FL GOP Congresswoman hangs up on Obama...TWICE!

What an interesting way to greet the incoming President.

Politico:

On Wednesday, the Republican congresswoman got a call from President-elect Barack Obama, didn't believe it was him, and hung up on him. Twice.

According to Ros-Lehtinen's flack Alex Cruz, the congresswoman received the call on her cell phone from a Chicago-based number and an aide informed her that Obama wanted to speak to her. When Obama introduced himself, Ros-Lehtinen cut him off and said, "I'm sorry but I think this is a joke from one of the South Florida radio stations known for these pranks." Then she hung up.

What's worse: Getting pranked (ala Sarah Palin) or hanging up on the soon-to-be most powerful man in the world?

It was apparently just a harmless joke by GOP Congresswoman Don Rickles.

Ileana,the insult-comic congresswoman?

LOL!

And just given her his phone number and let her call him back.

I think she just wanted a convenient excuse to hang up on her President.

I was about to say, how much you want to bet she's bragging about it to her friends while telling the press that it was an honest mistake.

She wasn't TOO bad for a wingnut.

...take it from me, a longtime SoFla resident.

Indeed she is an idiot.

P.S. the "average Joe" name sounds a lot like that "Joe the plumber" shit. Plz take my two cents worth as constructive criticism.

I can't really blame her, with the way things have been going -a la Palin.
Now, had it been her office number instead of her cell phone...

of Obama's ideal of new politics in Washington DC:

Obama makes a call, reaching out in a spirit of bi-partisan co-operation.

The Republican congresswoman responds with paranoid political ASS-COVERING... not wanting to made a FOOL by someone in her own constituency.

I think Obama, practicing his Change We Can Believe In, wins the day.

I honestly don't blame her after the whole Sarah Palin thing.

Right On!

is known to call a random person just to say "hi."

When the US president calls you, for the most part, you are in a context in which you know and expect his call for whatever business.

The fact that Sarah Palin is a fucking moron does not excuse this lady's rudeness...

..any intelligent person ought to be able to discern a prank call from one from a world leader.

The pranksters who apparently fooled Palin didn't mince words from the outset. She fell for it, hook line and sinker. What a maroon, lol

I'm sure the President-Elect laughed about it once things were cleared up.

she's been a guest on bill maher...

he'll have a good time with this little goof.

... I am sure Bill Maher will let her talk at will, just like he always does, that will show her!

Ros-Lehtinen or Matilin.

2 of the ugliest (not talking looks here, just character) skeezers in politics today.

Oh yeah, they're pretty gross in the looks department too.

That is so awesome that Florida would elect someone with Down's Syndrome.
This, along with the election of the sociopath Jeb Bush
and the Schizophrenic Katherine Harris
proves that Florida deserves an award for the work they do with the disabled.

Never mind. Don't answer.

why is the site missing the bottom nav?

I swear, Chris Lavoie and the rest of the Stephanie Miller show don't even have to TRY anymore... their show just writes itself!

country, last.

Just curious.

What would be the procedure to insure it's not a crank call?

I have a few ideas how I'd handle it but was wondering.

I hope she apologized to the new president. I don't like that woman's attitude just like I despise all GOP clowns.

This ditz is a big hero on the conservative blogs.

has sadly infected the victorious liberals. The title is misleading. After the Palin incident nobody can really blame her for playing it safe.

But she must apologize!!! How could she hang up on the President-elect????!!!

Grow up, people. Plenty of actual conservative bullshit to be outraged about.

I have to say your post hits basically every concern troll point:

1. Blame the messenger by making the asshole GOPer the victim

2. Make sure whatever shit the GOPer did, it must have been taken out of context. If it is not out of context, there must be plenty of reasons why the asswipe did the asswipe thing he or she did.

3. Of course there are plenty of GOP scandals, this particular one is not one deemed of attention.

One day, we will read how one of these ghouls is going to get caught eating babies on camera. And one of you poor saps is going to get the assignment of disseminating the memo, that says how there are plenty of other scandals, and that eating babies is not that big of a deal so us "liberals" should not waste our time dwelling on the fuckedupness of baby eating habits...

