Call The Waaahhmbulance! Wingnuts Are Upset That Obama Met With Keith And Rachel.
The wingnuts do get themselves all worked up, don't they?
The fringey-right are upset at the news that Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow attended an off-the-record briefing at the White House:
A day after key White House officials declared the Fox News Channel wasn't a news organization, President Obama met with MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Talk about your delicious hypocrisy.
Fittingly, the news was broken by FNC's Bret Baier during Tuesday's "Special Report" (video embedded below the fold with transcript, relevant section at 1:45, h/t Hot Air via NBer Thomas Stewart):
BRET BAIER, HOST: And finally, during this morning's off-camera White House briefing with reporters, ABC's Jake Tapper asked Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about the ongoing White House attacks on FOX News Channel.
After being asked about the charge that FOX isn't a real news organization, Gibbs answered, quote "We render opinion based on some of their coverage and the fairness of that coverage."
Tapper: "That's a sweeping declaration that they're not a news organization. How are they different from say, ABC, MSNBC, Univision?"
Gibbs: "You and I should watch around 9:00 tonight or 5:00 this afternoon."
Tapper: "I'm not talking about the opinion programs or issues you have with certain reports. I'm talking about saying that thousands of individuals who work for a media organization do not work for a news organization. Why is that appropriate for the White House to say?"
Gibbs: "That is our opinion."
Well, the White House's strong opinions about our opinion shows - - Glenn Beck runs at 5:00 p.m. and Sean Hannity at 9:00 p.m. -- apparently do not extend to similar shows on other networks.
A White House official confirms to us that the audience for Monday's off the record briefing with President Obama included MSNBC personalities Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
Hmmm. So the White House thinks Fox isn't a news organization because it has a perspective, and specifically points fingers at Beck and Hannity.
What does the Adminstration think Olbermann and Maddow have?
I guess it's not a problem for a new organization and its members to have a perspective so long as it's one the White House shares.
They seem to miss the big difference between people like Olbermann and Maddow: They attempt to gather and present facts on their shows. Sometimes they slip up, but it's not usually intentional. Get it?
And they're suffering from memory loss again:
The guest list included Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, and Mike Gallagher. (Rush Limbaugh was unable to attend.) Friday’s off-the-record talk, set for 30 minutes, ended up lasting 90 minutes, where Bush told his guests that the war on terror has to be about right versus wrong, “because if it’s about Christianity versus Islam, we’ll lose.” He also showed them the pistol Saddam Hussein had when he was captured.

It has been so long since I have watched that channel that sometimes I forget about them. I guess some people watch it... right? From the clips I see posted here and at HP I am really astonished that any company worth it's weight in their product would be so bold as to place their trust in this loser organization.
A few years ago I caught the tail end, the letters segment, of O'Really's show. When one viewer complained about his slanted coverage of the news, Bill's way out was to declare (paraphrased): "Fox doesn't cover the news, we analyze the news."
Therefore the viewer was to blame for making a false assumption, not himself or Fox for miseading the viewers into just that conclusion.
They've intentionally mislead the public for years into believing their jack-ass reality shows were 'news', by giving them hits to the crotches of innocents for profit. And that makes their viewers and sponsors who support them the real losers.
The FNC motto is: "We present; you decide." But often WHAT they present is not factual (i.e., editing Biden's remarks to make it seem as if he agreed with McCain, when he had the exact opposite view), or they don't present material from the side they disagree with (i.e., not airing two different Obama speeches) because they fear the "other side" might actually appeal to their viewers.
So glad to see Fixed Noise heads exploding over this. The panic is palpable over the administation's calling out this non-independent and therefore unAmerican propaganda machine masquerading as real news.
Actually, their motto is: "We REPORT; you decide"...and then there's that "fair and balanced" nonsense. But I agree with your sentiments exactly. This is a beautiful thing.
"We opinionate, you regurgitate."

But I believe this has bearing on this thread.
See THIS fox news?
Y'all seeing this Murdoch? Ailes?

