I wish Arnold would take a hint from Palin and just quit

If you didn't see John McCain's weasel defense of Sarah Palin quitting her position as Governor after he vouched for her character when he chose her to be his VP, you should. David Gregory even listed his own political history, which included scandals, personal attacks and being tortured to list a sort of character building for not quitting, and asked again, "How could she just quit?" His responses were very weird. Palin threw in the towel when it got rough and walked away from the voters of Alaska to make a fortune of doubloons.

If anybody should quit a governorship, it should be Arnold because he's led the great state of California into financial ruin in tandem with the legislature. Is California worse off than Alaska? You betcha. Did Arnold quit? No...I kinda wish he would.

John, let's put blame where blame is due. Yeah, Arnie's not the brightest bulb in the socket, but he's had a lot of help getting California where it is right now. The real problem is the fouled up legislative system that allows mob rule in the state. Until we fix that, ain't no one going to be able to fix this, no how.

Arnie had NOT promised to end state investigations into Enron in a 2001 meeting with Ken Lay, effectively perpetuating the problems started by Pete Wilson's deregulation of the electricity industry in the 80s.

Yes! Also, remember the 'girly man' remark? It's true there are a lot of structural problems with the state. But we need someone with more real leadership skills.

Terminate yourself, girly-gov.

Grandma Millie got ripped off, then was conned into voting for this POS (Puke on steroids)

...that California's real budget problems started back in 1978 when Howard Jarvis and Paul Gann spearheaded the Proposition 13 property tax revolt, which not only cut residential but also corporate property tax to a fraction of what was collected?

I realize Wikipedia is sometimes a wonky place for research, but the gist of what damage Prop. 13 has caused can be skimmed over in "Negative Effects" at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)

But Disneyland pays like 5$ a square foot, something out of the 50's even today.

?

Where is the current state of California's buget right now? Not alot of news on it.

In the toilet. State started issuing IOU's on the 1st.

Here's the link:

Also, a friend in L.A. sent me this link from today's Los Angeles Times regarding Mexico as a "failed state". She said, "It's kind of unnerving living this close to the border..."

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world...

hey, mclameass (mccain) here's a big hint,
like in the movie SOYLENT GREEN,
it's time for you to go HOME and NOW!!!

Johnny mad! Johnny smash!

I'll stick to Soylents Red and Yellow, thank you.

)O(

sarah threw in her sanitary towel?

so he has already started the downside and started saving money in a weird way, by not paying people and making them work. Don't know what to say to that.

)O(

Why not divide the state up into Thirds ?
Southern ( or MexCalifornia )
Middle Earth California
and
Northern California !!
6 Senators !!!
Same or maybe 1 or 2 more Congressmen !!
What a Trip!

Two words: Ronald Reagan.

Two more: Pete Wilson.

See, it could be worse....

McCain whines that Palin has suffered the worst 'sustained, personal family attacks' he's ever seen in his lifetime?!?! He must have been napping throughout the Clinton administration.

Whenever an Austrian gets in charge of a foreign government, they have a tradition of ran their adoptive states into the ground. Examples:

Hitler, Marie Antoinette, and now Ahnold.

Bruno for Governor of CA!

.

Who is this Bruno guy? He's everywhere. (overseas here)

I will again:

The reason we always seem surprised by the crap they pull is because we keep expecting them to act based on the same values we base our decisions on.

THEY DO NOT SHARE OUR VALUES; therefore, their decisions will always be different than ours.

Of course McCain is weaseling here; truth is irrelevant - that's OUR value. Getting ahead at all costs, especially through lies and manipulation, is totally acceptable because winning is their only value - and how they win is every bit as irrelevant as the truth is to them.

So, when weasel-boy Eric Cantor twists himself into pretzels pretending that it just doesn't matter of Sanford and Ensign are lying, cheating, thieving adulterers, after Clinton's adultery mattered so very much, it's because, once again, they have different values.

Adultery per se doesn't matter to these braying jackasses, any more than Palin walking away from the governorship matters. What matters to them, their only real value, is being able to make a stink about someone else - over adultery or whatever - just make an endless stink over something, and then use that to further their own careers. To win at all costs. No matter what.

It's really that simple. We make it complicated when we try to fit their acts into our values.

What matters to them, and what their only real value is, is getting their way and winning. Therefore, they can say anything, tell any lie, break any law, cheat any person, whatever they want - as long as they are still in the game at the end of the day.

As long as they still have their snouts firmly in the public trough and their d**ks in any available orifice while they continue to have power and a lifetime of great benefits and wealth; it's a good day.