I read through the replies twice and found:

1. Posts mocking the woman
2. Posts that appreciated the dilemma she faced.
3. A post that actually said she wasn't so bad for a GOPer

But look as hard as I could i just couldn't find any outrage except on one post, the one I'm commenting on. As to the "But she must apologize", all I read was a hope that she'd apologize for the hangups. That would of course be the well mannered and appropriate thing for anyone to do. Apparently you have a problem with good manners. Sounds like you're the one with the issues here.

Deal with it.

part of this whole story is that he actually called her and THEN CALLED HER BACK.

that she would not suspect he would call one of the 435....[jeeze is he going to call them all?] is GREAT!

is a grinning rubber-stamp a-hole. She should dry up and blow away.

Republicans have no sense of reality!

So, whenever she gets information that doesn't jibe with her preconceived concept of reality, she disbelieves it?

What an I saying? She's GOP! OF COURSE she does.

Good grief she is ugly.

She did not run for office to make your dick feel good. I'd say you are the ugly, on the face of it.

Be honest, we've all determined for whatever the reason that certain people aren't attractive to us. Having said that I think it's funny that she hung up on Obama...I'm sure he laughed too.

Naturally I have emotional responses to physical beauty, and I value it highly, actually. I can't help that. But I don't amuse myself by publicly jeering at the less-aesthetically endowed.
The woman is working with what she has. I give her credit for that. Jeering at the less-endowed is a time-honored past time, but it's past time we grew out of the need to score social points by being mean.

Give ya a bazillion dollars if you find a current member of Congress who isn't as ugly as the north end of a southbound mule. Especially in the GOP.

I once received a call from then DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe and thought it too was a joke someone was playing on me. It was only until he cited something specific which I sent him via email that I knew it was truly him.

Mary MacElveen!

He'd have been easy to vet. He taught Constitutional Law. As a Congresswoman, she ought to know something about the Constitution, especially if she herself is a lawyer.

Simply apologize, say that radio stations are known for prank calls and ask who wrote the casebook he used or whether he thinks that Article IV applies to the Internet or some other question that a comedian or DJ would flub. Even "What is the significance of Carbolic Smoke Ball given the current problems with health care?" or a reference to Rosie the Cow or the kid with Hairy Hands or... He'd laugh.

She might have to cut his explanation short, but that is less rude than hanging up on him. And starting a conversation with laughter is usually welcome.

i dont think he met with dems at all during his 8 years...dont blame her for having old thinking

Somewhere in the world, Darwin is rolling in his grave.

With all of the stories regarding pranks lately I really can't blame Ros-Lehtinen. However, its one thing to assume that a caller is someone else when they really are not. Its entirely a different matter when you hang up on a caller that you know personally. That is Bush's problem. People more than likely hang up on him all of the time.

"How dare she.........How dare she!"

Does Amato give you this stuff?
You must be low man on da totem pole...

Watching this woman on Real Time several years ago.
Back when the GOP were all spewing boosh's talking points about wmd's and Iraq and fighting for freedom and blah, blah, blah.
She doesn't seem so mouthy now(last time I saw her on Real Time)
The stark differences are something to see. Night and Day.
Same person, 180 turn around. No more brow beating. No more talking over people. Not willing to STFU.
This doesn't surprise me.
You'd think that it would dawn on her after the election, that she might get the call from the Prez.
I can see why she would be leary of a prank.
She does have a staff doesn't she?
t

When Quincy Jones called Edward Van Halen to ask if he would be interested in playing on Michael Jackson's new album, Ed thought it was a joke, used profanity, and hung up. Quincy convinced him on the second call it was really him, and, of course, Edward ripped a killer solo on "Beat It." I can already picture the SNL skit...

I'm sure she felt very embarassed once she found the calls were legitimate. Fortunately, Obama didn't take her unfortunate responses personally, I'm sure he could relate to her mistake in some way.

If nothing else, his response to her is a good example of compassion and decency in leadership.

As for the comments here about her appearance---please spare us. That doesn't add anything valuable.

... if she could not verify that it was Obama, then she did the right thing. Obviously, she didn't want to become the next Sarah Palin phone prank victim. I have no idea what the procedure for verifying such a phone call is, but obviously, there's now a breakdown.

"Besides," she added, "I don't speak with darkies. I might get some on me."

LOL! Stupid god damned Republicans.

What a stupid bitch.

Her and those two other tools, the Diaz-Balart's, are the palest Cubans I've ever seen living in Florida.
