If I declare myself a corrupt bank or a disaster zone, which one gives me more in bail-out stimulus money?

I wouldn't mind a measly 3.7 billion bucks. Hell, I'd even settle for 3.6 billion!

turns to and depends upon TV.

I don't trust TV.

I do trust posters here.

Get a lesson, please.

It's a video blog. What did you expect? Home movies?

LOL

Thanks, I needed that.

From Time's 25 Best Blogs 2009:

When professional musician John Amato launched the Crooks and Liars political blog in September 2004, it featured something that was quite novel in those ancient pre-YouTube days: video clips. Today, Crooks and Liars is among the most widely read political blogs on the Web, and Amato — now known in blog circles as "the Vlogfather" — is recognized as a pioneer of video blogging. The video selections — snippets from government press briefings, Congressional hearings and TV talk shows — are the sort of clips that Jon Stewart uses for fodder, but this is a chance to see the video in its original unintentionally humorous context. Amato leans liberal, but his blog is an equal opportunity attack dog, taking a bite out of the crooks and liars on both sides of the aisle.

And if you don't like it: GO START YOUR OWN BLOG! You can do it for free through Google. Good luck attracting any readership. If you blog like you comment, stating nothing more than, "I'm against it," with no reasoning and no linking to hint at what you're reasoning is, your blog, like your comments here, won't be a good read.

Obama should make it an all or nothing proposal. They can turn it down and let the State voters decided next election.

A more than perfect solution . . . all or nothing at all. And definitely a thorough audit of where the money is being spent. Time for these hypocrits to be valued for exactly what they are . . . not for their poeple, but for their political advancement!

If there is another stimulus bill it would be nice if the mayors of the towns could vote on it rather than the representatives and senators. The mayors know what the fu*k is going on at home while the reps and the senators care mostly about the next election.

I have to say that I am proud of Crist for supporting the stimulus. Delay blistered him tonight for doing so. When someone as low as Delay blisters you, you must be doing something very correct.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

why Delay is on television and not in prison. :-)

and are following game theory to a t, based on 2 parties (Obama, GOP), with 2 possibilities (support, opposition), and 2 outcomes (success, fail) they have 4 possible approaches:

1. If the GOP supports Obama and he succeeds, the GOP fails.
2. If the GOP opposes Obama and he succeeds, the GOP fails.
3. If the GOP supports Obama and he fails, the GOP fails.
4. If the GOP opposes Obama and he fails, the GOP succeeds.

Given that republicans will always put their party's interest (and by extension their personal interests too) over county, it looks as if they have figured out that opposing Obama violently and hoping he fails is simply the only scenario where they can win.

So I am not surprise that's precisely what they’re doing. I do hope Obama is aware of this, and he is using the whole bipartisanship nonsense as it needs to be used: as a ruse to sucker these assholes into the corner where they can't do further damage to this country. Esp. during these critical times...

Bonkers's picture

They are still galaxy-devouring-sized assholes, but still, you lay it out in an interesting way.

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

Tyler Durden's picture

game theory assumes that people are galaxy-devouring-sized assholes. That is why it was developed by an insane galaxy-devouring-sized randian asshole :-)

that is why game theory can be used to map and predict the GOP's actions so well. I am surprised the Dems haven't latched on to that. It would give them an insight to predict exactly the course of action of the GOP (not that plenty of Dems aren't assholes themselves).

They all suck's picture

Do you bet the U.S. economy will be better on 12/31/09 than it is today?

Obama says, place that bet.

How many here would?

Bonkers's picture

That's a snarky way of putting it, don't you think? Should he, and by extension we, do nothing?

The economy might be fucked either way, but we, and especially he, can't just do nothing. I just don't understand what you are getting at. If you are accusing Obama of giving a sales pitch, well I dunno, welcome to...how things work?

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

They all suck's picture

you and I have heard, we must do something.

Something?

Sorry. I want a reasoned approach, not panic.

Bonkers's picture

What is in motion here seems like a reasoned, sober approach to a Gordian Knot. The last thing Obama seems capable of is panic. Look to the previous Administration who solution to everything was to lash out violently or stand around, mouth agape and sucking air; a very tidy demonstration of panic. But I digress.

Anyway, we could go round and round on this. It's simply your opinion vs. mine.

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

Jo's picture

And you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that. He, in no way is telling us to place a bet.

He has said we are in this for the long haul, it will take years, not months as you suggest to get us back on track.

