Can Dick Cheney take his daughter Liz back to his undisclosed location and keep her there? Why the hell is Liz Cheney so visible now? I can't recall seeing her hardly at all during the eight years of Bush/Cheney and now she is ubiquitous.

And sadly, her entire reason to be on the air is to be a divisive partisan pain in the ass. Her goal is to continually fuel the hatred and suspicions of all those wingnuts barely holding on to their sanity as it is.

When asked about the Birthers and their Obama Derangement Syndrome, rather than take the adult stance of saying that it's a shame that this fringe group isn't willing to accept the reality that the President was born in the US, Cheney gleefully pounces on the chance to slam Obama for being "anti-American" and refusing to stand up for what the US believes in.

CHENEY: I think the Democrats have got more crazies than the Republicans do, but setting that aside, I think that….You know, one of the reasons I think you see people so concerned about this, I think that this issue is …people are uncomfortable with having ---for the first time ever, I think--- a President who seems so reluctant to defend the nation overseas. A President who sits through a completely venomous screed by Daniel Ortega and then his only response—when the United States has been hostilely attacked—is to say “hey, you know, basically, I was only three at the time.” And you know, we’ve seen this….

CARVILLE: That’s so…

CHENEY: James, don’t interrupt me. We’ve seen this again and again and again, where this President seems to sort of want to create moral equivalence…

KING: Are you saying…it’s because he’s a Kenyan?

CHENEY: No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying that people are fundamentally uncomfortable and they’re fundamentally, I think, increasingly uncomfortable with an American president who seems to be afraid to defend America. Who seems to be afraid to stand up for what we believe in.

Head. Slams. Keyboard. Seriously, Liz, do you really think this is constructive at all immediately following a video of a woman so high strung and so out of touch with reality that she's just a step away from snapping altogether? Is it possible to step out of your friggin' partisan mindset for two seconds and just say that the Birther movement is a bunch of nutcases and they need to come to grips with reality? I'm no fan of Carville, but he nails Cheney for her disingenuous rationale:

CARVILLE: Let me hurl a fact around. These people….these poor, pathetic people believe stuff, just like Ms. Cheney tonight. She refuses to say it’s ludicrous because she actually wants to encourage these people who believe that. It’s just a simple thing: “This is a nutty thing. There’s nothing to this, I disagree with this president’s policy.” They can’t say that. They can’t say that because they’re scared they’ll lose the sort of nut wing of their party.

Well, exactly, James. And as someone who had to suffer through transcribing this mess, I note that Liz Cheney tends to fill time with a lot of "I think"s. Actually, Liz, if this clip shows anything, it's that you don't think.

Every time some Republican, no matter who they are, comes on an MSNBC show they need to be asked where they stand on this. Let us know who is who here.

Key Birther Lawyer Was Disbarred … In 2004
By David Weigel 7/20/09 11:02 AM

One of the more amusing quirks of the “birther” movement is the quality of the legal minds in whom Obama birth certificate obsessives are placing their trust — and their occasional donations. Phil Berg, the original “birther” lawyer, has been forced to pay out sanctions for legal malpractice. Orly Taitz, famously, got her law degree from an online correspondence school. And it turns out that Charles Lincoln, who has been assisting Taitz — he provided judges with amended complaints in Keyes et al v. Obama et al last week and he showed up at the last hearing on the case— has been disbarred in California, as well as Florida and Texas.

From the May 2004 issue of the California Bar Journal, which reported on the matter:

In 2000, Lincoln was convicted in Texas on a federal charge of falsely representing his Social Security number, a felony. As a result, he gave up his license to practice in the state.

Originally charged with five felonies, the case resulted from Lincoln applying for a checking account using a false Social Security number.

In a second matter, he was disbarred from U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas after a federal judge requested an investigation of Lincoln because two of his clients had a falsified receipt. The receipt purported to be from the federal court clerk and represented funds the clients had given Lincoln. The clients believed Lincoln was depositing their money in an escrow account related to their case.

