Leader of Women's Group Murdered in Iraq

Iraqi police say attackers have decapitated the leader of the women's league of the Kurdish Communist Party.
A police officer says gunmen on Thursday stormed the Kirkuk home of Nahla Hussein al-Shaly and shot and beheaded her.
The city of Kirkuk lies 180 miles north of Baghdad. The officer who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Party spokesman Azad Gahareeb says the 37-year-old al-Shaly may have been targeted because she promoted women's rights. He says the married mother of two was alone in the house when she was attacked.

This is another in the long list of atrocities we've unleashed. If we had only let Iraq alone, so many things would have been better. Hopefully we can get out before doing much more damage.

I can't help feel anger, and despair. I was asked by a 13-year-old the other day who had been reading about the Holocaust why the Jews just didn't fight back. I didn't have a cogent answer that could have satified his question.

As far as these people are concerned - women are equal to garbage. It makes me ill. Despite the difference in the level of extremism in this comparison - I will note that the churches' attitude toward women is one of the primary reasons why we never gave the organized religions a shot at ANY of my kids.
My girls aren't ever going to regard themselves inferior to men in any way - and my son will never look at a woman believing she is not his equal.

My daughter, now 37, was brought up as a person first. No male dominated church in her life. She is unafraid and courageous and never thinks of herself as the weaker sex.
The men in her life are partners or they get the hell out of the way.

To the questioner about holocaust victims; imagine if you were surrounded by a very high (at that time) tech army, where every neighbor could report you and turn you in and where everything you had was stripped of you immediately. Imagine also that every move you make is monitored and violence is meeted out for even the most minor infractions (or none at all). Humans cannot tolerate complete and wholesale oppression and when their lives are in danger, will most often not resist, but obey in the hopes that their obedience will render them alive in the next hour or day.
The same goes for the slaves who were shipped to this country wholesale.