They all suck's picture

He's thrashing around.

He's placing bets.

With your and my money.

Jo's picture

Read your history.

And it's not your or my money. It's everyone's money. We are all in this together.

They all suck's picture

Obama is thrashing around.

He doesn't know what he's doing, economically or militarily.

Bonkers's picture

Ok, then educate us. What would you do differently?

Or just point out specifically how Obama falls short on the three subjects you just pointed out.

And for fun, tell us who could possibly do a better job, at this time, than President Obama. I saw McCranky last night and I will tell you now that even if I liked the man, and I don't, I am very, very glad that the pale, infirm-looking old fella did not manage to wedge his way into the WH. Bullet dodged, I say.

The only MSM outlet doing critical reporting is a comedy show

Apologies to Rachael Maddow, although she is pretty funny too.

Beautifully and sadly put . . . .
Obama gives speech that will be remembered for some time and MSM is attempting to make Jindal news worthy! This truly sucks!

jurassicpork's picture

What kills me is people who hate brown-skinned people can still find it in their hearts to support people like Jindal because he momentarily mirrors their views. I'm not talking about the conservative pundits: They've been lambasting Jindal mercilessly over his response to Obama's speech last night. I mean the Freepers.

The Freepers are coming, the Freepers are coming!

Those would be same Freepers, of course, who think that another Civil War is imminent because of Obama's identification with Lincoln.

Tyler Durden's picture

race has been used traditionally in this country as a classic "divide and conquer" approach.

One day, poor white people in their trailer parks will realize that they have more in common with poor black people in the ghetto, or with poor mexican people in the barrio... than they have with the rich folk in the gated community. And well... there will be hell to pay, when people realize the obvious: there has always been class warfare going on.

Jo's picture

There are many decent people living in trailer parks. Do not practice the same class warfare you would decry.

I, myself live in a double wide. A beautiful park with huge pine trees, gardens, and many, many Democrats who supported Obama against McCain.

I don't live in a nice trailer park, by any stretch of the meaning, but I do live in one. Not only that, but this is a mostly Mexican and Mexican-American trailer park, that do not support the GOP.

... and his wife retired to a mobile home park. After her kids were done fixing it up (texturing the walls and ceiling, painting, redoing the bathroom, and adding new counters and appliances to the kitchen) it was nicer than I could have ever imagined. I mean, it's truly a great place. Maybe mobile home parks aren't quite the same thing as trailer parks, but I do know that when people hear the term they get the wrong idea; some sort of negative connotation of what they imagine both trailer and mobile home park life is like.

But of course, Tyler's assertion isn't all wrong. My dad is essentially not-rich. This place his was his last, big investment and not only that, but he never could have afforded a "regular" home. He does have more in common with the working poor than any Stimulus grubbin' banker fat-cat.

I also don't read anything truly disparaging in what he has said above, other than perhaps inadvertently implying that people in trailer parks are necessarily poor.

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

Truth_Critic's picture

that people who live in trailer parks are indecent? I think Tyler was simply differentiating between an assumed mindset in the various domiciles.

Study the symptoms not the virus...

Tyler Durden's picture

Please, care to point out where I claimed people living in trailer parks are "bad" or "less good?"

Most people living in a trailer park belong to low earning brackets. There is nothing morally bad about that.

Obviously the point I was trying to make flew over at supersonic speeds: Socio-economic lines are far more significant than racial distinctions. Even though our society tends to live in denial about that.

Bonkers's picture

That's what I got from what you said.

I'm just superstitious enough to hedge my bets.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

But I thought Tyler's point was that poor white people, seem to think they have alot more in common with the rich white leaders than reality dictates. Kind of like Dem supporters thinking they have alot in common with Pelosi and Reid, or other Dems, because they belong to the same party.

Oops. Sorry Tyler, didn't see your reply.

Once again, I am reminded why I love Jon Stewart.

evi1joe's picture

I'm always surprised that the only place on television I'm seeing politicians thoughtfully (and hilariously!) exposed is on The Daily Show. Every newsperson should have pointed out that Jindal is accepting 99+ percent of the stimulus and that any supposed ideological stand is all talk, talk, talk.

I like the all or nothing idea, but it punishes the poor over the rich zealots. I think Jindal just wants the unemployed to emmigrate so that he can say he improved his economy when he tries to run in 2012. He sure looked like a pencil-necked, animatronic castrato version of Mr. Rogers telling GOP talking-points to a room of 1st graders.
