Oo, Snap! Juan Cole Reminds Gingrich Just Who's Making Broad Generalizations
From Juan Cole, this little stroll down memory lane:
Republican poobah Newt Gingrich has lambasted Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor as a 'racist' because she implied that a Latina woman could empathize with certain situations as a judge better than a white male could, and so would come to sounder judgments.
Just so everyone remembers, this is Newt Gingrich's idea of the difference between the sexes:
'If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for 30 days because they get infections.... Males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes.'
I rest Judge Sotomayor's case.

Eighty-three of the 84 allegations were dropped.[25] Gingrich denied the charges over misuse of tax-exempt funds; however, he admitted to providing inaccurate statements during the probe over the college course and agreed to pay US$300,000 for the cost of the investigation.[26][27] The House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules.[28] The full committee panel did not reach a conclusion about whether Gingrich had violated federal tax law, instead they opted to leave it up to the IRS.[29] In 1999, the IRS cleared the organizations connected with the "Renewing American Civilization" courses under investigation for possible tax violations.[30]

Jesus, when my husband and I visited Busch Gardens last year, now I know why he bought the special tickets that allowed us to go out and hand feed the giraffes. It was his biological drive. I thought he did it because he knew how excited I would be to get to do it.

People like to pretend that Gingrich is actually very bright. Maybe that's true, but only as compared to other Republicans.
If that had been said by a Dem, that would have been a "macaca" moment, something so stupid that it would have ended their political career.
But with Gingrich, it's just more of the same. The problem, of course, is that Gingrich himself thinks he is intelligent. And now that he's a Catholic, he's also an expert on religious thought.
Dammit, it's true... I tried to fight it... for years I tried... but it just gets stronger, each and every day. How much longer can I deny my giraffe-hunting instincts...
