Glenn Beck Ranting_57d0a.jpg

Oh Jeez. If I had known you could do this, I would have had Jamie, our tech god, set up a page for me. My needs are pretty basic; I don't want or need a $150,000 car:

While Glenn Beck has meet with former Presidents, had dinners with Governors and played with dolls at a Super Bowl party - there is one thing he's never done, he's never been the owner of a a Mercedes S600. Now is your chance to real make a difference in someone's life.

One dollar at a time the Glenn Beck Program is working to fund the Glenn Beck New Car Fund. This event will not be funded by any corporations. This event will not be funded by radio stations. This event will be funded by YOU. Please, send $1 dollar only per each person in your home. We will not accept donations in excess of $1 per person in your home. Our goal is $147,625.

O.M.F.G. Does anyone think he was able to find 150,000 saps willing to buy the man the top of the line Mercedes he had the hubris to demand?

Wonder how all those idiots feel now that they funded this welfare queen with an estimated annual income of $23 million. Apparently, the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" lesson is for others.

That picture is NSFW and you should give your users the option to hide profanity such as this.

My 1982 Toyota Corolla, which I've been driving for 17 years, has developed a serious problem (wheel and/or axle bearings, or a spring fallen in the brakes, or something else that causes a horrible grinding sound) and I can't afford to fix it. Nor can I afford a newer car. If I ask 2,000 people to send me a dollar each, maybe I could get a car made in the 1990s....

Excelsior's picture

You wouldn't be the first. Put up a little website and tell your story. Ask people to Paypal you .50 each. It's worked before, for many folks. The jist is to ask for so little from each person that it's not any inconvenience to them. Lots of people would donate "just for fun". With a little patience and some savvy posting here and there on message boards and such, you'd get your money. What have you got to lose?

Is this freakin' serious? I mean shit, I can't believe it. Even the Onion couldn't make up something like this.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

One person said their relative died after sending for and receiving some kind of magic thingy that was supposed to cure diabetes. She went off her meds and died.

Another said her mother sent $25 to Oral Roberts and got a letter back saying that God told him she could afford to send more, and that she should send more. The woman's daughter told her mother to write them, ask to be taken off their mailing list, and helped her find a local charity that'd appreciate her $25.

And BTW, he would say it was God doing the healing, not him, but he did not seem to mind the adulation or living high on the hog off poor people's money.

You can still click on the link and make a donation via paypal...it was sooo easy! Umm...

For Captain America? Seems a bit hypocritical.

Shouldn't he be buying an American made vehicle? How unpatriotic of him.

Torontonian's picture

Has he no sense of shame? What gives with this guy?

Why should he go cap in hand to the viewers when he
should be able to readily afford the vehicle, in the first place?

pissed off patricia's picture

I believe he could damned well afford it with the contract he has with Fox. He's just a greedy SOB using the poor saps who believe every word he says. I guess since his Christmas Sweater show was a flop, he's having to cut back or something. There are homeless, hungery people and kids in this country and he has the nerve to ask for this? He should be deeply ashamed and put an end to this insanity.

This welfare request went up in 2003.

As "outside its america" points out, the Paypal account is still active six years later.

People with lots of money are the biggest skinflints you can imagine. It's unbelievable how little they are willing to pay for the things they want. The more money they've got, the less they want to part with it. They prefer to skim off their companies' assets, stiff anyone who works for them, scam anyone who sells to them, and use every trick in the book to keep from paying taxes.

It's rather bizarre, but I've found that the poorer people are, the more generous they tend to be. Humans are fucking WEIRD.

the only thing i need to know is how can i make glenn beck's life better.

Celebrity Drive: Fox News Channel's Glenn Beck
Talk Show Host Doesn't Hide His Passion for American Cars

When it comes to car talk, Beck is also in fifth gear with his trademark passion and conviction. Make no mistake, Beck is patriotic and thus he owns American cars. He's since become an ambassador for General Motors, through his radio show. "I had all my GM cars before I was an ambassador for GM," Beck says. "The reason I took them on is because I love them."

As much as I depise this asshole I am torn. If his followers are stupid enough to buy him a car that costs $150,000 when he makes $23 million I say more power to him. Even if he is one of the biggest pricks on the planet. They deserve to be taken in, the dumbasses.

