What If You Threw A Tea Party, And No One Came?
The best laid plans...
Our newest contributer, Karoli, has audio from the teabaggers celebrating the RNC sign donations, which Heather reported on for VideoCafe yesterday:
But even after all that official RNC support, okay, not official but still party-sanctioned, okay not party-sanctioned but still paid for by the RNC (or whatever their excuse is today), the tea-baggers seem to be petering out...
Pointing to preliminary turnout numbers at today's rally on Congress, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) argued that the momentum behind the Tea Party movement had waned as lawmakers approach a final, decisive vote on health reform.
The DNC said its own head count of today's rally estimated about 300 attendees, well below the 1-1.5 million a Tea Party organizing group, FreedomWorks, had estimated in attendance for its Sept. 12, 2009 rally on the Capitol. (Other media outlets had estimated between 60,000 to 75,000 in attendance for those rallies.)
For its part, FreedomWorks pegged today's attendance as closer to 1,000, a number which they said could be even higher since the rally was organized at the last minute, and because many people in town skipped the rally to go directly to lobby lawmakers.
Hold on there, FreedomWorks, facts are pesky things. I contacted a friend who is a Senate staffer to ask about the tea party protests from Capitol Hill and this is what he wrote back:
I didn't see anyone in the office buildings on the Senate side but walked out of the Russell Office Building to see a raucous crowd protesting loudly, a tight knot of maybe about 250-300. Only problem for the Tea Partiers: the protesters were a group calling for better public transportation in America.
The only Tea Party representation I saw was a single guy in yellow "smiley face" shorts, purple shirt, and blue wizard's cap holding a sign saying, "Nancy Pelosi Spits In The Face Of America." I know the action was planned to be on the House side, but there was nothing at all over on the North side of our august Capitol ...
Ooopsies! No fair taking credit for non-tea party protesters, FreedomWorks. In the interest of accuracy, a House staffer, with whom I confirmed this account, had this to say:
Smiley shorts guy has been there everyday for the last month.
In fact, Huffington Post has a picture of him, and it appears his shirt is green (resembling a character from Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc, and his hat is the same as Mickey's from Fantasia), so the Senate staffer may have some issues with color recognition or the tea-bagger may be conducting his own separate non-tea party protest against Disney.
Not to be deterred by the dismal turnout and weakening talking points, a spokesperson for FreedomWorks offers a rosy prediction for their continued relevance:
"For those who are dismissing, I would say the only date that matters is Nov. 2nd," said Rob Jordan, the vice president for federal and state campaigns at FreedomWorks. "You can count on people showing up for that day."
Whatever you say, buddy.

Aw shucks, just when I thought they were really going to take over the GOP.
I'm sure there will be some crazy in store for our future.

Classy ass teabagger assholes.
I am never surprised anymore about the lack of humanity in the anti-healthcare crowd. The healthcare organizations have done a masterful job of manipulating ordinary people. It's amazing how many fallacies are in that video, including the one where the anti-bill guy says, "You've gotta work for it." Well, people who aren't working aren't the problem. There are healthcare programs for the indigent. The problem is the working poor who don't have healthcare, or those who work but are denied coverage because of preexisting conditions or because their HMO just refuses. I totally agree with you, x mil, total lack of class. Yet just a generation ago, these WASPs protesting healthcare were looked up to and admired as the pillars of their community (or their parents were). Feet of clay.
congressional idiots-Bachmann and etc.. tricks to make the turnout look bigger...These repubs may have backed the wrong horse --as per hayward!
10,000 showed up to demostrate against the issurers in DC last week and no media coverage!
... and 300 transportation demonstrators came? Really? I thought the teabaggers would be out there plugging at least until the healthcare vote.
I saw some footage played endlessly on MSNBC last night, and it was immediately obvious that every single shot was a tight close up. Never did anyone ever see the whole group in a wide shot.
This is done intentionally by 'journalists' to make a crowd look bigger than it is: by never showing a wide shot, you can never see the edges of the group and therefore never get a perspective on the size of the crowd. By staying in closeups the whole time, any number can be used for the size of the crowd and the pictures can not refute that, no matter how big or small the crowd actually is.
It's past time for for liberals to start calling out the media for lending credibility to this tiny group of tantrum throwing imbeciles.
THEY ARE NOT A LEGITIMATE POLITICAL MOVEMENT. THEY ARE A FREAK SHOW MADE UP OF A TINY PINHEAD OF THE POPULATION.
300 whole people for their huge rally? What a joke.
Enough already. They are a joke and need to be treated with the scorn they deserve.
I tried to be extra snarky...
As usual.

These f*cktards have the attention span of dead people!
The Teabaggers are done. Good riddance, and thanks for all the crazy.
Maybe they are getting caught up in the cold hard reality that they don't have health insurance that covers what they thought it would cover and had to be in bankruptcy court today, or maybe they are behind on their house payments that are underwater, or maybe they don't have any money to make the trip because they are either out of work or they blew it all on the Sarah Palin palm reading convention.

