Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread

Can you believe it? It takes a devastating earthquake to not have John McCain, Joe Lieberman or Lindsey Graham on a Sunday show. Hallelu-damn-jah! However, don't be alarmed if you surf between the channels and see the same people--basically, this week is devoted to the crisis in Haiti and the American team designated to respond: former Presidents Clinton and Bush, Deputy Commander of the US Southern Command Lt. Gen. Ken Keen and Rajiv Shah of USAID. They'll be appearing on the five major news shows. If you want a little change of pace, you may want to tune into Fareed Zakaria GPS, where Naomi Klein will appearing, warning against the creation of another chapter of the Shock Doctrine in Haiti.

ABC's "This Week" - Former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush; Lt. Gen. Ken Keen, deputy commander of the U.S. Southern Command; Rajiv Shah, U.S. Agency for International Development administrator.

CBS' "Face the Nation" - Clinton, Bush, Keen, Shah.

NBC's "Meet the Press" - Clinton, Bush, Keen, Shah.

NBC's "The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Andrea Mitchell, Howard Fineman, John Heilemann, Kelly O'Donnell. Topics: Revelations from the '08 Campaign about Obama, Clinton and Edwards; Sarah Palin in Primetime: Why Are Big-Name Republicans Afraid of Her?

CNN's "State of the Union" - Clinton, Bush, Keen, Shah, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C.

CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" - A different look at Haiti - how the nation's past plays into its present troubles. Plus - the gigantic Wall Street bonuses, and the question: what will it take to make Wall Street get it? Finally, nation-building in Yemen --it just might make Afghanistan look easy.

CNN's "Amanpour" - Iran Jail Deaths, Aid to Haiti.

"Fox News Sunday" - Clinton, Bush, Keen, Shah, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

So what's catching your eye this morning?

...More true this week than ever before.

I'm no fan of Sanjay Gupta ever since he became the "go to guy" for trashing "SiCKO", but you've gotta have respect for anyone after something like this:

CNN Medical Correspondent left in charge of field hospital after doctors flee.

this is the Sunday morning bobblehead version.

Ditto that! The President gave her a surprise party last night at a DC restaurant. How long do you think it will be until someone bashes him for that? You can almost hear it now, While people are dying in Haiti for lack of food and water, the Obamas celebrate with a dinner out.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Today marks one year since I made the best mistake of my life. Last year on this date I applied to one Yorkie Rescue on line while thinking I was applying to another. The one I applied to by mistake called me the next morning and as a result, today I have Martini. Take about fate or luck or what-have-you, that was one hell of a good mistake.

I saw pictures yesterday of Haiti and a very large dump truck was dumping dead people into a large open grave. Along with the bodies there was chunks of rocks and debris. It was completely heartbreaking and nightmarish.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

So professor Bush is on 5-6 talking head shows about his upcoming "help" for Haiti.

Does anyone think that a single show participant will ask him 1)if he will do a better job for the Haitians that he did for New Orleans?????????n 2) If he plans to take his bicycle if he actually goes to Haiti??

Blackie.

Mitchy on FnS explained why the Chris Brown election is such a big deal:

They are "just one vote" from derailing health care reform. So Republicans across the country are focused like a laser on Brown winning in MA.

Who is it on the panel that this hillbilly senator is there to counterweigh on the fair and balanced network?

Mugsy's picture

Mitchy tells fill-in host Hume that Obama's "deal" to delay the "tax on Cadillac health care plans for 5 years while non-union employees start paying right away" is a scheme to promote unions.

The horror.

I need to vent! How many of you look at international news? I'm watching "State of the Union" right now and feeling sick over the lies and justifications spouted. The Chinese were the first teams into Haiti not the US. Why do talking heads keep saying ...."as our president has directed us to do"? I wish Americans would look at intenational news and see whats really happening in the world. I believe the US has done well, but god damn tell the truth about whats happening in Haiti, while of talking about the efforts involved. John King suck as an interviewer. He lets people get away with all manner of lies and doesn't challenge anyone.

gonf's picture

He's a self censoring weasel. That and operating as a corporate tool for his masters keeps him totally unreliable as a truth teller. I'd rather watch paint dry than waste it watching sunday shows.

Is it the 21st century yet?