But did the President invite Rachel to play basketball with him and his buds? That seemed to be the big concern on msnbc this morning, why doesn't the President invite women to play basketball with him. Is this question going to make anyone lose any sleep? Doubt it.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
There is a massive difference between what Maddow and Olbermann do, versus what Hannity and Beck do.
Maddow and Olbermann talk about the facts, and in fact, are mostly commenting and clarifying what these other idiots are doing.
Beck and Hannity do straight opinion. Their story line almost never revolves around the facts. It usually revolves around what they have made up.
Sure Maddow and Olbermann defend a certain more "progressive" point of view, but that does not say they are opinion shows in anything close to the same way that Beck and Hannity are. In fact, Olbermann goes out of his way to tell his audience when he is really doing opinion; ie. his special comment. Maddow and Olbermann are much much closer to being actual news shows versus Hannity and Beck, which are pure ideological opinion shows. There is a huge difference.
It is a Republican/conservative strategy to blur that difference and to say that FOX is the same as MSNBC, which it is not, not even close.
Even if you accept that Maddow and Olbermann are opinion shows, it makes perfect sense that President Obama would meet with liberal propagandists and not with conservative propagandists. The only question is whether Fox News Channel as a whole has become an outlet of progaganda or just the opinion shows. I haven't watched cable news since 2003 so I'm not in a position to judge.
.
that KO and Maddow will correct the record when it is pointed out to them. When was the last time (or even the only time) that Hannity or Beck corrected themselves?
Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught
will we realize we cannot eat money.
Maddow and Olbermann do not always agree with Obama. They've called him out a few times. I've never heard Fixed do the same with W, except possibly Shep.
I was going to post a story about the name of this day ending in a "Y" or about water being wet, but this is far more shocking!
Seriously, I hope at least one of them reminded the president who put him in office in the first place, and it sure as hell wasn't some Tea-per Tantrum attendee or Olympia Snowe.
They get pay huges of amounts of money to misinform, to miscontrue, to gossip, to lie, to change facts, to give lopsided opinions. For that kind of money, I would also be defending that trashy news outlet. They don't get it. FOXNEWS is for the totally ignorant who a big fat bank account.
My father's name was Lindsay.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
did Can O Whoopass know him?
Apparently not.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
cause Beck and Hannity do that as well, and hide behind "Freedom of Speech" bullshyt.
If anything happens to Obama and the wingnuts involved cry out in defense that they heard Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck agitating on television, their asses need to go to jail right along with the wingnuts harming the POTUS.

If 33% of the VIEWERS (questionable) are Democrats then the CONTENT is balanced!
Hell, NO! I watch it some times, exactly because is so ridiculously skewed to the right! To hear the new propaganda points!
On Countdown last night, KO reported that those were 2008 numbers. For 2009, it's now 10% Dems.
And no whining.
Bush didn't have that meeting at the same time he was going all-in trying to "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy, like Obama and his advisors are doing with Fox News.
Huge difference.
Gibbs' weak retorts of telling Tapper to tune in at 5:00 and 9:00, implying Beck and Hannity, and "That's our opinion" as justification for a strategy now several liberal journos have said is a stupid mistake, while at the same time having the philosophical equivalents at MSNBC are over having coffee and tea with Obama is not only the height of hypocrisy, but also in direct contradiction to how Obama was going to unite and reach across the aisle. This just makes him look small and thin-skinned.

