Actor Mark Ruffalo Put On Terror Watch List For Anti-Fracking Activism
This is an utter disgrace and Gov. Ed Rendell needs to fix this now:
Actor Mark Ruffalo has been placed on a terror advisory list by U.S. officials after organizing screenings for a new documentary about natural gas drilling.
The "Zodiac" actor arranged showings for "GasLand" earlier this year and voiced his concerns about the practice in relation to the national water supplies.
But his efforts to raise awareness and demand a stop to natural gas drilling reportedly attracted the attention of officials from Pennsylvania's Office of Homeland Security - and he recently discovered it had landed him on a terror alert watchlist.
But Ruffalo is taking it all in his stride and has laughed off the idea he could be a threat to security.
He tells GQ magazine, "(It's) pretty f**kin' funny."

Abuse of the terror watch list should be a serious crime. Its not only a fascist violation of civil rights, its bad for security since it makes mock of real efforts to stop terrorism.
We hear so much that those who trade freedom for safety deserve neither. So it goes with a fascist mentality. What is considered a necessary precaution one day becomes the means to silence anybody the next. We don’t even notice as the slippery slope beneath our feet erodes away.
Each simple step, like taking off your shoes at an airport, precedes the next. It’s easy to march forward with each step, like putting “questionable” people on a list. It’s difficult to pull back. Next step, a million people a day are being patted down (read – assaulted) in the name of safety (but really as a means of selling x-ray equipment as an alternative).
Only an inconvenience? You bet it’s an inconvenience, but only for those who don’t profit (both financially and otherwise) from the fascist rules. What’s next “show me your papers”? Too late. Been there, doing that.
I wouldn’t say people waking up from a 70 year sleep wouldn’t recognize this America they wake up to. They would recognize it easily. The things they would see were all over the papers back then. Only it wasn’t in America.

It's really about the almighty dollar, isn't it? Ruffalo says at the beginning of this clip that some of his neighbors are leasing their land, and that he "can't blame them," but the reasons why he can't blame them are left unsaid. How many people know that the unemployment rate has been significantly higher in rural areas since 2001? How many conservatives understand that most country folk have been struggling just to keep food on their tables since Bush usurped the presidency in 2001?!?
I hope Ruffalo and his fellow activists are successful in their efforts to prevent further damage to our nation's water sources. Furthermore, I hope that each and every one of us considers how much damage is done by our relentless addiction to petroleum products. We have the technology right now to start drastically reducing our dependence on oil, and yet we sit around with our thumbs up our butts, or vent our anger in random comments virtually no one reads. What's it going to take for enough of us to get mad enough to effect change?!?
I am there already. And, I can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

Well, thanks to the skepticism of John Cole at Balloon Juice when he posted this same SF Gate article today, one of his readers revealed the source of this. And it wasn't Obama, as readers here, like Ixnay, suggested or U.S. officials, as the SF Gate piece claimed. It was a private contractor working for the State of Pennsylvania.
Funny thing, though. Ruffalo wasn't mentioned in the original article. The one which which
mentioned watching anti-fracking screening. Maybe he added himself to the list after Rendell fixed it. Pretty f**king funny, eh?
