Blogger Threatened With Palin Lawsuit: Bring it on, Sarah

In a yet another completely tone-deaf move hailed by GOP sycophants as cagey, Sarah Palin complained about the mean ol' bloggers chasing after her and sic'ed her lawyer after them, threatening lawsuits. Palin's lawyer, in point of fact, put out a four page letter (.pdf) outlining the "defamatory" charges against his client that would embarrass a first semester law student.
One of those in Palin's crosshairs is blogger Shannyn Moore. Shannyn has one message for Palin: Bring it on.
On the Fourth of July, when Americans everywhere were celebrating our most sacred national holiday with parades and barbeques, Governor Sarah Palin was busy having me, Shannyn Moore, declared an Enemy of the State.
In a rambling quasi-legal letter, the most powerful person in this state accused me of defaming her for pointing out the fact that there have been rumors, -rumors- of corruption, rumors that have been around for years.
When Sarah Palin gave her three-weeks notice to the people of Alaska, aborting her term as Governor, a lot of people wondered why she quit. Mid-level managers turn-in their notice, not elected public officials. It didn’t make sense. It still doesn’t. People have been trying to guess why she really quit, and everyone in Alaska has been playing the guessing game. They’re rumors. There are a lot of rumors. And with all the corruption we’ve had here in Alaska, of course we wonder what’s really behind her resignation.
Governors don’t just quit. But Governor Palin did.[..]
Sarah Palin is a coward and a bully. What kind of politician attacks an ordinary American on the Fourth of July for speaking her mind? What’s wrong with her? The First Amendment was designed to protect people like me from the likes of people like her. Our American Revolution got rid of kings. And queens, too. Am I jacked-up? You betcha. Sarah Palin, if you have a problem with me, then sue me.

Which is not the same as "I did nothing wrong." It's a statement to a lack of evidence for censure and/or prosecution.
So here's Sarah, wailing about her legal bills - but the charges she's fought against weren't ONLY brought by bloggers, and the courts/commissions that investigated them clearly found the allegations to have merit, thus requiring a response from the governor.
The only defense against a defamation claim is truth, which Palin doesn't have. So she keeps playing the 'I'm being persecuted!' line in its stead.
Let's see if all those Palin supporters are gonna pony up the greenbacks to fund this little legal fiasco.

She is like my Aunt Eileen. She used to just LOVE me because I was always nice and polite to her and helped her out around the house. But one day she was real mean to my cousin because he didn't agree with her on a meaningless issue that was all about opinion. She went nuts and when I stuck up for him, she came after me with a broom. Haven't spoken to her since.

I was thinking the Randy Nincompoop Congregation (RNC)... You have to somehow match the horniness with incompetence and religious overtones.
He has to know that as a public person, Palin has a very large burden to prove defamation. She must prove that anyone who published FALSE information, did so knowing of the falsity and did so with actual malice. Very rare.
Hard to imagine such a suit would make it out of pretrial.

I agree. I consider myself to be an average person, but I'm aware of the difficulty celebrities and politicians have proving defamation. I read Shannyns blog and she clearly was talking about the rumors. She never wrote anything that someone, with the minimal grasp of the English language, could construe as being libelous. I appreciate what Shannyn wrote and am glad to see her standing up to this bully of a quitter.
In NY, you and your client can be fined tens of thousands of dollars for behavior like this, if it is a suit without merit. I wonder if Alaska has similar laws?

This person had no business being governor in the first place, couldn't handle the job, abandoned her responsibilities the moment she became McLame's Veep and never went back, and has now probably quit because she a) like's being a celebrity b) likes the dollar signs that come with it and c) even this trog understands that the level of celebrity she is gunning for takes no talent, which suits her to a 'T'.

Look at it from Palin's view. She's a thug and a bully so using the law as a club (regardless of the merits) to intimidate is all win for her. She gets to lash out, which probably feels good for her. She get to appeal to her base by appearing to stand up for herself. She appeals to her base again playing the victim when of course the case goes no where and she's mocked for it. And best of all, it being a basically empty threat she doesn't have to actually back it up. And you know long shot though it may be, you never know, maybe a blogger or reporter might blink. And it cost Palin nothing.

i'm not sure about this moore and palin drama, but i believe palin may be a bait n switch play for the far right/evangelical demographic. if palin runs for president which i doubt at this time she will rally evangelicals/extreme right but will turn over voters to romNEY. the evangelicals/extreme right will be convinced romNEY is their best choice. personally, i would like to see palin walk away from politics