supplied Fox with daily talking points. Now without their daily memo's, they resort to lies since they don't have an honest journalist amongst them. Tough luck Fox, you reap what you sow.
Oh dennis how quicklly you forget or how fast you are willing to twist the facts.
Obama (the administration) has tried to work with Fox. They understand that Fox is what it is but Fox has gone way overboard. When Beck and Hannity and O'Reilly and Cavuto and the fake news people continue to bullshit their viewers and when they call Obama a racist and when they sponsor their tea bagger parties and the 9-12 bullcrap it is understandable that the administration would say, "enough of this."
Remember when Bush said he as a "Uniter not a divider"? Then he went on to divide this country more than any other president in history.
I don't even recall Bush even mentioning Keith Olbermann's name, much less going full frontal assault on him and MSNBC, all at the same time, like Obama is with Chairman Dunn, Axelrod, Emmanuel and Scottie Gibbs.
There is absolutely no comparison to anything Bush did with the media to this, and Olby was screaming every night at Bush calling him every name in the book; liar, crook, war mongerer, Nazi jackboot.
If I'm wrong, I'd be happy to acknowledge it, but I don't recall Bush attacking Olbermann for the lunatic many of you guys are not just starting to realize. In those days, he was your hero; the only guy who would stand up for you, the only guy speaking truth to power.
The problem dennis is that the Fox jokers do not speak truth to power. They lie constantly. Olbermann never did anything remotely like what Beck and Hannity do almost every day.
Bush didn't have to mention any names.
..Rachel and KO, "..sick puppies.." the other night. WHY?
Ok, sins of the father and all of that but it was pappy bush who brought roger ailes along into the White House to smear opponets of his administration and sow the seeds of discontent long before there was a beck or hannity. AND, I'm sure no one hands KO or Rachel or anyone else on MSNBC (maybe mourning joe but I'm being unfairly critical of him) talking points the way w's toadies handed faux pshht from w and his crime family.
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"

They also forget BO went on the BO show while running for president, even though it was doubtful anyone watching would vote for him.
He's tried repeatedly to be non-partisan only to be snubbed, and faux rah-rahing the snubbers and the idiot fringe tea-baggers, and now they want him on their shows?
Diabolus est Deus Inversus
I would by linking the video of the interview and all the liberal bloggers and Dem pundits who said that O'Reilly's interview surprised them for its fairness and non-partisanship. I'd show you clips of O'Reilly for the rest of the campaign praising Obama for that interview and his declaration that Obama was a smart and tough politician.
Your nonsense is not worth countering, though. It never is.

And you'll also notice that I refered to Obama trying repeatedly to be non-partisan and being snubbed by faux and the teabaggers, which is obviously after he was elected president, and trying to enact his vision for America, and there's no denying that faux coverage has been hostile.
I wasn't reviewing the BO & BO interview itself, but if you need it all spelled out, I suggest you go back to Dick and Jane readers (chainey and Fonda?)

Olbermann, on the other hand, is a complete hack and no better than anyone he criticizes on the right. He and Shuster should go.
I take umbrage at the statement that he is a hack. KO's style is to take on all commers, often at their own level.

The question is, do the facts back him up or not -- and they usually do. The same can't be said of the rat wang spew-meisters.

it was a good idea for the WH "to take on" a "news" organization such as FOX. I disagree. The WH did not "take on" a news organization. It has simply chosen to limit its interaction with FOX news. I agree with the WH assessment that FOX news is opinion journalism and that that description is accurate and appropriate. FOX news broadcasts the opinion of its owner, Rupert Murdoch, a naturalized US citizen by way of Australia. Rupert Murdoch, for his own reasons, profit, opposition, ratings, has his own opinion, and many americans, myself included, think that his opinion and the one that is disseminated on his cable network, is toxic to america since it is highly inflammatory, incendiary, divisive and provocative in a way that is detrimental to the country. As far as I'm concerned, I think the WH did a very good thing in stating publicly how it views FOX cable news. The WH is free to have its own opinion of FOX news as FOX news is free to disseminate its opinion that it masquerades as "news". I'm fully supportive of a complete boycott of FOX news by the WH if that is what the WH wishes to do and for as long as the WH wishes to limit its involvement with said cable network. They have that freedom and I think it's wonderful.
Ah yes , listen to the friggin hypocrites cry ! They can dish it out but sure cannot take it when the tables are turned on can they ? Unlike Bush who locked out MSNBC and the New York times and everyone who didn't agree with him , Obama meets with both sides , when one has the truth and the facts on his side he doesn't have to hide from the opposition or fear them .
Insanity , it is what it is , there is no understanding it .
