's a great feeling to join in the big circle at the end of their meetings and hold hands. Everyone says, "Keep coming back! It works!!"
If you have "hit bottom" and your life is out of control, if you spend all your time commenting on C&L (kidding), just call the nearest AA and they'll point you to the nearest meeting and you will be given a Big Book on request for free. Be prepared to drink lots of coffee and to make lots of great new friends!
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
But...AA...seems to me, it makes everyone who partakes of alcohol, to be a hopelessy addicted loser...and they shove religion down the throats of the attendees...my brother had to go to AA for a DUI thing...and he's not an alcoholic by any means...he just had lousy timing one night.
He hated it.
I can only speak for my little area of Florida, but yesterday when I went to vote I was impressed how smoothly things went.
There were two rooms of machines so no one was standing and waiting to get a machine. The only time involved was checking in and actually voting. There was a line but it was moving. We weren't just standing still and watching the day go by. Instead of elderly people finding our name in a book and showing us how to fill in a circle, there were computers. Very effecient people swiped our drivers license through a slot which showed them our info on their computer. Then we were asked our address and asked to sign a receipt. We filled out our paper ballots, put them in the scanning box and wrote our initials or maybe our name, can't remember which, on a list. This whole experience took less than twenty minutes.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Odd thing was...it was in a bloody church...when I complained about it...
Everyone gave me eat shit and die looks. Which I returned in kind...
A couple of years ago, people claimed they saw the Virgin Mary in the shape of a broken picket fence overlooking a Sydney beach. I think she's fixed now and back being a normal fence. But no-one loves her anymore.
Who sell potato chips on ebay that look like religious shit, celebrities, whatever...and there are BIGGER idiots that buy that useless crap!
Shame about that fence though...
One simple answer is mail-in-vote which I now hold in my hand.I called the number, gave my information, the ballot arrived the next day.I can fill it out at my leisure, drive 5 minutes to the tax office, drop it in the designated box and then get my beer and cigs on the way back home. Total time-15 minutes. I guess the only drawback would be fear of tampering, but with all the horror stories out there at least I know it arrived with MY choices.
I just read that Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh, insinuated yesterday that Obama was going to Hawaii not to visit his grandmother but rather to address rumors that Obama has failed to produce a valid U.S. birth certificate. It made me actually sick to my stomach. What kind of animal are these ass hats? They are certainly not human.
Kharma. They will pay.Know it.
I hope Karma doesn't take very long.
grasshopper.
I love it. Just stay true to humanity ( bring back the anti-usury laws and defeat the lust for mammon that the first Community Organizer was so upset and warned about!)
Could you clarify the anti-usury laws...my brain...it ain't what it used to be...as for the lust for mammon stuff...as a godless heathen...I have no idea what that is...sounds kinda nasty...
a religous freak I am not.
When I was first exposed to consumer law, I made the connection between the biblical word, usury, and the charging of money for money i.e., interest. Usury was more strictly regulated by almost every state until the Republican empire took hold.. Republicans (some Democrats) conspired to give the fat cats what they wanted, the powers to charge almost without any regulation the interest rates most profitable to them, undoubtedly as the quid pro quo for the money they received.
They eliminated virtually all the consumer protection laws including usury protection. The interest that they are now able to charge skyrocketed. Now pay day loans etc., are the norm for the cash strapped little guy who can't make it from pay check to pay check. I could go on and on.
Anyway, mammon. I read about it for the first time in my life in a Christian website from New Zealand during one of my searching moments (thank god for the net). That was the same night that Bush, having won his second term, gloated about his "political capital." I thought "capital" was an interesting way to phrase what he believed at the time was that he had the license to screw the people.
This New Zealand christain website said something to the effect that Jesus did not preach about fearing the devil (the incarnation of evil) but to fear mammon, the lust for the false god, material wealth.
It made sense to me. Politically speaking and from a community organizer perspective.
I am glad to hear that some pundit, conservative to boot, thinks Iran could be a valuable ally (in the so called war on terrorism.)
Thanks for the 411 dude.
So...yeah...I agree with your previous post, now that you explained those two terms to my dumb ass, lol!
"Karma" doesn't translate here.
As in the case of "jihad," the way Americans throw the term around, the implied meanings end up having nothing whatsoever to do with the traditional origins and meaning they were intended to convey. In fact, compared to the set of concepts that should be associated with "karma," the popular American usage has a distinctly dark, often even sinister tone. This sorrowful mismatch of ideas is perhaps not as inherently or immediately dangerous as the misuse of "jihad," but it is certainly every bit as insidious. Perhaps even more so.
do unto to others, you will get your........
Be true to humanity!
Yeah, but all that is Western concoction, having very little to do with the original meaning of the term.
It works. It exists, it may take too long for some of us to see it, for example, screw mother earth and you screw yourself. You know, an old indigenous "american" idea.
By western, do you mean the Americas, because that's the way I see things!
details. Ok,I was speaking in the 'western vernacular'. I believe my point was made. Move on.