Palin quit because she correctly assessed that quitting keeps her in the game. She will live to fight and profit more by quitting than staying and that was her truly acting on her values. The citizens and the state of Alaska are irrelevant - only Sarah winning matters. She sees quitting as pulling a victory out of losing the election, and for her, that's right. Too bad for Alaskans - or maybe not, since they probably will be better off without her.

McCain sees this as CYA. He isn't burning the Bridge to Sarah just in case she does pull something off and he ever needs her, so that HE can keep on winning.

We gotta quit thinking they share our values. They do not. Look at everything they do as being based on nothing except their need to win at all costs and it all becomes clear.

we are constantly dissapointed because we see them through our point of reference. It is nearly if not totally impossible to see who and what they are through our eyes. I don't think we are equiped. It would involve throwing out everything we were brought up as and told, since our childhood. They see "us" as no more than the suckers requesting entrance to P.T. Barnum's side show.

McCain has nothing to say. He gave a bullshit answer on the Cheney question...which made me ask...WHY WAS HE ASKED ON THE SHOW. He gave the Sgt. Schulz answer..."I know nothing...NOTTTTING!"

Gregory is a putz. He thinks just putting McCain on, is gonna fix his ratings.

It was a Sunday Morning Putz Parade.

That's why he got the gig. It was in the bag for him after he danced with MC Rove. Russert must be spinning.

Russert would think, "I taught him well! GOTCHA!!!!"

dancing in public with Rove. Not that.

a.) Californians voted for the propositions that are the central cause of the financial problems.

b.) Californians voted to not fix any of the problems with either spending decreases or tax increases.

c.) Californians voted for Arnie. Twice.

d.) Californians voted for the current legislature.

No matter how you cut this, it ultimately is the fault of Californians.

... alas, the USA elected Bush twice. So I assume in the end the last 8 years of hubris is ultimately the fault of Americans.

The California Republican party is the gift that keeps on giving. Founded by people like Leland Stanford, who gave us among other things the wonderful concept of "personhood" for corporations. Followed by great Cali GOPers like Nixon, Pete Wilson, Raygun, and now Ahnold. Each of them trying to outdo their predecessors when it comes to run California into the ground.

No need to assume the past 8 years was ultimately the fault of American voters, it most certainly was. But there is great cultural tendency for us to try and shift the blame, rather than accept responsibility.

That there are so many innocent by standers who are negatively impacted by such policies, should serve as an incentive to the well informed to better educate their fellow citizens.

the "winner takes all" electoral system in this country (and Cali) sort of makes it moot trying to blame all Californians for this f*ck up.

That it is a magoritarian system, does not at all make it uncertain who is to blame for Californians problems. It is rather out of scope to complain about majoritarianism, when that is the system and there is effectively no movement whatsoever trying to alter that system. A majority of Californians are directly to blame for the situation, and a minority are indirectly to blame because they have failed to present a compelling explanation or alternative to the majority.

If you really believe the majority of Californians are morons, and it's simply not possible for the minority of adults to take control of the situation, then what you have in that state is mayhem. You might as well take a bath on your house now while you can, and leave the state before it gets worse.

But

there are movements that are trying to alter 'majoritarianism'. You're just ignoring them.

..he was appointed once by his Daddy's appointment to the SCOTUS!
He still didn't capture a significant majority in 2004 to convince me that he was the preferred candidate! All he got was enough electoral votes which is all he was after any way. The popular vote didn't matter to W.
For good or bad, I would have loved to have seen a Gore or a Kerry administration.
It wasn't our fault that so many Americans bought the BS shoveled by the GOP.

the disenfranchised voteers in Ohio and New Mexico. Also the unchecked voting machine counts.

... I was just taking issue with whatever it was good for the goose (blaming all Californians for this mess) should also be good for the gander (blaming all Americans for Bush's f*ck ups).

I'm a Californian, and I didn't vote for any of this. Heck, I wasn't even old enough to vote for most of it when it came to pass. And now I'll never be able to earn enough salary or accrue enough savings to move out, if necessary. I'm just a peasant, impaled on the spear of authoritarian conservative hubris.

I've never been able to figure out why so many of my fellow Californians vote correctly, or at least semi- correctly, when it comes to the Fed (Presidential elections, Senatorial elections), but when it comes to our own state government, they turn into complete morons.

No?

No...what's not funny is Meet The Mess.

It's a travesty. The network should think about putting on ChamWow or spray on hair infomercials.

