Barack Obama was all over the airwaves last night, between his half hour infomercial, midnight rally in Florida with Bill Clinton, and great appearance on The Daily Show, his third to date. (You can see the first here, and the second here.) No topic was off limits, as the Senator spoke about socialism, the Sean Hannity fans who probably wouldn't want to have a beer with him, and the so-called "Bradley effect."

"I think that there's a certain segment of hardcore Sean Hannity fans that probably wouldn't want to go have a beer with me. But I think for the average voter, they're saying to themselves, 'What's all this stuff about? I'm trying to think about hanging onto my house.'"

"I said today that I think they found proof that when I was in kindergarten I shared my toys with some friends, and that's clearly a sign of subversive activity. But the socialism thing doesn't fly too well."

but I would have bought the AbMaster from Mr Obama last night. If nothing else, I want to experience a president that does nothing but strike fear into the hearts of Americans. But I know he'll do more than that.

This is hilarious and indicative of how totally "desperate" McCain is at this point to fill seats at his abysmal rallies. Of the 6,000 people there, he had to bus in 4,000 school kids in Ohio. I "kid" you not! Pretty Pathetic since the innocent kids didn't have a choice about the "McCain field trip"....hahahaha!

Also of Note: Joe, the Non-Plumber Plumber, also stood up McCain so it's now Joe, "The AWOL" Plumber. Evidently, this really threw McDepends for a loop.

I am also sure that his publicist has warned him about being seen to much with a LOSER like McDepends.

After Barack Obama is elected, suddenly it will become a lot harder to find things about the government that are easy to ridicule.

On the other hand, it still leaves Hannity, Limbo, Billo, etc.

Good times...

Government includes our spineless Kongre$$$$. There will be a LOT to work with, even with better election results than the current edition.

What would we do without Jon and Colbert !
BO seems to be made for a cool leader we need to keep our boat afloat - his sense of humor is dry, which is a relief from 'betcha'jinks. I wonder how can he still smile with this unbelievable strain of campaign - not only mental, but purely physical. I just hope after Nov 5 (the fireworks will be going offf..)he WILL get good REST from all of this stuff, and catch up on SLEEP. Before all hits the fan at once.

We'll have to do OUR PART pushing the pols/Kongre$$$ to work with Obama. Just SOME of OUR TAX $$$$ at work:

A Question for A.I.G.: Where Did the Cash Go?

By MARY WILLIAMS WALSH
Published: October 29, 2008
The American International Group is rapidly running through $123 billion in emergency lending provided by the Federal Reserve, raising questions about how a company claiming to be solvent in September could have developed such a big hole by October. Some analysts say at least part of the shortfall must have been there all along, hidden by irregular accounting.

Cuomo Asks for Pay Data From Banks

By BEN WHITE and JONATHAN D. GLATER
Published: October 29, 2008

Wall Street is coming under mounting political pressure to cut bonuses for top executives, traders and bankers in what was already expected to be a down year for pay.
................
The letter follows one sent earlier this week to the same banks by Henry A. Waxman, the California Democrat who is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, urging them not to use any government money for bonuses or other payments and asking for data on pay going back to 2006.

.......................
Lloyd C. Blankfein, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs, received bonus and stock awards worth about $68.5 million last year, while Goldman’s co-presidents got just slightly less.
................
“Taxpayers are, in many ways, now like shareholders of your company,” Mr. Cuomo wrote, “and your firm has a responsibility to them.”

In his letter, Mr. Cuomo asked specifically for a description of bonus pools for this year, a description of how money in those pools would be allocated, an explanation of how that allocation might have changed since each company received money under the federal Troubled Asset Relief Program and a description of bonuses paid to executives earning more than $250,000 in 2006 and 2007.

Mr. Cuomo’s letter was sent to Bank of America, Bank of New York Mellon, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, State Street and Wells Fargo, all of which received capital injections from the government as part of a wide-reaching program to stabilize the financial system.

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

Its Me's picture

He dismissed The Bradley Effect in the polls but, of course, we won't know until Nov. 4th if that phenomenon suddenly disappeared from this contest.

However, there was plenty of evidence of it throughout the nomination process in the first half of this very year. Starting from the earliest days of the nomination process and continuing for the next several months (From Feb. to June), national polls regularly showed Obama with a 6-14 point lead over Hillary Clinton (although Clinton regularly outperformed Obama vs McCain).

A few examples:

http://www.pollingreport.com/wh08dem.htm
Gallup Poll daily tracking. Three-day rolling average. N=approx. 1,200 Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters nationwide. MoE ± 3

Pew Research Center for the People & the Press survey conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International. May 21-25, 2008. N=618 registered voters nationwide who are Democrats or lean Democratic. MoE ± 4.5. April 2008 survey conducted by Abt SRBI.

And yet, Obama never saw, at best, as much as a 0.5% lead over Clinton in actual votes even if you add to his vote total the imaginary/estimated votes from caucus states that were never cast by anyone.

And, at worst, Obama got almost 290,000 fewer actual votes from actual people who got off their butts to go vote for Clinton instead of him:

Popular vote totals for Dem nomination RCP
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/...

No one ever wants to acknowledge this OBVIOUS example of Obama's poll numbers far outperforming his actual votes by as much as 13-14 points nearly every week and every month of the nomination process right to the bitter end, whether they want to call it The Bradley Effect or not.

UncleDave's picture

that is assuming the polls are correct.I have little faith in polls, ever since I was subjected to a telephone poll years ago.The questions were crafted to elicit a predictable responce or the questions left me little room to answer as to my real views,or stand on specific issues.

ysbaddaden's picture

I was being contacted by polls back in 1988. One question was if I was a republican or a Democrat, and I answered a Cynic.

One asked me if the election was held tomorrow would you vote for boosh or Dukakis, I answered Pee-Wee Herman.

Another asked me if I was a liberal or a conservative, I answered a conservative; I believe in the Divine Right of Kings.

First time I ever heard a pollster laugh.

Absolutely true. There have been several photos scattered about the web, taken from behind the GOP candidates. Most times McLame and Palincomparison are speaking to only several hundred people.

If you subtract out friend and relatives, you probably couldn't get a good card game going at a McLame event.

Its not that you are willing to share your toys that makes you a socialist, it's that you want to FORCE everybody else to share their toys, under threat of fines and imrisonment. Last i checked, that was Fascism, but as long as its Fascism 'for the good of the children', it will be accepted by the masses.. And mandatory charity is no charity at all. Sadly, I will not be voting for either socialist.