I'm done.
How 'bout this one: Misrepresent (and/or trivialize) philosophies, and you screw yourself.
But of course, "whatever!" translates as, "Screw you. I'll be as careless as I want."
And I agree -- you will.
and You can have a stick up your butt forever. Fine with Me.
typical
How about we not focus on semantics. dkmnow, you are probably correct about the origin and philosophy of the term Karma...but also, UncleDave, chicano2nd and myself might be right about the cosmic payback will come back and bite these fucktards in their fascist asses.
Slightly bigger issues at hand...we can all agree on that, can't we?
Eyes on the prize, right?
next time I'll say cosmic payback,so some elitist won't correct my 'insidious' trivializing. You'll note I didn't correct his grammer.
But we shouldn't begrudge him too much for wantin us to understand what Karma really means.
Ain't nuthin wrong with book larnins!
What you do, whether good or bad, will come back to you 3 fold. (I've heard 10 fold, but that seems a little excessive)
What you're saying sounds alot like Witchcraft. In the modern Craft they have what they call a 3-Fold Law. If you cast a spell on someone that's one, the target of the spell is two, and it can always bounce back on the sender that's three, with three times the force of the original spell.
The rule of ten sounds more like evangelicals regarding tithes or "love-donations" in the parlance of televangelists.

I have been say this for some time on this and other sites. This may prevent, in Plato's terminology "the decay" to where all hell breaks loose. Obama and Progressive blogs like C&L will play a key role in getting rid of the sickness of Republican me-ism!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffing...
Progressive blogs showed the wingnuts some flexed muscle and went after Bachmann of Minnesota, did't they?
Don't these people realize that Obama had to have a valid US birth certificate to get into school and when he went to college-when he got married, driver's license etc just like everyone else has to.
i was listening to senator harry reid on public radio last night. sen. reid was talking about how the
republicans do this EVERY election. one example he mentioned was, hispanic voters being called on the
telephone and being told they could place their vote on the telephone instead of going to the polls.sen.
reid believes there shoud be same day voter registration. he also mentioned ACORN which he says is
another way to stop people from voting. the state i live in allows early voting no special reasons needed.
He's been on my fave list for a long time. Love me some Pat Condell.

McCain camp volunteer mugged by black man and carves "B" in her face after kicking her since she has a McCain bumper sticker and... If it sounds unbelievable- think again- you've got to see this lie to believe it-
Make no motto of love that worships war
I saw that! The fucking "B" is carved backwards in her face, like a moran[sic] might do if she didn't know that a mirror reverses your view of your face.
Rumor has it that the po-po want to give her a lie detector test.
Even better, McCain/Palin are already jumping on this story. Ohhhhhhhh PLEASE let them run with it just so that it can blow up in their faces! That would be too good.
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
They already gave her a lie detector test and that is where the inconsistencies came up (to them) with her "story"... Run with it McCain and Palin! Run with all your might the story of the century with your lying lips!
Make no motto of love that worships war
I repeat:
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
[wiping eyes]
Ahhh, republicans...
I really hope McLame follows through and "Joe The Plumber"s this story to death.
I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.
Fox ran the story and were rather even handed with it to my surprise, but they are sly...they just wanted to get it out there knowing that it would certainly not be looked at with a reasonable eye by the mad mad mad conservative public at large. There are already shot guns being loaded as we speak regarding this story- why wait to see if its the truth or why wait to think reasonbly and see the backward B and the superficial etching of a 4 to 5 inch knife blade and the superficial black eye from her "savage" attacker! Backward B, story unbelievable, "black man" for Obama, McCain bumper sticker, McCain phonebank volunteer who took a year off from college to work on a failing campaign, etc, etc, etc...and as we speak- her story is unraveling even further.
Make no motto of love that worships war
This is a rather mean spirited another transparent attempt at tying this alleged attack to Obama supporters.
And come on..Fox News? Evenhanded? My poor white ass!
The Fear and Propaganda Network is getting desperate.
This will be exposed as the fraud it truly is.
For posting this.
This kind of BS needs to be exposed.

I don't really care if you want to hear about the troops or not! But either EVERY vote counts - or none should. Virginia just tossed out the absentee Military ballots today. That is just PLAIN wrong - and makes every Democrat who complains about long lines to vote, and disenfranchising voters a hypocrit if they don't stand up and protest that this was done... No absentee military ballot has ever been counted - for years.
So put up - or just admit you are a hypocrit.