At least they'll get viewers.

A good number of the people that attempt to watch the Sunday morning news actually HAVE brains, and I'm really tired of having my intelligence insulted every week.

"the party of Theodore Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan"?!? First of all, today's Republicans seem to eschew the values espoused by Roosevelt and Lincoln. Second, St. Ronnie's name should never be mentioned in the same breath with those two great men. Ick. The more I hear McCain pontificate, the more nauseated I feel. Pardon me while I go hurl.

Watch the shoes! I need to wear them two more years! Don't you realize how hard it is to get "reaction to Republican crapola" out of fabric? The stink stays for years...

McCain has Cindy's fortune, Ahnold has Maria's.

Poor little Palin (or Todd) has no fortune. That's the reason.

What's funny is that the DC weirdos actually understand this -- and approve.

"Sarah Palin doesn't know what tough media is." Rex Grossman

Palin was a JOURNALISM major....!

At SEVERAL universities!!!

... quit, quit again.

Arnold inherited a selfish and shortsighted electorate which has already done the heavy lifting with respect to California's demise.

I think Palin quit just to add to the unemployment numbers and make the Obama administration look bad. Yeah, that's the ticket. Palin quit because golly gee, this governorin' thing was getting to be hard work and hell if she was going to break a nail doing it. Why not just walk away and get people to hand you money for speaking to them. Yeah, that keeps you and your family out of the spotlights for sure.

I think its all about the $$$$$$.

CNN is reporting:

Palin PAC raises $730K in six months.

I am confused about the numbers...

SarahPAC raked in $732,867 from the beginning of the year through June 30. The former GOP vice presidential candidate's PAC further reported more than $450,000 cash on hand with no debts owed.

According to the report, the PAC has only made two political contributions this year: $5,000 to John McCain's Senate reelection bid and $5,000 to Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski's effort.

Palin's largest expenditure, just over $100,000, was to Virginia fundraising firm Edonation.com.

732,000 - 110,000= 450,000 !!!!! Republican math.

SarahPAC was flush at the beginning of the year. It could easily have been in debt having just completed the presidential campaign. I don't know that it was but I'm just sayin..

No.

"SarahPAC" was formed in January 2009.

SarahPAC: Sarah Palin 2012 President Bid Begins as a Political Action Committee
Date: January 27, 2009, money to help other Republicans in their political endeavors.

Expenses. You know, clothing, shoes, accessories, travel, maverick tack, etc.

She had to pay for her brand new waders, makeup artist and publicity for her authentic fishing trip.

..some people are Prop 13 proponents. Some people have Prop 13 thrust upon them.

the people of california did. i lived in LA at the time and you couldn't talk sense to anyone. most people thought it would be so neat if the terminator was governor.

epic fail.

2003
4,206,284 votes 48.6%

2006
4,850,157 55.9%

more candidates in the race in 2003?

Yes

It was a circus. There were a lot of people pushing for that chair. So it's not surprising he got more votes the second time around. Doesn't mean he was more popular, though.

In absolute numbers, he was less popular. But overall there were fewer participants in the 2006 election. And in the first election there were two Republicans running for governor.

This McCain has GOT NOTHING! I can see it in his face. In his eyes! He is a turtle on the fencepost... perhaps even more so than GWB (if you can wrap your mind around that). All he has is that he was in the military... BIG F*n DEAL! Every time he is interviewed he spews out the same old tired Republican TRIPE plugs that they all toss out there ion hopes that they stick to something. ANYONE who falls for the shallow and hollow (dare I say?) talking points from these ass-clowns have got to be either drunk or spiritually desperate.

Because if you're not, I have to wonder. So it's okay for an elected official to pull that kind of shit when YOU want him to? Tsk-tsk. Shame, shame, John. That's exactly the sort of shit the wingnuts run around saying. And it's the kind of crap that got us Ah-nult in the first place. If they'd just left well enough alone and let Gray Davis finish his term, the Big Man would never have ended up in Sacramento.

But really, John, be fucking honest. California was not sunk by the Governator - we've been sliding down the tubes for decades. Davis was having a very hard time himself, which is what opened the door to the recall. What's killing this state is not who's in the Governor's Mansion, but the combination of that ridiculous 2/3rds vote rule, and the goddamn insane propositional government we've got. Until those get corrected, it won't ever matter who's nominally in charge, and the governor will always be a figurehead who can't possibly make things better.

