Et Tu, Fox News Channel?

Haiti-quake-aid-boy-recei-001_f978a.jpg

It's a horrible, unspeakable tragedy that gets you right in the core of your humanity. The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere is flattened by a huge earthquake. Hundreds of thousands killed, thousands of children orphaned, more than 1.5 million now homeless. Bodies of the dead are lain in the street to be bulldozed into mass graves while machete-wielding gangs fight for the scarce resources. The pain, the fear, the sense of hopelessness is palpable.

It is now incumbent upon all of us, as fellow humans, to lend a hand and help the Haitians. And in a rare show of humanity, broadcast and cable television outlets have agreed to pre-empt their regular programming to air the Hope For Haiti Now Global TV Telethon.

Except for Fox News Channel.

Our crack C&L team has checked around the dial and compiled a list of channels participating:

CBS

ABC

NBC

CW

FOX

TNT

Weather Channel

MSNBC

CNBC

CNN

HBO

Showtime

Major League Baseball Network

Style Network

E! Entertainment Network

ReelzChannel

TNT

Comedy Central

Oxygen

Soap Opera channel

Bravo

National Geographic Channel

Sleuth

G4

CMT

TV1

BET

MTV

MTV2

VH1

GMC

FUSE

Current

PBS

It's even streaming live on IMDb, Hulu and YouTube.

But not for FNC or their sister business channel. They're showing Billo and crew.

I guess that tells you exactly what you need to know about Fox's responsibility as a "news" channel.

The Hope For Haiti fundraiser will distribute donations to the following organizations: The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, United Nations World Food Programme, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, Unicef, and Wyclef’s Yele Haiti Foundation. If you have not yet donated, please consider doing so now.

I'll be copying and pasting that list a couple places, such as my local news rag's site full of wingnuts.

The Fox Network did carry the simulcast, but Fox News did not. Also, CNN carried it and Headline News is not not on the above list (cause I don't know if they participated or not). Yes Fox News is a partisan outhouse with a specific and bigoted following and I'm sure their commercial sponsors were just as adamant that only a 'Praise the Right' rantfest would suffice.

Anais's picture

What other explanation could there be? Sure makes their protesting the alleged "war on Christmas" hypocritical. I mean, wasn't it Christ himself who said, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me"? Guess Fox is saying to its brothers (and sisters) in Haiti, "you'll get no help from us!"

I don't see CBN on that list either. Looks like they took Pat "Holier Than Thou" Robertson seriously.

For themselves. Seriously, they had a "Membership Challenge". You just can't make this stuff up. Also, theres a post defending ole Pat, claiming he "never stated the earthquake was God's wrath". Which is the kind of bald-faced lie these putzes are always getting away with.

cuttr's picture

For visiting the CBN site for research. On the other hand, that's probably more research than FNC's done all week.

I've already paid as much as I can afford through Officers of Avalon.

About every other week or so I buy those bags of groceries at the store for $5-$8 that at least provide some staples.

Even if it just goes to feed the local hungry, it may free up what little our foodbanks have due to the global markets to send some provisions to the Haitians.

That's pretty cool. I wish we had something, anything, in Korea. People here don't trust any charities (for good reason-- bad track record). I'd love a drop bin, or something, so each time I go to the supermarket I could put a few things in.

That long list of channels just shows Faux doesn't function in the real world the vast majority do. I watched and enjoyed Sting and some of the others I saw. It's for an essential need to help our fellow man, Faux only serves the elite, and the teabag idiot drones used to vote in elite representatives. 3 million brainwashed morons out of 300 million Americans watch that crap, put it in perspective. 1%.

In Chicago CLTV (The Tribune owned local CNN style 24/7 news channel) is showing it. The Food Channel is also putting up blurbs on the bottom of their screens during their cooking shows, (which seems kind of wrong, when I think about it).

I overheard a man today reciting almost word for word what Pat Rebertson said about Haiti, complete with voodoo worship and the coming apocalypse. It really doesn't hit you until you hear someone actually proselytizing this shit in public. The guy he was talking to had this look of "get me away from this nutcase!" all over his face. I wanted to intervene (and probably should have) but it's really useless to confront someone that far over the edge.