Two days before a hearing by the federal court’s admissions committee, Lincoln went to his clients’ home, instructed them not to tell the judge that he gave them the receipt, which he asked them not to produce, and he gave the clients a cashier’s check for $6,000. He did not appear at the hearing.

In a previous lawsuit, the same judge determined that Lincoln was involved in discovery abuse and filed duplicative motions. The judge issued sanctions and dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice.

At the July 12 hearing on the Keyes complaint, Lincoln identified himself as a “law clerk.” The eyewitness report of that hearing is worth reading, since it contradicts with Taitz’s original, hilarious report of a judge who took her seriously. Actually, Judge David Carter spent a lot of time trying to get Taitz to stop wasting the court’s time with antics such as reading her complaint into the record.

Talk about twisted logic. How did Liz Cheney connect these two point...Obama's birth certificate and the safety of this country? Seriously, I know she has her "dad's right" agenda, but to twist this knot is unbelievable.
And when will someone connect this birther B.S. with the source...right wingnut radio. These people are getting this from somewhere and we all know where.

destroyed Orly Taitz.

It's a pretty long read but she's basically full of it.

http://www.ocweekly.com/2009-06-18/news/orly-...

This I found on the following site.

http://acandidworld.com/2009/03/13/turnabout-...

“Dr.” Orly Taitz, a woman holding herself out as a lawyer, has managed to leverage the far-right’s distaste for President Obama into a number of conspiracy theories, a few scurrilous lawsuits, and fifteen minutes of fame, billing herself as the defender of obscure constitutional phraseology and – apparently – the republic itself. But “Dr.” Taitz may be the only “ineligible” player in her little farce.

Although Taitz is a member of the California Bar, she’s not listed as a member of the American Bar Association (check for yourself). Nor is her “law school” (William Howard Taft University) accredited by the ABA. Because Taft is a distance-learning school only, Taitz’s degree entitles her, at most, to practice in California, as her school candidly admits.

Old Billy's picture

Jon Stewart destroyed her too. Very funny bit about how she could handle all your tooth, law, and real estate related business.

This so called birther issue is all about bigotry and racism. The birthers HATE the fact that a black man is president and will cling onto anything to kick him in the ass. Seriously, if Obama was white and had a german accent, would these people care where he was born?

Captain Kangaroo's picture

Well no they wouldn't. Do you remember the right wing talking about changing the constitution so that Arnold Schwarzenegger could run fro president at the time he was campaigning for McShame?

the incredibly despicable thing is, that Obama is distantly related to the Cheneys. Not that blood ties prevent racists from condemning their mixed-blood relatives, or anything like that, but, well, you get my point...

Edit - It was Lynne who discovered the kinship, and she seemed excited. Go figure. *shrug*

Too bad that America does not have any news media. All we have are entertainment ratings hounds.

"She refuses to say this is ludicrous because she wants these people to believe this."

Therein lies the entire Republican strategy.

And if you think of the history of lies Americans have believed, they've managed to do a great job:
Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11
George W. Bush protected us from terrorist attacks
John Kerry didn't really earn a purple heart in Vietnam
The media is biased by liberals
Reagan made the Soviet Union collapse
All government programs are bad
The U.S. was founded as a Christian nation, not secular
"In God We Trust" has always been our national motto (not "e pluribus unum")
"under God" has always been in our Pledge of Allegiance
Global warming hasn't been proven
Evolution is merely a theory

The list goes on.

Isn't that what Hutus called the Tutsi's before the genocide? I'm just sayin'. Liz Cheney is a political hack of the worst ilk, but I get uncomfortable when we start throwing around dehumanizing terms to describe entire groups of people. That is a dangerous thing to do.

The victim here is truth. As with all "conspiracy" theories, in the end all the sound and fury doesn't need to signify anything in order to be dangerous. Shame on Liz Cheney for putting cynical political points ahead of just answering a simple question. She accomplished her goal: bad mouth the current president to help her father's ailing political legacy. The question could've been "is the moon made of green cheese?" and her response would have been the same.