Schwarznegger is a very convenient target since he's disappointed practically everybody but the really rich in this state. But he was never able to fix things, no matter what he did, and neither would anyone else in that chair. What we need is a complete re-write of the process here, probably with the impetus of the feds, who are going to get tired of helping our insane asses out of our mess. Until that happens, the Governorship will be a game of musical chairs, with the winner being pelted with tomatoes as the prize.

... Cali's f*cked up propositional system does not reduce the blame on the reign of hubris by Mr. Olympia.

Blame can multitask...

If you get off on assigning blame. But when NO ONE can do the job because of how fucked up California is, I think blame is a waste of time. If we elect a liberal next time, HE (or she) won't be able to fix things either. What'll you do then, piss on the liberal?

We have to fix the State government so things actually CAN get done, one way or the other. THEN we can throw rocks at the guy in the chair. Otherwise, we're just scapegoating, and that's a waste of time AND attention.

What CA really needs is a state Constitutional Convention.

I bet it takes at least 2/3 of the legislature and the Governor's pen to make it happen, though. Or maybe a Proposition.

Hmm…

)O(

Aren't propositions what got both Eddie Murphy and Hugh Grant arrested?

And just imagine how much worse the selection in governorship is going to get as time goes on? California will end up with goons for governors, why else would anyone sane want to take the job when their hands are tied this tightly?

Yep

It really chaps my ass, too, because this is a pretty cool place to live. (Well, except in the summertime.) That it's been fucked in the ass by so many politicos is maddening.

I wish McCain would take hint from Palin and quit! or take a hint from just about everyone else and quit.

Yes, why don't all the governors, elected by the people to run the government, all jump ship when the going gets tough. Hell why not the senators and congresscritters? Why not the president, too? Everyone just jump ship and let America sail toward the reef.

(Although America is still sailing toward the reef, so maybe... )

So

what was this 'America' that you speak of before it had politicians and was it 'sailing toward the reef'?

This Palin video is HILARIOUS!!! 5-star
The fun kicks off at 0:13

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mWqr8pb2MY&fe...

that there are hundreds, no, thousands of people in the great state of California that have ideas and plans that could fix this mess. I just wish the ones who are making it worse (*cough*Arnold*cough*) would step the hell aside and let the adults work.

Recall Arnold. Throw the bums out.

It will never quit.

"Listen, and understand ... It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever ..."

Nothing stops the Republicanazi Cheney Bots, except a large hydraulic press.

Nothing stops buschCo and their supreme all seeing "sky-net", except... accountability, justice, and a healthy DOJ and Administration.

There may never be a better time to let it all out of the bag. The health of the DOJ and Administration are are pretty good for the moment. I'm sure the economy will feel much better by it. I know i'm waiting for BuschCo to go to jail before i buy my HDTV with surround sound.

Oh, and i have a new couch and chair planned for after they convict Cheney.

I registered just to say "Amen!"

However, I don't blame California's problem solely on Arnold, even though he screwed things up the minute he stepped in by undoing the car tax. Unfortunately, not all of California is San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles and the small liberal counties and college campuses here and there. My friend took me to Galt of all places, which is near Sacramento, and that place was pretty conservative... which was another reason why my friend left that area. Those people and the idiots who thought it would be 'so cool' to vote for the Terminator are the reason why Arnold got into office in the first place.

I really wish Angelides was popular enough or had enough money to run against Arnold. Unfortunately, nowadays, it looks like you'll need to be a big name in order to be considered for the governorship.

But Arnold did go around saying he could "Stand up to the girly-men" to do what's right for California and he has never once stood up to anyone, he has caved on quite a few issues but I have yet to see a stance against anyonce unless you count the teachers the nurses and others he took money from and still couldn't help our economy. I really wish we had leadership in this state too, but I don't know who would run to replace Arnold who would be any better.

we are in some serious shit, but only because of the ignorance of the voters. The real trouble started a long time ago and people who vote without knowing the facts behind the issues or are voting to stop gays from get married or some other BS reason who help get these loosers elected, because the worst people run on the most nonsense and it seems like nonsense keeps getting re-elected. I don't know about you but I'm sick of it!

I hear that Sarah will be making a little trip down your way to do some speechifying before some Simi Valley Women's group.

Any chance you could sneak someone in to be a fly on the wall for that speech?

I would love to go, except they would discover me by my heckling.

Am I happy that dumb ass old senile man is not our President!

I guess it's a good thing that Bush stole Ohio from Kerry, because John Kerry could have never defeated Sara Palin and we would be in a world of hurt right now (or she would have just resigned)