This evening I was polled by CBS/NYTimes live telephone call:
Do I approve/disapprove of the way Obama is handling the economy?
How would I rate the state of the U.S. economy?
How much have you read about the Tea Party movement?
Do you consider yourself a supporter of the Tea Party movement?
Is the country headed in the right direction or the wrong direction?
May a reporter call you back?

“Brooks Brother’s Brigade” is the name given to the group of Repub operatives that were flown into Miami for the purpose of disrupting the vote count in Nov of 2000. They were organized by “Congressman Kick-Ass” John Sweeney. They got their way by being very loud, and obnoxious. And they were every bit as grassroots as the Tea-Baggers. Then as now, everybody was urged to come on down and show support for the good ‘ole boys.
Good ‘ole boys my ass.
Brooks Brothers doesn’t play as well with this group though. Same tactics. Same intent. Same organization; this time it’s Dick’s Armey, not Sweeney’s. But you might as well call this group the Dwindling Dipshits. Fewer and fewer are stupid enough to play along. As for the idiots that are left (the one’s NOT in the suits), they don’t even know for whom they are working. At least the Brooks Brother’s Brigade knew.
Idiots.

"For those who are dismissing, I would say the only date that matters is Nov. 2nd," said Rob Jordan, the vice president for federal and state campaigns at FreedomWorks. "You can count on people showing up for that day."
Rob: you can bet your stupid ass that progressives will show up too if nothing else to remind you that your arrogant boasting about how powerful and important you are is utter bullshit, just like the tea party movement, a movement populated with mentally deranged cranks and social misfits.
You pathetic bastards lie with impunity every day and don't regret a bit of it. In the end, you will get exactly what you deserve.
Political oblivion.
"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."
Robert F. Kennedy
If Tea Party ranks are thinning it's because they realise the movement has been hijacked. Government distrust is still growing, and not receiving a tax refund doesn't help! The anger will be felt come election day.
...winning elections is a lot more effective than screaming as loud as possible after the GOP loses the election.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
am I going to do with the half million petit fours I baked for the tea party. And the thirty tons of chamomile? The bastards RSVP'd dammit.
Hasa Diga Eebowai
Better yet what if they gave an orgy and no one came?
The truth will set you free but can you handle the truth?

"What If You Threw A Tea Party, And No One Came?"
It could mean that there are MAD TIN-FOIL HATTERS' out there someplace, laying-low, until their next blow... kinda like the Taliban. Enjoy the moment ♥
You want to diffuse their synergy... Make pot an issue!
Study the symptoms not the virus...
They're confused and frustrated old, white working-class people. I'd
be willing to bet that most of the Tea crazies have no idea what's in
the Health Care Bill, and don't really care. They're angry with their
lives, and words like "liberty" and "freedom" are used to vent that
anger. Obama, being black, is especially galling to them. First, he's
black and he's president. Second, he's intelligent, well-spoken, a
Harvard Law grad, and successful. They hate him with a bitterness that
froths up from the emptiness and sadness of their own lives, from
their multiple failures and disappointments, from the confusion and
stupidity that characterizes who they are and what they do. For one
brief shining moment they can turn all that, catch the eye of the
media and bask in the glow of the attention they get. They have an
identity, even if they don't have a purpose. I pity the poor little
freaks. I'll bet most of them aren't even registered voters, and will
never vote because they never have.
Many of the conservaloons are life long criminals who've lived on other's misery that they caused. Look at McCain for an example. Robbed Savings & Loans with the help of the Bush brothers, Arizona in the 80's. They made many old people homeless.
President Daddy Bush cleaned the records. McCain boo hooed on tv for a half hour and all was forgiven, because he was a snake like them.

>>>>>>> Whatever you call them, they would make Darwin question evolution... <<<<
Part of evolution is the existence of the weak, the stupid, and the "otherwise useless to the improvement of the species" types. At one time, that would be short beaks when long were needed, or relatively short legs when the average tide is rising.
In the current crop of humans, they carry signs, cluster in small (albeit loud) groups, and clearly have emerged from the shallow end of the gene pool. Now if there were something we could put into their food or drink that would keep them from breeding....... of course, time and the aging process have taken most of their leadership out of breeding competition, but there are still some....
are an exercise in restraint. Sometimes I have to just hit the record button and walk away.
I use a phone with a great device for dealing with automated calls. It has a "receiver" at the end of a cord. When I detect the stench of mendacity, I align the "receiver" in a horizontal position and place is firmly but gently into the "cradle" on the top of the box that lives at the other end of the cord.
If there is a human on the line, I try to be polite, but if they get too pushy, I have this little whistle I bought at the sporting goods store.......
..merely raucous crowd of dozens is being given headlines all the while infrastructure is breaking down, war criminals walk the street and politicians can't put the one thing with teeth, the Public Option, into a bill that would really help Americans with health care?
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
"Jenny Craig" should be handing out flyers, most of the crowd especially the women look like they could stand to lose 80-100 lbs!
Did anyone else see the one that read "V: The lizards don't really want to help us"? Link
I don't understand.
Excuses, excuses. They were too busy doing other things to attend. Yeah, right. They're movement is slowly dying.