I really think the political divide has gotten so bad that we deserve whatever happens to us. I live in Texas, and there are otherwise rational, good people here talking about armed revolt against the federal government. I fundamentally disagree with the Cheney's of the world, but I don't need to dehumanize them to prove my point.

I think I have it! (Proof that Obama is a US citizen, that is)

1. Obama has a US passport (We know that because state department employees snuck a look at his, Hillary's & McCain's during the election)

2. The US Dept. of State is only authorized to issue passports for US citizens.

3. One of the requirements for a US passport is a CERTIFIED BIRTH CERTIFICATE. From their website:

*A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. Please note, some short (abstract) versions of birth certificates may not be acceptable for passport purposes.

To answer "bithers", a syllogism:

To get a US passport, you must be a US citizen and provide a certified BC

Obama HAS a US passport

Therefore, Barack Obama IS a US citizen.

Does that work for you, Daughter of Draft Dodger Liz?

woodrowfan's picture

except that you also need to be a natural born citizen, and not naturalized. President Obama is natural
born of course, but owning a passport is not sufficient proof in and of itself...

would have the info, natural or naturalised documentation on file, depending on what kind of proof of citizenship accompanied the $$$ and application for the first one. The govt has had the proof all along.

The winning viewer said, "I hope he doesn't fall off, he'll have to wait at least six months to be seen by a doctor in Canada!" or some such nonsense. I rarely see John King smile or laugh, but he got a big kick outta that! What a creep!

I don't actually care what Americans think or say of our health care. These people can lie and joke about it all they want. In the end, we've got it and that's all that matters.

Any American would be delighted to have it. That your elected representatives aren't going to bat to get it for American citizens shows exactly who they're working for and it ain't you, reading this.

What the "birthers" don't want to admit is that it doesn't matter if Obama was born in Hawaii or Kenya or Timbuktu; his mother was a natural born American citizen, so he is also a natural born American citizen.

Enough already!

As for Liz Cheney, I guess she is out trying to establish some sort of credibility case for her pathetic excuse of a man--her father.

What these nutty people do understand is that there is a black man in the white house and they are a bit....shall we say...racist. And Liz....ummm...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He's got to get things kinda off topic and what better way than pull the rug out from the sitting president. Let's get back on topic shall we? Your father committed crimes against humanity. Even worse than when he shot his friend in the face.

So Liz...I'm not finished Liz...that woman you heard suffers from hysteria. She's wasting what energy she has not for the good of her community but more for the attention. I find people who bait weak human beings like this to gain on their own agenda, very evil. In the 19th Century, Liz, this woman would have pulled the strings on her corset too tight and claimed she suffered from consumption. The smelling salts would have been in every drawer in her house. If you want to encourage it fine but do the rest of us have to suffer along with this woman's "affliction"?

I have a better idea Liz. Write a well documented book proving your bullshit theory.

Jeanne

Kanzeon's picture

She is not a stupid woman. She KNOWS that there isn't any connection between Obama's foreign policy and the birthers. The birthers are racists and xeonphobes, who don't like that Obama is black, has a funny name, and lived abroad.

The strategy never changes. As with Clinton, the Republicans will deny the legitimacy of the president, and mobilize their core group of revolutionaries who will advocate for the violent overthrow of the government for the next four to eight years.

There is no counterpart strategy on the left - although many questioned (with good reason) Bush's legitimacy, there was never any significant radical movement advocating civil disobedience and violence as a response to the adminstration's mere existence.

It isn't a fringe strategy. It is giving a group of violent people encouragement and approval in mainstream discourse.

The Villagers are a pain in the butt, but I can't fathom why Pat Buchanan or Ann Coulter is on national television, or how Liz Cheney can defend the birthers even indirectly for an instant.

At least Matthews and some of the other Villagers are calling this one straight, but I don't really expect that to continue.