I agree. Given that this is a six year old request, maybe his listeners aren't complete idiots.

catherineku's picture

I currently teach in Glenn's hometown. Remember when he visited not too long ago? What a farce! If Glenn Beck can get people to donate $1 per person for a LUXURY car, could I do the same thing to help pay down (not off!) my student loan? I started with $100,000 from a B.A. and two Master's. I have 180 wonderful students and I love teaching. I believe I do more good every day with my students in poverty than any of Glenn's chalkboard "history lessons." I promise this: For every dollar contributed to my cause, I will make sure that all students know the difference between fascism, communism, and socialism! Sigh... You know I'll do it with or without the contributions. It's called dedication to the truth.

Excelsior's picture

Like I told Kate above: get a friend to code a little website for you with a Paypal link. Tell your story (include photos) and ask people to donate $1 each. Spread the word through email and message boards. Be sure to include updates so people know what's going on. You have to have some patience and diligence, but you'll be surprised - people really will donate if the amount isn't big enough to pinch them in the wallet. What have you got to lose?

If they send you out a prepaid postage envelope, fill it with old washers and send it back, I do that with any Republican donation mail I receive.

Excelsior's picture

is to rip up their donation letter into tiny pieces, but making sure the part with my name and mailing list code is intact. It might take a couple of tries, but they always end up taking my name off their damn lists.

Though your idea about the washers is pretty good. I'll include something heavy next time to drive the cost up. :)

Was this a joke? I googled around and didn't find any evidence that it was. So, if it was for real:

Do you think he claimed on his tax return any income that he received and kept from this.... including the car, if he did get it? I think an IRS audit would be appropriate.

Too bad he didn't offer donors a chance to win something in return, because he could then be busted for running a lottery.

Nicole Belle's picture

Goes to his 2003 archives.

That's a real page.

However, I, too, did some googling and couldn't find any evidence that he was successful in begging for his Mercedes.

wuzupdawk's picture

Why stop at the Mercedes. If they want to continue to give, six years later, why turn off the taps?

I agree with the poster who suggested an IRS audit. I'd write them, but they won't listen to this Canadian.

Anyone got the time to send the IRS a tip?

A few weeks ago, Glenn Beck offered his fans this advise for dealing with panhandlers:

“Can you spare some change? Have you ever been asked this by some random panhandler? A good response is ‘Sorry, I only carry hundreds.’ It gets em every time.”

So...to summarize his warped version of right and wrong:

Mock: people that have no money
Help: A rich guy, who asks his considerably poorer audience, to give him money

I remember Oral Roberts telling his flock that if he didn't raise enough money then the Lord would take him home. I was hoping but he found enough saps. There are way too many saps in this country.

I have the perfect Mercedes for G.B.
A very nice Mercedes S600, used but only one driver, very clean, well maintained, a real eye catcher.
This Mercedes has not been driven in about 3 weeks because the owner can no longer drive it.
There are 10s 0f millions of citizens in this country who are suffering terribly due to the Bush Economic Disaster, millions who have lost their insurance, lost their living wage pay check, even more who have seen their hours dropped to part time.
But lets face facts, there are 10s of thousands who have made a killing in this economy and are just ducky with the way things are going, and G.B. is one of those people.
As I was saying, the owner of the Mercedes owned a construction company and a mill works in Kirkwood Mo.. he employed many people and his customers were very pleased with the quality of his work. he was a volunteer for many charities and he was totally committed with his hands on top-to-bottom support for habitat for humanity.
About 3 weeks ago he parked his Mercedes on east Glenwood, walked to the overpass at Big Bend and Hwy 270 and took his life splattered onto the shoulder of 270.
He had a wife and 4 kids, and left behind many employees and friends that all loved the guy.
The day he took his life the bank was foreclosing on his business, you know, the same banks that were suppose to be helping the small businessmen and women of our country.
He is very much a victim of the Bush Economic Disaster and the failed public policies that continue the disaster that we are currently in.
Glenn Beck should be the winner of the spoils of this mans life.......and it's a nice car.

Years before the World Wide Web, but when the Internet existed (there was gopher, telnet, ftp, and usenet), my friend posted a post on Usenet asking for everybody to send him $1.

It didn't work, he didn't even get $1.

But now we have graphical websites where Beck can ask. I bet he's gotten thousands of fans to send him $1.

Maybe I should try it, I only want $10,000 :)