FOX knows most of their hardcore followers are middle aged Christian men who don't particulalry like black people or foreigners- So their downplaying the tragedy is hardly a surprise.....

FOX doesn't want to lose their racist audience...

In the minds of FOX viewers,

Haitians are

(1) black people
(2) foreigners

These are two groups of people the right wing audience of FOX hates....

Edwin's picture

Oops, you forgot their "serves 'em right, deal with the devil" part. Fox viewers feel completely justified (and superior, no doubt). They may even get indignant if someone asked them to help those "heathens".

"If the US government enforced its banking laws like it did its park regulations, we wouldn't be

They seem to be terrified of the very idea of any group, including the government or the media, taking any kind of action to help anyone, anywhere, especially people who are poor, foreign, and/or black. In Right-Wing World, it's every (white, American) man for himself!

I am not surprised at all to learn that Fox "News" and the phony "Christian" theft channels are not participating in the worldwide effort to assist Haiti. What else would you expect from selfish, heartless cretins?

eric6161's picture

Tom, please let me correct your misconceptions. Progressives (liberals) are the ones who stood on the school house steps and wouldn't allow kids into white schools. It was the Christians who have supported civil rights.
I assume you know that the minimum wage law was passed to keep black teens unemployed. At the time it was passed white and black teens were equally employed and that really upset the progressives. The law was passed and unemployement jumped amongst black youth.
I also assume you know that Senator Byrd (D) of Virginia was a grand dragon of the KKK before he became a senator.
Conservatives donate money to help people... progressives (liberals) donate money to help pbs/entertainment.

General Jack D. Ripper's picture

I couldn't watch any of it since I was at a visitation and funeral service, but I was wondering who all would be showing the program.

Couple of explanations:

1. Faux takes after limpballs who made those horrible racist comments last week about Haiti and Obama. limpballs also made some comment last year about Haiti not being suitable for Bill Clinton because he couldn't pick up prostitutes without a substantial risk of catching AIDS.

2. Faux hates furgner's and dark-skinned people.

3. Faux hates all of those far left-wing loons of singers and the Hollywood elite, so they should just ignore them.

4. Pat Robertson has been a guess on various Faux shows. Perhaps Faux doesn't want to make a "pact with the devil," the "devil" being all of those leftie celebrities as well as the Haitians themselves.

I really hate the Faux news network more than ever.

lkerniii's picture

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL shows it and Fox "news" DOESN'T???
That is enough said right there.
I put a pass-code on my cable and Fox is locked out. Also, ANY time I enter ANY business that has Fox news on I leave, but before I leave I tell them.
1% of America watching them is too many. Needs to be zero.

It's unimaginable to me how any human being can look at what's happening in Haiti and not be moved to help in someway , or to not feel any sense of caring or compassion. But there's Fox for you. They are peddlers of hate and misinformation. They are bigots. No doubt if there was a tragedy of this scale in a predominantly white country, they'd be all over it.

American Populist's picture

A now former acquaintance and Facebook friend of my wife griped that he didn't understand why people were so concerned about Haiti. After all, when he was a kid growing up in Southern California, there was a 7.0 earthquake and no one pitched in to help, so why does Haiti get attention? Because it's all part of the Librul agenda to make us all the same!!!!

I grew up in SoCal myself, and I remember that quake. It killed people. About a couple dozen or so. A freeway collapsed and some buildings took some damage. And we went about our business because our infrastructure was just fine otherwise (slight gross generalization, but you get the idea). How this jack-ass can't see the difference is beyond me. Oh, and yes, he's a big fan of Lonesome Rhodes, BillO, and Fat Bastard. These people have no shame.

What does anyone expect from Faux News?

eric6161's picture

Wow, no logic in this blog I see. As a conservative I donated to my church which partnered with pastors in Haiti to bypass the Haitian mafia so we can actually help people.
Obama shirked his duty to help the Haitian people by allowing the thugs to steal the food and supplies coming in to their country. Why did it take so long for the troops to get there to open the roads and bring the food to the people? Bush messed up in New Orleans and a few people died... Obama allowed 100,000 people to die in Haiti.