Mugsy's picture

According to Bill Kristol on FnS, the fact Chris Brown is leading in "the bluest blue state" shows just how unpopular health care reform is.

Addendum: Krauthammer] "He [brown] is running as the guy who can stop health care."

PLEASE listen to the interview with George W. Bush and Bill Clinton hosted by John King. Right out the gate George questioned the validity of sending money to Haiti, then Clinton made a faux pas when he said "WE" when speaking of fixing Haiti's economy, as in "WE will have to change things now"......which once again proves the U.S. was in charge of much of the mismanagement that has wracked this country through our "changing coaches", but far more depressing than Clinton's faux pas was listening to Bush. Holy shit, you'll hear a much more convincing argument at work or in a bar. The defensive posture and disconnected rambling in attempts to answer simple questions brought forth all the obvious Bush talking points (attack the messenger, bring up faith, mention how he has a "focus" on helping and how these two will SAFEGUARD YOUR DONATION) ....was eerily connected to Presidential coachings when near a microphone.

He sounds like an ex boxer (tomato can) or a drunk or a combination of the two

had not been born to wealth and influence, if he'd had to make his way on his own talents and intellect, he'd be as dirt poor as any Haitian, yet he has utter contempt for poor people. No, I will not listen to george w bush. Sorry, I just can't.

Karen Hughs caught my eye this morning.
What a vile lying bottom feeder she is.( That took alot to not use profanity. Cause she sure does deserve it)

What is your conceptual, continuity?

gonf's picture

Vile indeed. It's hard to believe cretins like her have the guts to show their faces in public.

In the kitchen and I heard KH saying Obama campaigned as a centrist, but is governing from the far left.
My head almost exploded when she said that. There are a lot of Democrats that would argue with her lies.
Just more evidence that they lie through their teeth. They count on a dumbed down populace. They need a dumbed down society. W/O it they would be a thing of the past.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

gonf's picture

Exactly right.

Obama is acting rw on military matters as far as I'm concerned. Who does Hughs think she's kidding?

Is it the 21st century yet?

mudshark's picture

Then, we're all wrong here. All of us.
Maybe it's because she helped take the GOp so far to the right, that the center looks so far away, that she thinks it's the far left. From where she sits, she can't even see the far left.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Haiti . . Food security collapses in Haiti as machete-wielding gangs fight in the streets

Wherever you live, your city is just one natural disaster away from total chaos. Even in America, a civil, law-abiding city of people can be turned into looting, stealing and dangerously armed bands of gang-bangers.

Do you have the means to procure clean water if the water system breaks down? Do you have a way to provide shelter for yourself and your family if there's no electricity or heating fuel available? Can you physical defend yourself and your family against aggressive marauders desperately searching for food? (Or do you have enough to share with them? If so, how will you share with the hundreds or thousands that follow in their footsteps?)

Karen Hughes on MtP let out this whopper:

Rebuking John Podesta, Karen Hughes said "George Bush", not President Obama, "deserves credit for rescuing the economy before President Obama ever took office" because "he passed TARP."

Funny how the guy who DESTROYED the economy deserves credit for SAVING it, according to Hughes.

These ideologues will go to their graves trying to re-write the Bush legacy.

Just watched a few minutes of MTP.

Woodward heralded the ability of our leaders, Bush and Clinton (and our country) to come together in times of crisis (Haiti) and how it shows the world how great America is etc. But he contrasts that to the partisan political vitriol coming from BOTH the Right and the Left on this issue. What?

Woodward needs to explain the equivalence of the hate being spewed by the mainstream right to what any single lefty is saying. Have I missed something?

Then David Gregory asks Bush about "people" saying that Obama is Politicizing the Haiti Crisis. What? What am I missing here, Mr. Gregory? Which "people" exactly are saying that besides divisive, partisan Republican hacks who, coincidentally, happen to be politicizing the crisis?

BTW, George Bush ham-handedly indicted the majority of charitable organizations with his warning against shyster fund raising groups. I'm pretty sure he even used the word "shyster".

At the same time, was he also inadvertently reinforcing Limbaugh's claim that you can't trust donating to Obama's appeal for funds? At the risk of being accused of partisanship during a time of crisis I must ask; didn't that concern originate with Limbaugh in the first place? And why did George Bush have to use this forum to sound this warning? Should we be that concerned about the "shysters", as George Bush called them?
