When I was in 8th grade...EVERYBODY wanted one of those jackets...
Over at Huffington, their lead story is about Palin's makeup. Fine. And they have a slide show of maybe 12 close-up shots of her face wearing her new Franklinesque rimless glasses. As I stepped through the photos I noticed that the lenses have no apparent magnification, even though they're curved. Any kind of distortion isn't apparent. Even in 3/4 shots where the lenses cover the edge of her partial profile.
Point being? Are the glasses for real or a prop to look "smarter"? Any optometrists out there who can "talk me down"?

I'm not sure that you'd see distortion unless there's a correction for astigmatism involved.

... but you see I wear glasses and I checked myself out in front of a mirror. My eyes appear slightly larger looking straight at the mirror and if I turn my head and get part of my profile through the lens, the "curve" of the cheek is broken by the lens. No big whoop. I just found it odd.
Again, any experts out there?

They may be called something else more technical...if I wore regular glass lenses...they'd easily be twice as thick as coke bottles.

Ya know...I don't know if this is a commentary on our "win at any cost" society...or a commentary about how frightened these idealogues are of change or even by the idea of REAL democracy...or if its a commentary on how easily our children are driven to fanaticism.
What i do know is the whole sordid thing is sad and scarey.
It would be nice if the focus was "talking about issues" instead of "talking about people who have issues".

According to the NY Times, it's Palin's makeup artist, who was paid $22,800 for the first two weeks of October alone. Her traveling hair stylist was paid $10,000 for two weeks.
In contrast, their chief policy advisor got $12,000 for the same time period. Guess you get what you pay for.

For much of this wealthy class, it becomes a game—more money equals more power. When times get tough, they ignore laws and morals and proceed to cheat, lie, and steal to make sure they stay ahead of the game. This is exactly where my problem arises. While they’re “playing” this game, Americans are living in poverty.

The Palins have taken advantage of Sarah's position as much as they can: Travel for the kids, the best hotels, per diem for living at home, personal vendettas using state employees, use of the Search and Ressue plane. One big welfare queen, that saucy Sarah.

We've seen pictures of Palin as Gov., and in debates while running for office - she obviously knew how to dress appropriately then.
The only thing I can figure is this: sex. Sex sells. The costumer for SNL noted that Palin didn't like what they had picked for her to wear because she had changed her look since she joined the campaign, and was now wearing her clothes tighter.
Now, why would a candidate who is known for her good looks and sex appeal suddenly start needing to wear tighter clothing that accentuates her figure more?

Have you seen her garb as Governor. That simply wouldn't do. However, I really cannot understand how they can justify spending $150k. My God, business suits don't cost that much, unless your are shopping exclusively in the designer section.
Apparently the Palin's income was $250,000 last year. According to a GOP talking head, "For a family of 7, that is not rich."

If they were planning to give the clothes to charity, what is Sarah going to wear on the Senate floor? Is she going back to wearing her mooseskin track suits in Washington, or will she buy an entirely new Washington wardrobe, or do the staffers saying "We'll give the clothes to charity after the campaign" just assume that they're going to lose?
