FBI forced to shift attention away from terrorism, towards financial fraud
By SilentPatriot Wednesday Dec 24, 2008 6:30amHow can you tell when the economy is in really bad shape? Maybe when FBI special agents go on record saying that terrorism is less of a threat to the United States than rampant financial fraud.
The FBI has engaged in “triage,” taking agents off terror and other crimes to respond to a cascade of financial frauds such as the alleged Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme, the head of the bureau’s New York criminal division said. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was forced to reallocate its manpower in New York to deal with recent frauds involving subprime mortgages, auction-rate securities and Madoff, who prosecutors said confessed this month to bilking investors out of $50 billion, FBI official David Cardona said in an interview.

the thought of some banker-types going to prison.
Of course, it will probably be "Club Fed" with tennis and golf.
It still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling though.
Why can't they do both? The FBI used to be able to concentrate on multiple fronts at once.
These guys can't multi-task!
Hey! This kind of talk just emboldens the enemy!
Also have to police vending machines. That's right. If you rob a vending machine, it is the FBI's job to go after you.
That's just retarded.
Paying them should be no problem, when you got a money printing press!
On the other hand, I suppose its just as well...
The FBI seems like a big failure when it comes to catching real terrorists anyway. ...along with the rest of our govt law enforcement agencies.
The only terrorists the FBI seem to have busted were some pizza delivery guys, some low I.Q Karate instructors, and a guy who wanted to take down the brooklyn bridge with a blowtorch. (and they had to set them up to do that!)
The anthrax attacks remain unsolved, and therefore the FBI sucks anyway.
Lets add the FBI to the list of Government alphabet agencies that suck.
DEA
FEMA
FEC
SEC
FDA
ATF
INS
FCC
CIA...FBI
in grover norquist's bathtub yet?
...you are hungry for some alphabet soup...
you could probly make a very large pot of soup in grovers bathtub!
Maybe they should trim some of these excess agencies, if everyone is belt-tightening.
The DEA gives $billions$ to other countries to prevent marijuana from ending up in the USA. They could go, for starters.
Probably a lot more loot than the automakers got.
...are equally as dangerous to the nation. Banker/felon to his cellmate "I'll send your family another thousand provided that you not violate me tonight." Lol.
Didn't we read not long ago that after 9-11 the FBI was pulled away from looking for financial fraud to work on terrorism. In that same article there was something about the FBI being told to back off messing with financial fraud after the Enron scandal.
the IRS closed it's white-collar crime unit and the FIB white-collar unit was re-directed to 'terrrrrrism'. then, after 6 years, they harrassed a man to death for anthrax he had no access to.
A terrorist can kill or cripple you; a banker with a lawyer can take your life. The hired help has been ignoring white collar crime for too long. It may be a case of too little too late.
Terrorism could never destroy the US; we could only be destroyed from within. We are seeing it happen now, not with guns, bombs and hijacked planes; but, with greed, corruption and cronyism. The plutocrats are too busy stuffing their own coffers to care about the impact on the rest of us or the country as a whole. Guantanamo may still be useful for these treasonous freeloaders.
the police and now the army.
This was the main goal of what the terrorist did, they wanted us to overreact. We did. And that's even if the terrorist planned this. The real terrorist wear expensive suits and live in mansions.
The F.B.I. can make its life a lot easier. Just use the Yellow Pages and find the address for the US Treasury and some guy named Paulson, then find the Federal Reserve and look up the other guy Bernanke. After they cuff the two of them, head over to the S.E.C. and pick up Chris Cox.
Bush was always fast on the trigger to say things like, we have to tap your phones for National Security reasons. We have to seal presidential papers because of National Security. We have to bailout banks, car makers and now home builders because their too big to fail. Really? Well Buuuuuush, where the hell was your F.B.I. when the nations citizenzs were being raped financially? What? You mean a countries collapsing finances doesn't fall into the category of National Security? Here's your legacy Mr. Buuuuuush. Your a putz and not a very bright one at that.
see grover norquist and PNAC for details.
As revisionists, they are masters of the cover up and that's all
...with too many things to do.
Perhaps we should rethink the War on Drugs, eh?

That guy that set up police officers in a bogus drug raid got the info back on the warrant. Totally illegal!
If FBI agents are like regular cops, where it takes 3 to 4 officers 30 minutes to ticket you for a burned out headlight.
Or last week a neighbor had his chimney catch on fire. The fire department came with one truck. How many cops does it take to watch a chimney fire get put out? FOUR. It takes four cops, 90 minutes to put out a chimney fire.
It takes one fire truck, two KLFD fire inspector SUV's, to respond to a contained fire in my yard and drive around the neighborhood for 30 minutes looking for the fire, spotlighting everyones yards...except mine, lol!
I managed to put the fire out as soon as I saw the firetruck pulling into my hood...then went inside and turn out all the lights and watched them search the neighborhood...
