PS. The Weblog Awards voting has started. In an embarrassment of riches, Crooks and Liars is competing with its own writers David Neiwert (Orcinus) and Blue Gal (Blue Gal) for Best Liberal Blog. That embarrassment of riches is why I come here every day.

and I'm not saying who I voted for! Hah!

(That wouldn't be prudent, you know.)

even on the first night, that our Driftglass is behind in the votes to a Pajamas Media blogger. I have no problem losing to John Amato myself (happens every day lol). - BG

The Anchoress is beating Driftglass? I checked out that site in case I was missing something awesome. I wasn't. Whose tabulating votes for this thing? Diebold? The thing that really disturbs me is that I might have to throw David and you under a metaphorical bus to do my part in putting C&L in the position it deserves to be. I am conflicted.

I voted for driftglass!

But only because Ysbadadden's name wasn't up there. ;)

Cancer Cured For Good

By Bill Sardi and Timothy Hubbell
October 2008

It works 100% of the time to eradicate cancer completely, and cancer does not recur even years later. That is how researchers describe the most convincing cancer cure ever announced.

The weekly injection of just 100 billionths of a gram of a harmless glyco-protein (a naturally-produced molecule with a sugar component and a protein component) activates the human immune system and cures cancer for good, according to human studies among breast cancer and colon cancer patients, producing complete remissions lasting 4 and 7 years respectively. This glyco-protein cure is totally without side effect but currently goes unused by cancer doctors...

Deserves the award for his piece on the Bush Family connections with the Nazi's.

I don't see enough of this type of investigative journalism here at C&L.

The Anthrax Case has all but been forgotten. Election Reform hardly gets mentioned. And history such as the Bush Family history and the history of war crimes, terrorism, and false flag terrorist attacks don't get nearly enough attention. Good on ya David.

Who is doing the investigation and who is prosecuting? New

You all seem to forget about the attorney generals that were fired. Wasn't one of them from New Mexico? Wasn't he fired because he didn't go for phoney voter fraud cases? Who replaced him, another loyal Bushie? Wake the fuck up.
This could be another KKKarl Rove phoney set up. Remember Don Siegelman?

What about the investigation of Jeff Gannon, Armstrong Williams, and other media complicity with the same criminal class that runs this country. The fact that some of the 9/11 highjackers trained in the U.S. and are claimed to be alive and well according to the BBC etc.

Blair to accept top US medal in Bush's last week in office

Tony Blair is to receive the United States's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, from his friend George Bush next Tuesday, at a White House ceremony during the latter's last week in office.
...

Fine Christian fellow he is.

That is a pair I wouldn't want to draw to.

Destroying our Country while the majority of us sit and wait and stare and do nothing.

Blair will find himself among others he will recognise. Donald Rumsfeld received the medal in 1977 for his original period in administration service; vice-president Dick Cheney got his in 1991; and President Bush has previously awarded other prominent figures involved in the Iraq campaign - Paul Bremer, the US's former director in Baghdad, General Tommy Franks, and George Tenet, former director of the CIA.

Blair was previously also awarded the US's other highest civilian honour, the Congressional Gold Medal, in 2003, for his support of the US invasion of Iraq, though he has never collected it.

He will receive next week's award alongside John Howard, the former Australian prime minister, and Álvaro Uribe, the president of Colombia. A White House spokeswoman said the three were being honoured by the president "for their efforts to promote democracy, human rights and peace abroad".

"freedom", based on the awarding of such an honor to these thieves of it.

Cheney et al have used 1984 as an instruction manual.

Hell, even Bush's constant butchering of the English language could be seen as his attempt to come up with an equivalent of Newspeak.

"for their efforts to promote democracy, human rights and peace abroad".

Promote democracy: install dictator or corrupt leader.
Human rights: establish torture as routine.
Peace abroad: permanent war.

Yup, sure sounds like something that George Orwell would write.

While I'm at it, I should write the Bakersfield Californian this week congratulating UPS for doing the right thing, and mentioning that a lot of the bigots in Kern County are getting negative mentions in international/internet media (*coughProp8cough*)and that when local people stand for hate, the more disgusted other people look upon our behavior...

it's a new day. Taking a leaf from Blagojevich my blogging votes are up for bid. Bidding is restricted to C&L's marvelous staff. The opening minimum bid is a "Get out of moderation free" card. We'll take it from there. Do I see a C&L coffee mug?

Nothing? I should have known you people were incorruptible.

It would be nice for Obama to invite a cultural anthropologist to put the meaning of the invocation into perspective.

Exclusive analysis, Part 1: The staggering cost of new nuclear power. - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2009/1/5/163...
A new study puts the generation costs for power from new nuclear plants at from 25 to 30 cents per kilowatt-hour -- triple current U.S. electricity rates
Nuclear is not an option....let me repeat that...nuclear power is not an option. Its insanely dangerous, uninsurable, destructive to environment, and uses tremendous amounts of water (which is running out)...

MUST SEE.....Flow: Who Owns the World’s Water? by Jessica Mosby - http://thewip.net/contributors/2009/01/flow_w...
After seeing the new documentary Flow, my 2009 New Year's resolution is to stop buying bottled water. Over $100 billion is spent annually on bottled water, but it would cost only $30 billion to provide clean drinking water to the entire world. Unlike tap water, bottled water is not regulated for cleanliness. And don't even get me started on the mountains of plastic bottles created by the bottled water industry. For 84 terrifying and informative minutes, filmmaker Irena Salina makes a very persuasive case for stopping the commoditization of water and ensuring that everyone has access to clean drinking water.
While Flow is a wake-up call that documents all that is wrong with the world's attitude toward water, the film also profiles a number of technologies that could dramatically improve international access to clean drinking water at a nominal cost.

Sempra solar energy project makes advances in costs - http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-thinsol...
A veteran analyst has calculated that the facility can produce power at a cost of 7.5 cents a kilowatt-hour, less than the 9-cent benchmark for conventional electricity. If that's so, it marks a milestone that renewable fans have longed for: "grid parity," in which electricity from the sun, wind or other green sources can meet or beat the price performance of such carbon-based fuels as coal and natural gas. "We now have an alternative-energy source that can actually deliver cost-competitive electricity with no subsidies," said Mark Bachman, senior equity analyst for Pacific Crest Securities in Portland, Ore.

Looking at the local level, it seems as if the nearly three decades that Reaganomics has been allowed to survive, if not thrive, have been enough to allow the trickle-down theory to come to fruition. Unfortunately, it is debt -- and not wealth --that has been trickling.

The PT Barnum Factor in American Healthcare: One Prescription at a Time - http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/01/05
But we've also got a system that's a messy mix of profit-taking and misinformation that makes it nearly impossible for the vast majority of patients to truly advocate for themselves in any way that could be relied upon as a cost containment strategy. And the profit-taking and dishonesty is bursting the public programs like Medicare that otherwise provide the best model for reform - and that's also a truth we're often not told. We've become the suckers born every minute in the circus tent of U.S. healthcare. And it's costing patients and the nation billions and billions of dollars - and an awful lot of lives. For that we are all responsible.

A brand new investigation of the Bush family reveals a religious narrative that strays from the official story circulated to supporters and the press. How many conversions did George W. actually have and why? How did a blue-blooded Episcopalian family come to represent the evangelicals of America?