In 1988, while Dick Cheney was Wyoming's sole representative in the House of Representatives, his daughter's senior thesis was quietly published in Colorado Springs. The 125-page treatise argued that, constitutionally and historically, presidents have virtually unchecked powers in war.

I know i'm a bit late to the conversation, but this is good timing - because on "The Daily Show" Stewart just DESTROYED the whole argument, and took some well deserved shots at Lou Dobbs in the process. I wish we could take some of these people and force them to watch that TDS segment, we could prop their eyes open all "A Clockwork Orange" style.

On June 7th, this website reported that the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu posted on its website
a letter on White House stationery dated January 24th (since scrubbed), in which Obama wrote, "As a beneficiary of the excellence of Kapi'olani Medical Center -- the place of my birth -- I am pleased to add my voice to your chorus of supporters" -- even though Obama himself has previously claimed to have been born at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, a claim backed up by his sister Maya.

Until June 7th, even United Press International (UPI) and Snopes.com contained statements that Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. Here is a screen capture from Snopes.com that says, "Barack Hussein Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center." Today, Snopes.com claims that "Barack Hussein Obama, was born on 4 August 1961 at the Kapiolani Medical Center." Snopes claims they made the change because Wikipedia made the change.

These are 2 screenshot of the same UPI article which was changed by UPI

The United States Justice Foundation (USJF) served officials at Occidental College with a subpoena to produce records concerning Barack Obama's attendance there during the 1980's, because those records could document whether he was attending as a foreign national. You see, Mr. Obama attended the school on a scholarship -- and there are questions as to whether the financial aid he received was reserved for foreign students. The Obama attorneys have bent over backward to block us. He doesn't want anyone to see those records. He's STILL trying to hide them; those financial records STILL have not been released.

Why does Liz Cheney get any media time? The daughter of Dick?
Is it some sort of nepotism granted to Liz because her Father was vice president and shot some poor sap in the face and made the poor sap appologize to Dick for getting his face in the way?

Are they enabling Liz to go to Wyoming to be given her birth right to her fathers old congressional seat?

What has Liz done in her life to be givin the Coulter attention? To be considered some sort of expert on issues? I'd rather losten to Meagan McCain. At least she has moments of honesty like when she called Joe the Plumber a "dumb ass".

Liz in defending her father tried to make herself sound as if she was privy to all secret info pertaining. She can off looking like Ann Coulter when she quotes herself as a referring truth.

Why is Liz Cheney getting so much air time, as if she has one shred of credibility, let alone objectivity when it comes to defending her own father's failures, both as a decent human being and vp?

my man obama is spending a fortune on foreign wars, "defending" america. thats what her father called defending america. He(obama) has a stack of neo cons and neo liberals in his cabinet. she should shut the fuck up, he is more like her dad than she is willing to admit.

...maybe it's because she's living proof that Dick Cheney actually mounted Lynne at some point and had--oh God--some version of sex. Of course, it would have to be strictly missionary, since they're from Wyoming, and I bet Dick sounds like the Penguin from Batman (60s TV version) right at the point when his evil seed is expressed.

I'd say liz was never bent over her father's lap enough

But then I recall to myself,

What lap?

She must have been dropped on her head by her Dickhead father. She has got to be the most confused, uneducated, ignorant moron, but hey these idiots are the future Reslug party.

These people (the pundits who do not decry and discourage the birther nutcases like that simpleton who commandeered the mic at the GOP rally videotaped by someone and shown on all the cable news pundit programs) appear to be doing all they can to create an atmosphere of suspicion and hate: if Obama is not a citizen, some whacko nutjob will try to do him in. How irresponsible can you get? Not having anything original to contribute to the political discourse -- new ideas, suggestions for going forward, programs to make the country safe and extend health care to those who are flooding our emergency rooms and increasing the cost of medical care for all of us -- they are reduced to simply engaging in these dangerous games. They can hardly deny culpability considering the rhetoric of their senators and representatives. "Kill this, stop that," &c. They make the term "sore losers" sound like the understatement of the decade.