I couldn't believe someone called the fire department on me for having a very small CONTAINED fire...what a waste of time and money..
were going around the neighborhood playing pranks one night and they lit a fire, I had to call and tell them NOT to send a fire truck and waste county money because it would be out before they got here and before anyone else did because the old farts around the neighborhood would have had homeland security here
I'll add the reason why I had to call, the last time the kids pulled this they had 10 fire trucks, a helicopter and 15 squads for a fire about 2 feet high, you just have to beat the old paranoid people to the punch and call first
That is beyond ridiculous...
But good for you!!!
These people around here fell for the Republican bull hook, line and sinker, they call the kids gangsters when the biggest group together I've ever seen was three...big gang huh?
Authoritarianism is their bag man, they love it.
The two boxes of doughnuts they ate are probably a business expense, paid for by you.
I live in Canada so maybe I'm missing something that you people see in the US.
I remember that there used to be a threat level guage of some sort in the US and if I remember correctly there always seemd to be a reported higher threat level around Xmas and other holidays and often mention that an attack was imminent.
Was this "guage" as I'll call it used right up to Bush's second election victory and then never again after he somehow won? Does it still exist? Have terrorists completely stopped making threats now that a democrat has been elected president? Whatever happened to Anthrax?
The financial crisis. Red means find the nearest window.
Yes the terrorists were very intimidated by Barack's appearance and don't seem to be interested in messing with us anymore.
The Anthrax turned out to be a harmless powder. The persons that died from it had pre-existing conditions and simply over-reacted.
Las Vegas airport (thanks USAir...) and I heard that the threat level was still at orange. Granted, I only heard and/or saw this a couple of times, unlike a few years ago when it was blasted everywhere.
So if the threat level is still the same color, but it isn't screamed at me as often, should I still be as afraid...?
They say orange is the new pink. Or it was.
Didn't the Anthrax fraudster a US scientist or something top himself?
Talk about taking the eye off the ball. Finance criminals 'made-off' with billions while everyone was watching out for terrorists.
had a name for this hustle, I forget now
whoever did the anthrax probably did Rove's IT expert and maybe Wellstone.
FBI doing its job at last, huh?
This should be good . . . .
Who wants to bet that the Feds will end up catching a bunch of little guys and small businessmen?
will be a bunch of foreclosed home-mortgagers
Financial fraud is terrorism!
.
We need only label them economic terrorists, exchange their Brooks Brothers suits for some orange jumpsuits, and get them down to Guantanamo to splash a little water in their faces. They'll talk.
Maybe we can even get those 21 big bank presidents to tell AP what they've done with the $350 billion bail out.
I think you can add treason to that list too.
Time to go after the real terrorists, the ones with elite business degrees from Harvard, Yale and Wharton.
Put these bastards in Guantanamo and send the Arab POW's home.
Here's an idea: While we have the MBA Pukes incarcerated, lets teach them to do something other than trade worthless paper. Like welding, sheet metal work, drywall, carpentry...oh never mind, there are no longer any jobs in America for those skills.
These greedy crooks, Bush and family included, have terrorized our financial system. Use the FBI to catch them. Follow the money trail. Just like WATERGATE...Because these scum are the remains of that coup of gangsters. Send Plame and the CIA to get the outside terrorist. We have possibly 2 to 3,000 treasounous bastards to arrest, prosecute and hang. This is a very intense time in our history! It is no mistake....this is TREASON...Go "Untouchables"(FBI) and break the mob.
Thank you! These corporate terrorist are sitting back with their heels kicked up laughing their asses off.
Remember Arthur Anderson? Our government rationalized that prosecuting the corporate entity brought down an entire company and cost thousands of jobs. They said focus on legal proceedings would be towards individuals in the suspected company, rather than the company itself.
http://www.counterpunch.org/ccr12062006.html
"the Justice Department revise its prosecutorial guidelines so that firms are only prosecuted in exceptional circumstances of pervasive culpability throughout all offices and ranks."
in practice, it has all but eliminated effective criminal prosecution of corporations.
While KBR and Wall Street looted the US, Bush and Cheney shifted the FBI focus to any Muslim with a gun an an unworkable plan.
The FBI Director has turned a blind eye to fraud per orders of the White House for 8 years. Who ever the new Director of the FBI is first he'll have to arrest FBI agents committing crimes then go to the White House. Next will be the Branches of Govenment and then Big Business cronies of the GOP. Norquist is one of the biggest criminals and openly speaks pridely about it. The FBI is so corrupt the Director put an undercover agent on the Prosecutors team in the Ted Stevens case, making sure if the jurors found him guilty the agent could lie and get the case overturned. The Terrorist love the FBI as no one's looking for them as the FBI is busy working with the Bush Mafia.
maybe most of the terrorists are on Wall Street...
Look at the bright side. At least we've finally found the WMDs.
Does this mean it's safe to go on a killing spree now?
I remember a few years back when they shifted nearly 300 FBI agents from white collar crime to terrorism. So we shouldn't be surprised. Thank you Bush, now shut the door on your way out.
for needles in a haystack when there probably isn't a needle in the haystack was never a good idea. 7 years wasted.
We have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.
The first persons they should arrest is Phil Gramm & wife Wendy.
